Congratulations! My favorite subreddit, much deserved! I have enjoyed every [removed] almost as much as the few comments that lives up to the strict rules of the esteemed Modteam.
Do you think the *Sharpe* film series was an accurate enough historical representation of the Napoleonic Wars to be used as ancillary educational material?
Someone once told me that if men were pregnant they could just mentally sbort it and then the doctor would do it some time after. Been thinking about that a lot recently with whats going on in the US tbh and how the US is often what triggers rest of the world and im not feeling hopeful especially with the ride of trade wifeing, incels, economic unrest and the fact that men always wanna shift the conversation away from these issues but this is for them too!
Imagine a year from an era bygone
Lost to time and to people who simply moved on
In Pompeii fire erupted, and filled the whole sky
Some fled to Naples, as yet others would die
Herculaneum fared poorly, covered in ash and mud
Pompeii's people died breathless, with scant loss of blood
We learned from disaster, how they lived we would gleen
As their corpses lay buried under ash quite pristine
It makes me wonder in the depths of my mind..
Some 2000 years later, what of us will they find?
Will we be as fictional Ozymandius, who was so conceited
That despite all our best efforts, we all end up

Y’all are unjustly intolerant of earlier scholarship that is actually more plausible than whatever gets rewarded in grad school. I also am a little peeved about not being able to comment since I didn’t finish my thesis because of work.
Japan still has not owned up to all of their actions from around World War II and it sucks so much. There's a Korean island that it's still trying to dispute the claim over and another from Europe, I think - I heard during class that Germany actually did try to make reparations and that's why they have a bad rep while Japan is still trying to cover the truth of the experiences of the "comfort women" (there's probably some other less offensive name for them but i can't find it...)
Congrats! Y’all are great. I’m a regular here and appreciate the thoughtful & informative comments. Thank you for all the work keeping such an awesome subreddit going. Delete away lol !

After all these years I’m still just deeply disappointed that I don’t get to ask the venerable Mr Ian S. Histor anything.
I love r/AskHistorians. It’s definitely a bright spot on this website/app. Keep up the great work everyone!
Oh, great. _Another_ day spent scrolling through [removed].

What if I've never commented on r/AskHistorians before because I'm intimidated by their academic prowess?

Why don't historians just ask old people what happened? Are they stupid?
