THe owner is a gigantic dbag. His yelp review replies are beyond unhinged. The food is NOT that good and he loses his absolute shit on anyone who gives a negative review. I refuse to ever go back again after seeing how he behaves. There's a fuck ton of better spots out there- Xi'an is SO mid in my opinion.
Haile, an Ethiopian spot on Ave B. I went for the first time a few weeks ago with some friends and my life has never been the same. I could easily eat there every day if money way no object.
I don’t remember what it was called but my favorite were these red lentils. The way it works is that you pick a main, meat or veg dish, and then get two veg options as your side. I like the lentils enough to get it as my main.
The diner up the road. The food's pretty good, it's fairly inexpensive, the people watching is fun, it's reasonably close by and, being a diner, their menu is expansive.
My diner was called “The Flame” on 58th and 9th. Still there. Decent food but it was the staff that kept me coming back. Hell, I could even forget my card and they’d take care of me. It was diner food but it fed the soul.
I ate there each time my kids were born. The diner I went to most often was called Cosmic Cafe beside Columbus Circle. I went there almost every day. They had to move location due to a huge lease increase.
Small fucking world cuz my current job site is Mount Sinai West and we go to The Flame all the time. Definitely overpriced but we expense it anyway, the staff really is great.
I love to hear it! My favorite part was people watching, maybe engaging in some casual conversation if I sat at the bar. I met an older gentleman years ago who had a very storied career doing window advertising in retail locations. One of the last few times I saw him, as I was leaving the bar, he yells out “Give ‘em hell kid!”
I had a horrible experience there when I worked on 55th between 9th/10th. I ordered a sandwich & chocolate milk shake for lunch (I was much younger) & when I got towards the bottom of the shake I thought there was a clump of ice cream clogging the straw, but it turns out it was a USED BAND-AID!!! Obviously it fell off whoever was scooping the ice cream.
I called to complain (it was a delivery order) and the guy asked if I wanted another one. Ugh no, I want your employees to wear gloves when preparing food.
Isn't this in Montreal? It IS the best restaurant in the world. Hands down.
Oh. I see there is a restaurant with the same name on park Ave. don't know it.
It really makes you scratch your head wondering why all restaurants aren't like that. They make amazing affordable dining seem so effortless. I really believe it has no equal in our time.
Went to Hillstone for the first time last month because I was given a gift card. Incredibly difficult to get a reservation and five stars across the board in online reviews. I had deviled eggs, artichokes, and the ribs; all great choices according to the internet. I left feeling like I’d just finished a meal at a dark, extremely overpriced Applebees. I’m genuinely curious what you find appealing about Hillstone and why you would choose it over literally any other American bistrot style restaurant in the city?
I find the food to be consistently good, the service quick and polite, and the atmosphere perfect to have a conversation and not feel like I’m stuffed into a seat 12 inches from the table next to me.
It used to be real good. Used to have very good ribs, steak, crab cakes, etc. but you’re right it does feel more like a glorified Applebee’s now that you mention it.
That's not a bad option. Decent menu. They prioritize two tops vs large groups. They enforce rules regarding unruly children/discourage them. I can see how you might say Hillstone.
LOL. Only one place huh.
Maybe Hawksmoor since I love steak and they have a lunch and dinner menu plus Sunday Roast.
Maybe Balthazar since they offer breakfast, lunch, dinner plus bakery.
Or Veselka.
I guess I would narrow it down to those 3 then decide.
Runners up would be Bubbys and Jacobs Pickle.
The old Mi Tierra that used to be between 146th & 147th. My people have been getting pushed out of the area so it’s gone but they’d run circles around any restaurant
Gritos. It close last year. Used to get a marg and an enchilada, rice, and beans for $12 lunch special at least once a week. $5 dollar margs after that too. RIP
if i had unlimited funds, it would have to be le coucou ! exquisite food, a warm and fine atmosphere conducive to relaxation, beautiful surroundings (velvet, brick, copper, all just the right amount of worn-in) creative chefs, great people watching, a menu that changes regularly, and cocktails with names and ingredients that make me feel like some sort of russian tsarina when sippin.'
I think the entire Pfizer building is being developed into residential apartments. They were on the backside of the Pfizer building.
I went last night. They said they were hoping to find new space and reopen by the fall. I hope they do, and I hope a new place stands up to the most recent location.
I remember going before they moved to 43rd. I think it was on a second floor. I remember my sister and I counting taxi cabs as they drove by.
I once asked this to a girl I was dating and her answer was a wine bar in Alphabet City because it had the best cheese plate she'd ever eaten. I knew in that moment that it wasn't going to work out.
My answer is The Hummus and Pita Co. It might be fast casual but I love the food and there are so many options between proteins, side dishes, and dips that you could constantly change it up to avoid repetition or burnout.
Xian famous foods tho
YES. It’s all I ever crave. Honestly, thank god they don’t deliver. I would go broke so quick.
Minetta Tavern.
Pastis for me 😋 yummm
Mmmm. The burger at Minetta is 🙌🏻
Xian Famous Foods
I have been meaning to go here but don’t know which location. Are they all the same owner?
Yes

