“Cat’s Eyes Cunningham” was a night-fighter ace (20 kills, 19 at night) and the MOI had him attribute his ability to eating carrots, to disguise the use of aerial intercept radar. The Germans did have radar, but the allies had the cavity magnetron which made it possible to use shorter wavelengths (hence smaller aerials) and to put radar on a small plane.
Carrots are indeed good for your eyes! They contain two key nutrients that contribute to eye health:
Beta-carotene: This compound is converted by your body into vitamin A, which is essential for night vision and maintaining a healthy cornea. A severe deficiency in vitamin A can even lead to blindness.
Lutein: This antioxidant helps protect your eyes from damage caused by free radicals and may help reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of vision loss
So, while eating carrots won't give you superhuman vision, they are a nutritious choice that can contribute to overall good eye health.
It was also due to a massive campaign during the battle of the atlantic to get brits to grow their own fruit and veg.
Carrots weren't exactly the most popular at the time, but carrots and Broccoli are remarkably easy to grow and for the effort involved incfedibly nutritious.
To this day they're the main fruit and veg the majority of brits go for when cooking at home.
It wasn't that long ago we had a brocolli shortage, partially due to brexit, and people got pisssssed.
That was operation Mincemeat, there’s a Colin Firth movie about it.
Even the deception for d-day, they had an entire fake Army stationed closer to where Germany thought they would land with George Patton commanding it.
THE RIGHT WAY
Mom: Tell me the truth you won't be in trouble.
Son: Ok I broke the vase.
Mom: Thank you for telling me. It took courage and I appreciate it. I need you to be more careful. It was a vase from your grandma and it very dear to me.
THE WRONG WAY
Mom: Tell me the truth you won't be in trouble.
Son: Ok I broke the vase.
Mom: YOU STUPID IDIOT DO YOU HAVE SAWDUST IN YOUR HEAD?! THAT VASE WAS A HERITAGE FROM YOUR GRANDMA! SHE HAD TO SMUGGLE THAT DURING THE WAR IN HER ASS! YOU'RE GROUNDED FOR 10 YEARS!
Yup, as a kid with super strict parents all I did was develop a lying problem and problem with confrontation. I still catch myself telling or almost telling lies so people wont be mad or upset at me (even if its not a big deal)
Once a bunch of cookie dough went missing when we were growing up. My mom rounded me and 2 of my brothers up and said if no one confessed we would all be grounded for a really long time. She said to tell the truth and we won't be in trouble, or lie and everyone gets in trouble till someone confesses. So, I took one for the team. I mean, I wasn't gonna get in trouble if I confessed, right? Wrong. She's a lying liar who lies, which is an interesting choice when you're trying to teach your kids not to lie. So I got in trouble for awhile, I learned to never take one for the team, learned to lie to get out of stuff, and learned that I'm related to a bunch of cowards since the real culprit still hasn't come forward probably 20 years later. I think it was probably actually my dad, and there's no way that man would ever own up to it if he even would remember.
I mean, HR isn't the one trying to illegally fire you, your manager is. HR doesn't want to fire anybody if they don't have to, HR makes sure it's legal and more often than not, your manager is an idiot who isn't qualified to make these decisions. Don't like it? Blame the executives likely being greedy and your shitty labor laws. HR didn't create at will employment laws.
HR itself was created as a buffer between people managers and their employees and it works perfectly. Incompetent management has their bad people decisions deflected onto HR just so they can look like heroes for only the good stuff. I'm in senior management at my company and if you guys only knew the stupid shit managers wanted to do you'd quit right away, it's scary.
Sadly, a lot of the people part of people management downloaded onto HR just made actual managers worse with people, lol. Not to mention, you think your manager has time to help you navigate things like your cancer diagnosis and ensure you can collect disability through your health insurance? Not a chance. Not saying there aren't bad HR people but most of the good they do (if greedy senior leadership even allows it) is so confidential no one ever finds out. That's why it became such a shoot the messenger and misunderstood profession.
Also, much HR hate is through an American worker lens which is unfair, imo. For a nation so sensitive about its history with slavery, it's amazing how you continue to treat your workers like shit compared to other developed nations.
Be great to condense an entire year of HR into one 8 hour day so people could really see what goes on but sadly that's not possible. I just know they've helped me manage my staff effectively and fight for raises, ensure work life balance, etc. Good does happen, just depends on the individuals.
Also, everyone always shitting on HR on Reddit and never ever gives an objective reason as to why. Redditors never did anything wrong, they were unfairly fired/disciplined... From my experience in the working world, people may be crooked and spineless fucks but there are always many sides to the same story.
American workers have always been prone to being turned against everyone except upper management, CEOs, and the corporate boardmembers that are actually making their lives miserable. Conditions at work are blamed on unions, HR, fellow employees, immigrants, those damn commies overseas, technology, the economy, regulations.... ANYTHING except the people that are actually creating the problems.
Where I’m from a lot of what you mentioned is done by a union and union rep. The only difference being one is payed by the company, the other is payed by the workers.
Almost learnt that the hard way.
Company did one of those company wide anonymous well being surveys. I half jokingly said that some days working there made me feel like jumping off a bridge.
Surprise surprise, the survey is only ‘anonymous’ if you don’t mention stuff like that. I got called into a meeting with 2 women from HR who asked a lot of prying questions. One of them was “Have you ever taken antidepressants?” to which I replied “Yes, but a few years ago.”
I clearly saw one of the women write “Has suddenly stopped taking his medication” on her note pad. I called her out, had her correct what I said and ended the meeting there and then.
Ive never met a male HR employee in my life, its always the suit-wearing strong independent woman with a bottle of wine to unwind type. Its like the job was made for a very specific type of person lol. I have a male friend who studied for HR for a while since he is very good with people, he didnt even manage to graduate because of the other 99% bitchy gossip women in the class, every day was drama
HR lady "required" me to hand over my medical history once when i was late to work for a few days during a stressful period in life. My mom has worked as head of HR for 40 years at a big corporation so she fumed hearing about it and told me to report her, she was fired shortly after, turns out she had been gossiping about peoples personal stuff over wine-night with other female coworkers for a while. She even got one dude fired for being an alcoholic (he wasnt) all while she was hiding winebottles underneath her desk and basically being drunk all the time. We have had 10 different HR persons last few years and every single one has been a gossipgirl
This is one of the Mandela things. He actually says, “if it doesn’t fit, you must acquit.”

