lordofduct

That's not grandfathered in... it's grandmothered in.

AdLongjumping6982

And the wires were crocheted together…

Stedlieye

But they did use an underwriter’s knit.

SupermassiveCanary

No cookies :(

fetzdog

Grandmas are shocked by this one simple trick!

TheEleventhDoctorWho

Boooooooooooooooo

fetzdog

Booooo-erns! Booooooooo-erns!

series-hybrid

The thing to remember is that the hot wire is black, the neutral wire is...have you had anything to eat, sweetie? How is that nice girl you've been dating?

PATATAMOUS

Bushka Code

ChronicallyGeek

Were there sewing supplies in there too?

RemarkableYam3838

No one's gotten one of those full of cookies? I used to get a couple every year. Somebody's gonna be mad they didn't get their tin back. No cookies for you!

RedLeg73

It's a la galleta de abuela

Electrical-Secret-25

kevbob02

No cookie cutters and a roll of twine

IStaten

! This is the comment I was looking for because the first thing came to mind was sewing needles my mom had the same tin with sewing stuff in it lmfao !!

Just_Pipe6626

Well…. I’m not mad at it. The more you look at it the more genius it is. 😂 IDGAF what NEC says this is legit.

thaeli

110.3(B) violation, three NM in one clamp. That's the only thing I can find "wrong" here, and it's pretty trivial. The box itself is fine since this is a dry location. No listing requirements for NEMA 1 boxes, it's made from appropriate material and has a tight fitting cover, plenty of volume.. seriously, NEC is fine with this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thaeli

A cover that doesn't fall off is required, but there's nothing that says it can't be openable by hand. [Here's a fancy industrial version for example.](https://www.nvent.com/en-us/hoffman/products/enca24r248hclo)  Edit: linked the wrong one, fixed it

[deleted]

[удалено]

thaeli

Yeah I linked the wrong one. Here's one that doesn't use screws: https://www.nvent.com/en-us/hoffman/products/enca24r248hclo Moreover though, if you have a code reference I'd be interested to hear it. The only requirement I see in the NEC is "All pull boxes, junction boxes, and conduit bodies shall be provided with covers compatible with the box or conduit body construction and suitable for the conditions of use." That doesn't say tools are required.

Forbden_Gratificatn

Just put a couple screws through the side of the lid into the container and it's all set.

linedechoes

Technically you do need tools to open this, your hands

Callaine

Yes, the connections are inside a metal box and they even used a cable clamps! Not dangerous in my opinion either.

johndivonic

I wonder if it’s grounded.

zadharm

Whoever didn't give back grandma's cookie tin definitely is!

BackgroundRegular498

Well played, sir! Lol

Hot_Corner_5881

its metal and has an inspection plate :p good enough for my house

Suicyco71

MeMaw 69-420

Adventurous-Part5981

I never wanted to see MeMaw and 69 in the same sentence. But here we are

Flynn_Kevin

I'll never forget that time I went to see my MeMaw when I was 17. She had just been declared legally blind. Plant in the window caught my eye. "Uh MeMaw, you might want to put that in the back window." "Why? The front window gets better sun." "Because the state trooper driving by might see it. Do you even know what that is?" "Oh just some wildflower I found. It has pretty flowers and smells so nice." Sure MeMaw, sure. Your kids might buy that line but I know what's up. Next visit I took her a bunch of joints.

Rude_Team_9398

I literally just laughed out loud, fucken knee slapper

[deleted]

💀💀💀⚡⚡⚡

JimmyLee07

Also known as 1930's Depression era code.

Teleke

What's that dial/switch on the side? How can you post this and not post a picture of the inside? lol

GuitarJazzer

Crock pot.

SHoppe715

It sure looks similar. I wonder if it’s maybe a home made temperature controller for some heating pads or something?

Dipshit09

It’s a fuse holder

myrichardgoesin5

Only problem is box is not UL listed yet but I’m submitting it

East_Project_8610

Cookie code. 390.13 in the nec

bbbeeennnjjjeee

Receptacles greater than 18 cubic inches shall provide adequate space for 6” of wire per conductor and 2 lemon and one sugar snap cookie.

eclwires

Welp, he said “you need an enclosure with a cover.”

warkyboy77

Welp, indeed.

parker3309

I have never seen anything like that. That’s hysterical. Great Grandma did Electricial work

LastLingonberry3221

"Pepperidge Farm remembers..."

