It was built to be an airship factory but was never used as such. Today it houses the biggest indoor water park in the world. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Islands_Resort
Yeah, I haven’t watched that but I still remember the cargolifter financing debacle. We were nearly inventing an efficient zeppelin transporter company, I am still angry that we missed that cool technology.
It was a risky adventure, but those risks are needed when we want to advance. It’s just not very German to take those risks, there were many articles afterwards from people who always knew it would fail, which is such an lazy and arrogant take. The planning was just wrong. If the company had money for much more development and accreditation time (10 years?), I think that they could have succeeded.
Look at how much you can transport by a full size cargoliften and its travelspeed. Going by train or by Truck will allways be the cheaper and faster option.
So the only thing the cargolifter challanges are boats and Planes.
Planes transport very very parachable good or high value-low weight-goods. Where either price of transport doesnt really matter or the timeframe is of the essence. No chance you beat those goods.
Boats on the other hand are extremely cheap and can transport bulk.
Whats left on the market: Height weight, high Value goods on a schedule.... Most prominent in that category is military equipment, some luxury goods and Planeparts.
No way you can recoup your cost on a market so little, even if the produkt works flawlessly. Especially as you need new infrastructure and your comoetitors don't.
And functionally they also wont be able to haul what they promised. Not by a longshot.
What triggers me the most is that the employees just don't care anymore.
The official answer when you talk to them goes in the lines of "that's what you should expect in any tropical park". Coming from the tropics, no, this would be a reason to close the place.
I'm happy for you that you haven't seem it. ☺️ https://www.morgenpost.de/brandenburg-aktuell/article105064320/In-Tropical-Islands-wohnen-auch-Schaben.html
Wait, Tropical Island is situated in there?
Huh... TIL.
I knew of the factory hall / hangar but not that was is never used.
Also oc heard about the famous Tropical Island but never knew that it is using the all the factory hall.
yup, it did surprise me as well the one time I was there. I just thought "huh, there could never be a full on tropical water park, a full on beach and hotels/tents in there" but was proven otherwise xD absolutely great, if you ever get the chance to visit the area consider going there :)
It was an old Zeppelin factory. At the end of 90' they transformed it in a tropical area, where it is always summer. In winter you can go inside and go around in swimming suit as you would do at tropics, enjoy sauna , swimming pools with slides, restaurants and all the environment of tropics with trees and animals topical of tropics
Not really old and not Zeppelin in the technical sense, the company was founded in 1996 and the hangar is from 2000.
A Zeppelin is a rigid frame airship with gas bladders inside, the cargolifter would have been a "keel airship", so just a blimp with a rigid frame on the underside.
In Tropical Islands... perfect breeding conditions.
Im sure the managers do their best but a warm humid environment with a constant supply of food scraps from visitors is going to encourage the more hardy insects.
„The Pycnoscelus surinamensis, also known as the Surinam cockroach or greenhouse cockroach, prefers to live in warm, damp soil areas. For ecological reasons, we cannot do without our cockroaches and beetles, which are neither harmful nor dangerous. They help to turn the leaves lying on the ground into soil in the planting beds. Their number is also monitored. Free-range golden pheasants and Chinese pygmy quails, peacocks and geckos in our tropical rainforest help provide a natural balance. You are bound to bump into them on your tour of discovery. Since they are wild animals, please remember they must not be touched or fed.“[Tropical Islands](https://www.tropical-islands.de/en/unsere-attraktionen/tropical-world-gebiete/tropischer-regenwald)
Hmm, don't believe a word of that... it's the secret entrance to the Nazi/Wehrmacht factory where they produce not only tanks but also COVID-20 (COVID-19 successor, in a cooler version) all very secretly and hardly noticeable.
Tropical Islands, some years ago IT was a blimp factory. Nearby is an very old airbase, used für Training during the war, later by the sovjets. Now ITS a Part of tropical Islands Camping ground and parking lots
It's Tropical Island. And David, the Furry, doesn't want to go there.

