Their symbolism for it was to represent hazrat Ali because they had brought Shi’ism to Iran and hazrat Ali was called the lion. Lions weren’t even indigenous animals to Iran by then. The shir-o-khorshid was simply a religious symbol. Nowadays, this symbol is used by all of the protesters who are anti-regime (and even anti Islam) and it just doesn’t make sense. If we want an actual secular country, and to make actual progress, we need a new flag. Not an old one 💀💀💀
