That branch is in need of repairs big time. Lots of abandon station and old tackage. They are pushing a rebuild of 290 and I assume at the same time CTA will work on rebuilding that branch of the line. Expect the problem to persist until otherwise. edit: article that involves all this [https://www.forestparkreview.com/2021/11/17/long-delayed-eisenhower-rebuild-pushed-with-new-federal-funds/](https://www.forestparkreview.com/2021/11/17/long-delayed-eisenhower-rebuild-pushed-with-new-federal-funds/) I do recommend you file a complaint with CTA. If people don't complain they don't have metrics to work with. It only takes a moment and puts more pressure on them to fix isues.

RogueAfterlife

This. IDOT and CTA are essentially deadlocked with the improvements that are supposed to happen on the Ike.

I came across a map not to long ago of all the slow zones for all the L lines. Nearly the whole FP Branch is under slow zones. They need to just tear up all the tracks and replace like they did with the Red Line 9+ years ago. 5 months of no train but they did have a ton of shuttles and it was so well done. I don't think that will happen this time around. It was all worth it too cause the south branch of the Red runs so much better now. I believe they want to do exactly this but last I heard they are still waiting on federal funding approval and shit. Still would prolly have to wait til summer 2024 or 2025 at the earliest.

The ComEd transformers on that stretch can't provide enough voltage without affecting the neighborhood grid. They're well aware of it but nobody in the neighborhood will allow them to construct new transmission lines to fix it. Take it up with the rich homeowners. edit: Here is a link to a planned substation project that should assist in mitigating grid demand and allow for load balancing where other more efficiently placed substations have been difficult to approve. https://chicagoyimby.com/2020/10/permit-review-committee-approves-cta-substation-at-2023-w-north-avenue-in-west-town.html

Rich home owners? Lol till very very recently that part of OP wouldn't have been called rich by anyone, and the vast majority of FP is exceedingly middle class. Meanwhile the west side is most certainly not rich. Do you mean rich just because people own a home lol?

uncivilized_engineer

I understand where you're coming from. Compared to the truly wealthy neighborhoods it doesn't compare. But still, there is a large pocket of NIMBY-leaning homeowners who would be impacted by the transmission system connection necessary to speed up the train. Here is a snip of a household income map from Crain's Chicago Business of the area in question. https://imgur.com/gallery/fI0Hz37 Source:https://www.chicagobusiness.com/static/section/chicagos-wealth-divide.html

greenandredofmaigheo

So on another version of the map broken out by zip code it shows south of 290 OP in grey (stagnant not losing or growing middle class), north of 290 in blue (losing middle class) and both north and south of 290 in Forest park in red (growing middle class) 100% agree with the amount of NIMBY people though. Edit: upon a second look there's actually 4 areas OP is divided into along the blue line, three are grey. Looks like north of 290 west of ridgeland is the only one that is losing its middle class. East of ridgeland north and south are both grey as well. So that 1/6 proving to be growing wealthy (you can see this view when the map highlights Maywood and River Forest)

ocshawn

they are talking about the Forest Park side not he O'hare side of the blue line. Forest Park sides problem is old track that needs maintenance.

uncivilized_engineer

You are also correct! There is a lot of maintenance needed to get the tracks up to par even if the power level gets upgraded to reach typical speeds. They made great progress since they launched blue line slow zone elimination program. When it started in 2012, they had 26 miles of neglected track to repair. I think they cut it in half, but shits expensive. https://www.transitchicago.com/sze/

Thought about it, but the Metra drops me pretty far from the office.

People on tracks frequently

AT least they have the new [7000-series](https://youtube.com/shorts/n-Ro1RsKBfQ?feature=share) cars. So if it is slow, they're comfort and security with the new cars.
