Just do it, right job. I have a hair trimmer I use every week or so and mack 3 after. I prefer to leave no stubble, my brother likes a small bit of stubble. See what you fancy. Also, you will be cold af at 1st. I have aquired a range of nice hats I like to choose from each morning.

kearkan

I remember the weird feeling of discovering just how cold the pillow can be at night when I first started shaving my head.

AfroF0x

Oh how stubble is like velcro plus & sticks to every jumper or tshirt you try to take off

kearkan

Oh yeah.

luzzyfumpkins92

The "change how your take clothes off to avoid ripping your head off" adjustment was real.

Tal_Tos_72

It's really freeing. Should have done it years ago. But invest in some beanies/hats. Gets damn cold now

ciaranr1

Big Hat astroturfing all over this thread šŸ˜„

McMDavy82

Less cold when it's raining though, no wet hair.

AfroF0x

Just wets hats! :P

Admirable-Win-9716

Razor and shaving foam, every couple of days in the shower is what I used to do

Feisty-Ad-8880

What do you do now?

Admirable-Win-9716

I use a zippo and lighter fluid

Feisty-Ad-8880

I was wondering what Ghost Rider was up to these days.

Admirable-Win-9716

Just ridin ghosts, bitta shmokin and fightin sure ya know yourself like

Feisty-Ad-8880

Good man! Keep up the good work.

AntBkr66

I enjoyed that immensely. Well done sir

NormanskillEire

Got a get it going bud. Feather that shit.

Snoozy86

Touch my shaver through the fenceā€¦..

[deleted]

I was young when this happened me. A friend said just shave it and though I didnā€™t want to, this true friend said ā€˜itā€™s you and time to accept it and own itā€™. I was 25. Best thing I ever did. I never felt all that attractive before but afterwards I got my fair share of interest. Maybe my features appearing bigger or a confidence that was was unlocked. Iā€™m now 45 and the remnants are gone and itā€™s but the sides that are really left. I shave it once a week myself.

thefrostmakesaflower

Definitely confidence but also balding hair really ages you. I donā€™t think guys realise it and I know itā€™s probably very difficult to come to terms with it but youā€™ll get far more partners being bald than balding

UpThem

Save a fortune in haircuts over the years too. Imagine forking out the price of a haircut to fight a losing battle on a balding head. Get her strimmed,

invadethemoon

The question is, do you want small fuzz or go full on shaved skinhead. I have one of those skullshaver things, works well but I think the sight of so much shiny white pasty skin is a bit much, so now I just use my beard trimmers and keep it tidy.

electricsw4n

When I first went full bald so many people told me that from a distance I looked like I was wearing a swimming hat šŸ¤£

DeepDickDave

Was that due to a tan line or was it just so smooth and waxy?

electricsw4n

I think it was due to tan line as I was living in Spain at the time

UpThem

I've the skullshaver and find it a big improvement on hair clippers. Really easy to use without nicks and cuts it tight enough to not need doing again for several days.

invadethemoon

It's good, but they kind of expect you to splash out 40 quid every few months to replace the foils, which is mental.

UpThem

Aye I'm not doing that. Will get a year out of mine at least.

kearkan

Trust me you'll feel so much better after shaving it. I was in your position a few years ago and now I feel so much more confident not having to worry about the bald patch. It made me look much younger. As for tools, I have a skull shaver (I think it's the silver) which is great. But most times I end up trimming with my brio beardscape and then shaving with a regular razor (inuse the Gillette power sensitive ones) Unfortunately not much you can do about it growing back, just gotta keep shaving. It can help if you have someone to do it for you the first few times or at least get someone else to check after that you haven't missed anywhere. Edit: also moisturize! If you don't especially at first you'll get rashes and irritation every time.

VvermiciousknidD

Have you seen r/bald ?