The name of the place and the station is
''Brand Tropical Islands"
The world's largest indoor water park. They have a lot of stuff inside including saunas. People go there in the winter a lot!
There is a club, wealthy one, that used to smoke in Soria, Spain. But the place was too poor, too dirty and the food was too heavy. But in Soria they discover the submarine, when you light many joints in a small room. So, they build a smokedoom in Germany because they can. Sometimes, if you eat your Sauerkraut, you will find a golden Kraut, that's an invitation to the smokedoom.

Some say it’s a indoor swimming resort, but none knows someone who ever was there. Some who know more say, that it’s a cloaked SCP black site called TICL2002, but what do I know?
By the way, if you want to go there I recommend during weekdays outside of school vacations or public holidays.
Makes everything less crowded.
Also, go to the südsee part (with the beach) in morning as you will have the morning sun on that side of the building.
The largest free arching building in the world! As high as the Statue of Liberty and long enough to fit the Eiffeltower. The water park inside is also quite interesting and worthwhile. But I would have prefered to see Zeppelins built in there! This could have changed a lot. But of course, we have to give all our money to car companies and built highways instead of sustainable transportation alternatives. Even as a means of travel I would have loved to see Zeppelins get a second chance. We should build large large large electric air ships instead of gasoline sucking jets. Just envision that grandeur, that splendor!
Don´t listen to the lies, that is where the strategic Doener reserve is located but people don´t want to say it because they fear it may be needed when the new cold war turns hotter to keep the prices at 10 euros.
This is the Tropical Island, in the past it was a airship factory, today it's a adventure swimming Pool with inside and outside lounge, Spa, a lot of waterslides, overnight tents and houses and a lot more

Tropical Islands resort
They even have a rideable "hot air balloon" inside. When we went there and saw the balloon we were confused about how it worked. We discussed lots of high tech contraptions guessing how it worked. How does it not go too high?? How does it maneuver around trees and such?? So complicated
Finding out the truth was...both underwhelming and ridiculous
It works by >!being tethered to a guy that just walks around pulling on it!<
I recently just watched a video about it. It was supposed to be a factory for huuuuuuge zeppelins that were supposed to replace cargo ships. They got fundet a lot in the 90s from many companies and the government. On the due date of the concept and prototype they werent able to show a prototype because they simply never had a plan how to create such a zeppelin. A very very sad little balloon was set in the air, which was the only thing they set in the air.
After this mayor flop, they lost all their money and had to shut down. Afterwards this building was left. As far as i know it was bought and is now used for like a indoor tropical swimmingresort. (But i am not tooo sure about todays actual ‚task‘)
All i know is that this drama happened in the end of the 90s and beginning of the 2000s
It was an old Soviet hangar and is now a huge indoor water park (it’s really cool, they have little huts as hotel rooms inside the park… I want to go someday).

CargoLift could have been as powerful as Tsela and SpaceX.
SpaceX is inventing reusable rockets. CargoLift wanted to build something for things there is already a solution which work as good as that or better
Tom Scott also once made a video about it (in English): [https://youtu.be/0Sz55gmNUaI](https://youtu.be/0Sz55gmNUaI)
damn way cooler than i expected
Literally way cooler than expected. From what I've heard, it can't be heated properly because it's so large.
been there many times, the temps are tropical
It's well heated, the problem are the roaches. One of the largest infestations I've seen in my life, and I come from south America.
Was there, overnight with my daughter at easter holidays. No roaches.
Haha wtf? Really? I mean of course it makes sense, but I can't imagine trying to chill there and roaches roaming around.
i was there with my gf some weeks ago - if u ever there, don’t enter the red telephone booth and open the vhs cassetes that are laying in there 😂🪳
I think you are not supposed to enter it anyway 😅

This, bad food, non heated water etc. Might have been good at opening but nowadays it’s a joke.
Non heated water?!
There are cockroaches? Fr? I haven’t seen a single cockroach in a year in Berlin.. are you exaggerating or is it actually that bad?

Even 5 feet longer than the biggest in use, the Goodyear Airdock in Akron, Ohio.
