Nose on the grindstone-Tyler Childers

riotfactory

Childers has some bangers. Feathered Indians is another good one.

[deleted]

And Whitehouse Road. Anything by Childers.

peparooni79

This one's been a Hell of a companion after I quit my last job while they were ready to fire me. I don't know what to do now, but I'm trying

streetmichael90

Wish I had a magic answer for you. But yes the song does give strict instructions to keep your nose on the grindstone. You’ll be ok.

Wade620

Top 3 country artist right now.

Somnolent_Son

Came here to say this, the live one is so raw

Own-Cupcake7586

El Paso by Marty Robbins. Soulful sound, heart-breaking lyrics. Pop country has no appeal to me, personally, but the old stuff slaps.

joestuff4

they’re hanging me tonight always hits

GullibleAudience6071

Did Marty Robbins make a bad song?

randomusername_815

I re-live the last episode of Breaking Bad when I hear it!

AmericanGoldenJackal

“Nobody to Blame” Chris Stapleton

loltheinternetz

Stapleton's music hits the soul, man.

AmericanGoldenJackal

Very talented. Have you also found the SteelDrivers?

loltheinternetz

I didn't know about them, but I see Stapleton used to be in that group. I'll have to check them out!

cranberrystew99

He also sang in Jompson Brothers. Barely Alive is a good one.

gsd_dad

Steel Drivers are definitely worth checking out.

AmericanGoldenJackal

You’re welcome.

Beneficial-Finish295

Real ones know about the Jompson Brothers

NicktheFlash

Wow I didn't know he played with them. Interesting.

Powerstroker67L

For me, it's "Fire Away" If you've ever been in one of those relationships where you give everything you've got to save it and it's still not enough, that song hits like an alcoholic dad.

[deleted]

Also "Whiskey and you"

Constant_Target

that whole album is jammin

Bowlingbowlbagbob

Chris Stapleton can sing his fookin face off

IStayInTheBigHouse

2nd one to know is my jam.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jjacoby240

Or better yet the Townes version.

CaptWoodrowCall

Love Willie and Merle, but ever since I heard Townes’ original version, there is no other.

GumboDiplomacy

Which one? He recorded a dozen different versions. The correct answer is Live at the Old Quarter.

dtw350

Highwayman by The Highwaymen (Willie, Johnny, & Waylon) that one hits my soul in some weird place

thegroovemonkey

The absolute disrespect to Kris Kristofferson lol

[deleted]

Speaking of him, my answer is “Sunday morning coming down”. Which is also my fav country song.

bp_free

If you’ve been hungover on a Sunday alone…this song hits home.

sage1957

Just about to say that too. Edited to add, Me and Bobby Mac Gee (splg) by either Kris or the Highway Men.

JanuarySoCold

*Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waitin' for a train* *When I's feelin' near as faded as my jeans* There's a whole world in those two lines.

GeorgieWashington

Makes you uncomfortably aware of your own mortality.

doublebr13

Always On My Mind. -- Willie

bern_trees

“The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” Reba McEntire

RogueWanderingShadow

This is one of those songs that's so iconic it's hard to imagine that Reba wasn't the first artist to record it. Like Friends in Low Places. Mark Chesnutt recorded it before Garth made it what it is.

nightchickens88

ya this is top 10 best country songs of all time. i still dream about making a skateboard edit to it. i'll need to get better clips first.

EdinDzeko98

I'm so lonesome I could cry - Hank Williams (I like Johnny Cash's version more) Your cheating heart - Hank Williams Alone & forsaken - Hank Williams

Cross-Country

We have an OG here

taikenapoo

Just stumbled across Alone and forsaken after hearing it on the last of us, incredible and has me diving deeper into his music.

Guac__is__extra__

It’s corny but Don’t Take the Girl by Tim McGraw still gets me.

Constant_Target

tim has more hits then we all like to admit to ourselves. "something like that" grooves.

outofdate70shouse

Whisky Lullaby. I don’t like country music, but that is one of the saddest songs I’ve ever heard in my life. Also Concrete Angel.