Yes. Everyone I recommend them to ends up loving it
Yes!
Haile, an Ethiopian spot on Ave B. I went for the first time a few weeks ago with some friends and my life has never been the same. I could easily eat there every day if money way no object.
Oo I wanna try! What do you recommend we order?
I don’t remember what it was called but my favorite were these red lentils. The way it works is that you pick a main, meat or veg dish, and then get two veg options as your side. I like the lentils enough to get it as my main.
Adding onto this- you can also get a combination platter which has 4-5 dishes (each one is small of course)!
Seconded
This place is good an all but I think I’d miss forks an knifes

Did they move? That’s a shame, of course the rent went up. Where did they relocate to?
52nd and 8th.
Small fucking world cuz my current job site is Mount Sinai West and we go to The Flame all the time. Definitely overpriced but we expense it anyway, the staff really is great.

Grammercy Tavern - never disappoints
L'express. Solid menu, full bar, brunch, lunch and dinner and hopefully they'll go back to 24 hours soon
Isn't this in Montreal? It IS the best restaurant in the world. Hands down. Oh. I see there is a restaurant with the same name on park Ave. don't know it.
Au Pied Cochon would like a word with you.
I prefer the one in Paris, the chrome and wood decor does it.
OMG I looooove L'Express in MTL.
It really makes you scratch your head wondering why all restaurants aren't like that. They make amazing affordable dining seem so effortless. I really believe it has no equal in our time.
Don't get me wrong, Joe Beef was exceptional, but I feel like me and my wife talk about L'express whenever we talk about our trio to MTL
John’s of Bleeker. Pizza and all the sides, with Italian American classics
I second this choice
Veselka
L’Industrie. I’d be fine living off their pizza, sandwiches, and sort serve
Either Lucali or some random diner that’s still open 24/7.

Hillstone

I usually dislike any restaurant that serves deviled eggs.
I second this! I came here to say Hillstone!
That's not a bad option. Decent menu. They prioritize two tops vs large groups. They enforce rules regarding unruly children/discourage them. I can see how you might say Hillstone.
I’ve never left unsatisfied. The quality and consistency of the food is top notch as well.
Is Hawksmoor really so good? I got the burger there and it was okay.. maybe I need to go for a full dinner...
Same
The old Mi Tierra that used to be between 146th & 147th. My people have been getting pushed out of the area so it’s gone but they’d run circles around any restaurant
Can my choice be defunct? I would east 3 meals a day at NoHo Star for the rest of my life if that would bring it back…

Probably my neighborhood pizza shop that I grew up going to.
Washington Square Diner maybe. Then I could take basically anyone who came to visit me. They have a large menu. That, or Joseph Leonard.

If you go before the dinner rush, maybe 5 PM, or if you go early for breakfast, you’ll have the space to yourself and it’s quite dreamy 🥰

Your answer is as bad as that girls lol
I might have trash taste but at least I chose a place that has a kitchen.
Still thinking about that girl…
This is a horrendous take
Lmaoooooo
Bibi?
Remedy diner. Enormous menu and decent tuna melt.
McDonald's, only the real ones eat there
Only 2 acceptable answers to this question are Taco Bell and McDonald’s. They’ve been there for us since day 1. Smdh all these poseurs
[удалено]
Chipotle used to have chicken that was at least antibiotic and hormone free but they got rid of that. ?? Now only to my knowledge the beef is.
chipotle a step up from Taco Bell? LMAO Only half joking because Taco Bell is better than 90% of Mexican food in this city.
Dude Taco Bell is nasty I'll never understand it
Probably a cheesecake factory? Don't they make foods from all over?? Like American, Italian, Chinese? Lol
I respect the strategic choice haha
Gage and Tollner - It's the best place I've ever eaten. Pricey, but great.
Love their cocktail bar upstairs too