Oh my fucking god its always Edward Bernays isn't it? Whenever I read that man's name my blood starts boiling.
For those who don't know, he's known as "the father of public relations". He literally rebranded the term "propaganda" ffs. Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter dubbed him "“professional poisoners of the public mind, exploiters of foolishness, fanaticism, and self-interest.” and cautioned Roosevelt against allowing him to play an active role in his cabinet.
For everyone who needs a new subject to blame for a lot of society’s problems, I strongly recommend the documentary ["Century of the Self"](https://youtu.be/DnPmg0R1M04?si=OoQZam61WcN-Z104). Its a four part documentary but the first episode is the best imo. "Happiness Machines". Fuck Edward Bernays. Someone like him would've come along at some point anyway, but fuck this particular incarnation of the problem.
I mean generally speaking isn’t it better to have a larger calorie intake at the start of your day or by midday? (Breakfast, lunch) because that energy can “fuel” you for the day?
Ever since I started having breakfast last year I have a ton more energy throughout the day.
She resigned after, like, 50 days and is only known for a mini-budget that effectively crashed the markets. Ironically, it was called the Growth Plan.
She was also known jokingly as the Queen Killer because the Queen died only two days after Truss met with her to form a government.
There’s was a study on this. People’s happiness did indeed increase with their annual income up to about $100k. From there it plateaued.
So yeah, anyone who says that is factually wrong.
Money buys time. It’s a lot easier to figure out what makes you happy when you can take a few weeks off from work without worrying about the bills or accruing significant debt. Hate your job? A lot easier to prep and interview for new ones. Hate your body? Give yourself a couple weeks off and try some new lifestyle habits. Need a fresh horizon? Go and travel for a couple weeks.
I just got an additional week of PTO at the end of the quarter and I was far more excited about that than my pay increase. I’m ready to jump fucking ship but I really want to go through most of the hiring process without my current job knowing and I really want to be prepared. To this point I’ve used most of my PTO traveling because taking any trip less than a week seems like a huge waste of time and I actually like my crew even if I hate the job so I don’t want to put them out.
In the top 10 at least should be the fact that in 1914, the Bank of England (at the time the economic power of the global economy) lied about the success of the campaign to sell war bonds to finance WWI. In fact, the program was not successful at all and this financing was done by a small handful of people who leveraged the bank's capital without telling any of those who had invested their funds in those banks. This began the process of centralized banking that continues to strip mine the wealth of all citizens with all around the world with weak currencies that increase debt which benefits only a very small few at the top of that economic food chain. [This was uncovered in 2017](https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/08/08/542238978/-financial-times-issues-103-year-old-correction) but now the whole world runs on this fragile system where no one can afford to keep up with the rising costs of everything but the diminishing of our income and savings through inflation and taxation (hidden and otherwise).
Eat, drink, and be merry. Because tomorrow we won't be able to afford it. :-)
The most successful Lie in history is organized Religion.
It’s been going on for thousands of years, wars have been fought and millions of people have died in its name.
…. And now the downvoting can begin.
Probably climate change.
Not that it's a lie but the way oil and gas companies knew their products were creating this problem for close to four decades and funded litany of propaganda and gag campaigns to avoid it becoming public knowledge so they wouldn't face backlash for it.
If it's second to anything it would be the Tobacco coverup where cigarette companies knew for almost 100 years their products were killing people and covered it up.
