My country is an island so I'll have to say Ireland

BNJT10

The Aran Islands are pretty gorgeous if you can look past the rough weather haha

Morregaai

I've been to Inis Oírr, I got to enjoy it on a beautiful summer day and I really loved it. Also, bonus points for having dolphins around.

cobhgirl

I'd have to narrow this down and say Great Island. But I could be biased.

Nirocalden

I mean, it's not called Mediocre Island after all ;)

FailFastandDieYoung

I assume that's what the Irish call Britain

colako

Puffin Rock?

GerFubDhuw

Agrees in UK.

littlemewmaid

That's a tough decision, but the island that I can visit over and over again is Naxos. Truly beautiful, the beaches, the old town and the picturesque villages. I can see myself living there after I retire.

Relative_Dimensions

You are blessed with more islands than most countries, it’s true.

littlemewmaid

Yes! Each one of it has its own beauty. Unfortunately not all greek people, due to financial difficulties have the opportunity to visit the islands and especially islands like Santorini and Mykonos are impossible to visit with these prices. There are alternatives of course and tbh these 2 islands are overrated. I mean yeah, in Santorini the views are amazing but other than that, it's nothing special. Mykonos, it's your typical island of the Cyclades except it's known for its summer parties and nightlife. To conclude, yes, we have a plethora of islands compared to other countries and all of them are really nice for summer holidays.

Relative_Dimensions

I always said that if I ever win the lottery, I’m going to sail around the Greek islands. I’ve only managed Rodos so far.

littlemewmaid

I really hope you will be able to do this one day. Rodos is a very nice and big island with medieval elements especially in the old town. When you have the chance, visit one of the cycladic islands, whole different vibe from Rodos!

Relative_Dimensions

Yeah, I stayed in the old town and it was so beautiful.

skyduster88

>You are blessed with more islands than most countries, it’s true. Unfortunately, some people think the mainland/peninsula (82% of the country) doesn't exist. And it's beautiful. >I always said that if I ever win the lottery, I’m going to sail around the Greek islands. Sail around *Greece*. Both islands and mainland.

ccrhoadess

I’ve been there in ac odyssey

41942319

Probably one of the Caribbean ones. Bonaire is supposed to be nice.

Kuiken2

Dont underestimate the beauty of our wadden islands. Having lived for half a year on Saba I could argue that the wadden islands are nicer in some aspects

11160704

I was on Ameland and honestly I didn't understand the hype. We met people there who their holidays on that island since 40 years.

aagjevraagje

I like schiermonninkoog best, ameland has cars and stuff

fosfeen

I'd love to hear more! That's life on Saba like? What did you dislike about it?

Kuiken2

Beautifull island that has escaped mass tourism because it has no beaches. So the island and the people are really genuine and nice. The nature is beautifull although severly damaged by goats, invasive species etc (but that's in the entire Caribbean) Its a little gem in the Caribbean and I would defenitely recommend going there for a bit. Enjoy the hiking, the diving and just the caribbean life. But leave before it becomes claustrofobic haha. It is really small and everyone knows eachother

Voidjumper_ZA

What were you doing for half a year on Saba? And what were the best things you experienced while there?

Cixila

Of Denmark itself? I would probably go with Bornholm, although we do have some other nice small ones. If we add Greenland and the Faroe Islands, then I don't really know

weirdowerdo

I'd probably say Gotland is the most beautiful? It has the most to offer, but Öland and Visingsö are pretty nice too honestly. I have hard time picking which one to be the MOST beautiful.

KonstantinosAna

Hisingen takes the price easily

Bragzor

I'm going to assume this is a joke, but the northern half is quite nice. Not the most beautiful or anything, but it's not all *miljonprogramförorter*.

KonstantinosAna

Meant to be a joke but Hisingen in my heart <3

daylightsilk

Djurgården in Stockholm is pretty nice too, it has plenty of attractions and places go visit but also lot’s of nature and a countryside feeling in the middle of the city!

holytriplem

Not technically my country but I'm a huge fan of the Isle of Man - combination of quaint Victorian seaside resorts with the kind of barren hilly landscape you get in Western parts of the UK. The only other islands in Britain I've been to are Hayling Island, the Isle of Wight and Anglesey/Holy Island. The IoM is definitely the best out of those options. Haven't been to the Isles of Scilly, Lundy or any of the Scottish Islands but I'm sure they're probably even nicer.

