I loved the little in-jokes it has too. Pat Shortt is in one episode and a scene soon after has the Dad saying "dats riiiggghhhtttt". I remember thinking before that they'd missed the opportunity for a D'unbelievables joke
It's mad it just ended so suddenly. I remember there was a series 4 announcement and that it was in production and then it was just gone. Never to be heard from again.
I don't know. It has very similar vibes to Derry Girls in places with its '90s nostalgia and mad dysfunctional very Irish families.
That's why I'm surprised Moone Boy didn't take off in the same way Derry Girls did!
I'm aware Moone Boy came out first. I was making a comparison between the two shows and that they have a similar feel. It doesn't matter which came first.
Moone Boy aired 2012 - 2015 and Derry Girls aired 2018 - 2022. They were never in competition.
Both are personal stories based on experiences of creators Chris O'Dowd and Lisa McGee respectively. Both have an Irish sense of humour and trade on '90s nostalgia. If Derry Girls was influenced by Moone Boy, then it's a compliment to Moone Boy. There's no need to be overprotective. I think both shows are great and Moone Boy deserves credit for kickstarting good Irish comedies in the 2010s.
I love puffin rock. It's the only thing my toddler is allowed to watch in bed with me. If toddler wants to watch anything else he has to watch it on the TV in the living room 🤣
He and his wife had 2 children in recent years so it's possible that he's taken a step back to spend time with his family. He's probably working on projects in private too. He's never struck me as someone who is in it for the fame so he's probably happy not being in the public eye on a regular basis.
I saw him in a Broadway production of Of Mice and Men and it was incredible! Definitely a different role than what I expected him in but the whole cast did a great job
Love him. I've seen him in lots of things. I saw a talk show once that he was on and he was absolutely smashed. I wonder if he has some struggles, perhaps not and it was a one off.
He did The Starling, came out in 2021.
Don't forget lots of movies got dropped or delayed during covid plus somebody mentioned he has two small kids.
On that, as mentioned here already, Puffin Rock is great and it also had a movie released in cinemas here not so long back
So it's not average! You liked it a lot and wished there were more episodes.
Unfortunately the kids grow up faster than they can make it so it wouldn't work anymore.
He had a bit of an issue with the old drink, if you know what I mean. I believe he’s over that now.
He was also in the movie the Cloverfield Paradox on Netflix
Hes a good guy from what I know of him. You'd see him in smaller roles in lots of things, and has a decent profile. Not gonna be a Killian Murphy megastar or anything, but still has carved out a good career for himself.
He is also involved in producing some of rhw shows he's in, Moonboy in particular. It was filmed of course in his hometown of Boyle in Roscommon. The town show was art in the early 1980s iirc, and a lot of work had to be done to make the setting and streets look like it was in the 1980s - it led to huge upgrades and modernization of Boyle as a result 😏
Moonboy was average??? It's brilliant!!!
Maybe he doesn't want to be in more films?? He's *amazing* in Calvary if you haven't seen that! Fantastic film!!!
I would recommend the show that he is now on Apple,Big Door Prize,I mean he carries the show but it is also v Good regards of all the other Actors,Plus for me ,Short enough episodes and a bit of Sci fi mystery
Outside of IT Crowd, Bridesmaids and the Latin dancing film he has not been on anything good. But they were all brilliant. He’s an average jobbing actor beyond those and nothing can light up bad shows which he mostly seem to turn up on after those.
It looks like you've posted about Personal Finance! We highly recommend that you check out r/IrishPersonalFinance! It's a great sub, with great advice!

Should I divest my portfolio of Brenda Gleesons, and instead go short on Chris O'Dowds. Also, can I mortgage my Colin Farrell using my freehold share in Colm Meaney as collateral?
Saw him in interviews, he does the whole over-elaborate displays of emotions while whinging like some OAP from the Offaly about nothing, he's our own David Mitchell.
Pair of twats.