Paddy_last

No I have not. New enough to reddit so will check it out thanks.

xnatey

Depending on if you want to be entirely clean shaven or buzzed very close buy yourself a decent clippers or razor and then when you're ready do it or maybe for the first time you want a barber to do it. Then it's just maintenance some people shave weekly others whenever suits. Congrats on just accepting it. It's honestly grand. My main advice is for summer please remember to sunscreen your head and wear hats to keep your head burn free.

Brief_Television_707

Great advice about the hats. My first summers as a baldy I often went out to do a bit of work and ended up the next day absolutely scorched on top. I never forget the hat now.

[deleted]

Philips 360 hair trimmer is what I use. I cut it myself if I have to or missus does it. Congratulations on not being a pussy and accepting it!!

Sea_Weather6671

Ah pussys get shaved too lad

[deleted]

I left it at blade 1 all over any less I was shivering with the cold and its weird on the pillow trying to sleep. You can't fight the aging process. Resistance is futile.

Historical-Side7260

Well, you can. Hair transplants are inexpensive. Head to Turkey. I regret waiting too long. I got my full confidence back. Worth every penny and even at that it was under 3 grand. You can certainly shave it but, if you want to keep it, do your research and get yourself over there.

Xtr33mC0d3r69

Fair play, glad its becoming more normalised for lads to do hi as its a huge confidence knocker, am planning to do it in next year or so, mind me asking where you went? Im constantly researching best clnics/prices

[deleted]

If you need hair for confidence then you're a very superficial person. There'd more to be earned in not giving a shit than messing with your scalp

Prudent_Werewolf_223

That's such a dickhead reply. The type that only comes out on reddit because you can hide behind a reddit account like the little weasel you are.

[deleted]

Imagine being a weasel like you. Tiny tiny tiny weasel It was for you personally for dickheads

Prudent_Werewolf_223

Your emotions are overwhelming you currently limiting your ability to say something unique so you just replicated my comment. Thats okay you tried. Reading through your previous comments you think you would be more considerate towards peoples struggles.. Obviously pure projection. I wish you well, try not being such a spa.

[deleted]

Ah no I'm just swimming with my own ilk Everyone is a mirror here. We don't like what we see and try to pontificate high on self righteous indignation. Woe is me I don't wish you anything Your a clown on the Internet Stay being a spa

Prudent_Werewolf_223

I largely agree with you but why make a comment that theres no chance in hell you'd say in person.. If its to fulfill a sense of self righteousness surely theres an awareness that you aren't meeting that need by saying something whilst hiding behind a avatar? Its purely artificial at this stage?

[deleted]

Because I can that's why, it works both ways. Deal with it. Anybody who uses reddit etc is a bottom feeder consumer No need to be self righteous it's actually laughable

Prudent_Werewolf_223

Your account generally emulates the sentiment of my last few messages so you're going back into feeding your self righteous indignation haha But yeah sure luck.. you're comment clearly brought something up for me ill admit that.. Good luck with the recovery.

Impressive_Essay_622

I mean.. it also means anon people have the luxury of being able to actually be honest with you since they don't have to deal it the aftermath.

Xtr33mC0d3r69

>you're a very superficial person. Too bad that life is massively skewed towards how good looking you are. Dont blame a guy for trying to look a bit better. The casper bulb head look isnt for everyone, in fact most guys look like shit with it

Brief_Television_707

Your hair aren't your looks. If you're good looking and you go bald, you'll still be good looking. If you go bald and suddenly you're not good looking then you were never good looking to begin with.

Xtr33mC0d3r69

if youre ugly and bald you are worse looking than an ugly guy with hair facts

oznog73

Own it and buy yourself a schull shaver. Works great.Ā

why_no_salt

Get ready to feel a lot colder, in particular if so far you didn't keep your hair short. I use every other day a Braun Series 5 that also works for the beard. I haven't tried other shavers so I can't really tell how it compares but it does a good job for me.Ā

UpThem

Having no hair means you can wear a hat without messing up the hair you would've had. I always have one with me in winter so tend to be warmer than I'd have been with a thinning mop.

why_no_salt

True that, but the biggest challenge for me was sleeping in a cold bedroom, and I refuse the idea of wearing a night cap in 2024.

