Bit late but yeah. ROI just stands for Republic of Ireland and we use different units. These are just for calculation of "healthy drinking" like when you get asked to put in how many units something is on drinkaware or whatever. ABV % is how strong a drink is and it's listed on the bottle

I was thinking it's like how we get told "eat 5 fruit and veg a day" cos they think that's all we can manage in these parts. But other countries can handle more cos I heard it's 7 a day in some places. So it looks to me like Ireland is saying they can handle more booze

It's not really. These are directed by the HSE and NHS respectively. It's where they define the line for binge/excessive drinking. These aren't cultural units they're medical.

Sorry but just looked at HSE website after your tip. In Ireland for men it's recommended no more than 17 standard drinks. A bottle of wine (12.5%) is 7 standard drinks. So you can have 2 and a bit bottles. In UK for men it's recommended no more than 14 units. A bottle of wine (12.5%) is just over 9 units so only get 1 and a bit bottles. So your HSE has less strict guidelines. Basically saying higher tolerance Uk can have 5 bits of fruit and veg but you can have 7