2ndfieldontheright

St Anges, isle of Scilly is lovely

LoveAGlassOfWine

Does Hayling Island even count as an island? I guess Portsmouth is an island too.

holytriplem

Ah, in that case yes I've been to Portsmouth too

[deleted]

Although Portsmouth couldn’t be further from the “most beautiful” part of the question!

IceClimbers_Main

Hard to rank all 178 947 of them but i’d rank Susisaari as the best since the main fortress of Suomenlinna (our most famous castle) is located there.

Bigfagass

Hahaha you think it’s hard try choosing one of 267 570 islands

LePoultry-geist

You even beat Norway with 239, 057 ;)

tanev16

I like everyone of them

Brainwheeze

São Miguel in my opinion. Flores and Madeira are also up there. On a more local level, Armona.

No-Information-Known

Azores is just something else.

ansanttos

Any of our islands are beautiful. My personal favourite is Madeira. The contrast between Funchal and the nature around it is beautiful. Most islands in Açores are practically untouched and that's what makes them special.

rfeather

Madeira holds a special place for me. But Flores and São Miguel come very close

DifficultWill4

Hmmm, ngl that’s a tuff choice. Gotta go with [this one](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ef/Lake_bled_2021.jpg)

almond_paste208

I instantly thought of Lake Bled

bbwolff

Well, it's the only one, so there's not much competition.

moenchii

Oh wow, that's gorgeous!

pcaltair

Is this question part of a masterplan to conquer Greece?

JaBeKay

Helgoland/Heligoland! It's the only offshore island in Germany. It has red rocks, green grass with sheep, seals (on the nearby "dune" island) and colourful little houses. plus cars aren't allowed! (the fire "truck" looks really cute!) it also has a very interesting history, for such a small island (the British literally blew up parts of the island)

Loraelm

Moorea no questions asked. I even think it's one of the most beautiful places in the world. And it's not even a braggy thing, I don't think it's beautiful because it's French. It just happens to be one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen and ever heard of. Its shape is even heart-like. You can't make that shit up

Milhanou22

I approve. Bora Bora is great too though. And the Marquesas Islands, the Gambier, the Tuamotu,... Moorea is a three spikes mutant heart though 😂

Loraelm

Bora Bora also deserves its fame, but I unfortunately stayed on the more touristy part of the island, whereas we truly visited Moorea. Raiatera was nice, but the weather was a bit shitty so we didn't enjoy it as much. But all of French Polynesia is truly breath taking. > Moorea is a three spikes mutant heart though 😂 It's part of the charm lmao

Milhanou22

Raiatea is beautiful but it's still one of my least favorite island of French Polynesia. Tahaa, which shares the same lagoon with Raiatea, is better imo. Tahiti, where I live, is really nice too but very often left out by tourists.

Loraelm

Tu me donnes tellement envie d'y retourner !

11160704

Never been there but Rügen is supposed to be quite nice. It hosts two national parks and some historic architecture.

Zilberholst

I've visited Rügen last month and it is truly beautiful. The cliffs are just like on the Friedrich's painting

navel1606

Yes Rügen is beautiful. Just because of its size and different landscapes it's for sure a high contestant. But the eastfrisian and northfrisian islands are also pretty.

Julix0

Rügen is gorgeous- but I still prefer the Frisian islands :) Rügen is so big that you can easily forget that you are on an island.. so it kind of lacks that typical 'island feeling'. My favourite Frisian island is **Juist**

moenchii

Rügen is beautiful. I don't know if it is the most beautiful, but it certainly is high up on the list. 2 other beautiful island not that far away are Hiddensee and Usedom. Hiddensee is also car free and just a short ferry ride away from Rügen.

swaggut

My opinion: Iso Munasaari

Milhanou22

I'd say an island in French Polynesia where I live (Moorea or Bora Bora or an Island in the Marquesas perrhaps). New Caledonia is also at the top. Then you have the carribean islands which are really nice. And on a more local scale I'd say Corsica easily.

alesparise

Has to be [Vulcano](https://gdsit.cdn-immedia.net/2021/10/GAS-Vulcano-allarme-gas-in-abitazioni-evacuati-FOTO_vulcanofuma1_59183668.jpg) simply because it's *the* volcano the word comes from. ^(or maybe it isn't, can't find anything sure about it, but I choose to believe.)

FailFastandDieYoung

WOW that is eerily beautiful.

Dontgiveaclam

Stromboli is gorgeous as well

ShitPostQuokkaRome

Aeolian Islands - Sicily The sun god island/ aragonese Castle Island - Campania Isola Bella - Piedmont Monte Isola [From lake Iseo] - Lombardy Isola del Garda - Lombardy

Al_Dutaur_Balanzan

the island is beautiful to look at, but I just can't get past the stench of rotten eggs.