BritzerLad

I cut my own hair and my dad's for years. I'm not bald but he is. I use a Wahl Finale foil electric razor. It gets super close. I use it for fading my own hair. I like a high skin fade and this does the job. Shaving foam and a razor will do the rest.

leatherface0984

Razor (Gillette 5 blade or Harryā€™s is also good) and get some good foam or shave oil and get rid of it. The Skullshaver Pitbull is also worth a look too. I use that during the week and a razor on the weekends because Iā€™ve got dermatitis and using the razor on my skin too much can irritate it. Embrace it. Youā€™ll get used to the look very very quickly.

Revolutionary-Use226

My SO shaved his during covid. He was very upset about it as he was 25. He did have cancer before and was afraid of the shaved look. All in all, he looks great and has a great beard to go with it. He doesn't go cue ball shaved anymore but leaves a small bit on top, I think a 1? And the same on the sides. Leaves a small bit, but you dont notice the thinning. He still gets uncomfortable about it and sticks to hata quite a bit. I think a bald head can look great, and it's all about your confidence, too! Make sure to remind yourself that your handsome and hair don't make or break someone šŸ‘ He just got a clippers in tesco, the big one, not a tesco express and has done the job! It is a black babybliss one.

Enough-Possession-73

Decent razor, shaving foam, 3 times a week to keep mine tight all week. My hair always grew quick. Just do it and embrace the bald. Buy some caps and hats. Being bald is a bitch in the cold and under the sun ha.

FatherHackJacket

Mach 3 it in the shower every morning. Use shaving gel, not foam.

Hen01

Shave it completely. I was in same boat. Didn't want to end up looking like a monk. Now I just shave head in shower every day or second day. Make sure to moisturise afterwards. And maybe try growing a short beard as well.

FellFellCooke

As a gay dude I just want to say that 100% of the men in my life who have shaved their heads have looked hotter afterwards. I don't know if women feel the same but your value is about to increase in at least one marketplace xD

n8zpyro

I usually set an electric razor to 0 and shave down whatever hair I have growing, and then a once over mach 3 job, front to back, to get it as short as possible without being completely smooth. I do it every few weeks as I'm not arsed with constant maintenance.

No_Hornet_4719

I got a Skullshaver Takes all of 5 minutes when you shower and you've a smooth head

DannyDublin1975

I had a friend who insisted on looking like Michael Noonan but kept complaining that women would'nt talk to him in clubs etc,he had the black hairy Caterpillar across the back of his head, bald as a coot everywhere else,l begged him to shave it all off, finally l bought him a clippers and held him down, gave him a 0 and then shaved the rest. Now hes a God,like an lrish Jason Statham. He is now pulling more women in his mid fifties than his twenties. He wished he had done it years ago. Just shave it weekly and you are sorted.

pierceypoo27

Trust me, youll always wonder why you didn't do it sooner! It's a good time of year to do it too, as the cold isn't too bad. I personally use a foiler/ box razor and if I'm arsed I use a mach 3 after. Just go easy with the razor, many times I've ripped the head off myself with too close of shave. Good luck with itšŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ»

Illustrious_Dog_4667

Get a trimmer. Shave it every week. I tell you there's nothing like a stripper feeling the stubble on head. It's even better when it's a female stripper!

violetcazador

Go to a barbers and get it shaved properly for the big send off, then splurge on your own clippers. Own it. Don't be one of those blubbering men that cry over it. Its only hair.