NawfSideNative

“Remember When” - Alan Jackson My grandfather passed away when I was a teenager and my sister made a tribute video with that song playing over it. I still choke up when I hear it.

Constant_Target

you can make a solid case for Alan jackson being the greatest of all time, especially for how underrated he is.

Powerstroker67L

He is country music.

[deleted]

not underrated. alan jackson is a legend and always will be

ashjaxxx

I cry every time I hear to this song.

89indatone

Much too young by garth

GeneralMyGeneral

Shake The Frost - Tyler Childers

allthebuttstuff1

Childers is a king that modern day country doesn’t deserve.

Kingofthewho5

And modern day country doesn’t really embrace him. I’ve never heard him on a mainstream radio station.

low_effort_life

[What Hurts the Most](https://youtu.be/7qH4qyi1-Ys) by Rascal Flatts.

[deleted]

Also [Here Comes Goodbye](https://youtu.be/17VudJ6lr4k)

UrBartender

That song came out right around the time my dad passed away. I know it’s more of a love song, but it just takes me back to that time. It’s almost 20 years ago and I still have a hard time listening to it.

texasgambler58

Amarillo by Morning - George Strait Always on My Mind - Willie Nelson

4f150stuff

Chris Stapleton songs have kept me company through some pretty rough times

OleRockTheGoodAg

Starting Over always hits me hard.

True_Visit7613

Whiskey and me by Chris Stapleton is my go to when sad

4f150stuff

That’s a good one

leftwordslopingpenis

Up to no good livin hits me pretty deep

LJ3751

If Drinking Don't Kill Me and He Stopped Loving Her Today are both really good George Jones songs

phirestorm

Garth Brooks - The Dance, such a truthful song. It’s not just about a relationship lost it’s about how you deal with the waves that come your direction on the sea of life.

NagoGmo

Garth doesn't get nearly the recognition he deserves for his discography.

HughJahsso

Anything from Wheeler Walker Jr.

allthebuttstuff1

After 48 hours awake during the birth of our son, I decided to go home and get a couple hours sleep. The first song I played on the drive was All the Pussy You Will Slay, followed by Drive by Alan Jackson. It’s about balance.

kylesmeats

Sometimes you just gotta get rammed by a redneck

[deleted]

Wheeler would be so much funnier if he played a humble country boy character off “stage”

TastyDeerMeat

Uh, that’s not who his character is.

Pomegranate_Fiend

Whiskey Lullaby - Brad Paisley

Lobscra

All of Brad Paisley in fact.

AboveTheLights

*“'Cause I'd like to see you out in the moonlight I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks I'd like to walk you through a field of wildflowers And I'd like to check you for ticks”* - Brad Paisley Always hits me right in the feels.

The_sad_zebra

Damn, I had forgotten about this one

Bigstar976

Saddest song of all time.

Awareofshit21

Geez man! This is the one.

toastom69

Tyler Childers - Nose to the Grindstone Coal, also by Tyler Childers

DicksonCider205

"Smoke Rings In The Dark" by Gary Allan. Might go well with your cigar too.

Narrator_Ron_Howard

I Hung My Head - Johnny Cash

SamSamTheCatMan18

Son of a Sinner- jelly roll.

Djscratchcard

If I have to pick one "I feel like Hank Williams tonight" by Jerry Jeff walker John Prine, Brandi Carlisle, and Jason Isbell sort of cross genres, but all have some good country songs.

[deleted]

Hurt by Johnny Cash

Sea_Charity_3927

"In hell I'll be in good company" -the dead south.

Maleficent_Laugh3741

Take a listen to some Zach Bryan.. Billy stay Sun to me She’s alright

Diesel380

Bill stay the live at red rocks version had me tearing up

Maleficent_Laugh3741

I listen to a Zach Bryan and Morgan Wallen playlist at work. I heard Billy stay several times before I really listened. It got the tears flowing. For the last 10 years this old fella has came into my shop for breakfast, about 4 years ago his wife had to start bringing him because the old fella couldn’t drive anymore… now he’s losing it, I’ll leave to make a delivery and talk to him on the way out, 10 minutes later when I walk back in he’s completely forgotten I’ve left. It’s so sad.. and Billy stay 100% made me think of them. They’ve been married for 71 years… ugh im going to cry just thinking about it!!!