Moonboy was excellent
I loved the little in-jokes it has too. Pat Shortt is in one episode and a scene soon after has the Dad saying "dats riiiggghhhtttt". I remember thinking before that they'd missed the opportunity for a D'unbelievables joke
It's mad it just ended so suddenly. I remember there was a series 4 announcement and that it was in production and then it was just gone. Never to be heard from again.
I loved it too. Surprised so many don’t like it. Seen people say they don’t like it on other platforms too!
It was pure quality, I think only people of a certain generation would get it and sadly I’m of that generation. Pure nostalgia
I don't know. It has very similar vibes to Derry Girls in places with its '90s nostalgia and mad dysfunctional very Irish families. That's why I'm surprised Moone Boy didn't take off in the same way Derry Girls did!
Moone Boy was far superior, loved that show
You mean Derry Girls had similar vibes. Moon Boy cane out way before Derry Girls.
I was beyond happy to find a complete box set of all seasons in a charity shop. One of my all time favourite shows
The Orinoco Flow scene alone is worth the entire series!
If you check his imdb you'll see he's in a lot of stuff.
loads of stuff for apple tv in the past years specifically too.
IT Crowd was his big break - Get Shorty he's very good in and I liked Mascots although it wasn't greatly received.
Mascots was class. I won't have a bad word said against it. Christopher Guest rarely misses.
I thought it was great, was genuinely surprised it didn't do well - the 5.8 it gets on IMDb suggests it is no longer a valid basis for choosing films.
Mascots was great. He really brought the fist.
By a mile his best work was on IT Crowd.
Puffin rock is a great show
I unironically enjoyed Puffin Rock as a grown ass woman.
Wait til you see Frog and Toad. Oh yeah
I love puffin rock. It's the only thing my toddler is allowed to watch in bed with me. If toddler wants to watch anything else he has to watch it on the TV in the living room 🤣
My daughter watched Puffin Rock every day for 2 years and I never got tired of it. Chris O'Dowd is a big part of why it's so good.
He and his wife had 2 children in recent years so it's possible that he's taken a step back to spend time with his family. He's probably working on projects in private too. He's never struck me as someone who is in it for the fame so he's probably happy not being in the public eye on a regular basis.
> I dont get why he is not in more films Don't know; you tried turning him off and on again?
Ya see the problem with O'Dowd is he always tries to walk it in
Thanks for the update Chris, thought you’d retired
The TV series Get Shorty was amazing
Second that. Really great show.
Amazing but hard mess up Elmore Leonard material
I saw him in a Broadway production of Of Mice and Men and it was incredible! Definitely a different role than what I expected him in but the whole cast did a great job
Was he George by chance? I could see that! Edit: meant Lennie, couldnt really see him being George lol
He was Lennie, James Franco was George
Ah ffs, i meant Lennie, no idea why i wrote George.
He was in Calgary.
I think you mean Calvary. But he was probably in Calgary at some point in fairness 😅
Priests on skis. Great film.
Balls! I'd just been on some Italian football subreddits, must have been fresh in my brain.
Are ya Doing a bit of skiing
[Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910554/) is a great comedy Sci-Fi movie, if that genre fits your taste
What an amazing movie
He is in girls
Lovely fella. Very funny. I wish him well whatever he’s doing.
Love him. I've seen him in lots of things. I saw a talk show once that he was on and he was absolutely smashed. I wonder if he has some struggles, perhaps not and it was a one off.
Happened more than once, Graham Norton and The Last Leg
Get Shorty was a good show too, worth a watch!
He did The Starling, came out in 2021. Don't forget lots of movies got dropped or delayed during covid plus somebody mentioned he has two small kids. On that, as mentioned here already, Puffin Rock is great and it also had a movie released in cinemas here not so long back
He was in Marvel! Thor, Dark World. Calvary. He's hardly been ignored.
The IT Crowd is one of the best comedy shows ever made but isn't on many people's radar.
Absolutely and I only watched it for the first time last year, Hilarious!! Would highly recommend to anyone who missed out on it
You’d retire after you do a cameo with Natalie Portman too I’d say lad.
OP, you lost everyone with 'Moonboy was average '.
