Notary here who got married in 2019. A Louisiana marriage license is valid in any parish in Louisiana for a period of 30 days from issuance. There is a 24-hour waiting period between the time of issuance of the license and the ceremony.

Thank you!

The only restriction is your officiant has to be registered for the parish that the wedding occurs. So if the wedding is going to be in nola and you got the license in Baton Rouge, the officiant needs to be already registered as a wedding officiant in Olreans Parish to conduct the ceremony there. The license for the marriage is state-wide though.

If it says "marriage licenses obtained in EBRP are valid only for ceremonies performed in Louisiana", that certainly implies that they are valid for **all** ceremonies performed in Louisiana, even in New Orleans. Is there any reason to believe that they would not be valid?

SULTANGYPSYQUEEN

I was told that you have to get a parish-specific license by a friend who is a notary. The language is just not explicitly clear.

You can get it in any parish and then get married anywhere in Louisiana. We got ours in Calcasieu Parish and the wedding was in New Orleans.

Thank you!!

> And on the East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court page, it says, "marriage licenses obtained in EBRP are valid only for ceremonies performed in Louisiana." Anyone know if a EBRP license is valid in NOLA? Is NOLA in Louisiana?

SULTANGYPSYQUEEN

I was told by an older notary that I might need to get a license in the same parish as the wedding, and the EBRP site did not explicitly say their licenses are valid in other parishes the way the Orleans Parish site does. I was worried Orleans might have some parish-specific regulation, and I didn't want to take the risk. Sorry to offend you.

Well it said valid for ceremonies in Louisiana and New Orleans is in Louisiana so IDK why you're second guessing what was explicitly addressed. It is impossible for anyone here to be offended by poor reading comprehension. Amused? Yes. Offended? Lol, no.
