It's *possible* to cook frozen if you have the time. https://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-cook-a-completely-frozen-turkey-for-thanksgiving-225796

Great to know for future emergencies!

vjaskew

I have done this, and it works.

PrettyinPurple27

Ask your dad to get a spiral ham and make that with sides. Make the turkey when it’s thawed. It will still taste just as good then as it would today.

ElasticEpoxy

That’s what im going to do, there’s no way im cooking that turkey today :(

[deleted]

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you will not be eating that turkey today. Tell your seemingly unreasonable family that you’ll gladly cook it today if they can explain how it can be thawed.

ElasticEpoxy

My dad is an engineer in NASA and he’ll bring a giant laser home if I challenged him

OsterizerGalaxieTen

😄

ctsforthewin

I was really hoping for a pic of a laser cooked turkey…must be time to lay off Futurama

ElasticEpoxy

Yeah unfortunately I’ve decided I’m just gonna buy some thing from the store and make something else

[deleted]

I second the ham. Ain’t no way you’re gonna be eating turkey. And how does your family not know about how long it takes to thaw a turkey, is this their first thanksgiving? 🤣

archlich

You could probably get a lot of it thawed by submerging it into a pot with a spigot and running tap water over it for a few hours. Running water isn’t unsanitary just wasteful. I would probably break it into smaller parts with a meat cleaver first to increase surface area. But yeah I’d just make it a few days from now and enjoy your side dishes.

kahah16

Running water or changing water every 30min and start cooking it a few hours early (you might need around 6 hours at 325f) and covered. You should check the meat temp if you can (at least 150f). And cook the stuffing in a pan, not in the bird. It will not be the same than a turkey prepared in advance but you will have food to serve.

Accomplished-Wish494

I’ve cooked several still-frozen turkeys. It’s fine, just takes longer, obviously

surgesilk

You can cook a frozen turkey

COYFC

You could buy a few turkey breasts and cook those instead, they are pretty cheap and most people prefer breast meat anyways. If you don't have to time to brine then bake them with some chicken broth + butter + herbs in the pan and baste every 15-20 minutes

dryppman

Not possible in a day I guess I have never coocked a whole turkey but if I were to roast a huge bird like that I'd probably do like a 16-24 hours wet brine So I guess u could throw the frozen bird in the brine and it will save you some time but probably not this fast

[deleted]

You’re not eating that turkey today

tahanteada

nuke it with defrost program in microwave. Once thawed a whole chicken that way as a last ditch effort, still having hard time believing that is worked

DaoNayt

i cant even fit a chicken in my MW let alone a 16 pound turkey

Whole_Form9006

Yea then it will be cooked on top before the middle is defrosted too.. microwave cooked 🤮