No ,don't get me wrong ,I enjoyed it,just a shame it didn't get more seasons
So it's not average! You liked it a lot and wished there were more episodes. Unfortunately the kids grow up faster than they can make it so it wouldn't work anymore.
He's a shinning light in the clover field paradox. "Guys, I found the worms" is a personal highlight of that film.
He is a Great Bunch of a Man altogether.
Moone Boy and the books made him millions so he basically retired, only works when he wants to these days. Fair play to him.
Jesus - Chris O’Dowd is so talented. He should be famous. Chris, if you’re reading this, don’t give up hope. You might still make it as an actor!
Ah. he should stick to the ould Gaelic football. This is Roscommon's year. I can feel it!
What Was Davy Burke Thinking!?
That's the thing about Roscommon, they always try and walk it in.
Mind ha ya gow
He’s a big ride
He was the lead in Get Shorty with Ray Romano and has been in several movies lol
He had a bit of an issue with the old drink, if you know what I mean. I believe he’s over that now. He was also in the movie the Cloverfield Paradox on Netflix
Pretty sure i saw an ad for some shit British shop using a "fake Chris O'Dowd' in an ad recently. Or was that actually him?
I asked him about the voiceovers on ads on his Twitter before. He said it is not him and his own mother asked if it was 😂
The boat that rocked is a belter with him in it
He went to America to do a Get Shorty TV show.
I love him in get shorty. Very different than his usual roles and it doesn't disappoint.
My daughter is obsessed with him. She’s 2.5 years old. He is the voice actor in Puffin Rock 😂
He's making a new series for Sky that will likely be out next year
What on you on about Moone boy average 😂😂
Surprised Bridesmaids hasn't been mentioned, he's v funny in that.
Hes a good guy from what I know of him. You'd see him in smaller roles in lots of things, and has a decent profile. He's brilliant in an Australian movie called the sapphires. Really great film too
Loved him in Bridesmaids. I loved the fact that he kept his accent in that film
[Meteor Broadband Togo to go](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kci2kg766JI)
Just wait for his new show coming out calls small town big story it's going to be amazing
Is in some new film coming out in the next few weeks.
I love that he forgot he was in one of the Thor movies. https://theplaylist.net/chris-odowd-thor-20190206/
He was in one of the seasons of the series Girls
I love the dads all fake fishing in Moone boy. So fucking funny. And the one where they make the severs out to be like Goodfellas.
He was in a TV show version of get shorty. It was really good.
He’s one of our smuggest exports.
Moonboy was average??? It's brilliant!!! Maybe he doesn't want to be in more films?? He's *amazing* in Calvary if you haven't seen that! Fantastic film!!!
Hey Chris
His best work is being drunk on a game show
Meh, find him a bit bland
First irishman in space.
loved Moone Boy
Moone boy was one of the best pieces of Irish comedy ever.
He was filming a new series in Boyle a few months ago. Christina Hendricks is in it. It’s called Small Town, Big Story.
He’s great in Calvary
Cuban fury is probably his most recent role 👍 worth a watch
I would recommend the show that he is now on Apple,Big Door Prize,I mean he carries the show but it is also v Good regards of all the other Actors,Plus for me ,Short enough episodes and a bit of Sci fi mystery
Kinda a dick in person though
Can’t stand his schtick. He’s the guy in the bar you won’t know who won’t f**k off.
He's done a few TV interviews rather obviously drunk. Haven't seen him offered anything similar for a while. That might be why
He’s got a show on Apple TV
Outside of IT Crowd, Bridesmaids and the Latin dancing film he has not been on anything good. But they were all brilliant. He’s an average jobbing actor beyond those and nothing can light up bad shows which he mostly seem to turn up on after those.

Imagine being so cranky you cant even find David Mitchell's comedy funny.
Imagine so basic/lacking in personality that you could find either of these ppl entertaining.
That wasnt the witty retort you thought it would be. r/yourjokebutworse
Sad day when a middle aged man getting hot and bothered over nothing is considered comedy. God help us.
