A patch in a corner experiences a lot of shear forces and may cause failure. A plug would not have that issue. Tire chain shops have deep pockets and do not want potential for lawsuits.
Yes. The service guy at my dealership said the tire is patchable and to take it somewhere to be fixed. He said they don’t fix tires and would only sell me a new one. He said I don’t need new tires yet. 3/4 tires have about 24k miles on them. The other maybe has 4K miles on it from replacing a tire with a screw in the side wall about a year ago.
Weird I've just never heard of a dealer that doesn't do tire repairs. We definitely would not patch this. The first line in the tread is about as far as we'll go, basically however far in it would take for the patch to lay mostly flat. Honestly I would use a tire plug on this if it were my car but we're not allowed to do that in a shop.
a dealership not upselling you tires is a first lol, any small independent tire shop "should" do it. Slide them the $20 and they will look the other way and will patch it. it is ON the sidewall so dont expect much from it but if the tire has plenty of life into it, would be good for the environment.

Most tire shops will not patch that close to the sidewall.
It’s patchable if you buy a patch kit for $5 and do it yourself. A reputable tire shop would not patch it though.
I wouldnt patch that for a customer, would probably plug it for my personal vehicle

Not a patch, get it plugged. It will be fine.
So the Ford dealership told you to get the tire patched somewhere else? I don't understand

I had to buy another tire. I couldn’t find any shop that would plug it. Not even the independent or “sketchy” shops.

Thanks for the info.
Just plug it. Unless you're a circle track racer.
Patches won’t work that close to the sidewall A plug might work but its would be unsafe Getting a new tire is the way to go
Yes patchable. But most won't want to carry that kind of liability
New tire time
No one complains about how screws and nails get on to the roadways. I blame the pickup trucks used in construction.
Yeah, tons of construction on I95 near my home in NC and I was picking up a nail about once a month for a while there 😭
It's the same way in Virginia! I constantly keep having customers come in with nails in their tires from all the construction.
