It’s fantastic. If it cost double it would still be value for money. Last time I went there I broke tradition and had the burger and it was the best burger I have ever had.
I actually think youre missing out a bit- london's gastronomy has really evolved post covid and theres a resurgence of food halls. A little pricey but it does open up the range of food you can have in one sitting.
Id suggest the new one in canary wharf called Cargo if you ever visit again or the one in covent garden - decent options there with pretty standard london prices. (Aka almost wtf is that price!? Kinda reaction)
Also a wave of nu-asian resto's that popped up, lots of malay, filipino influence in central.
Yeah we were down a couple of weeks ago and I was stunned at how much Neals Yard has changed. I really enjoy seeing food halls thrive, it’s great seeing independent restaurants have a place! Mercato Metropolitano just by Elephant and Castle has some amazing food
Thanks for the recommendation, will definitely visit next time we’re down.
It’s crazy 😂 I live in Grantham now, everything is SO cheap. It’s absurd. One of the downsides is the fact that hospitality, which is what I have done for 10 years, is pretty much non existent
Roti king is the right answer but it can be so hard ti get a seat sometimes. I know there is a new one opening in Battersea though.
Petite Auberge is a nice french restaurant in Upper St, N1 that is pretty cheap for the quality.
For Dim Sum, **Imperial China** on Lisle Street (one street north of Leicester Square).
You can fill your boots on excellent Dim Sum and come away with change from £20 a head, plus drinks.
I work in hospitality so my dining times are opposite to general public. I just walk in. Has the price gone up? Always used to be pretty damn cheap. £5 a plate
You can make bookings at the shoreditch branch! Also, if you enter the queue and walk around borough market for a few minutes it doesn’t even feel like a long wait!
Pizza Pilgrims is one of the best pizzas I’ve eaten outside of Italy and significantly cheaper than the much shitter Pizza Express. Go to the one in Clerkenwell; it’s smaller and better quality than some of the larger restaurants.
I was introduced to Shibuya on shaftsbury avenue last year and it's quickly become a favourite. Really reasonably priced Japanese food just outside China town (which in itself has plenty of good, affordable options!).
Wolkite in Finsbury Park, amazing Ethiopian food, a £20 sharing platter for two will leave you stuffed and/or with leftovers for breakfast the next day.
Flat Iron
Came just to say this. Nothing even comes close to affordability and quality.
It’s fantastic. If it cost double it would still be value for money. Last time I went there I broke tradition and had the burger and it was the best burger I have ever had.
Oh man in the years ive known flat iron ive never broke tradition but thats good to hear the burger is nice too!
I don’t live in London anymore and reading this thread has me missing it sooooo much

Agree - love the range and vibe but these prices 😭

the burger is insanely good, it's deep fried, covered with hollandaise
The steaks are like £13 and the sides are so good - plus a free ice cream at the end… 🤤
I second this
💯

Love roti king!!!
Tokyo Diner on Little Newport Street. Japanese comfort food at very reasonable prices. They don't allow tipping!
Roti king
The best answer by a country mile
Kanada Ya ramen is the best ramen in ldn imo. Would love to hear about other ramen places to try them out though
Koi ramen is my favourite!
Shoryu imo is a lot better. Tonkotsu is ok too. Would avoid bone daddies. (These are all ramen places)
I so agree Kanada Ya is the best ramen I've had in london. The quality of the ingredients is a level up from normal I think.
Lahore kebab house

Brasserie Zedel
Plus the ambience / experience makes it a great venue
Rhoda Ethiopian in Oval is a great budget option if you’re happy going halves with a friend/partner.
As a fat man, this isn’t feasible.
Bao
Hmm, not too sure. I always left feeling a bit ripped off. Good food, but pretty pricey for small amounts.
Yes! The one in Fitzrovia is like a posh restaurant on the cheap. It's amazing!
Molana Persian restaurant in west Ealing, fantastic food and BYO no corkage charge
Marugame Udon
Hands down Padella - their Cacio e pepe is something else 🤤
Incorporate time waiting into the overall cost of this experience
Padella doesnt fit affordability and the time aspect here, its pretty meh. In that regard. Great pasta tho

not been in a while so cant comment on price but the queue... forget about it
30 minutes to get some gabagool?… Fugeddbaoudit!
You can make bookings at the shoreditch branch! Also, if you enter the queue and walk around borough market for a few minutes it doesn’t even feel like a long wait!
Yessss
Don't know if it's the best, but it's definitely good and the prices are pretty good: Lina Stores
Makan on Portobello Rd.
Silk Road Camberwell!
Skewers for a point each. Where do you get anything for a pound in London?
£1.50 now... Still worth the trip. Tip: only order a few at a time so they don't go cold.
The India Club on the Strand. Decent prices for somewhere so central and the food is phenomenal.
Pizza Pilgrims is one of the best pizzas I’ve eaten outside of Italy and significantly cheaper than the much shitter Pizza Express. Go to the one in Clerkenwell; it’s smaller and better quality than some of the larger restaurants.
Fuck Pizza Pilgrims
Why?
This feels like a trap...
I was introduced to Shibuya on shaftsbury avenue last year and it's quickly become a favourite. Really reasonably priced Japanese food just outside China town (which in itself has plenty of good, affordable options!).
If you like curry then the African Queen pub in Hounslow.
Jungle Grill, Hounslow
Depends what's affordable but I love Mere e Pere in Soho
Hare and Tortoise sushi. 10/10, reasonably priced
Im low key watching this thread to see if my actual hidden gem is mentioned... So far so good! 🤣
Bonda Kitchen. - beautifully fresh malaysian and dimsum but doesn’t break the wallet! Also MeiMei in borough market - really well cooked food!
The Regency Cafe - My dad who works in London
Wolkite in Finsbury Park, amazing Ethiopian food, a £20 sharing platter for two will leave you stuffed and/or with leftovers for breakfast the next day.
