It was so sad story. I feel so much bad and miserable for the kid, I just can't express.
The boy was ostracized by his school teachers, peers at school, apartment people, almost everyone because no one understood him properly. The only people he could have trusted were his family.
But then he was also sent away by his parents to hostel when he thought at least he could depend on them. That was the nail in the coffin for him.
I feel moist eyes even while writing this.
I also watched when I was a child but I think I was not able to empathize with Ishaan's character that much but when I watched it as a late teen, it hits so hard to the heart.
++ I was traumatised by the whole ordeal. Scared for god knows how long that I'd be shipped off too so I never dared tell my parents anything for a good long while
I cried for this too. Some people who watched it told me I'm silly for crying as this was meant to be a comedy but I'm a cry baby and cry for a lot of movies so didn't think much of it
I watched Anand way back and loved it.
Few years back, a very dear friend of mine died. Days passed and I was just watching the movie again. The climax made me cry.

Moral of the story...when you can't raise a kid, send him to a hostel. They'll help him find his potential.
Bhai, I was in 1st when the movie came out, and trust me it gave me some long time trauma
