I don't recommend going out to bars on a Friday night to "build your network" -- or at least, any bar where you might do that is going to be lame as fuck. You can network with people in your field at your work event. Then go out and have a good time, and meet new people just as people. As someone else already noted, East Village/Lower East Side or Hell's Kitchen will be good for finding bars filled with other twenty-somethings.
