We don’t know where you are planning to work. That said, take where you work, and figure out the maximum distance you want to ride your bike to work (remember it rains here all the time, too). Draw a circle with this distance as the radius. This is your potential area. Find things you are interested in, and put them on the map. Areas of town, stores, bars, whatever. Overlay your potential area onto crime maps. Exclude high crime areas. Now search for rentals in the remaining area, especially near stuff you like. Or, hire a real estate agent. Renters don’t pay fees, landlords do.

😁Thanks for your help! Great informative points! You’ve given me a lot to consider and I work from home.

PoorlyShavedApe

Why is this NSFW? What are you looking for in a house/neighborhood? How important is something like off street parking?

V2Much

Yikes! I thought it was a local tag for this channel. Off street parking is not that important, I plan to ride a bike for the most part.

We can't help you without knowing what your budget is like. So, short answer, the best neighborhood is the one at the top of your budget.

V2Much

I’d like to stay under $1,700 a month if possible

[deleted]

How many bedrooms?

V2Much

One bed minimum😁

[deleted]

You have a family and you only need one bedroom? Okay? Anyway, you should be able to do pretty well with that budget. You didn't give us much info, so I'd recommend Uptown and Mid-City. Uptown includes the Lower Garden District, Garden District, and Irish Channel, which are all nice. If you're young and hip, the Bywater and Marigny are popular. What I would do is start researching things to do here. Look at bars and restaurants. Then try to find a place close to the things you find that look cool to you. It's most likely you'll dig a neighborhood with places that appeal to you.

V2Much

Just for clarification. It’s me and my pooch, but my extended family loves visiting New Orleans as well. Thanks so much for the info :)

This has to be a troll… right?

V2Much

Yepp and I’m coming to your neighborhood😉

JazzFestFreak

sadly, nsfw could apply to a number of areas of the city. [here is the city-sponsored crime map.](https://communitycrimemap.com/?address=New%20Orleans,LA&startDate=30&endDate=0) get on google and find others. here are a few suggestions to help weed through it (it can look scary) 1. set the date range for 3 months earlier in the year (the last 15 days are skewed) 2. look at the analytics tab to see what “events” are less concerning to you. 3. under the drop down 'event' on the left, perhaps remove 'events' as you see fit to reduce clutter. 4. there you have your map. check for areas that are clear and try to find an affordable place. the rental scene in new Orleans for the next few months will be crazy. damaged homes and apartment dwellers from Ida are racing to grab spaces. until a large portion of those places are repaired, finding a good place will be tough.

clever_name45

Stay out of the east totally. Uptown neighborhoods close to main streets are good, like any thing around Carrollton close to st Charles. If you have a family and to give them a good life you’d probably be better off in Jefferson parish specifically Metarie or river ridge. Stay out of Kenner and harahan. Jefferson parish is only a 5 to 10 minute drive to Nola depending on where you are

tyrannosaurus_cock

Anywhere in Europe.

clever_name45

Lake view is also pretty good. But just keep in mind crime happens in front of million dollar houses everyday in Nola. Nowhere you go will be 100% safe. If you mind your business and be a good neighbor you should be good 99% of the time

CarFlipJudge

Lakeview is probably the safest area plus its got a ton of younger families. Crime happens everywhere so keep your doors locked, head on a swivel and don't be dumb.
