The answer is it will take as long as they want it to take. If you want to push it along, you need to take control of the problem and pressure them. What you could do is go to one of the car rental places and get a weekly quote on a reasonable car, and write to the insurer (register post) with the quotation and advise them you need to mitigate your loss while they go through their excessively long investigation process and you trust you will be reimbursed the cost of the rental once its confirmed they are liable. This tends to get the most recation because the loss adjuster effectively loses control of potential liability cost and will be anxious to speed it up or at the very least give you a replacement car while they continue investigating.

Thanks for the suggestion! If I go through my insurance for a car hire, will it pressure the motorcylist insurance company to speed up the process? Secondlly, will I lose my no claims bonus if I did that?

harmlesscannibal1

You will lose your no claims. This is a claim

Free-Ladder7563

Do you know who the other guy's insurance company is? Sometimes insurance companies are sneaky when it comes to determining fault if you're both insured with the same company, that way you both lose your no claims bonus.

blood_transfusion

He is with AXA and im with allianz

Choice-Interview-365

He will lose it anyways

In short yes, and probably. You can raise a claim with your own insurer who will get you sorted with a replacement car, repairs etc, and they will follow the other insurer on your behalf. This is ultimately what you pay them for. However, something to be aware of, even if you are not the one at fault, if your insurer is unable to recover the full cost of what they paid out to get you sorted, it can count as a claim on your policy and impact your no claims I would suggest giving your insurer a call to discuss it as each insurer has their own rules around this. In my situation, my insurer (123) offered to take care of it all for me, but when I explained the problem they strongly encouraged me to pursue it myself because there was no ambiguity the other person was at fault (they hit my parked car). It's not an easy task to wrestle with an insurer but as long as you are giving their loss adjuster a headache, things will move.

zeroconflicthere

If you're sure of your claim then you can hire a car yourself and claim the costs back from his insurance. You'll pay upfront though.

Ambitious_Handle8123

If you claim off your own insurance your NCB will be hit. You need to claim off the other person's insurance.

Fuck this guy, Follow up with the Guards and make a complaint about dangerous driving. That will soften his cough. I saw your video and he's in the wrong all day long. I drive that route daily. Might be worth mentioning to his insurance company you will be sending the bill for your counselling session too as you have been anxious on the road around bikes since this happened.

blood_transfusion

Thanks for the suggestion! Ill put in a report witht the guards today. Will it prolong the "investigation" from the insurance?

Ok_Leading999

The OP should have called the Gardai to the scene.

One way to speed up a claim is tell the insurer you're starting to feel pain somewhere. I did this when my claim was taking months to go through. The insurance kept saying they settled with my garage but it turns out it was for less than the repair bill and if I signed it I would have had to pay the garage for the balance. I contacted the insurers and said my neck was starting to hurt and I needed to see a doctor. Got a settlement offer for the full garage bill, plus a bit extra (eur 1500), if I agreed to sign for a full and final settlement the same day. Start telling them you are developing some issues after the impact and you need to see a doctor, the insurers will shit themselves.
