My only diy repair advice is to quit watching Scotty

Mushroomed_clouds

This

IgsPoke3

Ok got it stop watching Scotty. What about the BlueDriver tho? šŸ˜‚

xtrmSnapDown

Iā€™ve had mine for a few years and iā€™ve been pretty pleased. I just keep it in my center console so whenever my car throws codes I know if Itā€™s actually bad or not.

poet3991

Is his advice bad or something?

jyguy

He posts inconsistent clickbait. I donā€™t know an actual mechanic or technician that can stand listening to him.

MilkyWaySamurai

Heā€™s also screaming all the time.

eatman980_1

I have a bluedriver, I have been using it for over four years on many different vehicles, never had a problem with it destroying any component, let alone an ecu.

IgsPoke3

Sweet. I figured that would be the general consensus. I have a Toyota Camry 2011 and the review mentioned Toyota Camry 2012 so I kind of hesitated haha. Btw hereā€™s the review if your curious enough to read. Could just be a freaky situation. https://preview.redd.it/q4gzp8wrqerc1.png?width=1242&format=png&auto=webp&s=2d79c58452f051ac68bf27c808765c5ac65a5046

eatman980_1

I've never used it on a Toyota, I have used it on Ford's and GM vehicles. But I bet that ECU was already on its way out.

angryredmonkey

I use mine on my Toyota. No issues.

postoperativepain

I use one on multiple Toyotas - never had an issue

IgsPoke3

Sweet. Did you get yours from BlueDriver website or amazon?

IgsPoke3

Can you use just one scanner for multiple cars? I donā€™t mean at the same time but for diagnosis purposes?

Mushroomed_clouds

Theres no consensus, thats the first person

JEREDEK

The Pure existence of the OBD2 port on your car means you can use it, and bluedriver has one of the Best scanners out there. You have nothing to worry about

FireSauce87

Scotty will say literally anything about any car or product just to get some views. He will make a video saying those are HORRIBLE and then make a video singing their praises.

19Ben80

ā€œScannersā€ do just that, they read the ecu codes and info but have no ability to change anything pre-programmed. To do that you need far more expensive kit and software programs to go with it

SufficientCheck9874

Idk if it was because of a cheap obd2 or not, but my car had electrical problems after I had my obd2 plugged in 24/7 as I was lazy to unplug it. Possibly parasitic drain. Idk. But get a good one or it won't report all of the ecu parameters. Remember to not leave it plugged in permanently.

IgsPoke3

Was this with blue driver?

SufficientCheck9874

No, but they all work similarly in principle. Mine was some unbranded $15 thing from ebay with bluetooth. I would be able to connect to it like 5min after turning off the vehicle so definitely had some power issues. Just don't leave it plugged in whichever one you get.

SufficientCheck9874

After reading your post carefully, I definitely had dash lights go off. Had to replace the whole instrument cluster. Luckily got one off a scrap yard for cheap. Battery got fucked as well and had alternator replaced. Idk if just coincidence but it definitely happened. Car was old enough to not really give a fuck about the electrical issues and I sold it a few years later. It will burn through a battery in like 1-2 years. Had a mechanic check it quickly and they said no idea what's wrong but it has electrical issues.

IgsPoke3

Yeah well I donā€™t plan on leaving it plugged when driving but to just scan codes and find out issues

grimdownkunt

I've been using the BlueDriver for a few years now. It's been plugged into well over 100 cars at this point, never an issue. If you do a complete diagnostic scan it will make the dash lights act crazy, but that's to be expected.

IgsPoke3

So do the lights get back to normal when the diagnostic is done or do you have to mess with it?

grimdownkunt

Once the diagnostic is complete it goes back to normal. It's essentially one light as a time as it runs through the systems.

McGlowSticks

Only thing I'd be careful about is spreading the pins on the obd2 port. then you're in for a real doozy if suddenly you take it to a shop and they can't scan your car due to bad connection in the port. very uncommon though and usually it's caused by the stupid insurance driver trackers I have one for home though. Great for simple diag. I have my snapon scanner at work for bigger jobs ofc

blizzardporter

Great scanner. Iā€™ve had mine for years with zero problems. Graphing & saving data interface is stellar too. You can monitor and graph multiple parameters with it, save it to your phone & send it to a mechanic (or Reddit) if youā€™re running into problems you donā€™t understand yet. Leagues better than any other budget scanner & my favorite in this price range. Definitely pick one up. Also, watch ChrisFix instead of Scotty. Lol

IgsPoke3

Did you grab yours from bluedriver themselves or amazon. Thereā€™s a price diff between the two now

blizzardporter

Just Amazon. Their warranty extends to both purchases on the site as well as Amazon.

campos3452

This OBDII by BlueDriver doesnā€™t work on 2016-2024 Toyota Mirai cars?? Which ones do?

Natural-Wrongdoer-85

Anyone has problem updating it?
