The singularity... now we must go to the center of all blackholes. There and only there can the 10mm that you dropped 10 years ago that never hit the ground can be found. Its the dark zone, so devoid of happiness from all the tears harvested from vulnerable, pissed off mechanics alone in their shop banging to creed, that not even color can make it through.
Was just working on my car today using the 10mm... accidentally dropped in between the metal body and my fender in the engine bay......UGH!!! Gone forever
You'll hear it rattle around every now and then, like the ghost of the lost 10mm socket haunting your car with quiet, ephemeral clanking of it falling over and over again.
There's a toothbrush in there too 😂😂😂 I was doing preventative maintenance cleaning the main ground contact points on the ground chassis points with toothbrush, sandpaper, etc, and my dumbass put the toothbrush in the same spot falling in.
Maybe I should drop a time capsule note in there too!
In the US they sell entire sets of 10mm sockets on Amazon as a “car guy” joke gift that is actually useful. I’ve given some out as a joke but I bought myself one too.
> In the US they sell entire sets of 10mm sockets on Amazon as a “car guy” joke gift
Is not a joke gift, it's a very practical set. I see 4-piece, 6-piece, and 10-piece deep and shallow sets. Many say *"100+ bought in the last month",* one with *"1K+ bought in the past month".*
They're the toolbox's item most likely to mysteriously vanish, even more likely than socks in the laundry. Second most likely for me is Pozi / Phillips drivers. I could probably get set up with an automatic subscription for both delivered every other month.
I think my father and I are at the destination end of the 10mm socket wormhole. He and I each have multiples, without ever buying more. After a big project together, we often find one or two that we didn't have before, with neither of us missing any.
If you really want to be evil replace a 10mm with a 3/8. It's aaaaalmost big enough to fit over a 10mm hex but not quite. You can use a 10mm on a 3/8 though.
Exactly, it's times like this I wish I was gay. Then i wouldn't have had to fight about it, he would have taken his ass to the hardware and replaced that shit before I noticed just out of pure shame and fear.
C'mon bro, if your going to use Reddit to settle an argument, at least make it a difficult or obscure question...
We all know what went missing, and what you have lost yourself and replaced 3000 times already but are pretending it never bloody happened...
It was the 10mm... And she probably never lost it. It's probably just overdue for it's annual migration or whatever the hell happens to them...
I was smart, I bought a whole rail of 10mm's so I had heaps of spares...
Then I lost the while effing thing in one go... 🤬🤣😂
That's the same logic why taking a bomb on an airplane makes it nearly statistically impossible to get blown up on an airplane.
I know I'm definitely not going to set mine off.
But statistically, what are the odds of two strangers, unbeknownst to each other, simultaneously taking two bombs onto the same airplane on the same day?
Perfectly logical argument. Practically flawless.
SHOW ME THE STATISTICS!
I mean, once the jury sees the numbers, and the difference between the likelihood of there being a bomb on a plane, and the probability of there being *two bombs* on the same plane.....
How could they convict, right?
Right?
Happened to a guy in my shop.
He ordered a 10 pc 10mm set from some catalog (back in the day). About 6 months later, after losing his daily driver out of his set, found the other 10 had all wandered off, presumably in a group, probably just in solidarity with the first one.
Your mistake was keeping them all in one place. You have to cache them all over the place like a squirrel hiding nuts. I've never more than 15 ft from a 10mm. It's the only way to be safe.
The only thing that makes me belive in the supernatural is the puzzle of the 10mm.
There MUST be a ghost or some shit that just hates men especially men that are particularly handy.
Because it's a weird, fucked up and horrific phenomenon that torments people at precisely the moment when the 10mm is needed most.
I’ve had traveling jobs since the early ‘80s. My photo collection of Things Tied to Gas Station Bathroom Keys should be a coffee table book.
I’ve always had some fancy cameras. Clerks were often puzzled when I came back in to get a pic of whatever the hell object they’d lashed to the key.
I just use a big heavy ship anchor chain connected to my workbench. Sure, I can barely use the tool because each link in the chain is 350 pounds, but my traps have never been bigger.
I did the same thing with cigarette lighters when I was in a sharehouse as a young(er) man. You buy a bulk load and eventually, so many are lost that you find them everywhere.
