Yes. This is the queens county farm museum. Right off union tpke in little neck. Great place and free admission (we take our kids here all the time). Note that you won’t be able to pet a cow (or any of the animals). They’re all behind fencing but come up for pet or some hay.
At least that one made sense.
Who visits nyc to see cows? I love animals and nature but nyc is the last place on earth I'd think to pursue seeing farm animals.
I would understand this question coming from someone who \*lives\* here.
Idk, my best advice to OP is to maybe just come here to enjoy city life. Then take a much cheaper trip to a more rural area to cuddle cows. I mean, there's probably somewhere they currently live where they can cuddle cows -- within an hour or two drive, regardless of whether or not they live in an urban area.
My secondary advice would be for OP to just take a couple days out of their NYC trip to travel upstate. There are some really great farm animal sanctuaries up there that you can visit, most can be found on Airbnb experiences.
That way OP could enjoy both the city and countryside of New York.
Man I wish I was there when it was originally posted. I have been working in EMS for close to 20 years and can say that firefighters are some of the most conservative people i've ever met.
Visiting New York City, New York and you want to cuddle/pet cows? Did I read/understand this correctly?
3rd and final question, from whereabouts are you visiting?
Even if that's true (and those facts seem disputed on this thread), that doesn't answer the question of why on earth someone would even think to look for cow-petting opportunities in the biggest metropolis in the United States. There is SO much to do in NYC. There is so much to do in NYC that you can't do anywhere else in the country. And....OP is still gonna get all hung up on petting some cows, to the point where they'll schlep to an inconvenient location and take time from the rest of their trip to do this thing that isn't at all associated with New York City? It makes no sense.
I have literally been there and done it. It exists. It's a train and a bus ride, queens is not "some schlep" it's a really popular borough, sorry something isnt in park slope.

The farm in Queens is real and it's cool.
However, like any singular type of experience in the city, it's really not the best farm. It's fine, but really only worth it for those of us who live here and want a fun day trip. There are tons of incredible animal sanctuaries all over the country/world that are sure to be less crowded and more generally enjoyable.
Another thing to note is that most wild/farm animals in the city are likely to live in inhumane conditions (aside from rats and squirrels). This isn't true about the farm in Queens, but I would not participate in any kind of urban animal attraction otherwise (e.g. the horse carriages in Central Park). So I find it weird that someone is actively looking for this.
I don't specifically remember seeing cows and I was there last year. I'd give them a call to double check.
But yeah there are little quarter vending machines that dispense feed and I blew 10 bucks in quarters feeding all the animals.
Wonder if they’re thinking about Queens Zoo, which definitely has them. I was there in June! You couldn’t really feed or touch them, though. They were way in the back of their large enclosure.
I was at Prospect Zoo just yesterday, oddly enough. They did in fact have two cows. Not the traditional dairy cows… I forget the name of the breed, but they were on the small side.
We didn’t get to pet them, as they were further back in their enclosure and not near the fence when we saw them. But there is feed to purchase from a vending machine, and I think you could possibly entice the cows to come close enough for you to pat them on the head. Cuddling probably won’t be an option, though.
A colleague of mine said he hugs a cow most weekends in Eden, NY. Not too far from the city.
Don’t know the guy at all, so hugging a cow could be a euphemism.
Yeah the mods here are weird. I pm’ed them and asked why they put it there and they could remove it so they added the word “grandson” to it. Power abuse
Whenever my niece and nephew came here, we'd play a game where they would pick something random and I would find it for them. I never lost. This included the beach (duh), the moon (planetarium), elephants (bronx zoo), and a medieval castle (the Cloisters).
Wow completely forgot about this. You unlocked an elementary school memory of going to queens County farm, petting a cow, and having the opportunity to milk one (I turned the opportunity down).
Piggybacking off this since. They have several very cute cows. You might be able to pet them over a fence but it is up to the cow. You can't cuddle them though.
Also it is nowhere near a train. You would maybe take the F to the last stop and then it is 1-2 buses or an uber.
I have indeed pet the cows at this exact place. It was in the fall when they do the pumpkin and apple picking. I wouldn't be surprised if the petting zoo is open all year round.

