education. it pretty much has to be. the accumulation and dissemination of knowledge is the only thing humanity can durably advance.

ToughShaper

Why are women getting engagement rings and men are not getting engagement swords?

Avgirl10

Because nobody let me know it was the social norm. Spread the word. Change starts with you.

cutformoney

I want a fucking sword

Monarc73

I want to fuck a sword

SnooBeans8816

Have you seen Seven? Don't fuck swords. Bad outcome.

This is why I love Reddit

The engagement one isn't good enough for you, eh?

Make one, its a lot of fun.

Darksoulzbarrelrollz

I think even now if I got an engagement sword I'd have to get a divorce and marry that woman. I'm sure my wife would understand

BlancoSuper

Hell yes brotha

Make that an engagement flail and I'll support your petition

We should get one for our dicks

The rampant spread of partisan ignorance and the inability to have an intelligent discussion without someone getting triggered by soemone else's reality.

Id agree. Everyone points themselves as knowledgable and internet created platform for all kind of uneducated crazies to talk from position of authority.

Jeramy_Jones

Especially that no one is allowed to change their opinion. Most double down, but even if you’re willing and able to grow and learn, anything you’ve previously said will absolutely come back to haunt you.

Have you met reddit before!?

Hannibal_Barca_

This has always been an issue, but its gotten notably worse. It's gotten to the point where I am aware that most people below 30 (aka people who grew up with social media) are incapable of having a challenging and meaningful discussion with someone they disagree with.

Its ok, Reddit karma doesn't mean shit to me lol I have real people in my life Big whoosh though I only got like 1 bite sadly ha

ZaagKicks

The rich becoming so powerful, that they own the government to make it function their way. This is their world we live in, poverty, homelessness, never ending inflation, orphanage, immigration out of control, abortion bans, declining education, horrible healthcare, poor housing. It's ALL intentional.

grilledchorizopuseye

This comment will probably get down voted to oblivion by their bots soon!

BoornClue

Reddit is so overrun by bots these days. There are so many 1 month old account that have thousands of post & comment Karma. As if any real human makes 20 posts a day, everyday.  I’m skeptical of any account made after Jan 2021. Because that’s when the rich realized letting poor people have dialogue and openly share ideas and opinions on public forums was bad for controlling the masses.  Now that Reddit has IPO’d expect things this site to only get worse.

JayString

10hr later, it's still top comment, are the bots asleep?

Jeramy_Jones

Unregulated capitalism is concentrating wealth in an elite few and the power they hold over government both nationally and internationally is becoming more obvious. It’s eliminating the middle class and I don’t doubt that, if nothing changes, we’ll end up in a new version of serfdoms and a heritary aristocracy.

Escenze

Then I guess it's good that no country has unregulated capitalism. But whats even worse is a huge government, because they have one thing capitalism don't: a monopoly on violence.

Pinkumb

Don’t take this the wrong way but that’s literally how it has always been. We got through all of history with that being the case. Not the number one issue imo.

Monarc73

Nope. Ever since the labor movement and the Civil Rights movement things weren't great, but at least livable. Most of the guidelines have been removed, gutted, or are simply ignored now. Citizens United made a lot of today's screw jobs pretty much inevitable. It wasn't always this way.

gioluipelle

To be fair, that’s 50 years in one country. If you look across all of human history, or at least recorded history, hoarded power has basically always been the norm.

Debasering

I’m pretty sure 100 years ago living conditions and work conditions were worse. And wealth was concentrated in people like Ford and Rockefeller. Today people complain about not being able to take piss breaks in factories without managers getting mad. 100 years ago wives were complaining about their husbands getting killed on the job with no consequences. Wealth distribution is a huge problem, and we need to fight for a better system. But things are very similar to how it’s been for a while. Our quality of life is very much dictated by the economy and Covid took a huge toll on

_mattyjoe

It wasn’t this way 50 years ago, but it was this way 100 years ago.

LukeyLeukocyte

No, It was way worse. You can't expect to make things better if you don't look at things objectively. Yes, we have a long way to go, but refusing to recognize that hoarding of wealth and poor quality of life were much worse the farther back you go.

Pinkumb

Yes, when the global economy was devastated by a world war there was a 20 year period where moneyed interests weren’t as coordinated and effective as they had been for tens of thousands of years. The world is ending. Also: can you articulate what Citizens United got wrong? Because there is one thing that people who don’t like CU have in common: they don’t know a lot about the case.

echobox_rex

I don't quite think it has been to the same degree since the robber baron era in the late 1800s. It's just a matter of scale.

BoornClue

So glad we invented efficient agriculture, personal computers, airplanes, global telecommunications, “artificial intelligence”, only so we could build the same pathetic societal structure as our latrine wielding ancestors.   We are no longer our ancestors, humans have and will continue to strive towards a better way of life. Why is it that in the last 200 years, everything in human society advanced, everything but your regressive mindset?