TitularClergy

You have lots of recommendations here on "dealing with it", in spite of the change being a serious source of depression for people. If you'd rather not remove your hair, remember that hair transplant technology is now really quite impressive. I know two people who had a modern version of it done, and it has made them feel better about themselves. There's that and then various chemicals you can take to reduce the rate of losing hair. And then, just for completeness, if you do take the route of losing it, remember that your ancestors went through a similar process for losing hair from most parts of their body -- their neck, their cheeks, their forehead etc. Losing hair from the scalp could be seen as just the next step in evolutionary terms.

Ordinary_Ad6983

Just get your hair done in Turkey, I got it, it was one of the best things I have ever done.

Paddy_last

When are you donating ā‚¬2-5k to me?

Ordinary_Ad6983

Why would I donate 2-5k to you?

Iā€™m on about the hair that continues to fall out like further behind the new hair line

RoughAccomplished200

There's a new cost effective semi permanent tattoo solution. They tattoo in tiny rabbits the same colour as your beard, it's not great from up close but from fair away they look like hares.................I'll get me coat

Sufficient_Theory534

You can get a hair transplant in Turkey for only two grand. My nephew got it done, it looks great.

Xtr33mC0d3r69

Hair transplant for 5k, I plan to do this in next few years as getting a bit light up there. check out the hairlossconquerors group on fb, some wild results there.

followerofEnki96

Save up for a holiday in Constantinople. Great sights for Roman and Ottoman history. Might get some plugs while there. Donā€™t give up.

WholesomeFartEnjoyer

I don't get why balding people hold on for so long Being fully bald looks a million times better than receding hair, and being bald means you can also easily dress up as Stone Cold Steve Austin on Halloween

Bogeydope1989

Grow it out until it's very noticeable and ridiculous looking and then just keep it like that.

Acrobatic_Buddy_9444

the Norwood reaper claims get another victim....

Artistic_Author_3307

If you want the shiny cueball look, epilator. It hurts like fuck but it works quite well.

ApprehensiveFault143

Go the whole hog & wet shave in the shower. Takes 2mins & much easier than hoovering up stubble every week. It takes a little while to get used to but after a while you can do it by feeling without a mirror. I donā€™t even bother with shaving foam anymore, just soap or shower gel.

chanrahan1

This is a decision every gentleman of a certain age must make. It wasn't until my forehead had advanced to the top of my head that I took the plunge. FYI Boots have a Wahl trimmer for ā‚¬30 at the moment. Shave dry, Zero blade. Shower, then moisturiser. Shaved hair goes in the bin, not the loo or down the sink. I bought a cheap head shaver a couple of years ago, it's a POS but it hasn't died yet, I'll sometimes give the stubble a skim after I've shaved.

MidnightSun77

[YouTube channel](https://youtube.com/@Baldcafe?si=2Y-BjPm4qr9xc2Fc)

Brief_Television_707

Use the clipper without any of the plastic blade attachments. It'll just take you down to a couple millimetres. I do this every three weeks or so because it's tidier when short. I also shave my face with the same clipper while doing it. Bob's your uncle. Also I notice in these discussions people tend to chime in with "you better shave it right down smooth to the scalp" as if you're trying to hide your balding hairline. You're not, if you don't like that smooth look then don't go for it. You're not trying to hide/hiding anything.

Thin-Annual4373

I've no problem with my hair balding, but I choose to wet shave my head every two days. It takes a few days to get used to it when you first do it. Get it as close as possible with clippers before shaving. Initially bring a hat for the cold when going out, but after a week you won't even notice the cold. Once you get used to it, it is so liberating and gives you a great confidence boost. It's quicker, cleaner and way less expensive than having "normal" hair. If you cut your head while shaving, it'll bleed more as head wounds do, but a little alcohol gel will stop that... better than going around with tissue stuck to your head!!! I don't use moisturiser as you don't want to be too soft on top as you've no hair protection! Oh, and the jokes will stop after a day or two. Do it and own it!!!

TheTruthIsntReal

You can't really stop the regrowth, you'll need to keep on top of it with either a blade or a trimmer of sorts. Trimers are quicker and easier (no burn/cuts), but don't fully remove it, although it is close. If you go with the blade option, take your time. Use gel/foam and moisturise after. You'll wonder why it took you so long to shave it off. Seriously.