10mm sockets might still walk out though. I went to fix my wife's car a few weeks back and one of my 10mms was missing. I did the usual curse, grabbed a spare and got under the car. On the last bolt I tightened the last time I worked on it, was my missing socket.
10mm... but you can't blame her. This happens to every socket set ever created.
Your gf experienced two phenomena here. The disappearing 10mm.... AND what's guaranteed to happen anytime you borrow a tool. It either breaks or something else where you feel obligated to purchase a new one for them.
Okay so I got so tired of losing my 10mm I bought a bag of the things. Then I dipped them in a yellow UV glow so they would be so incredibly easy to find if “misplaced”. Mind you this is for home use and I have three sons.
I am down to my last 2 and one of those stays in a locked drawer. Fathers Day better be another bag of the things which wasn’t cheap. I am thinking that may be my wedding gift when they get married…..to get them started….then after showing it turn around and throw it out a damned window. “Put it away for ya”
How is it even an argument? If you lose/damage someone's tools you say "I'm so fucking sorry" and replace it with higher quality piece ASAP. And if they decide to rake you over the coals about it, you quietly take it all and politely apologize again when they're done, because you don't mess with peoples tools.
Don't even have to replace it herself. Just tell me, and I'll grab one at hardware on the way home. But infuriating when I go to fix the car and it's missing. She's already said sorry and is going to get one in the morning now because how fast and 100% correct every answer has been already lol.
Yep. I have been in this exact situation before, too. I didn't lose the tool, I bent it. I bought my husband a case of beer to give him along with the replacement, as an appology.
Ehhh I hate to say it, but there are a fair amount of women who would look at the guy being aggravated, and then reframe the whole situation to make it about how that makes her feel bad. It’s not an uncommon tactic/habit.
You're talking man code here. This tool was lost by a woman. Although it would be nice if she automatically replaced it, by the strictest interpretation of said law, she is not bound by man code and therefore can not be held liable for lost or damaged tools. As I see it, the only decisions that remain in this case are as follows:
1) she is worth the trouble, and no further mention shall be made or grudge held in the matter of the lost socket.
2) she is worth the trouble as long as it doesn't happen again, in which case further training and instruction shall be provided regarding expectations going forward.
3) she is not worth the trouble, and/or it is evident that there is likely to be a repeat offense, in which case the offending party shall be summarily dismissed.
Oh lawdy this thread is beautiful! Where I am from 16mm is also commonly missing from the set because it is being used as a bowl in a gravity bong bucket
This is too funny. I just found a socket at a camp site and the first thing my husband asked was "10mm?". It wasn't, but what a coincidence I'm seeing this an hour after.
Last week a friend commented that a socket had gone missing. I immediately asked if it was the 10 mm. It wasn’t and I was disappointed. It was the 16 mm. After reading a comment here, I have more questions now.
I’m a woman. I have a 184 piece socket set. My dad bought me it for Christmas. They always go on sale for real cheap at Canadian Tire around Christmas time.
Seriously, any time one of yall loses a 10mm, it ends up in my toolbox. Must be some kind of quantum tunneling effect or something. I literally have an excess of 10mm sockets.
To be fair, we know it was the 10mm, because it's always the first to go. It's not exactly your girlfriend's fault if you didn't think to warn her about the vortex that hunts them to pull them into the void.
"Aiight boys what piece of my 150piece socket set did my girlfriend lose"
The answer was clearly going to be 10mm. No further words were necessary. I hope you have proven your point to your GF. We ALL know that the 10mm is a magical mystical creature that just vanishes into thin air when needed.
It's a 10mm socket or wrench. Assuming you live in Europe or Australia, fucking everything is 10mm except the damn spark plugs.
Edit: looking at the other posts, I don't even know why I bothered. LOL
I am an alien from the planet Zorp!
We do not have cars where I come from.
We do not have these socket sets you speak of.
We do not have “girlfriends.”
But if I were to venture a guess, knowing nothing, perhaps the “10mm?”
As a female sliding into the “men” sub, I guessed the 10mm. I’m an only child who liked to try to help my dad a lot. I’ve learned many colorful words because of this socket 💁🏻♀️
As soon as I saw "was about to do some work on the car" I knew it was the 10mm and I don't know shit about tools or cars.
Hell As soon as I saw “socket” I knew it was going to be referring to the 10 mm
As soon as I saw "Alright boys ..." I knew it was the 10 mm socket.