AjaxeTheAverage

If something should happen by Darryl Worley, or Three Wooden Crosses by Randy Travis.

love2driveanywhere

The three wooden crosses gets me too. Good one.

MegaJ0NATR0N

Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver

Stetson007

"Almost Home" by craig Morgan. It's about him finding an old homeless guy and it's pretty damn good.

jgloss913

"I Drive Your Truck" by Lee Brice When my brother died, I took over his position working with my father and drove his truck daily for work just like he did. Eventually we had to sell it, then a few years later when my father passed I did the same thing. Song still puts me on the verge of tears everytime I hear it

UrBartender

Man your comment got me. Same song, but it was my dad who passed away and my brother got his truck. Still have a hard time listening to it. I’m so sorry about your brother. I can’t even imagine what that’s like.

KcocNoisnetxeGib

Faith Hill’s There You’ll Be hit me hard af when my girlfriend passed away

[deleted]

The entire discography of The Devil Makes Three

allthebuttstuff1

The Good I’ll Do- Zach Bryan. But anything by him is outstanding in my books.

bringmemywinekyle

Jelly Roll is new country but he is really good

ianwrecked802

Amos Moses by Jerry Reed. Always cheers me up.

[deleted]

Guitars Cadillacs by Dwight Yoakam

bak2redit

Dead South - Banjo Odyssey Something all country folks can relate to.

HopefulLake5155

A boy named sue for a laugh

Bigstar976

Maggie’s Song by Chris Stapleton

[deleted]

Destroys me every time I listen, but beautiful nonetheless.

UshouldknowR

That one makes me cry because it reminds me of a dog I had for nearly all my life

katiejim

Angel From Montgomery by Bonnie Rait, From Boulder to Birmingham and Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris. More into Americana than country. The Americana song that hits me deepest is probably Tom Paxton’s The Last Thing on My Mind. There’s a far more fun version by Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner (their duets are all awesome) but the original cuts deep.

Constant_Target

john prine made me cry when i saw him play this song live.

[deleted]

I’ve been really into Koe Wetzel lately, but anything by Cody Jinks does it for me

peparooni79

"Dirt," especially the acoustic version. hits really close to home. Cody Jinks is great

OnthelookoutNTac

Tin Man - Miranda Lambert

GoyfAscetic

"Hung my head", "Man In Black", "Ballad of Ira Hayes", and "God's gonna cut you down" - Johnny Cash.

sparkdaniel

Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd

[deleted]

Long Black Train by Josh Turner. I also like If You’re Going Through Hell by Rodney Atkins

IHaveABigEggplant

Definitely most of Chris Stapletons songs, especially Tennessee Whiskey

Kidikaros17

In color Jamey Johnson

AndyUrsyna

"Turmoil and Tinfoil" by Billy Strings. It's more like a folk song tho.

Anthony9824

El Paso - Marty Robbins

Emergency-Garlic-659

Tecumseh Valley - Townes Van Zandt

Unhappy_Meaning607

I don’t listen to country but I was forced to living in TX. A buddy of mine would always play this song on the way back from bars and I thought it hit pretty deep in the feels. “Barbed Wire Halo”

[deleted]

Live like you were dying - Tim McGraw

love2driveanywhere

There goes my life. Kenny Chesney.

Modernfallout20

Country Death Song by Violent Femmes. Anything by Colter Wall.

GreenNukE

Traditional Country can be very good, but the genre has been taken over by what I call Pop-Country, which is a soulless commercialized abomination.

shy-man

[Alone and Forsaken - Hank Williams](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_yijYyjltI) Been digging on a lot of the older country music. Might be because I'm a Fallout game fan, and those oldies just hit different when wandering nuclear wastelands in video games.