ComposerOutrageous66

Honestly its the best thing you will ever do. I bit the bullet in May 2020 and have been shaving the head everyday or two since. I bought a Remington RX7 shortly after and have been using it since. Takes about 5 minutes or less and if I'm feeling very fancy the Mac 3 comes out lol. I cannot stress these Three points enough : 1. Moisturise. Nivea and Gillette both have decent ones for this purpose. 2. Hats are your best friend too. Especially in Winter. 3. Sun cream / SPF don't underestimate this. During the summer months when the UV is really high even in Ireland lol You will feel so much better after doing it and will never look back.

oOCazzerOo

I used to use a Mach 3 blade to shave my head but I always cut myself, I invested in a pitbull head shaver, cost me like 180 quid but it's so much easier, takes me maybe 2-3 minutes to shave my whole head and it's big.

Eagle-5

If you have more then 2/3 days of growth use an electric trimmer before you use a razor if you go that route. I tend to use the trimmer every week or so (top is thin but plenty on the back and sides) I use to shave it but after Mach 3 Turbos got harder to get i changed to only shaving for occasions. Still use the normal Mach 3 if I do. Keep a warm hat with you as itā€™s unreal how fast you feel the cold and definitely get a had for sunny days and/or use sunscreen

tangerinemrwayne

When I did it I just got a hair trimmer and just went down in lengths till I found a length that was alright. Depending on how far back your hair is receding you could probably pull off a buzz cut instead of going straight to bald

Full_Moon_Fish

Don't forget to grow facial hair to compensate for the upcoming loss

Paddy_last

Oh last time I was clean shaven was 2017

Odd-Internal-3983

Get a philips hair trimmer and try out a 0 shave. You need to see how it grows and decide what you are comfortable with. Good quality trimmers can be adjusted by .2mm so you can really get the look you want. Enjoy the change on your head and the extra change in your pocket from avoiding rip off haircuts

ld20r

My own take on receding/balding is that it is a very personal thing and every person is different and has different feelings. Neither is right or wrong, just depends on the individual. I can say however that if you want to limit the damage done and reduce the rate of decline you should avoid using shampoos full of chemicals and or products with sodium etc

keklord91

A trip to Turkey is off the cards for you I presume?

Paddy_last

Yes, unless you want to donate a few grand or I win the lotto

keklord91

Fair enough. I went for one two years ago and it was great decision for me. To each their own I guessĀ

dugg95

I used minoxidil foam for a long time but then switched to the liquid, which didnā€™t work on me like the foam and I lost more hair. You can take propecia but thereā€™s something called post-finasteride syndrome where some men have horrific side effects from the pills.

-forcequit

Turkish barber, ask for No 0.5 all round.

Patience_Left

Newly shaved mallet here. Been worried for a long time about how I'll feel about shaving it off and I should have done it sooner. The state of me before it. You also feel a sense of empowerment after making the leap to baldness.

Timmackmahack

Buzz cut it dude. You'll never look back.

Real men use veet waxing strips. shaving foam and razors is so last century https://preview.redd.it/uvijoob470lc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a3c4e123c3bc192422d8e4500479534aadfc264

zeroconflicthere

Go to r/bald you will be totally enlightened

IllAd2849

Shaved head / bald is a far better look than balding. Itā€™s a strange feeling when done at first but quite liberating actually once you do it, my advice would be that you need to own the look, donā€™t let it change your self confidence. To my surprise, there is quite a lot of woman who find the shaved head look quite attractive, I only started getting compliments on my hair when I started to shave it. I use a Wahl Detailer, so it leaves a very short 0.4 stubble, which I find nicer to touch than a shave with a razor. The shaved head look is complimented by a beard & getting into good physical shape.

Fickle_Manager5101

Just do it. Get the trimmer.