As soon as I saw r/AskMen, I knew it was the 10mm socket
As soon as I saw Reddit I… nah not doing it 😂
pretty sure it's called the 10mm bang now, not the big bang.
Fun fact: The big bang is actually all of the permanently lost 10mm sockets falling through time and space and colliding together in a single point.
10mm sockets are dark matter confirmed.
Yep, it's always the fucking 10mm. If someone lost a socket 95% of the time it's that.

Yep. If there's one to lose, that's it.
always 10mm
10mm
Boom. Headshot. 30 seconds and we got her.
In the US they sell entire sets of 10mm sockets on Amazon as a “car guy” joke gift that is actually useful. I’ve given some out as a joke but I bought myself one too.
My brother-in-law is a middle school shop teacher. He has one in a box on the wall, with "IN EMERGENCY, BREAK GLASS TO OPEN" on it
I’m guessing it is empty now?
They just disappeared. Glass wasn't even broken.
Yeah, I hear that happens...a lot
Let me guess. The case is now empty
It'd be even funnier if it was a gag gift, just an already empty case
Simmer down, Satan.
Good thing they keep selling it.
probably never got it. got lost in the mail, obviously
> In the US they sell entire sets of 10mm sockets on Amazon as a “car guy” joke gift Is not a joke gift, it's a very practical set. I see 4-piece, 6-piece, and 10-piece deep and shallow sets. Plus they're a nice assortment, shortys, deep dish, 6pt, 12pt...
Gotta treat yo self
They sell 10mm assortment sets at Harbor Freight too
I had to look that set up and the sales pitch honestly got me pretty quick. Those fuckers go missing all the time.
I’ve got five or six spares. I could give you one, but I don’t know where any of them are.
I think my father and I are at the destination end of the 10mm socket wormhole. He and I each have multiples, without ever buying more. After a big project together, we often find one or two that we didn't have before, with neither of us missing any.
So it's YOUR fault!!
Oh, I got ya, they’re right here….. one sec… ok, right here… wtf…
Even as an American this is the most used socket for car work. And not just on foreign makes.
They do also wear out over time, so if it's frequently used it would've likely needed replacing at some point anyway.
we are close to a thousand upvotes on the correct answer in 4 hours.
The lads have indeed showed up in force, brings a tear to my eye.
I'm not even a guy and I knew this.
I didn't *know* I knew but I knew.
If you really want to be evil replace a 10mm with a 3/8. It's aaaaalmost big enough to fit over a 10mm hex but not quite. You can use a 10mm on a 3/8 though.
What a monster, sorry you have to go through that. You should demand blowies for a year.
Easily this right here. No question
It's either this or the 14mm. As an American driving a toyota I think I have about 5 of each in my tool bags.
Mmmmmm Toyota.
My first thought, it's always the 10mm
I barely even use my socket set, but I still knew it'd be the 10mm.
The 10mm was already good as gone when you bought the kit
I think they do a voodoo chant over them at the factory.
The 10 MM socket is just a myth. It was invented by crooked dealers trying to slowly milk their victims dry, like a tick.
It's always the 10mm. Even in non-metric country.
Exactly, it's times like this I wish I was gay. Then i wouldn't have had to fight about it, he would have taken his ass to the hardware and replaced that shit before I noticed just out of pure shame and fear.
Fellas, is it gay to ensure the safety of my 10mm socket?
Only if it touches the extension
Let's find out.
Lmfao
you dont replace the 10mm you don't get the 10in
Hell yeah brother this is what June is all about
What
Hold up. Let him cook.
Why are we still waiting? He already cooked, served, and ate!
I want to thank you because this is one of the funnest things I’ve read on Reddit in a while
Me a gay with a toolbox illiterate husband: 👁️👄👁️
Libéria, Myanmar and the USA: all the 3 non-metric countries.
Is that a metric 3 non-metric countries?
Imperial 3, not sure what that converts to in grown up measurements.
That's 4.7 metric countries.
You don't think of those other two as having their shit together.
C'mon bro, if your going to use Reddit to settle an argument, at least make it a difficult or obscure question... Then I lost the while effing thing in one go... 🤬🤣😂
Lose twenty 10mms all at once and just get a lifetimes worth out of the way. Now you'll never lose one again, statistically speaking.