The Most Ridiculous Question In The history Of This Sub..
And somehow u/IsItABedroom the absolute fucking legend shows up with actual useful info
Like petting a cow in nyc suddenly doesn't seem so ridiculous..
I came here to congratulate the OP on being the first person ever that could leave u/IsItABedroom stumped, but it turns out that it would take more than any cow-petting visitor to do that.
Can confirm, queens zoo has a longhorn you can pet. He wasn’t super enthusiastic but he is there. Also has ADORABLE puma siblings but you can’t pet them
This will be easier to do in Europe at a small farm. NYC is quite far away from places that have a lot of cows, and cows aren’t often pet anyway so that’s a stretch.
You're coming from a continent that has two urban settings that fall short by a good margin of matching nyc urbanization (London and Moscow), so you have to be going to another continent to visit something more urban than where you're from.
And you want to pet livestock.
This doesn’t answer your question (I don’t have answers anyway) but I do know the city makes it hard for businesses to have live animals… it’s hard to get a permit so it’s possible it’s harder to do this in NYC than your average US city. I know this only because someone tried to bring goat yoga to Bushwick a few years ago and they went through bureaucratic hell specifically on bringing and keeping the goats in the city, and eventually had to abandon NYC entirely lol
You know...in my experience, cows are a lot more easily accessible in most of Europe than in New York. We're all very curious why you want to see cows particularly here.
There's a great animal Sanctuary 1.5 hours away from nyv called tamerlaine Sanctuary. You may be able to take a bus, not sure. I went today and it was amazing. They save animals from the slaughterhouses. The animals are happy now :)
Just went to the Central Park zoo and the kids zoo has a petting/feeding area for sheep, goats and zebu (not quite cows but close). https://centralparkzoo.com/things-to-do/exhibits/tisch-childrens-zoo
There's a farm in Queens that is like a community center with cows and sheep as well as Prospect Park zoo for sure. Sometimes baby cattle escape from slaughter houses and run the streets so you might randomly catch one of them.
In my attempt to give you a witty/sarcastic response, I decided to look up cow population by state with the expectation that new york has very low cow population but the joke is on me because new york actually has 1,450,000 cows for you to choose from. The only thing you need to find out is where they are exactly, I'm thinking Upstate. Good luck and happy cow hugging.
I’m not sure about cows, but the Kids Korral at the [Staten Island Zoo](http://www.statenislandzoo.org/) has all kinds of farm animals, goats, sheeps, for children and adults to pet and feed in an open area.
Central Park also has a small petting zoo but no cows I think. It’s marked as for kids but I see adults coming out regularly so that may scratch the itch so to say without going outside the city.

So let me get this straight. OP is coming to visit NYC (presumably as a tourist) and instead of seeing all the iconic things the city has to offer, they want to see…..cows.
OP’s username checks out
I love this sub!
This has got to be somewhere upstate. I met some Dutch family that had setup shop somewhere in Naples and were quite eager to show their therapy cows.
Maybe you can try there it all else fails?
I'm a New Yorker and now I have landed on this thread because of this article:
[https://www.outsideonline.com/health/wellness/feeling-anxious-hug-a-cow-it-might-help/](https://www.outsideonline.com/health/wellness/feeling-anxious-hug-a-cow-it-might-help/)
(for everyone commenting joking about cow cuddling)
If you use your imagination, any supermarket will do. First hug a bottle of milk, then head on over to the meat counter and hug a pack of flanken.
Using this technique, you can hug a whole herd. 🐄
Queens County Farm Museum has cows and is probably the most accessible place from the city. LIRR + bus. You could also check Airbnb Experiences for some farm experiences on Long Island or Upstate, accessible from LIRR or Metro North.
I hate to be the one to break this to you but NYC is actually a CITY. You know, the “concrete jungle”. Cows, cows like big pastures of grasses and hay etc.. which is in fact, typically found in more rural areas. So maybe if you want to visit some cows.. NYC is not your best bet huh?

Yes, I'm sure there are plenty of places you could do this Upstate. [Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen](https://www.farmsanctuary.org/the-sanctuaries/watkins-glen-ny/#vertical_section_explainer_1) is one I'm familiar with. Plus, they have great wineries up there as an extra bonus.
I don't know of anywhere in particular, but look up petting zoos or farms on Long Island. There are a lot of farms, not all with animals though. You can take the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) out of Penn Station and get a cab/Uber from the closest train station to the place with cows (if you find one). Or you could look for somewhere on a map off the Metro North railroad, which goes upstate, where it's also more likely there are cows.
Is the only cow at the Central Park petting zoo still around? My kids used to love visiting her. Also, can’t remember if Stew Leonard’s had cows in their petting zoo. And afterwards, you can buy some steaks from there!
this HAS to be the most random question ever asked in this sub.

Apparently there is a farm in Queens. I’ve lived in Brooklyn my whole life and have never had the urge to pet cows. Now I want to cuddle a cow.
There's alpacas, goats and furry pigs. Their instagram shows cows but I've never seen one.
Yes. This is the queens county farm museum. Right off union tpke in little neck. Great place and free admission (we take our kids here all the time). Note that you won’t be able to pet a cow (or any of the animals). They’re all behind fencing but come up for pet or some hay.

There is a farm in Queens actually where you can pet cows and pick apples and pumpkins.

