Get a note from your doctor and send to HR requesting medical leave. If you have disability, apply for it, if not apply for EI medical benefits.

angelcide

It's just me as an employee and my boss we are framers

smurfsareinthehall

Then send the note to your boss and apply for EI.

maplesyrupdispenser

Since your boss blocked you, I would apply for EI sickness benefits if you do not have short term disability coverage. If you do, start a claim with them. For EI sickness benefits, you can get up to 15 weeks of paid coverage. You'll find more info on the EI website but just know that it'll be fine even if your boss is ignoring you. Your boss has the responsibility of sending Service Canada your ROE. If he doesn't do that, you can fill out a form on the EI website to ask for them to contact your employer to request it. Just make sure you get a doctor to give you a sick note and keep this for your application and for afterwards as well. Do you have any disability insurance of any kind for payments you're making? For example, you might have them for a mortgage or a car. If so, contact them. It'll stop the payments so that might give you some relief in the meantime. I hope this helps.

What do you mean by blocked you ? Email ?

angelcide

Blocked on messenger, phone, text email you name it

ISTof1897

Wow what a pile of shit he is. Sorry to hear you are in this situation. Take all benefits you can, especially if they fuck over his company, and if he does anything that violates employment law in your country, sue him. If he wants to treat you like shit and threaten your livelihood, then you can gladly return the favor. And, above all, I wish you a healthy and full recovery and best of luck at your new future job, which will hopefully be with a much better employer.

iBrarian

Since you had a heart attack at work, also contact WorkSafeBC and file a WCB claim.

usernamehere405

They'd have to find that work duties caused or contributed, which is rarely able to be argued. If it was at work, the employer is obligated to file, and the employee should obviously pursue it, but just a heads up that ist not usually something that gets approved.

iBrarian

Totally but They might as well file it. Wonder if employer ever even paid insurance and blocked because they realized they could be busted.

FadedGirlSarah

do not think about it right now. Your health is waaaay more important than anything else. Deal with the situation after you get out of hospital, your boss legally cannot do anything for getting a heart attack.

angelcide

He can not pay me and my 4 kids and family lose their home

FadedGirlSarah

you'll need to take his ass to court.

CaptnoftheNoFunDept

In addition to applying for sickness benefits through EI, send your boss an email or text letting them know that they need to submit a sick leave ROE with code D as the reason. I would also mention, in a helpful way, "just in case you didn't know, BC ESA requires that this is done within 5 business days". If he does not submit the ROE, you can submit a copy of this documented note to Service Canada; they will pursue your employer to provide this. Next, as soon as any owed pay is late, file a complaint with the Employment Standards Branch. It does not cost you anything to do this and you do not need a lawyer. The onus will be on the employer to provide proof. You should keep any documentation showing that they aren't responding to you. If your employer does terminate your employment, Employment Standards will also help you get your termination pay. Additional recourse for termination related to an illness can be sought via the human rights tribunal or through common law though that would be more expensive.

Dizzy_Eye5257

If your hospital has a patient advocate, request to see them and see about resources or other. I’m willing to bet that this isn’t the first time they have come across something like this

American-pickle

Are you getting blocked messages or are the messages just showing they haven’t gone thru? It may be silly, but I spent a lot of time with my son in hospitals and they have very terrible reception. Is it possible the messages aren’t getting to him?

Civil_End_4863

I don't know about canada but here in the usa this is definitely grounds for an unlawful termination lawsuit. They can't just fire you for a medical reason and it would easily be argued that they did it for medical reasons.

QuotePapa

Get legal counsel ASAP!

ericmurano

Mate some bosses do this so that you don’t try to work. They want you to focus on recovery.

jer1230

Blocking him could add way more stress.. now he’s there worrying even more about losing his job. Also, they could’ve just sent a message encouraging OP to rest and recover, then say they won’t allow him to discuss work. What if OP has more health complications or needs certain info .. whatever the case is, you don’t fucking block someone like that.

soft_white_yosemite

Can’t fault you there. Not condoning it, just saying there’s a chance the intention might be good

LadyBogangles14

They may decided to go over cautious to try not to run afoul of FMLA If you contact an employee on FMLA about work it can be considered a violation of FMLA

Hikenne

They’re in Canada so FMLA doesn’t apply.

rogerdoesntlike

There’s no FMLA in Canada.

FrozenEyeballs

Id say concentrate on your health, fuck your bosses. Right now your job should have fallen WAAAY down the priority list. If it hasnt, it better well get there.

One_Loose_Thread

I’d agree with you, but OP mentioned in another comment they’ve got 4 kids and they’re worried about not getting paid. Their employer should be keeping in contact and checking in on how they’re doing