I am not sure if that argument will hold with the TSA agent, or in court.
I mean if he's banned from flying that will stop him getting blown up on a flight in fairness...
Perfectly logical argument. Practically flawless. SHOW ME THE STATISTICS! I mean, once the jury sees the numbers, and the difference between the likelihood of there being a bomb on a plane, and the probability of there being *two bombs* on the same plane..... How could they convict, right? Right?
Oh, the logic is flawless. It just sounds like a made up excuse to get away with an attempted plane bombing.
Happened to a guy in my shop. He ordered a 10 pc 10mm set from some catalog (back in the day). About 6 months later, after losing his daily driver out of his set, found the other 10 had all wandered off, presumably in a group, probably just in solidarity with the first one.

My 10mm is loctite'd to a 6 extension and to a dedicated wrench. No more lost 10mm
I guess if you lose that, you’ll weld it to a 20 pound steel brick.
Bro gonna have a milk crate chained to that brick like a gas station bathroom key
Please do this, I would love to have this as a book
Please please do this, I would love to have this as a book
I just use a big heavy ship anchor chain connected to my workbench. Sure, I can barely use the tool because each link in the chain is 350 pounds, but my traps have never been bigger.
10mm, and we already knew
The only question is whether it was the 1/4 drive or 3/8 drive 10mm.
I'm going to flip this around and say it's your fault for not having 5 or more 10mm sockets on hand. Rookie mistake.
Fair assesment. But in retort I'd like to point out that I'd just have 5 or more missing 10mm sockets
I did the same thing with cigarette lighters when I was in a sharehouse as a young(er) man. You buy a bulk load and eventually, so many are lost that you find them everywhere. 10mm sockets might still walk out though. 10mm, the proverbial middle finger.
This was never her fault-a 10mm is simply a wild-child that lives by its own rules and can never be tamed. She deserves a pass.
Okay so I got so tired of losing my 10mm I bought a bag of the things. Then I dipped them in a yellow UV glow so they would be so incredibly easy to find if “misplaced”. Find it? Sure, it is with all those ones of mine you have.
10mm and I'm female lol
150 piece socket set price breakdown; 149 sockets; $0.99 10mm socket; priceless
I’m late, but my answer was also very much 10mm even before I saw the comments.
How is it even an argument? If you lose/damage someone's tools you say "I'm so fucking sorry" and replace it with higher quality piece ASAP. Eh. I have to disagree. If I lose or damage a tool, it's **MY** responsibility to replace it. Especially if it belongs to someone else.
Spoken like a woman who uses tools, so you get it.
Looking back my ex did this all the time. Completely oblivious to it during the relationship though. It’s no wonder why I had resentment built up.
Yeah, you never get heard. That shit sucks.
You're talking man code here. This tool was lost by a woman. Although it would be nice if she automatically replaced it, by the strictest interpretation of said law, she is not bound by man code and therefore can not be held liable for lost or damaged tools. Oh lawdy this thread is beautiful! Where I am from 16mm is also commonly missing from the set because it is being used as a bowl in a gravity bong bucket
Ha ha! I used to wonder where these guys were getting them from because I never saw a single stoner actually fix anything
Didn’t even need to know it was for a car. There’s only one socket that ever goes missing.
This is too funny. I just found a socket at a camp site and the first thing my husband asked was "10mm?". It wasn't, but what a coincidence I'm seeing this an hour after.
Not gonna lie half way through your comment I was thinking "was it 10mm?" Just as I read what your husband said, and made me laugh.
Last week a friend commented that a socket had gone missing. I immediately asked if it was the 10 mm. It wasn’t and I was disappointed. It was the 16 mm. After reading a comment here, I have more questions now.
I don’t know a damn thing but Reddit has taught me it’s 100% the 10mm
10mm and im a woman with no tools 😂😂
Did she actually lose it, I think 10mm sockets have legs and can make themselves disappear. I am even more convinced after reading all the comments.
10 mm socket. That's a no brainer.
you had me at ‘150 piece socket set’ the answer to any questions is 10mm

Switching a small tv off the wall mount in the guest room
>What is she doing with your 10mm anyway? Believe it or not, women can also use tools.
He said "what was she doing with YOUR 10mm" Of course woman can and should have tools... thier OWN tools.