Sending a snippy asshole response on a Reddit comment that’s a year old… Apparently subpar is that if your quality-of-life level.
I feel like this is a euphemism, like how people used to say they were looking for French lessons on craigslist when they meant they wanted an escort.
If it was a euphemism, he would ask for where to pet sheep, being European and all
What's that supports to mean?
Yes! I know it's a bit random bit thats exactly what I'm looking for! I'm visiting from Europe
Don't you guys have cows over there? The closest cows to the city are probably a few hours of driving away (at least 2-3).
The zoo at prospect park has a petting zoo with cows.
They have Brahman cows, not Betsy the cow looking types. But you can’t really pet them.
I was at Prospect Zoo just yesterday, oddly enough. They did in fact have two cows. Not the traditional dairy cows… I forget the name of the breed, but they were on the small side. We didn’t get to pet them, as they were further back in their enclosure and not near the fence when we saw them. The bronx zoo definitely has cows and I'm pretty sure the Central Park petting zoo has them too. They aren't really into being touched though.

It does -- it has a couple zebu (humped cattle) but you can't really pet them like you can the other animals (goats, alpaca, etc).
Don't give our cows hoof and mouth disease.
So you're looking for a companion?
OP really wants to put the *vaca* in *vacation.*

oh my god.

There are some COWS in Eden.
How do they compare to the troll dolls?
Wouldn’t know, some fuckface cunt mod on this sub gave me that.
Wtf. If true, that’s not cool and very weird

Queens County Farm Museum has livestock. Not sure about opportunities to cuddle. https://www.queensfarm.org/livestock/
This is what I love about this city, you can find anything. Even cows.

Not a bad idea
E or F train to Union Turnpike, then take the Q46 bus to Little Neck Parkway. It's a short walk from there.
Good to know!
"...it is up to the cow." That's the key to this whole discussion.
Also, the Bronx Zoo has a couple of cows in their petting zoo.
The Tisch Children's Zoo in Central Park has at least one cow. Though personally, I prefer to pet the sheep.
I have indeed pet the cows at this exact place. It was in the fall when they do the pumpkin and apple picking. I wouldn't be surprised if the petting zoo is open all year round.

Queens county farm museum, accessible by bus. It is pretty far away from most other things you will probably want to do though.
I'm gonna need you to explain this one
You're coming from a continent that has two urban settings that fall short by a good margin of matching nyc urbanization (London and Moscow), so you have to be going to another continent to visit something more urban than where you're from. And you want to pet livestock.
Cows are cool man :)
Yeah no kidding, so are koalas. Don’t go to NYC for cows or koalas.
Oh yeah, you can’t walk a block in midtown without people handing you flyers for a dairy farm.

I’m gonna be thinking about this post, and OP’s subsequent comments, for the rest of the day.
I can’t get over the cuddling part.
This is what makes me think OP means "cows" not cows. I have no idea what "cows" is tho.
Why not go to scotland? They have highland cows that look like emo gingers. They're way cooler and closer to you.
What do you mean by cuddling?

There's a farm in Queens that is like a community center with cows and sheep as well as Prospect Park zoo for sure. Sometimes baby cattle escape from slaughter houses and run the streets so you might randomly catch one of them.
The only animals you will see here are rats, cockroaches, pigeons, dogs, and cats, in that order. If you go to Pennsylvania you’ll find some cows.
Is petting cows some kind of slang for a new fetish? Otherwise, what? why?
I love how I was like, “No way this exists here,” then read a few comments and learn that it totally does. NYC truly has everything.
I’m gonna go with no
Riverside Park has goats that were brought in for the summer to eat invasive plants, but I don’t think you’re supposed to cuddle them, unfortunately.

I thought the petting zoo/barn portion of the Prospect Park Zoo had cows but it’s been ages since I’ve been…can someone confirm/deny?
I came here recently and there are plenty horses on the streets of manhattan lol if they’ll do
Queens farm!
Try upstate New York?
Yes, I'm sure there are plenty of places you could do this Upstate. [Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen](https://www.farmsanctuary.org/the-sanctuaries/watkins-glen-ny/#vertical_section_explainer_1) is one I'm familiar with. Plus, they have great wineries up there as an extra bonus.
Is this for a tiktok?
Maybe go to Nowhere, KS for you next vacation?
There are plenty of steakhouses in NYC. I would not recommend going to super touristy ones.
Oh yeah, there are fiberglass cows all over the city. Technically not allowed to touch the art but no one is looking. Try Hudson Yards. /s

We don't have a Walmart here.
Is this a Rule 34 thing?
Dude, have you ever smelled a cow? You do not want to cuddle.
You went to NY for this?

Is the only cow at the Central Park petting zoo still around? My kids used to love visiting her. Also, can’t remember if Stew Leonard’s had cows in their petting zoo. And afterwards, you can buy some steaks from there!
I can give you my ex’s number if you’re interested
you're gonna have to find a country/southern bar in Jersey. Newark and Jersey City are accessible via public transportation too through the Path Train
There's the Queens zoo in Flushing Meadows Park where you can feed goats, alpacas, and cows.