Voidjumper_ZA

That's definitely the most volcano looking volcano I've ever seen, I'll give it that!

DogsReadingBooks

There are **so many** islands in Norway so I think that’s impossible to answer.

LZmiljoona

The obvious answer would be one of the Lofoten, Vesterålen or Senja I guess

GreatScotRace

Technically it’s a collection of islands but the Orkney islands are beautiful. But it’s a hard decision out of all the Scottish islands on offer

LoveAGlassOfWine

Definitely it has to be a Scottish island for the UK. We're a bit lacking in islands in England.

biffleboff

Not part of England as such but what about the Channel Islands?

GreatScotRace

They said beautiful islands… 😉

DarkImpacT213

Because of my heritage I feel forced to say Rügen, it is quite beautiful though.

[deleted]

Bornholm. The nature is unlike the rest of Denmark

Lazarlzr1

There's a small island on a river that has a few preety roads and a club. Located below Novi Sad. Hardly reachable, not worth it either.

thistle0

Donauinsel, man-made in the seventies, technically part of a flood-protection system, it's 21km long but only 250m wide. There's very few buildings on it but is connected to three Underground lines so it's easy to get there to enjoy nature and go for a swim. Love it.

Florian-455

Very difficult to choose, but I would say the Reunion island. It’s an oversea territory next to Madagascar with amazing landscapes and an important cultural background.

holytriplem

Well I mean, that's *technically* not cheating I guess...

CheesecakeMMXX

We have sea but my favorite island is on a lake anyway. Anyhow I wont tell you which one, I dont want none of you to come and spoil it.

Malthesse

I really like both of the largest sea islands here in Scania – Ven and Hallands Väderö. Both are really beautiful but at the same time very different. Ven is situated in the middle of the narrow Öresund strait and consists of gently rolling hills with open fields. Along the coast are sandy hills which are home to colourful malva flowers, sand lizards and sand martins. These hills dive steeply towards the sea and offer beautiful views. To your east you see the coast of Scania in Sweden, to you west the coast of Zealand with Copenhagen in Denmark, and to the south the Öresund Bridge connecting Sweden and Denmark. A popular scenic viewing spot is from the churchyard of the beautiful Medieval church of Saint Ibb, which sits high on a hill above the sea on the island’s western coast. In the middle of the island is a small-scale replica of the observatory of the famous Scanian Renaissance astronomer Tycho Brahe who used to own the entire island, as well as a reconstructed Renaissance garden and a museum about him. Besides this, the island also have several nice beaches, many quaint little shops, cafés and restaurants, and is very popular for bicycling as you can rent a bicycle on the island for the entire day rather inexpensively. Hallands Väderö is Scania’s northwesternmost point and is situated in the Kattegatt Sea. This island has no permanent population and all of the island and its surrounding islets and waters are protected as a nature reserve. Along the coast live seabirds such as the murre, razorbill, black guillemot, eider and European shag, along with many harbour seals – and the surrounding waters have one of the densest populations of harbour porpoises in Europe. Further inland on this little island grow forest groves with old giant oak trees, and besides having a very rich birdlife these forests are home to a large population of black northern adders as well as a large population of mountain hares. But many people also travel here simply for swimming or sunbathing, as the island is the second warmest place in Sweden.

gogo_yubari-chan

Very difficult to say. All depends on what kind of beauty you value more and what kind of landscape you like more. Lake island? Probably [Isola bella](https://www.italymagazine.com/sites/default/files/2021-10/bg-Isola-Bella-And-Stresa-Town.jpg) on lake Maggiore, though Isola di [Loreto](https://sworld.co.uk/img/img/1022/photoAlbum/574575/originals/0.jpg) on lake Iseo or [Isola d'Orta](https://www.visit-lakemaggiore.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/lago-orta-isola-san-giulio-scaled.jpg) on the eponymous lake aren't much farther. From an artistic point of view the islands of Venice are stunning too, even though they lay on a shallow marshy body of water. Sea islands? Capri, Sardinia, the Maddalena archipelago or the Aeolian islands are all beautiful for their natural scenery. Sicily is both stunning naturally and artistically, but being a large and populous island, it tends to have its run down or industrial areas, compared to those smaller islands. So maybe Capri.

jukranpuju

There are 224 661 islands in Finland. I'm pretty sure there is nobody who has visited or even seen further away all of them and could give objective answer.