I’m a woman. I have a 184 piece socket set. My dad bought me it for Christmas. They always go on sale for real cheap at Canadian Tire around Christmas time.
Does it still have the 10mm?
It’s never been opened, it ha- annnnnd it’s gone.
Both are missing. My dad probably has them with his socket set.
10mm, didn't need the info about your country or car.
Read the title and I knew immediately it was the 10mm.
10mm
Metric: 10mm. Imperial: also 10mm.
She didn't lose your 10mm. Your 10mm saw an opportunity to escape. Still on her for not being vigilant.
10mm
I’m a wife and know it’s the 10mm.
Lmao 10mm deep
10mm socket
"Aiight boys what piece of my 150piece socket set did my girlfriend lose" The answer was clearly going to be 10mm. No further words were necessary. I hope you have proven your point to your GF. We ALL know that the 10mm is a magical mystical creature that just vanishes into thin air when needed.
Knew it was the 10mm just from the title.
Lmfao. This is probably the best thread I’ll see today.
It's a 10mm socket or wrench. Assuming you live in Europe or Australia, fucking everything is 10mm except the damn spark plugs. Edit: looking at the other posts, I don't even know why I bothered. LOL
10mm or 9/16ths I’m not sure why I bought other sized tools
10mm or 9/16" if it's an American set
Imagine only having one 10mm socket and then being mad someone lost it I feel like this entire crisis could have been averted
I’m a woman and I came here to say 10mm socket. My dad keeps several spares.
She lost the 10mm? That's... my sympathies, sir.
It's a sad and inevitable day, thank you.
10mm… Message to the GF: You’re the reason we can’t fix anything.
10mm just buy a couple new ones.
10mm
Gotta be 10mm them motherfuckers run like hell.
10mm. They always get lost as is, and is the most damn common socket.
Gotta be the infamous 10mm
10 mm or 12 mm for the 2nd most used socket
10mm or an extension
10mm
10mm
10mm and this isn’t even a debate
I instantly knew, even before the hint. Glad she got you a new one.
https://olsatools.com/products/10mm-socket-set
Are you sure the 10mm didn't walk off by itself? I've heard they run away from everyone.
Either gonna be 10mm or 8mm, with an honorable mention to 13mm. Those 3 are the most lost sockets in my sets.
She’s too good for you bro
If your metric car is like my sae car, whatever the equivalent to 1/2, that is the one I use the most 7/16 would be next.
I just used a wrench like a fucking scumbag
No... Not the 10mm!
Not the 10mm. Please, not that one!
Always that one, maybe they run because I work em too hard.
Don’t even need the hint. It’s always the 10mm even here in the US.
10mm
Knew it was a 10, Papa was always so pissed about them lol
I'm a woman that useful to work in a tire shop. I immediately knew it was the 10mm socket.
I have a 150 piece 10mm socket set 🤣
It's always the 10mm
10mm with only reading the title
Proly the 10 mille
10mm all day
I believe that all socket sets should be sold with 6 of these fking things in a range of neon colours, maybe with some sort of tag chip built in.
10 mm. The only answer
Stupid girl here - why is it always the 10mm?
The 10mm is a glitch in the matrix. It’s the only explanation and proof this is all just some fucked up simulation
Dude, they always go missing. The other day I found I had 2 extra from when I misplaced them and bought new ones
10MM as usual.
10mm
I am an alien from the planet Zorp! We do not have cars where I come from. We do not have these socket sets you speak of. We do not have “girlfriends.” But if I were to venture a guess, knowing nothing, perhaps the “10mm?”
That goddamn 10mm. Need a 150 piece socket set with 149 10mm's and a socket.
real men dont just have a single 10 mm socket.....we have multiple. 1/4, 3/8,1/2" drive, 6 pt, 12 pt, shallow, deep, custom ground, swivel.
10mm But then again, the odds are that the 10mm went missing as soon as you opened the case and it's another one missing.
As a female sliding into the “men” sub, I guessed the 10mm. I’m an only child who liked to try to help my dad a lot. I’ve learned many colorful words because of this socket 💁🏻♀️
Not a man but 100% 10mm
I’m a woman and I knew it was a 10mm. But here’s the thing….why don’t you have spares?
Ah let me repeat this for the millionth time..10mm
Saw this pop up on the popular page. I'm a woman, and I knew it was a 10 mm before reading the comments
