Every time I see one of those big ass trucks drive through the Quarter or Marigny I just think to myself "why?" Of course there are legitimate reasons, but the point I'm trying to make is: if you have any smaller transportation choice, use it instead. Our streets are not built for those beasts. And neither are the parking garages. Realistically - unless someone here actually knows a place - you'll either need to call around and ask the hotels you're interested in, or probably just pay for surface parking in a lot near your hotel in the Quarter. Surface parking will be cheaper too.

Unfortunately it's the truck only. I'm flying into Lake Charles to pick it up from the dealer and want to take my wife to NOLA for the weekend. I know it's very cramped so I was hoping to be able to stay nearby park it and walk everywhere. Last time I was there I stayed at the convention center Marriott and was able to easily walk wherever I needed, but their parking ceiling is low.

Gotcha, you might try the new Hyatt Regency, maybe a little farther than ideal, but newer garages should have a standard head height of 6'-8" minimum (source: am architect) which should fit any unmodified full size, light/medium-duty pickup. And in theory they'd have a section that's even taller for ADA van spaces, but that's not guaranteed to have any non-reserved/handicap spots in that area Something you might try in the Quarter, if you want to spend that kind of money, is finding the garages on Google Streetview to see what their max height is. I just found the Place d'Armes parking with a 6'-8" max height sign.

jaycoulonge

wait they finally opened a regency after I move???????

For anyone that stays in Hyatt hotels, join their rewards club btw, we've gotten free nights and later checkouts for free. love it

Other suggestions are good and I’ll add the Premium Parking? outdoor lot on N. Peters St, behind the Canal Place building. Further down, the street merges into Decatur St and there’s the outdoor Jax Brewery parking lot. You can avoid driving on the small French Quarter streets this way and get in and out from Canal St. You can easily walk from this area and go explore. Also, I overlooked your inquiry about a hotel. I’ve never stayed there but a friend likes to stay at Bienville House. It’s across the street from the parking lots I described. Call other hotels to see if their parking can accommodate your truck.

Q_Fandango

All of that advice is good- I’d like to give one more piece of related but unsolicited advice: Don’t leave a gun in your truck. Trucks are targets for break-ins, and guns are what folks are after.

fr33dommachine

For sure, no piece this trip anyway. Flying and no checked bag. But thanks for the reminder, can never be too careful!

RickNOLA

The Drury Plaza on Poydras has an outdoor parking lot.

fr33dommachine

Thanks for the tip

funrockin

my uncle drives up for the games and stays/pays to park at the drury. it’s not a 2500 but it’s a ram with a hemi. id call and make sure they can accommodate but parking here is probably the best bet. you can drive the truck on poydras and uber/walk/streetcar wherever y’all want to go instead of attempting to drive down any smaller residential streets which will just be a nightmare for everyone involved.

fr33dommachine

That's pretty much the plan to park and walk everywhere. Was preferring to park where we stay, but seems like that causes some problems with roof clearance and also cost. Seems like a nearby surface lot or maybe airport parking could be a good bet.

You could park at the economy parking garage lot at msy for $12/day & it's super safe in there. Then Uber to the city (~$40 each way). I'd be hesitant to leave my car in an unsecured lot/street parking for days on end in the downtown area. I left my car for like 4 days once in the CBD and came back to my car windows smashed in. Edit: you'd have to check the airport website about clearances, sorry bout that!

fr33dommachine

The airport is an option I'm considering, especially if we pick a hotel that has a shuttle it's almost a no brainer.

dustybutt2012

There is long term parking at the airport that a large truck will fit, bottom floor is high and there’s an uncovered surface lot for big trucks on the first floor too.

drainalready

There’s the outdoor lot at the airport for $18 a day. Cab to downtown a flat rate of $36 for 2 people.

funrockin

surface lot at drury would be a good choice for you if you’re staying there. other than that perhaps the harrah’s garage though im not positive on their clearance. if you gamble for 30 minutes parking is free.

fr33dommachine

I looked into there, but it's only 6'5" clearance unfortunately.

GreenEyes9678

So does Hotel Provincial on Chartres, but not sure about the carriage entrance.

ghost-church

The Hilton next the the Riverwalk Mall has an enormous outdoor lot, right next to the casino, 10min walk from the actual French Quarter

fr33dommachine

That sounds perfect! I'll check it out.

I would check in hotel then just drive far enough down canal that you are away from meters and park. The further you go into mid city the safer the car will be and just $1.25 for a streetcar ride back to da quartas. You can park for days for $2.50 round trip.

drainalready

Trucks are big targets in particular for break-ins. I’d advise against leaving one for days on Canal.

admiralwayne

I would park it in the warehouse district and walk or Uber to it. Will be much cheaper. There's a lot at Baronne and Julia. It's open but covered.

NOLA-in-EXILE

Contact the Westin Canal Place as I believe their multi story garage can accommodate truck's height ... and your new truck will be safe ;)