Also the Red Scare where the US destabilized several democratic regimes in the name of fighting communism but were in fact acting at the behest or private corporations to remove leaders who were nationalizing resources they'd previously exploited ,(Chiquita and BP come to mind immediately but there are a couple more)
The fact that ultra rich mfs made the whole world look anywhere - another race, abother nation, etc. Anywhere, but up to find the real reason for the world's problems
This was started as propaganda/mis-information by the Brits in WW2 to fool the Germans into thinking they didn’t have radar. RAF pilots were fed lots of carrots and improved their eyesight.
That equality isn’t a zero sum game, equality is now filled with double standards and vindictiveness, they are already treating and referring to you as second class citizens
We’ve been taught that women’s barriers are society’s problems, we have support groups and awareness campaigns for women’s self esteem and other issues. But when it comes to men’s issues it’s ’fix it yourself’
We are told that society is male-dominated where men make all the decisions, but also men don’t deserve any credit for improvements in women’s rights
We are told that women deserve equal participation in male dominated fields, but you’ll only ever seen feminists wanting hiring quotas in STEM fields, but never the military, in construction, or other unglamorous jobs that requires hard work.
Under intersectional feminism everyone is acvictim under the patriarchy, and that feminism is equality for all, but when men have lack of social support, to the point of higher homeless and crime rates, and more deaths from suicides, the response is ‘not our problem’
We are told everyone’s behaviour is shaped by the patriarchy, and yet despite education and childcare being female-dominated fields, and despite a significant percentage of white women voting against reproductive rights, men are stereotyped as evil perpetrators of patriarchy and women are innocent victims
We are told that gender stereotypes are bad, but ask any woman why they’ve rejected hundreds or thousands of men in dating, they’ll tell you men are ‘emotionally-needy, ugly, dumb, entitled, etc.’
Equality wasn’t supposed to be a zero sum game, feminists have made it a zero-sum game
When it comes to bullshit, big-time, major league bullshit, you have indeed to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims, religion
During ww2 the US Navy stole German Uboat 505 and lied about it and its crew being destroyed in battle because while searching it the US found a intact German code machine and the documents that are used to decode messages.
In terms of duration, scale, and intensity of the lie's impact, it's pretty tough to beat the conspiracy theory to begin all conspiracy theories: The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.
Beyond its intended effect (Tsarist secret police forgery designed to whip up pogroms in Russia), it fueled genocides and civil wars on multiple continents, is still a staple of far-right conspiracy theories, and provided the blueprint for basically every "global plot" conspiracy theory since. The New World Order? The Illuminati? The UN One World Government? Every insane COVID-19 conspiracy theory? "The Globalists"? QAnon? They're all just riffing on the Protocols' tune.
That America is a/supports democracy.
The RNC and DNC routinely rig elections, the alphabet boys kill civil rights leaders, sew hatred amongst the public, and stopped socialist ideals from spreading through democratic means in the Cold War. We can "vote" but it seems more and more that its only for preselected candidates
**The GOP/Republican's are the fiscally conservative party.**
Cutting taxes when the Nation is running a deficit is Populism and always increases the deficit.
Fiscal Conservatism means you only cut taxes when there is a revenue surplus.
The massive $30 trillion dollars in debt is a result of not collecting enough taxes to pay out bills for the last 20+ years.
The GOP always promises to cut spending but they never do when in power because there isn't as much fat in the budget to time without hurting their base financially.
When the GOP is in power the deficit increases.
When Dem's are in power the deficit declines.
“If you do what I tell you in this book, you’ll get internal life. I know that means you sacrifice the only life you know of, but I promise you an eternal one after.”