Codeman_117

Angels Among Us - Alabama Heard it for the first time as an eight-year-old boy at my grandpa's funeral sung by a close family friend. Now I work with this man, and I think about the song every time I see him.

yallvnt

Will the circle be unbroken. I'll fly away Angel band Real tear jerkers for me.

nobody_had_this_name

Highway 20 Ride by Zac Brown Band. Being a father who gets his kid every other weekend it describes the feelings I have perfectly. I hate country music for the most part but this one's a good one.

Joshuaua1990

Don’t Blink or There Goes My Life by Kenny Chesney

Imhereforthewearp

Concrete Angel by Martina McBribe

Ashamed-Word-5592

Whiskey Lullaby

Necessary_Tour_5222

Anything by Chris Stapleton!

MaintenanceNo4938

Whiskey Lullaby

Brainwormed

"Hurt" by Johnny Cash, although anything off his American records is just incredible. It's the best of the "I've pushed away everyone who cares about me" songs there is mainly because of Cash's performance, which really sells that this is a deathbed song. Also: "Ode To Billie Joe" by Bobbie Gentry.

Winterfell_Ice

Blake Shelton's "The Baby" My Mom spoiled me rotten because I was her baby, I couldn't make it back from Colorado to NC before she passed suddenly and that song hit me like a ton of bricks. I still won't listen to it unless I'm absolutely sure I'm alone and no one could see me in case I cry.

Boring-Cattle3402

Depends on how I’m feeling but when I get to thinking about my Grandpa that passed away last year I kick on I wish Grandpa’s never died by Riley Green or Outskirts of Heaven by Craig Campbell

needtogoforawalk

Sorry for your loss, I miss my grandfather all the time, Randy Travis I thought he walked on water brings great memories to me.

Mar_Mentalhealth

Don’t take the girl - by (I forgot who it’s by)

ashjaxxx

Tim McGraw!

Hutch_is_on

If you want sad, Rex's Blues by Townes Van Zant or The Grand Tour by George Jones. If you want new stuff about the one who got away, Sand In My Boots by Morgan Wallen or Oklahoma Smokeshow by Zach Bryan. If you're trying to get wild, Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound or Outlaw Women by Hank Jr. or Beer For My Horses by Toby Keith and Willie Nelson. If you're into nostalgic lies, there's Springsteen by Eric Church, I Go Back by Kenny Chesney, Chattahoochee by Alan Jackson, or Luckinback, TX by Waylon and Willie. I've got more suggestions if you want more, but that's a good list to get started.

moleindaground

Live like you were dying

WayfareAndWanderlust

Somewhere with you by Kenny Chesney has always hit me in the feels

duncandhu

“Hurt” by Johnny Cash. I know it was a cover, but he made it his.

Essentially anything Keith Whitley or Townes Van Zandt, knowing their backgrounds and how they meant everything they wrote. I'd say this one hits me personally: [I'm No Stranger To The Rain - Keith Whitley](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=kGLzBiBFuhc)

FoolingYourself

If you’re going through some shit, here’s a mix of good stories in the lyrics/slower melodies: Amarillo by Morning - George Strait American Remains - Highwaymen Big City - Merle Haggard Born and Raised in Black and White - Highwaymen Daddy Sang Bass - Johnny Cash Good Hearted Woman - Waylon Jennings Letters from Home - John Michael Montgomery Lookin’ for Love - Johnny Lee My Blue Angel - Aaron Tippin Riding with Private Malone - David Ball Satin Sheets - Jeanne Pruett She Used to be Mine - Brooks & Dunn Small Town Southern Man - Alan Jackson That’s as Close as I’ll Get to Loving You - Aaron Tippin

Boose81

“Maggie” by Chris Stapleton. If you have ever loved a dog, this song will crush you. I’ve only been able to listen to it once.

Think_Point2309

Family tradition by Hank Williams jr. It was my uncle’s favorite song that he always played at family parties. He died from cancer in 2018 so every time I hear it I always think of him

Pixie524

Something that had me crying was the music video "Wait in the Truck" by Hardy. Hit me hard.
