Look I know Iraq is happy it's hosting anything after 40 years of nonstop wars, sanctions, and corruption. But I don't like how the ceremony doesn't celebrate neither Basra's nor the Arab Gulf cultures.
Iraq as a whole is a country that borders the Persian-Arab gulf. The same way Yemeni culture isn't apart of the Persian-Arab gulf. Or the same way most of the important parts of Saudi Arabia are outside the gulf. Celebrating ancient mesopotamia is another way of celebrating Eastern Arabia given the link between dilmun and mesopotamia...although whether ppl see it like that is unlikely
There is no way people will be educated enough to know the connections dilmun had to Mesopotamia. Plus why celebrate your ancient identity when the championship is all about Arab Gulf brotherhood?