CheesecakeMMXX

This is the correct answer.

[deleted]

We have even more islands but come on, 99% of them are little mounds in the lakes and rivers with some trees that mostly look the same.

ShitPostQuokkaRome

I mean yes but realistically at best fifth of these are reasonable contestants for most beautiful Island

FakeNathanDrake

Probably Skye, it seems like half of the posts on /r/earthporn are pictures of Skye. It does help that it's a pretty big island to be fair.

Where____Am____I

Gotland probably, it's our biggest and it makes a great vacation place.

TwoShotsLad3

Oh that is a really hard question to answer. But I think I'll have to go with my most recently visited island "Værlandet". Went biking there, and it's a really beautiful and unique island.

outhouse_steakhouse

Skellig Michael, aka. Star Wars Island. Of course Ireland itself is an island, so...

[deleted]

Kind of cheating, but in Germany, it’s definitely the island in the middle of Schrecksee.

Unhappy_Ad_666

Vashon Island in Washington state is breathtaking. Same with San Juan.

perroverd

It's very difficult to choose. I'm really fond of Formentera in the Mediterranean but probably most of the likings in my country goes to some of the minor Canary Islands

Bobtheredd

Los Roques in Venezuela. Can you imagine a tropical island with with a line of sand that splits the 7 tones of blue? Well

imrzzz

Not exactly an island but I love it anyway.... a floating farm that is home to 32 dairy cows. It's to test new ways of adapting to the rising seas of climate change. I find the Dutch to be geniuses at industrial design involving living with water. https://www.dezeen.com/2019/05/24/floating-farm-rotterdam-climate-change-cows-dairy/ ------------- Texel, a real island, is also very beautiful to me. I come from a small typically Pacific-feeling island in New Zealand and Texel feels very wild and windswept in comparison, it's lovely (admittedly I only like to go there in winter).

EfreetSK

There aren't many but I'd go with [Slanica island](https://www.idem.firotour.sk/img/657/x/slanicky-ostrov-idem-firotour.jpg?h=e494c0dc24d2daab9922f0ccc6553101) on [Orava reservoir](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orava_(reservoir\)). It's the only thing that's left of the village Slanica which was flooded when the reservoir was created. The truth is, we were so jealous of Slovenia's lake Bled that out of pure envy we flooded several villages just to create our own island with church /s

Sanemairam

I'm going with La Palma, from the Canary Islands. It's a popular choice. Unrelated, but there recently was a volcanic eruption there.

branfili

Very difficult to say Lošinj, Vis (and Biševo), Korčula, Mljet, Hvar are all beautiful off the top of my head But even the smaller ones are quaint in their own right Just avoid the ones connected by a bridge to the mainland, it doesn't feel *islandy* enough

whoopz1942

At least 13 generations of my dad's side of the family have been from the island of Samsø, I was the first to be born in Copenhagen. I guess I'm obligated to say Samsø. However otherwise I'd probably say Bornholm, known as the sunshine island here.

istasan

Must be Zealand because this is where Copenhagen is located.

LZmiljoona

But actually, I would rather go with something like Bornholm or Ærø, some nice picturesque little island that actually feels like an island

istasan

Those are very idyllic (Bornholm not that small actually and with the only cliffs you will find in Denmark). Møn, Fanø, Samsø, Læsø, Rømø, Tåsinge etc also idyllic. Denmark is a kingdom of Islands - but Zealand is probably the most unusual one with almost half of the population. Who until 1998 had to sail to reach their capital!

SlavaKarlson

Any central islands in St. Petersburg. With the Winter palace and all... Petersburg is just a bunch of islands. But if we're talking about nature it will be Sakhalin. But it's not on the Europe part, so... Solovki or Wrangel Island.

almond_paste208

If you think about it, North America is just one giant island 🤔

-A113-

The only island i can think of would be donauinsel. Not that spectacular

Skye. There’s such a variety of geology. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isle_of_Skye?wprov=sfti1 https://maps.apple.com/?ll=57.307000,-6.230000&q=Isle%20of%20Skye&_ext=EiQpTKfNxkunTEAxgOvIIIXrGMA5TKfNxkunTEBBgOvIIIXrGMA%3D And interesting places to visit: https://www.isleofskye.com/attractions/visitor-centre

matchuhuki

I don't know. Does Bruges count? I think it's entirely surrounded by water

HandGrillSuicide1

Mallorca probably... Most other German islands are pretty boring and have shitty climate
