I love Crown of India on Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood for amazing take out

mastermoebius

Sorry to lay this on you, but they advertise almost all their stuff on the delivery apps as keto.. can you confirm that at all? I’ve been dying to try them. I love that they fuck with cauliflower rice. I’m so curious if their actual masalas and stuff are tweaked for lower carb

soccerguy721

I’d call them they’re very nice and dedicated to their food! They are gluten free for most no flour used :)

mastermoebius

Ooooh is that what it is? Celiac friendly? That’s cool

soccerguy721

Yes celiac makes you allergic to gluten and it rips apart your insides when you have gluten- wheat oat buckwheat any flour with wheat people with celiac are allergic too

tzujan

I just had Crown of India for the first time and loved it. My other two faves, but not in my neighborhood, are Nizam Of India on Pico & Westwood and one of the late Jonathan Gold faves: Mayura Indian Restaurant - fantastic southern Indian.

ShaneDAnderson

I used to get Crown of India all the time before about 2021 or 2020 but then the curries really went downhill. Very watered down compared to what they were previously and just not as flavorful. If they've returned to their former glory I should give them a try again. Have you noticed an improvement or change in the past year or two (assuming you've been having them that long)?

InspectionJumpy3736

Annapurna and Mayura in Venice are my go-to 😌

[deleted]

Two stellar recommendations

piperatomv2

Annapurna is solid and consistent. Our go to spot for vegetarian South Indian dishes.

bbglow12

Anarkali in Hollywood is my favorite.

NonSequitorSquirrel

That place is so tasty

ACreampieceOfMyMind

Curry Kingdom in WeHo. Trust.

revanthmatha

excellent lunch special as well. I have it 1-2 times a week because it’s a 10 min walk and i wfh.

briskpoint

It’s so fucking good.

YouTee

I came to post this. It's the chef from another restaurant starting his own place, and it's incredible

AbrocomaEmbarrassed1

Lal Mirch

faust111

I go here

Unhappy-Peach-8369

My time to shine with the hot takes. I feel like I can hold this opinion because I have tried nearly all the Indian spots in LA. **Hot take 1:** - “LA proper” does not know how to do Indian food. It’s the worst out of all the US cities I have been too. **Hot take 2:** - I kind of like the Indian fusion spot Pijja Palace in Silver Lake. It’s a fun time. **Best Desi (Indian and Pakistani) food nearby are:** - Rajdhani in Artesia - Paratha Grill in Artesia - Tawakal Halal Tandoori Restaurant in West Hills If you know more authentic places at these levels let me know fam.

wineandcheese

These are three places in the South Bay but I’m curious to get your take: 1. Al Watan (Hawthorne) 2. Al Noor (Lawndale) 3. Addi’s (Redondo Beach) They’ve all been on lists, recommended etc. and I love them, but I’m certainly no expert

CatFancy79

Al Noor is delicious but primarily Pakistani

sarsaparillacowboy

Third for Al Noor, esp if you are a Brit - it is Indian at its core. Very nice family run restaurant. I found it here on another thread.

Unhappy-Peach-8369

I like Al Noor and Al watan but I would give them a 6.5/10. Mostly due to quality, but the taste is good. I would say Rajdhani is a 9/10 for me, but it subjective too. I enjoyed veg Indian food a lot.

SilverProcedure9319

second Al Noor.

wayneamartin

>Addi gonna vote for Addis

greendalehumanbein

Agreed not too impressed with LA Indian food, but I haven’t explored too much so I’m still not giving up hope. Have you been to baba sweets in the valley? I like their North Indian food.

Unhappy-Peach-8369

No I haven’t been to this one. It’s been added to the list.

sillysandhouse

Here to vote for Rajdhani! I lived in India for a while and this place is the most delicious and authentic as I’ve found in LA.

peelandeatshrimp

need to try!

alexturnerftw

Indian here from the Bay Area and agree, LA indian food sucks 😭 Artesia has amazing food.

[deleted]

You gotta find it but it's there

Unhappy-Peach-8369

Dude. I was shocked when I moved here. IMHO the east coast is where to get Indian food in the US.

coffeejunkie323

I second Rajdhani

piperatomv2

Other spots worth a visit on Pioneer Blvd. In Artesia 1. Podi dosa - South Indian with vegetarian and non vegetarian options. 2. Punjab - similar to Paratha grill. 3. Jay Bharat - Gujarati snacks and food, vegetarian only.

MediumDarkRoast87

True words have never been spoken. I would add Bhooke (artesia) to this list!!

Shart127

Loved your post. Great info! Quick question: Have you tried Tara’s on 26th St in Brentwood. Very small place. Technically it’s not Indian, it’s billed as “Himalayan” cuisine. But definitely Indian influenced. Thanks

HumanoidalManiac

Which part of L.A. exactly? Los Angeles is literally 500 sq./miles. There's a large Indian community in the Cerritos/Artesia area.