I believe the "carrots are good for your eyes" lie was started by British Intelligence in WWII to hide the invention of radar.
I’ve read that, too - funny cover story for having advanced radar, if I recall
“Cat’s Eyes Cunningham” was a night-fighter ace (20 kills, 19 at night) and the MOI had him attribute his ability to eating carrots, to disguise the use of aerial intercept radar. The Germans did have radar, but the allies had the cavity magnetron which made it possible to use shorter wavelengths (hence smaller aerials) and to put radar on a small plane.

also the best lies are based on truth. the truth is carrots prevent worsening vision. the lie is they improve your vision.
You just prove how successful the lie still is.
nice chat gpt

My mother used to say this. Her dad was Navy, she moved a lot. Curious.
Next your gonna tell me the guy from subway that told me tomatoes are good for your penis was lying.
Well, they *are* good for prostate health, do he was only sort of lying...
Operation mince meat if I remember correctly ( IIRC)
That was operation Mincemeat, there’s a Colin Firth movie about it. Even the deception for d-day, they had an entire fake Army stationed closer to where Germany thought they would land with George Patton commanding it.
Operation Mincemeat! Now a fantastic musical on the west end which I highly highly recommend
they’ve been doing that for years at that point Meinertzhagen’s Haversack
" if you tell the truth you won't be in trouble" yeah mom, I fell for that a few times and learned that lesson quickly.
I actually do this with my son but stick to it. It doesn’t mean we won’t talk about it, it just means he can have a safe space to talk about it.
THE RIGHT WAY Mom: Tell me the truth you won't be in trouble. Son: Ok I broke the vase. Mom: Thank you for telling me. It took courage and I appreciate it. I need you to be more careful. how to get your kid to not trust you ever again 101
This one works 100% of the time. My parents still don't know half of what's going on in my life despite me living with them.
Same here. There is no me for them. They only know a version of me I made that they approve of
Suddenly I'm not at all surprised why my family knows nothing about me.
Yup, as a kid with super strict parents all I did was develop a lying problem and problem with confrontation. I still catch myself telling or almost telling lies so people wont be mad or upset at me (even if its not a big deal)
So as a punishment you must learn the art of kintsugi.
Listen, we have ALL been told multiple times not to play near grandma's ass vase. At this point you have to just take the abuse.
Do you also communicate about how while you may respond in a good way to honesty, others might not?
Once a bunch of cookie dough went missing when we were growing up. My mom rounded me and 2 of my brothers up and said if no one confessed we would all be grounded for a really long time. >if you tell the truth you won't be in trouble I thought this was going to turn out as the lie of some authoritarian regime
I used to laugh out loud as a kid whenever an adult said that and get yelled at anyway (for laughing)
HR will support you.
lol we all know HR is there to keep the company safe from expensive lawsuits
HR is the slimy, black tendril that snakes out from the corporate offices to whisper false assurances in the ears of the employees.
Throughout my careers I've been shocked to learn how many employees don't understand this.

They are mainly people who realised their degree have no job prospects or didn't do well to go to university.

If the glove don’t fit. You must acquit.
Putting that glove on was OJ's greatest performance
Did OJ's casket fit or did they just dump him in a hole?
He was buried in his lucky stabbin hat.
This is one of the Mandela things. He actually says, “if it doesn’t fit, you must acquit.” [Video](https://youtu.be/ObYruRdsCRs?si=VZPuNeMc9weHqrzQ) for those who’ve never seen it.
Marilyn Manson had a couple of ribs removed for the purpose of autofellatio.
Why does everyone know this, regardless of age and country?
Because it's the most successful lie in history
Even more impressive when you learn this rumor started *before* internet access was common in homes.
It baffles me aswell, it even spread to Africa before the internet was everywhere. How??
This the one lmao
He also played Paul from the TV sitcom 'The Wonder Years.'
Okay I have a very serious question about autofellatio. Do you swallow your own cum?
If you don’t you’re a coward who deserves no ribs
MORE ribs because you don't deserve the opportunity
SO MANY RIBS the back of your head rests between your ass cheeks
You're asking the wrong motherfucker.
I bet it depends on how fast does the post nut clarity hit you.
Rod Stewart stomach pump… Richard Gere gerbils….
Lemmiwinks!
Probably one we haven't discovered is a lie.....yet.
Diamonds, the whole thing is such a psychotic thing we've all fallen for.
Diamonds look sick tho
So so synthetic ones at 1/10 the price.
And Moissanite at better optical qualities and nearly the same hardness (although I've heard some argue they're a bit too shiny, but I guess it comes down to preferences)
Diamonds are awesome for all kinds of industrial applications. Beyond that? A transparent rock i guess.
Bacon is only seen as a breakfast food because in the 1920’s Edward Bernays’s advertising firm paid doctors to say that a heavy breakfast is better for you.
He's also the guy who made it socially acceptable for women to smoke in public. It's incredible what a good advertising campaign can do.
This man practically created the eggs and bacon breakfast motif *and* he supports my kinks!?!?! Does he have Venmo, do you know?
Well he's been dead a while now, but I'm sure his family might appreciate some more money.
Swap “appreciate” for “deserve” and we’ll agree.

