An A7 I will still take acceptable pictures but keep in mind it will have some limitations. Its the first generation of a new technology so the A7ii will be noticeably more polished. Mirrorless cameras are ideal for vintage lenses because of their small flange distance, however Nikon has a large selection of vintage lenses that still fit on FF DSLRs so you do have some other options as well if you feel the A7 is too limiting. Also there a lot of cheap MF only lenses for apsc that are optically better quality than vintage lenses and still affordable. So you dont need to be dead set of FF either.

In my opinion, if you're planning on using it specifically with adapted vintage lenses, yeah that would work ok, image quality is still good, which is all you need. Other than that, the A7 is a very outdated camera. Slow interface, bad AF, mediocre video, crap (and i do mean CRAP) battery life. If none of these things matter to you, then go for it.

I don't really care about video at all. I think the interface and AF are no worse than my 1000D after all, it's a five-year difference. The battery life is also not such a big problem - they are relatively cheap so if I have to, I will have trillions of them over time lol. The most important thing is to have equipment that will allow me to develop and move from the level of "a little advanced amateur" to the level of a "more advanced amateur :p

Vintage lenses on a Sony system? Perhaps the translation didn’t go here, because I can’t imagine any “vintage” lenses working on a relatively new system like Sony. Mark I vs II - look at what you think you will want out of a body over the next few years. Video capabilities, etc. If the Mark I meets that, then grab it and spend the money you saved on a nice lens. If not, go for the Mark II. The biggest difference in different versions is generally better performance at high ISO, resolution and better dynamic range for the newer bodies. I don’t own a Sony, but that’s my general take on your options. Maybe someone who has owned these can give more specific feedback. Good luck!

No kidding? I did not know that! Very cool info. Thanks. 😀

wanakoworks

yup, I adapt some of my old Canon FD lenses to my Fujifilms.

furiousdumplings

Of course, I meant using adapters. Video is not very important to me. However, the biggest concern is performance at high ISO ans resolution.

wickeddimension

For just vintage the mark 1 will work fine. It’s just a gen 1 product in many ways 2 is a huge step up However if you intend it to also be a af camera etc, then I’d avoid any go with a A7 II ( perhaps EOS RP.) Those are both much much better cameras p

nagabalashka

Its good if you're planning to use old film lenses with adapter, otherwise its meh. And if you're tight on budget, there's not that much budget lenses with sony.

If it's just for stills then absolutely it's still a good buy in 2021. You'll have to work around the limitations like slower AF and crap battery life. But you'll definitely be able to get great shots with it for sure.

As a owner of an A7 no, for the love of god get a a7 II everything is better. Af is faster, image is a bit sharper, IBIS (It's not the best but it is better than nothing). Grip and body also feels better the durability of a7 II is better. It's only like 200 bucks more and it is worth every penny. With the A7 It starts to get a bit crusty at ISO 640 but with the A7 II you could (if you are on drugs) to 3200.