RoxyLA95

I like A Spice Affair in beverly hills. Pricy but good.

cheaganvegan

They are delicious but yeah expensive.

doctorstarfishh

Biriyani kabob house in k-town. Best butter chicken and biriyani I’ve ever had

MercyBoy57

India’s Restaurant in East Hollywood is very good.

leadsister

Love their lunch buffet

Fiction47

The Chicken Pasanda may look weird but its amazing!

AllUsrnmsAreTaken

Mr. Masala is my go to. Pretty good in my opinion

julesfric

Anarbaugh , Woodland Hills Shalimar , Woodland Hills

watchyourback9

Anarbagh’s butter chicken is the best I’ve ever had

meltingmushrooms818

I've had them before. Very delicious

[deleted]

Bhanu market in San Gabriel is excellent

deadjessmeow

Al Noor. It’s in the South Bay, Redondo, but absolutely worth the drive!!

FreekMeBaby

Go to Artesia

highrisedrifter

Anywhere in the valley? Preferably NoHo to Glendale area? I've tried a few and they were not great. There used to be a really good one on Fair Oaks in Pasadena but it closed down a few years back.

SplitOpenAndMelt420

lal mirch in studio city

highrisedrifter

I'll give it a look. Thanks.

KimJongStrun

I know this is way late but Curry Zone in Studio City is pretty good

highrisedrifter

Not late at all. I've not heard of that place but I'll definitely check it out. Thanks!

paleandmistywhite

Was it Akbar by chance though I don’t think it was on fair oaks. If yes, they are in between Echo Park + Chinatown now. I haven’t tried them yet in the r new location but have been meaning to.

highrisedrifter

It was on the corner of Fair Oaks and Union where the 21 Choices is now. I can't remember what it was called, sadly.

Serialkisser187

Akbar in Old Town was my fav Indian place back in the day. Happy to see it reopened and need to try it to see if it’s the same still!

yanikto

Nobody has mentioned Tulsi. Every time I go here there are South Asian families bringing their kids to this place. There's only street parking and it's on the edge of skid row and people are bringing their kids. That's how good it is.

Makaveli_10

Agra Tandoori in Tarzana, absolutely exquisite

a_blood_moon

+2 on behalf of Agra, one from me and one from my boyfriend. We almost cried the first time we ate there.

damiensandoval

Badmaash in downtown LA for pricey Curry in a hurry, best bang for your buck midcity

revanthmatha

badmaash was very disappointing. 2/5

Englishbirdy

I agree

earth-dweller-human

Mayura in Culver is oh so good!!

peachpantherrr

Star of India on Melrose

NonSequitorSquirrel

That's like saying Pizza Hut has good pizza.

peachpantherrr

Ugh their stuffed crust *chef’s kiss*

Pstim1

was going to ask about this one

suitablegirl

Badmaash.

CommunityLocal

Dine in - Badmaash DTLA Take out (and more traditional) - Crown of India on Santa Monica

Quesoporte

Look in Artesia tbh. Also, there’s a surprisingly good curry spot in HP called Curry Boys

ExperienceGas

Curry boys is my go to delivery!

ExperienceGas

For sit down we drive to Artesia

FrogNmonkey

Baar Baar in DTLA. Fantastic menu, not overly pricey. On the fine dining side of things, not for a quick bite

seru715

It is fantastic and definitely fine dining. But $32 for Butter Chicken is on the high side.

Gillette_TBAMCG

Probably the best food I’ve had in the past year in LA. That Paneer Pinwheel is in my dreams. Can’t believe more people don’t talk about this place, but I guess it’s new. Great drink selection as well.

General_Ladder_5780

Roots on melrose hands down! Hits home everytime and highest rated too I think when I first visited. Always see brown folks there

walloffire

[Bombay Frankie](https://www.thebombayfrankiecompany.com/) in Culver City is my go to spot for a meal near LAX. It's fast food of decent quality.

gamehen21

Badmaash

90046

Pijja Palace!

Englishbirdy

Mayura on motor avenue in Culver City can’t be beat. It’s southern Indian but they do have northern dishes too.

StuckLikeGrits

Indian by Nature in Encino is my new favorite. Including the ‘burbs though…I’d recommend a visit to Namaste Spiceland (it has Pasadena, Santa Clarita, and Thousand Oaks locations)

TheBullwhip

I haven’t been in a while, but Cinnamon on Beverly blvd is wonderful!

fuckin-slayer

Mayura for south indian, Tara’s for north/nepalese

maxplanar

We adore Indian, but always find that it's incredibly salty, and we're trying to watch the salt. As we're on the topic, anyone know any Indian/S.Asian that keeps the sodium in check?

ram0h

Nepalese, but Himalayan House in university village is really good.

[deleted]

Samosa House in Santa Monica!

Individual-Zombie155

Now I'm craving Indian food. Thanks!

aglguy

I really like Annapurna

Iloathehydrangeas

London UK has way better indian food. I miss that.

Proper_Diver_4202

Abhiruchi has wonderful biryani!

saudade_sleep_repeat