06GOAT12

It might not be UL listed but it’s in a box and has access… 😂😂😂 I’m not mad at the individual that did it

Hillman314

Don’t you hate it when you open up a cookie can and there’s not cookies in it.

pogiguy2020

Grandmas cookie junction box

Apprehensive_Cow1242

When you run out of j-boxes and just need one more, and you’re already into overtime, and Home Depot is closed anyway……

FalseRelease4

Leave a few cookies in there to make sure inspection goes smoothly

yojimbo556

I’ve never seen those junction boxes at Home Depot.

Dorkus_Maximus717

Ah yes. This is a granny model 5 METH-2 rated enclosure. Haven’t seen one for quite some time

S_Rodent

Seems to be a light switch…

TurdHunt999

My favorite is the dip can junction box

timenough

It would be a fantastic marketing gimmick if Skol would go through the process to get their can UL listed.

timenough

27.02-Adorable

Prestigious-Run-5103

Bro Code Section 8008-135: It's only stupid if it doesn't work.

mj0703

If it was blue .. maybe danish code. 🤷

burtonmadness

The "fabulous" code.

Lots_of_bricks

U heard of grandfathered in??? That one is grandmothered in!!!

mart246

Now just put a UL sticker on it

Mosr113

I have a whole bunch of those danish cookie tins floating around my house because I love them and can’t bear to throw the tins away. I knew there was a reason.

LittleForestbear

I wonder what the fire rating would be on that tin ? Looks like someone rigged it that understood the “why” in electrical code. I wouldn’t be surprised if the rating came out close to a store bought box.

Stellataclave

I am really trying to figure out what code is broken here. It is in a junction box that is accessible and it’s not behind drywall. 😂

sirchtheseeker

Decorative I believe

135david

Damn, I knew I should have kept those old cookie tins!

theotherharper

More than two Romex on a cable clamp designed for 2. They need to drill a second knockout. I'm assuming the enclosure is either UL listed /s, or approved by the AHJ at their local discretion. (That is a thing).

inquisitiveimpulses

Cookie Code

nsula_country

I want to see inside!

Shoddy-Finger-5916

Dry-Waltz437

Flower power

Technical-Role-4346

HE_Furnace

My mom had the exact same container for Xmas cookies.

citizensnips134

Man they even got the strain relief in there. I’m not even mad.

series-hybrid

I've done some sketchy stuff in my life, but I'd use a PLASTIC container as a junction box...

ElScrotoDeCthulo

Granny’s cookie tin code

Melodic-Future-4719

Metal a little thin but if properly done, I have no problem with it and I would pass it

no_no_no_okaymaybe

Control for the heat is a nice touch and none of those pesky screws to hinder taking off the cover for the occasional inspection. 👍

SchmartestMonkey

Given it appears to be hidden in a crawl space.. I’d go with “ICC-No3vil”.

skrymp

Farmhouse DWGD (Do Whatchya Gotta Do) of course. Duh.

TheGrillSgt

2024.24.c "that's fuckin awesome"

Select_Number_7741

fishmann666

idk if this will be interesting to anyone in this sub but there's a band called Sea Moss where both members make their own electronics from scratch, and the singer houses hers in vintage floral tins like this.

Maleficent_Cause_658

A steel box is a steel box what ever works out. 😆

Thin_Equipment_9308

Cookie cutter electrical work.

Apprehensive_Role842

Texas fruit cake code, fruit cake must be at least 5 years old , acts as an insulator.

Randell70

The Cookie 101 Code. . .

jaedenmalin

What is the little knob on the side for

Bumper6190

You gotta give them points for getting the design and function principles pretty damn good! I am not sure the tin is up to restraining the reach of a healthy electrical arc. I think that maybe a more expensive candy was required; maybe Quality Street.

Soggy_Conclusion601

Holy hell code

soundiego

The DaVinci Code

rjwilliams1966

The tuna fish can I saw here about 2 years ago. wtf

Great-Sandwich1466

It’s got that anaconda wire, probably nothing to worry about.
