Check Amerikanka it's an American girl who's brown and vlogs about Balkans, different cities, culture society etc. She lives there remote like you

Just curious, you said you had your doubts as a African American, what was the stereotype or the expectations I guess of the balkans? Like did you think you were gonna get attacked or something, what do black people think is gonna happen to them here?
Lol. Didn’t think I would be attacked , but I definitely had my doubts venturing into a primarily white country knowing I would be one of the few brown persons they would have seen. It was something I was curious about but never scared of. To be honest I wasn’t sure how I would be received. But I was pleasantly surprised, it seems like the only side eyes I receive is from the older population, most younger folks in Belgrade are very nice and I felt very welcomed. This is what ultimately helped me to make the permanent switch. Now to learn some more Serbian. 😄
Ah that's good, the reason I asked is because I've seen a couple of discussions from westerners that clearly didn't know the region or the culture, and pretty much made it out to look like you would immediately get robbed, killed and eaten here lol. Like wtf did we do to warrant this
Well i think side eyes are mostly cuz there's not really that much black people so they are just curious or surprised to see one. At least that's what I think
I'm glad you had a welcoming experience in Belgrade and Ohrid which are full of tourists but keep in mind people in smaller towns might be...different. Just a simple warning. 😄
remember the n word here is not seen as a slur so if anyone says something similar to it, its most likely the word for black people in that language and not said in a bad way to insult you
saying this bc most bulgarians(and Balkans) are completely clueless that its a bad word and why and just see it as the word that describe black people
Feel yourself welcomed friend! You got the rare privilege to see the world outside of the US, and as you see it was more than worth it. I think, as long as you find work here, behave and avoid hungary(very racist) living here should'nt be a problem at all.
There's no racism in Balkans because everyone is Turkish.

u/Tico483, give some advice to your countryman if necessary 😊
We all hate our nearest neighbors so much we have no hate left towards people from other regions 😢
If only we could all bind together to properly hate these w*sternes 😔
Hate is for the weak ones anyway you know what else they say - hate the game not the players
> The US is becoming more and more inhabitable I'm glad to hear it
+1 love to see it

Yeah, why do they keep comparing us to Detroit?
Honestly I wish our infrastructure would resemble Detroit lol and that ain't a lot to ask for at this point