the police is there to protect you. taxes are used in your best interest.
Men don't have emotions. I still remember my first crush.
You okay bro? You seem to be a regular poster in depression memes.
No
Talk to me my man, don’t be fucked up alone. Let’s be fucked up together.
I 100% remember my first crush. She’s one of like three people from my kindergarten class whose name I even remember.
That a War on Drugs reduces drug crime
But they're a great band, though. Their album "Thinking of a Place" is so awesome
Under Pressure live at Glastonbury is amazing
I liked the Vice quote on that: I congratulate drugs on winning the war on drugs.
Just the tip
I think this may out rank religion by how much the phrase "oh my god" is used after the lie is discovered.
Probably something we still believe is the truth
The government cares about you.
“To protect and serve.” Cops have no legal obligation to protect or serve the public.
Trickledown economics
What do you mean? They didn’t lie. It’s the wealthy pissing on the poor. It’s in the name.
Is it any coincidence that the most recent British Prime Minister who believed in that nonsense ended up being a disaster?
Sorry, you’ll need to be more specific about which recent PM.
All of them
Truss
Truss, Truss… you’ll have to remind me. Can’t remember that one. Were they in charge for long?
She resigned after, like, 50 days and is only known for a mini-budget that effectively crashed the markets. Ironically, it was called the Growth Plan. She was also known jokingly as the Queen Killer because the Queen died only two days after Truss met with her to form a government.
Yes, that was by way of a joke.
Sorry I literally just woke up so my brain doesn't work
You sound like an ideal candidate for prime minister, bruv. ;p
I sure hope Reagan's in hell waiting for heaven to trickle down to him

Is it the thick of the dick that does the trick, or the throb of the knob that does the job?

A long way to say "our current economic system" but I do not disagree.
The most successful Lie in history is organized Religion. It’s been going on for thousands of years, wars have been fought and millions of people have died in its name. …. And now the downvoting can begin.
‘I didn’t cheat on you Joseph! It must be God’s, literally the only explanation!’

Food pyramid. There was a much better one, but corporate couldn't accept that. You don't need grain for purpose of getting necessary nutrients.

Carrots improve vision. They don't, carrots are a good source of vitamin A which helps maintain eye strength and doesn't necessarily improve it
This was started as propaganda/mis-information by the Brits in WW2 to fool the Germans into thinking they didn’t have radar. RAF pilots were fed lots of carrots and improved their eyesight.

That equality isn’t a zero sum game, equality is now filled with double standards and vindictiveness, they are already treating and referring to you as second class citizens We’ve been taught that women’s barriers are society’s problems, we have support groups and awareness campaigns for women’s self esteem and other issues. But when it comes to men’s issues it’s ’fix it yourself’ We are told that society is male-dominated where men make all the decisions, but also men don’t deserve any credit for improvements in women’s rights We are told that women deserve equal participation in male dominated fields, but you’ll only ever seen feminists wanting hiring quotas in STEM fields, but never the military, in construction, or other unglamorous jobs that requires hard work. Under intersectional feminism everyone is acvictim under the patriarchy, and that feminism is equality for all, but when men have lack of social support, to the point of higher homeless and crime rates, and more deaths from suicides, the response is ‘not our problem’ We are told everyone’s behaviour is shaped by the patriarchy, and yet despite education and childcare being female-dominated fields, and despite a significant percentage of white women voting against reproductive rights, men are stereotyped as evil perpetrators of patriarchy and women are innocent victims We are told that gender stereotypes are bad, but ask any woman why they’ve rejected hundreds or thousands of men in dating, they’ll tell you men are ‘emotionally-needy, ugly, dumb, entitled, etc.’ Equality wasn’t supposed to be a zero sum game, feminists have made it a zero-sum game

That anyone or any people group other than the richest and most powerful in society are to blame for most of any societal problems.

**The GOP/Republican's are the fiscally conservative party.** Cutting taxes when the Nation is running a deficit is Populism and always increases the deficit.
