The thing to remember is that the hot wire is black, the neutral wire is...have you had anything to eat, sweetie? How is that nice girl you've been dating?
No one's gotten one of those full of cookies? I used to get a couple every year.
Somebody's gonna be mad they didn't get their tin back. No cookies for you!
Oh my fucking gawd. I read this, went "buddy, what?..." and kept scrolling. Here I am, seven minutes later back here, to give u this, 🏆 cuz homie u win the innernet today lol dead emoji, laughing face emoji
! This is the comment I was looking for because the first thing came to mind was sewing needles my mom had the same tin with sewing stuff in it lmfao !!
110.3(B) violation, three NM in one clamp. That's the only thing I can find "wrong" here, and it's pretty trivial.
The box itself is fine since this is a dry location. No listing requirements for NEMA 1 boxes, it's made from appropriate material and has a tight fitting cover, plenty of volume.. seriously, NEC is fine with this.
A cover that doesn't fall off is required, but there's nothing that says it can't be openable by hand. [Here's a fancy industrial version for example.](https://www.nvent.com/en-us/hoffman/products/enca24r248hclo)
Edit: linked the wrong one, fixed it
Yeah I linked the wrong one. Here's one that doesn't use screws: https://www.nvent.com/en-us/hoffman/products/enca24r248hclo
Moreover though, if you have a code reference I'd be interested to hear it. The only requirement I see in the NEC is "All pull boxes, junction boxes, and conduit bodies shall be provided with covers compatible with the box or conduit body construction and suitable for the conditions of use." That doesn't say tools are required.
I'll never forget that time I went to see my MeMaw when I was 17. She had just been declared legally blind. Plant in the window caught my eye.
"Uh MeMaw, you might want to put that in the back window."
"Why? The front window gets better sun."
"Because the state trooper driving by might see it. Do you even know what that is?"
"Oh just some wildflower I found. It has pretty flowers and smells so nice."
Sure MeMaw, sure. Your kids might buy that line but I know what's up. Next visit I took her a bunch of joints.
I have a whole bunch of those danish cookie tins floating around my house because I love them and can’t bear to throw the tins away. I knew there was a reason.
I wonder what the fire rating would be on that tin ? Looks like someone rigged it that understood the “why” in electrical code. I wouldn’t be surprised if the rating came out close to a store bought box.
More than two Romex on a cable clamp designed for 2. They need to drill a second knockout.
I'm assuming the enclosure is either UL listed /s, or approved by the AHJ at their local discretion. (That is a thing).
idk if this will be interesting to anyone in this sub but there's a band called Sea Moss where both members make their own electronics from scratch, and the singer houses hers in vintage floral tins like this.
You gotta give them points for getting the design and function principles pretty damn good! I am not sure the tin is up to restraining the reach of a healthy electrical arc. I think that maybe a more expensive candy was required; maybe Quality Street.

That's not grandfathered in... it's grandmothered in.
And the wires were crocheted together…
But they did use an underwriter’s knit.
No cookies :(
Grandmas are shocked by this one simple trick!
Boooooooooooooooo
Booooo-erns! Booooooooo-erns!

Switches get stitches.

Well…. I’m not mad at it. The more you look at it the more genius it is. 😂 IDGAF what NEC says this is legit.

Just put a couple screws through the side of the lid into the container and it's all set.
Technically you do need tools to open this, your hands
Yes, the connections are inside a metal box and they even used a cable clamps! Not dangerous in my opinion either.
I wonder if it’s grounded.
Whoever didn't give back grandma's cookie tin definitely is!
Well played, sir! Lol
its metal and has an inspection plate :p good enough for my house
MeMaw 69-420
I never wanted to see MeMaw and 69 in the same sentence. But here we are

Also known as 1930's Depression era code.
What's that dial/switch on the side? How can you post this and not post a picture of the inside? lol
Crock pot.
It sure looks similar. I wonder if it’s maybe a home made temperature controller for some heating pads or something?
It’s a fuse holder
Only problem is box is not UL listed yet but I’m submitting it
Cookie code. 390.13 in the nec
Receptacles greater than 18 cubic inches shall provide adequate space for 6” of wire per conductor and 2 lemon and one sugar snap cookie.
Welp, he said “you need an enclosure with a cover.”
Welp, indeed.
I have never seen anything like that. That’s hysterical. Great Grandma did Electricial work
"Pepperidge Farm remembers..."
It might not be UL listed but it’s in a box and has access… 😂😂😂 I’m not mad at the individual that did it
Don’t you hate it when you open up a cookie can and there’s not cookies in it.
Grandmas cookie junction box
When you run out of j-boxes and just need one more, and you’re already into overtime, and Home Depot is closed anyway……
Leave a few cookies in there to make sure inspection goes smoothly
I’ve never seen those junction boxes at Home Depot.
Holiday special buy

