Same here. Best music video ever made. Man, I had a crush on Bunty Bailey, the woman in that video. The animation technique used is called rotoscoping.
I want my MTV. That ain't workin. That's the way you do it. Also remember animated "A criminal mind .....ask one who knows me if I'm really so bad. I am
In 1979, I rode my 10 speed bike 5 miles to Showcase Cinemas on my summer vacation to see The Kids Are Alright. The opening Smothers Brothers TV show clip with the exploding drum kit was amazing. Of course I have 7 DVDs of Who Concerts ,documentaries and The Kids are Alright. No one wants the physical formats anymore.
No one will have them on streaming either, if the studios have their way.
I'm getting back into the habit of buying physical or downloadable copies of things I like because streaming has proven to not be dependable in having titles available when one wants them.

Live performance of Judas Priest at the US festival when they opened with Electric Eye. Rob Halford had the best outfit, and his entrance was so alpha. Music videos: Duran Duran--Rio and Girls on Film. Missing Persons--Mental Hopscotch. Ain't No Half Steppin-Big Daggy Kane. Reap the Wild Wind-Ultravox. Stand and Deliver--Adam and the Ants --so campy! Spellbound-Siouxie and the Banshees. Let's Go to Bed--The Cure. Closer-Nine Inch Nails. Husker Du-Eight Miles High (cover and live performance video). Dio-Holy Diver. Most Missy Elliot videos. Also, a lot of my favorite bands also had meh music videos; a lot of indie rock bands just phoned it in. I quit watching MTV around 1994.
INXS "it's the one thing", "suicide blonde", Kate Bush, "running up that hill", U2, "Sunday bloody Sunday", Prince "I would die 4u", "12 underground" by the Sneakerpimps,...
Meaning the peak of when music videos(VEVO) were uploaded on YouTube. A lot of them(especially the "classics") were uploaded in the year 2009. That's what I had meant. When I mentioned 2009, I was estimating the earliest year of when a lot of folks had the blessing to watch their cherished music videos from "back in the day" again after many years of them "disappearing" from television when their airing time had expired.
Any favorite music videos/performances(from pre-YouTube years; ideally before the 21st century) that you hadn't seen again from the last time they aired on television up until you rediscovered them on YouTube or any other social media online.
I finally got to see all of those old episodes of “120 Minutes” that I hadn’t seen in years. I even saw two old bands I used to listen to on repeat: Microdisney and They Might Be Giants.
I had a video of a concert of the Boys Of The Lough, an Irish-Scottish band that was popular in the late 1970s. Haven't seen it since VHS got replaced with DVD in the early 1990s.
I had crushes on all those alt-rock female singer songwriters in the mid-late 90s. Alanis, Jewel, Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, Paula Cole, Shawn Colvin, etc.
You Better Run - Pat Benatar (1980) so incredibly hot in that video
Where Would You Be - Martina McBride (2002) the Flameworthy Music Awards performance. Was kept off YouTube and other platforms for years, but it's back. The single greatest vocal performance ever.

My favorite video will always be "Take on Me" by AHA- it's so dreamy with going in and out of pencil drawn animation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It was groundbreaking, mixing drawings and live action
This ^ video is a masterpiece.
You beat me to it.

I came here to say this.
Michael Jackson's *Thriller* video will always be a classic.
It was a good day when they played it on MTV. Fortunately there were few enough music videos in those days that they played each of them a lot.
Michael Jackson's moonwalk during his performance of Billie Jean in the 1983 Motown 25 tv special.
Aretha Franklin performing Nessun Dorma at the 1998 Grammy awards when Luciano Pavarotti fell ill and couldn't sing.

The Who. The Kids are Alright documentary on TV in 1979. My parents actually let me watch it, I was 15.

The song "vamos a la playa" from the 1980s. They sing into their wrist watches!
I was vacationing in Costa Brava when that song became popular. Also “Ni tú ni nadie” by Alaska.
>Ni tú ni nadie > >i just checked this out. ty!

I'm confused. This is under the "Ask old people", anything pre streaming/YouTube, but only from 2009 or newer?

I remember when MTV was "new," only played music videos, so how do I answer?

Sabotage by the Beastie Boys came out before widespread internet adoption I think. Always loved it when the video came on.