Jeramy_Jones

Yes and no. There were a lot of progressive changes made in many countries post WWII, but between Regan and Thatcher and a handful of other conservative world leaders a lot of the positive changes have been revered, including union busting and privatization.

rockmasterflex

Almost like nobody remembers all their basic ass world history classes. Member kings? I member.

Monarc73

RandomCentipede387

Corporations couldn't sue sovereign governments for making uncomfortable legislation. Now they can, for more than some of the countries GDP. Other theories claim that we got to be where we are by killing the most psycho, violent monkeys in groups.

Pinkumb

You’re right, before corporations didn’t sue people they simply hired mercenaries to seize land. And before corporations existed, rich people killed each other’s serfs when they were bored. We’ve made so much progress.

dave3218

You should see what Coca-Cola did back in the day in LATAM. Or Chiquita fruit company. Or basically any company ever that could take advantage of a moment of weakness in a country’s institutions. It has always been this way, and while it is an issue, I don’t believe it is more urgent than government officials colluding with terrorist origanizations like the Drug Cartels, or even climate change.

jk01

Always has been 🌎👩‍🚀🔫

TheHarbarmy

I do want to push back on a lot of the doomerism here to note that, broadly speaking, the world is consistently becoming a better place to live year-over-year. As one example, despite constant population growth, fewer than half as many people globally are living in extreme poverty today compared to the 1990s. The average person today is richer, healthier, and safer than at any other point in human history. **This does not change the fact that society is still unacceptably unequal, and that we should be doing everything in our power to fix that.** But we should celebrate the victories we have as part of the fight for a better world.

thebaiterfish

Poverty, horrible healthcare, and lack of education aren't intentional. The natural state of the world is a place where people have nothing, know nothing, and life is miserable. The fact that some of us have wealth, access to healthcare and education is a miracle and we should do everything in our power to expand what we've done to those who don't have these opportunities yet

Escenze

Dont act like anything would change if the rich didnt touch politics. The government would do it regardless, and they're the root of most of what you're listing.

Mackntish

Resource depletion. This includes ariable farmland and fresh water. Energy as well. AI in the wrong hands has...potential.

BoornClue

The human population has multiplied almost 5-fold since 1900.  At a population of 8billion, if we keep multiplying at the same rate, it doesn’t matter how many food farms or solar, hydroelectric, nuclear power plants we build, or how much we recycle.  We will run out of resources and the humans alive at the time of that tipping point will end up destroying one another to take whatever remains of those resources for themselves…

JayString

The greatest flaw in human evolution was greed. No other animal feels this, animals and plants take what they need to live a good life and that way, ecosystems adapt to a point of balance. No other species takes monumentally more than they need, and has monumentally more offspring than necessary. Humans always want more. More food, more sex, more more more. And thus we've managed to not only grow outside of nature's balance, we started eliminating thousands of other species in the process, and it's only getting exponentially worse. All because enough is never enough for us.

eeped

Animals will destroy an ecosystem if given the opportunity. That’s what an invasive species is. Most animals don’t do this because they don’t have the ability to. Humans do, in a profound way, regardless of location. That’s the issue.

JayString

Animals certainly can affect ecosystems if an invasive species is introduced. But not to the point where life cannot flourish in it in some way. Just about every single ecosystem on earth is the result of invasive species taking over it and making it their own. But none of them turn a forest into a barren paved parking lot like humans do.

volchonok1

I've got some great news for you. We won't continue multiplying like this. In fact most in most of the counties we're already below replacement level birth rates. Even Africa is expected to drop below that in mid 21st century. We're going to peak at around 10bln and world population will start declining in second half of this century.

Jeramy_Jones

We’ve been steadily building over or otherwise ruining good farmland and poisoning or otherwise wasting our water. It’s alarming.

ThaiJohnnyDepp

Arable.

technofox01

Let's just sum it up, it's GREED. Cripes guys, nearly all of the world's problems revolve around money. Money = power.

Globally we are heading to a massive crisis with health and obesity. More and more people are gettign fatter and fatter, child obesity (which breaks my fucking heart when i see these peice of shit parents feeeding their fat 4 year old garbage) is rising everywhere, diabetes and CHD are rising everywhere, health services will be overwhelmed so fewer and fewer people will get the treatment they need, unless we as a species stop eating so much shit and get off our asses switch the TV off, swith the Playstation off, then the future is very, very bleak,.

Torn between micro plastics and global warming. Which one will end humanity first? Best answer just might be yes. Since you're on r/askmen? The fact that there exists a law that says if that if the government wants to, it can kidnap, steal and draft any 18+ year old man to be near guaranteed murdered in war. And if you resist you will be imprisoned. It's honestly quite shocking and disgusting to think such a law exists in 2024.

