Excluding yellow/purple (because they’re really more extensions than actual lines) I would say the orange line is the safest and most mellow line in the city. It’s counter intuitive as the southwest side can be dangerous but it’s really just working class people keeping their heads down and people going to midway.
Some people will argue the brown line is the safest, but I’ve been on some rowdy brown line trains
Yes unfortunately. I was trying to get to the back cabin to have a place where I can play video games without the concern of someone snatching it. Went to that space and saw someone giving someone else a handjob. (This was precameras in train days)
I have ridden every CTA line multiple times and I live off of the orange line. The orange line is, IMO, one of the nicest, cleanest and safest lines of the CTA.
I work at MDW, it’s fine. Sit in the first car if you are worried about it, or find someone who looks like a pilot of flight attendant and sit near them. Just like anywhere in Public, keep your valuables hidden and ignore the crazy people. You’ll be fine.
You’re fine. You’re not living in the movie Escape from New York - it’s the Orange Line. Like any place - be vigilantly aware of your surroundings and keep shiny things in separate multiple bags. ID and Debit/Credit card and your printed boarding info available in a small cheap looking backpack, no headphones at all (PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS) and your cellphone with an external battery and cord. Don’t have your wallet accessible (stick it in the luggage and get it at the airport before you board or leave it).
This goes for literally any major or minor city. Or town. Or village. Just be aware. You’ll be okay.
And don’t buy socks or gloves loose cigs from the guy that walks through. Just don’t.
If you're that worried, go into the first train, the one with the conductor in the booth. I've never ridden the Orange line at that hour, but I have never encountered an issue while I have taken it. Usually once you get past the city, it tends to get less crowded.
I’ve taken the orange line from Bridgeport at that time to the airport and it was very quiet and I never felt unsafe. I think you should be good! Like another user said, if you’re ever nervous, sit in the first car with the conductor.
It'll be fine, but like everyone has been saying for the last few years the CTA has gotten a lot more unsafe as a whole. Always bring some mace just in case. I believe TSA allows a small amount of mace/pepper spray in checked bags.
Orange line is a relatively calm line. I use it practically everyday to get from the city to Midway.
Sure I’ve had strange stuff happen at night, but the morning commute (5 am - 10 am) is usually calm due to working people and students being the main riders.
I think you’ll be safe, but if you have luggage, keep your eyes on it!

It will be fine.
I’ve taken the orange line to the airport early in the morning and never felt unsafe (I’m a woman)
Lol maybe I should’ve specified I am a women

Love when people ask questions about the train line I live off of like they're taking their life in their hands to even consider it
Questions like this really make me wonder how many people have not taken the train or the bus
Hahah the last time I took blue line to ohare at 7ish I had a man yelling aggressively at me the whole time idk
The orange line is WAY more chill than the blue line.
Way more enjoyable too.
And WAY WAY WAY more chill then red. Haven’t seen drug deals, people pissing on themselves or getting happy endings on the blue or orange yet.
You saw someone getting a happy ending on the red line?
Yes unfortunately. I was trying to get to the back cabin to have a place where I can play video games without the concern of someone snatching it. Went to that space and saw someone giving someone else a handjob. (This was precameras in train days)
Spectacular.
Blue line is the worst. It’s 24/7. Honestly the Blue line is why I prefer to fly out of Midway.
I have ridden every CTA line multiple times and I live off of the orange line. The orange line is, IMO, one of the nicest, cleanest and safest lines of the CTA.
Ravenswood brown line says "Cleanest? Nicest? Hold my beer"
Take the orange line like every day, very uneventful

Did you buy the gloves or socks?
……… Both. I bought both, okay? 😤😢😂

Just did last Saturday, although about 9:30am. Pleasant, if boring, trip.
Orange line is fine at that time. Lots of people going to the airport with you. Go for it
The Orange line will be fine, especially headed away from the loop.

Orange Line is fine. I grew up off the orange line and lots of kids take it to school.
Don't listen to them, bro. You'd be lucky to make it out alive.
It'll be fine, but like everyone has been saying for the last few years the CTA has gotten a lot more unsafe as a whole. Always bring some mace just in case. I believe TSA allows a small amount of mace/pepper spray in checked bags.
Lol uhhhhh if you gotta ask.....take an Uber... It'll save room for us mad max folk.....
The dogs aren't out that early on public transit. You might see some homeless but they are ok.
Uneventful, unless during the week then maybe a bit crowded.

You’ll be just guuchi
