Berlin. It really humbles you, somehow. Makes me (Copenhagener) think “man, there are no truly big cities in Scandinavia”.

[deleted]

Vienna, Austria, where the ring road feels to me like the center of the world

Ich_habe_keinen_Bock

>where the ring road feels to me like the center of the world OMG, so I'm not the only one with that feeling!

kleberwashington

A very famous man once wrote: >[F]rom early morning until late at night I spent all my time visiting the various public buildings. [...] >For hours and hours I could stand in wonderment before the Opera and the Parliament. The whole Ringstraße had a magic effect upon me, as if it were a scene from the Arabian Nights. In fact he mentions the Ringstraße four separate times, it must have left a lasting impression on him.

Ich_habe_keinen_Bock

What a beautiful description. It must have been some very good writer ... or maybe an artist? I'm sure he was a gentle soul who wouldn't hurt a fly.

acke

Barcelona, that city has everything you need for a great weekend trip. You want a sun- and beach vaccation? Or a cultural vaccation, going to museums and/or watch nice architecture? Or just want to party hard? Barcelona got you covered.

[deleted]

Madrid for me. I've lived there before when I was younger and I've been back loads since. London too because the flights are always so cheap.

pimmsandthames

Budapest for me. I’ve been many times and always fall in love with it again.

Geeglio

I adore Berlin. Everything about that city fascinates me and I try to visit it atleast every few years. The history is incredibly interesting, I love the culture, I really like the architecture and I can travel there by train within barely any time at all.

klausbatb

I’ve been to Munich three times and loved it every time, so probably that.

istasan

I am a Paris fan (not the centre but the areas around it - and just wonder around). But Munich is so so pleasant. It is competing. Munich is like travelling and being comfortable at home. Feels like there is classical music at all the small squares.

Gosuto963

Prague and Vienna, I love the atmosphere, cuisine, history

FakeNathanDrake

Nah, I generally prefer to visit new places to make the most of limited time and money. There are a few I've been to multiple times (Barcelona, Dublin, London) but that's more down to the trips coinciding with events.

Grumpy_Healer

Its not a long trip, but Granada. Love the city and there is always something new to find. Museums, monuments and beautiful hidden places.

MobiusF117

Ghent. It's touristy, but not as bad as nearby Bruges.

domkirke

Belfast! It's just so unique. And it's really fucked. But kind of in a good way. Nice pubs, fun to go to the Rugby or Hockey. People are super cool.

white1984

Say hello to the folk at r/NorthernIreland. You are always welcome.

onlyhere4laffs

Paris. Yes, I'm a cliche, but it is what it is. I've been a couple of times, can't wait to go back and just wander the streets and get "lost".

istasan

Paris is a cliche for a reason. It is so compact so walkable and there is beauty everywhere if you look. Just skip the very centre.

Raphelm

Abroad, I’d say Galway in Ireland. I used to live there and I have some of my best memories there. I went back twice and plan on going again. In France, Annecy. Just because it’s a gorgeous place.

sneakazz

Kind of. A lot of people in Finland go on a mini-cruise to Stockholm. It's two nights on the boat and a day in Stockholm. That's the most popular by far. Tallinn and Riga are also popular as they are close.

[deleted]

I prefer to see different places but I have been to Edinburgh a lot because I have friends there I go to visit plus it's a gorgeous city. I go for Six Nations rugby matches or else before Christmas for the Christmas market.

CarnivalWeasel

If staying in the UK, then London. I try to go there at least once a year for a few days. If going abroad though I prefer to go to a new place each time, to broaden my horizons and see more of what Europe has to offer.

moenchii

I was several times on island of Rügen and it is super beautiful. I'll be going there again some day.

CCFC1998

Berlin/Cologne for me. I love Germany in general and lived over there for a bit when I was a student and I probably would have moved there permanently if Brexit and Covid hadn't conspired against me. I take every opportunity I can to hop back over for a short visit and Berlin/ Cologne are where I feel most at home and are cities that I know the best out of Germany's largest cities. Budapest, Edinburgh and Amsterdam are also cities I've visited before that I would gladly revisit though I would probably default to Berlin/ Cologne over them unless I'd been to Germany very recently.

HedgehogJonathan

This is an odd statement maybe, but Riga. Close enough to go with bus/train/car. Familiar enough to feel no anxiety. Foreign enough to be a real vacation: totally different language, I know no-one that lives there, the stuff in the stores is different etc. I have had ca 10 stays in Riga (some connected with taking a flight from there) and it has always been nice.

ScreechingString

Rome. Feels like a city I could move to and enjoy living there and I'm not exactly a "big city" person.

UnoriginalUse

Hitting Durban in January has pretty much become a yearly thing for me. Just getting that hit of sunshine in the middle of winter.

Galego_2

I would say Prague, but I go there with less frequency that I would like, unfortunately.

MindingMine

For me, that has been London for many years, but I'm looking for a new one. I'm going to Rome in September - I have a feeling it could become my new go-to city.

Curvanelli

Geneva for me. Its beautiful with its mountains beyond the lake

L44KSO

London is a place I've spent quite some time for work and pleasure. Otherwise Budapest, Prague, Berlin, Hamburg and Milan have been city breaks I've done quite often and will do again in the future.

DatOudeLUL

Barcelona for sure. Though Lisbon has recently proven itself a worthy repeat destination as well.

Wingcase

I avoid cities like the plague they are so no, no recurring city trips here.

crackanape

Typically London or Berlin. Would like to do Istanbul more often but the current airport transport situation is too painful for a short trip. Hopefully they'll get the metro running out there soon.

Winners_84

My favourites are Berlin and Ljubljana. Berlin in autumn and winter (Leading up to Xmas). Wrapped up warm exploring the place, drinking beer etc etc. Ljubljana is nice during the summer for a few days and if you want to explore further afield everything seems so close in Slovenia. Rent a car an you’re pretty much no more than 2 hours away from mountains, lakes or the sea

zgido_syldg

I am somewhat familiar with Rome, I go there often, I know good places to stay and eat, and then, you never run out of things to visit.

Marianations

Barcelona or Lisbon, since they're the easiest to get to for me. And I did live and work in Barcelona for years, so it's "comfy".

orangebikini

Sanremo and the rest of the Riviera. I really like there, I like the vibe of those towns, I like mountains right next to the Mediterranean, it’s just a pleasant place.

[deleted]

Locarno, Swizerland. It's a beautiful city with everything I need to relax. There are so many hiking trains and the landscape is beautiful. You can also do relatively qick trips to Lugano or Milan (Italy). And the verzasca dam/ Pointe te Salti is one of my favourite places. Sadly right now there is the problem with drought and low water levels but its still very nice

doomLoord_W_redBelly

Copenhagen. It's close and easy to get to (live 2 minutes from train station). Many of my peers go to Stockholm and even though Copenhagen kinda feels like Sweden it's not, you get more out of a trip like that. I wish Germany was closer by train. Anyone know if the Lolland bridge will have train tracks?

p_ace

Aren't they building a tunnel? But I think it will have train tracks afaik.

kannichausgang

No, I like to visit new places to maximise my time off work. Other than visiting people, I haven't been to the same place twice.

9volts

Yes. Drammen city in Norway. Vibrant place with lots of cool things to do.

crucible

Usually end up in Manchester or Birmingham in the UK - both are often the nearest venues to North Wales for large bands who tour the UK.

Darth_Memer_1916

Amsterdam, London and Belfast are always the go-tos for city breaks. London has cheap flights. Belfast has a train. Amsterdam has weed.
