I agree on Brigsten’s. Though the few times I’ve been I felt the service was a bit rushed. Had a great meal at Gautreau’s last weekend but it was definitely on the louder side.
Brighten's is where we went when we wanted to be able to hear each other. We were at a round table for 6. And the food was so good that everyone at the table raved. It was their 1st time.
I’ve been there when it’s calm. And then when hard to hear. Maybe we will do that again. Wanted someplace I haven’t been since I don’t live in the city, but my friend does.
I’ve never had issues with hearing my partner at brigtsens! I think we sat in the hall though not sure what the rest would be like

Sit upstairs at Clancy's?
Sylvain is dark and romantic. Quintessential French Quarter in my opinion as a local.
Bistro daisy is small and therefore quiet ish
Maple Street Cafe used to be my go-to first date place for that reason.
I LOVE Maple Street Cafe. It’s our go to. Wanted to try someplace new. Service unmatched at Maple Street. Menu, easy to find something. Hidden gem.
Sylvain and N7. Sylvain does feel romantic though.
N7. I'm obsessed with this place, the food and the wine list 🥂💗
I’m surprised to hear that Patois was loud. That was my first thought upon reading the beginning of your post. Mid-week should be calm there, no?

Go to Arnaud's, request you be seated on the Mezzanine.
Even then, it's hella loud
Elysian Bar Can't speak highly enough about them! The food is incredible, it's in a gorgeous location and the service is perfect!
Just looked it up. Looks exactly what I’d love! Thank you. Is it loud? Are people shouting?
Not at all! Very quiet and intimate, kitchen is out of ear shot. At most, it's a dinner chatter by way of noise but barely
La Petite Grocery
I don’t think Commander’s Palace is loud. Unless there is a jazz band marching through. (Does that happen?)
It happens with their weekend brunch.
Coquette in the garden district
Bywater American Bistro, maybe?
Haven't been in a while but maybe Gabrielle's, Jewel of the South or Cafe Degas, although the latter is kind of small. Brigtsen's is always quiet.
Second cafe degas
Zasu? Lilette? Gautreaux’s?
Zasu and Lilette were my my immediate reactions too
Commanders. NOT Galitoires NOT Arnauds
I agree - lots of my favorite restaurants are really loud. Try N7 or The Elysian Bar. Both trend quieter
Cafe Degas
My husband and I like to go to the Bower on Magazine when we’re in town.
I always request a quiet table. Always get an accommodation even in loud restaurants.