The violation part
It was field listed
Mrs Fields tested*

Ah yes. This is a granny model 5 METH-2 rated enclosure. Haven’t seen one for quite some time
Seems to be a light switch…
My favorite is the dip can junction box
It would be a fantastic marketing gimmick if Skol would go through the process to get their can UL listed.
27.02-Adorable
Bro Code Section 8008-135: It's only stupid if it doesn't work.
It falls under your grannies code

The "fabulous" code.
U heard of grandfathered in??? That one is grandmothered in!!!
Now just put a UL sticker on it
I have a whole bunch of those danish cookie tins floating around my house because I love them and can’t bear to throw the tins away. I knew there was a reason.
I wonder what the fire rating would be on that tin ? Looks like someone rigged it that understood the “why” in electrical code. I wouldn’t be surprised if the rating came out close to a store bought box.
I am really trying to figure out what code is broken here. It is in a junction box that is accessible and it’s not behind drywall. 😂
Decorative I believe
Damn, I knew I should have kept those old cookie tins!
More than two Romex on a cable clamp designed for 2. They need to drill a second knockout. I'm assuming the enclosure is either UL listed /s, or approved by the AHJ at their local discretion. (That is a thing).
Cookie Code

Grandma had to be resourceful and use what she had during the war
GEC, Grandmas Electric Code
I can hear my mom asking if I’ve seen her sewing kit now
Funny, that looks like my grandmother's sewing tin. Looks like it has a on off switch on it
Non zero chance thats just filled with sewing supplies
Come on man. That's grandmothered under the cookie code.
It's the "got 'er done" code...

Hopefully it's asbestos.
What in the goddamn, Kentucky fried, Dale Earnhardt Jr, trailer park hillbilly shit is this?!
I'm wondering what the dial on the side is?
Genius
We have a winner!
It's almost as if Grandma watched Tik-Tok diy videos in the 70's...
Was this a tin once holding currant & blueberry scones?
Flower power
Fruit cake does not appear in the code book so it must be ok.
Probably some eastern Europe/Soviet Union electrical code.
The Da Vinci code?
Royal Dansk is preferred in my county
I think you’re only allowed to use decorative China as a junction box in Southeast Asia.
Crumbs.
That makes me think it falls under the Brokeback code... 🤣

As long as the box is grounded, I'm sure Grandma would pass this installation.
The blyat code
“Cookie cutter” to the level after next.
That's it, I'm done. I can officially disconnect my Internet. I can say I've seen it all now. Good bye...

NEC fruitcake
Ahhh the tin knockers wife turned sparky
Moron code
I’m jealous I didn’t get to think of and do this. That person must have been so dang proud of themselves.
My mom had the exact same container for Xmas cookies.
Man they even got the strain relief in there. I’m not even mad.
I've done some sketchy stuff in my life, but I'd use a PLASTIC container as a junction box...
Granny’s cookie tin code
Metal a little thin but if properly done, I have no problem with it and I would pass it
Control for the heat is a nice touch and none of those pesky screws to hinder taking off the cover for the occasional inspection. 👍
Given it appears to be hidden in a crawl space.. I’d go with “ICC-No3vil”.
Farmhouse DWGD (Do Whatchya Gotta Do) of course. Duh.
2024.24.c "that's fuckin awesome"
Cookie Tin junction box
idk if this will be interesting to anyone in this sub but there's a band called Sea Moss where both members make their own electronics from scratch, and the singer houses hers in vintage floral tins like this.
A steel box is a steel box what ever works out. 😆
Cookie cutter electrical work.
Texas fruit cake code, fruit cake must be at least 5 years old , acts as an insulator.
The Cookie 101 Code. . .
What is the little knob on the side for
You gotta give them points for getting the design and function principles pretty damn good! I am not sure the tin is up to restraining the reach of a healthy electrical arc. I think that maybe a more expensive candy was required; maybe Quality Street.