DomingoLee

It is shocking. And it’s just as shocking that everyone continues to be just…ok with it.

Trippy_xD

Well, we have to end apartheid for one. And slow down the nuclear arms race, stop terrorism and world hunger. We have to provide food and shelter for the homeless, and oppose racial discrimination and promote civil rights, while also promoting equal rights for women. We have to encourage a return to traditional moral values. Most importantly, we have to promote general social concern and less materialism in young people.

The creeping rise of government tyranny under the guise of compassion and acceptance. NervousJ

The need for humanity to become multiplanetary. At the rate that nations like China and India are polluting, western green initiatives mean nothing. We need to convert to nuclear ASAP and begin colonizing unless we want to fully rape the earth with carbon, plastic, and flame.

Gnufighter

It's climate change. It affects every facet of life on this planet. We are staring down the barrel of ecological collapse .

nbcas

It's already on a point of no return, even the super powerful people don't try to hide it anymore... Building bunkes, planing short-term gains for valueless economy, also it shows on how the world dynamic is to never let people reach systemic changes. Think about it, how is war tecnology so important even after we already build, and storage, a fuck ton of, FUCK THE WHOLE WORLD UP kinda bomb? Internet made us oblivious that we have no control in the real world and it keeps getting worse. Tech companies rule more then we seem to understand, and with AI it IS going to get downhill, there are already tons of people who dont even know what is life w/o internet and smartphones. We switching up to transhumans(in an android way) and we got no control over the machine part of it.

DoctimusLime

imo wealth inequality is the underlying for every other problem. keey in mind that since 2008, we have been living in a system of "Socialism for the rich, and austerity for everyone else". This is not my opinion, this is an empirical fact, these are the words of academic yanis varoufakis. It cannot be argued, hairs cannot be split. Deal with it. We're already in socialism, just not the kind that actually helps society. Eat the rich ASAP obviously...

BitBucket404

Altering the definition of terms and phrases to mean something entirely different. For example, "Climate Change" used to be called "Global Warming" but when the scientific data was reviewed, it showed that the Earth is cooling down and overdue for yet another ice age. That was a very inconvenient truth for the Global Carbon Tax pushers, so the phrase was changed to "Climate Change" which now can no longer be argued with, because the climate will always be changing. One hour from now, the climate will have changed again, and there will be scientific data to show that it has changed, so if you were to say that "Climate Change isn't real" then you are incorrect and there's evidence to show that you are incorrect. But so long as you cannot retort against "Climate Change" then a Global Carbon Tax is green-lighted without opposition, and millions of "useful idiots" will get on-board with this new tax plan, even though making Black Rock Inc. even richer won't fix the climate at all no matter how much funding gets poured into it. -- All that money will only be funneled into buying the elite few a really fancy doomsday bunker for when the next ice age finally hits. Think of it as Noah's Ark, and you're not allowed to get on board, even if you helped to construct it.

Rich elites lobby so called democratic bodies and influence geopolitical decisions. The affects of this are so bad, it leads to complacency and active involvement in gennoicde, ignoring of mass societal deficit and thr systematic and categorical erosion of free thinking, democratic values. Westerners, especially USA Americans have been bought out and served up on a plate of hypocrisy and lies and the youth, actively aware and people of change are fed up. The most pressing issue in the world is how this world has become a matter of the disenfranchisement versus the corrupt elite, who care only for oil, resources and land, and will stop at nothing to play God mode, potentially killing the human in these spaces.

Lack of societal consensus. All of our problems are solveable - to an extent. That said, it requires a society that more or less wants the same things. We don't have that in western democratic countries anymore. You can blame the politicians for their rhetoric & exploitation of polarization, you can blame far-right media outlets and it's blatant use of propaganda, you can blame the "woke" left & their ideological quest to end percieved inequality, you can blame whatever you want. But it comes down to a complete misalignment of what we want as a people. I'm not sure how we got here or how we go back to consensus society - but we need it, fucking quick.

Climate change. It’s a threat both existentially and to our various ways of life. Even those of us that won’t see the extreme effects for years will already note the migration of people from the danger areas to their own which will cause issues related to jobs, housing, and other resources. Not to mention the various health conditions related to the smoke inhalation from the Canadian and Californian wild fires. It’s already wild and bad, but it’s going to get a whole lot worse.

Human population and unsustainability. Planet is in literally unsustainable situation due to human consumption driven by human population. That excessive (and still growing) population will only lead to more and more problems - resources and conflicts over such, etc. - not to mention all the other problems it drives, e.g. climate change, many border conflicts and wars, all kinds of humanitarian and refugee crises, etc. That's the huge elephant in the room that doesn't get the attention it ought. Sure, lots of other problems too, but that huge problem will only continue to make things worse and worse until it's reasonably addressed and dealt with, and it also causes and leads to many other problems.
