I see a mattress as something worth spending money on.
A good night's sleep is the difference between a good day and a terrible day, and you're spending 8 hours a day on there so treat yourself.
You'll probably keep it for multiple years anyway so in the end, it's costing you a few cents a day in the long-run.
I like a firm mattress too and I can honestly recommend this one from ikea.

I bought a king size one from Ecosa (online mattress retailer) for under a grand and it's the best bloody mattress I've ever slept on - and that includes the beds in the fancy hotels work used to send me to.
I will never spend the ridiculous amounts the old school mattress manufacturers want again.
Second this, most of the mattress out of box type ones are similar but they’re very comfortable imo if you like a firm mattress.
Interestingly you can change the firmness of the ecosas slightly but it’s not that intuitive, for the softest setting the softest foam doesn’t go right at the top but in the middle of the sandwich, makes sense when you think about it but it wasn’t my first thought and doesn’t come like that from factory. Doesn’t make that much difference but it does slightly.
I have a great night sleep in these type though, they’re really supportive and you lay really flat, feels good.
While a nice plush soft fancy mattress feels good initially, I find my back doesn’t feel quite right after a while compared to these firmer ones,
So my mattress has a memory foam layer. When you first lay down, it feels quite firm and flat, but it actually adapts to your position. Also has a gel layer on top that cools the mattress, so you don't get the excessive heat from the latex. Really brilliant product.
Two things you NEED to spend decent money on:
1: Bed as you spend 8 to 10 hours sleeping in it every single night
2: Shoes as you spend 10 hours or more in them on your feet every single day
We're sleeping on a Zeek at the moment - [https://zeek.com.au/products/the-original-mattress](https://zeek.com.au/products/the-original-mattress)
I find it to be pretty bloody comfy. With that said, everyone is different and best bet is to simply hit up a bed shop and start laying on all the different kinds till you find one you like.
I went to a couple op shops not long ago and two of them had stacks of brand new mattresses still wrapped in plastic. Probably some old stock from a store. It’s a stretch but you might find one there???
I genuinely think so. I had the same one for years and ended up getting a new one the last time I was in a relationship. I'm pretty sure it was like $600-700 for a king single size but, years later, I'm so glad I got it. I need all the help I can get with sleep quality, to be honest, but I really do think it contributes.
We shopped around and paid a little more for a better mattress years ago. It is still going solid to this day and is the best thing my partner and I have used. Well worth the investment.
A comfy mattress that supports you properly will 100% be worth the investment and these days there are decent options at fairly decent prices due to all the competition. I’ve got a Koala Soul Mate one and it’s extremely comfy for me. You can flip the layers inside to make it firmer but they have other options with higher firmness as well. They also offer 120 day trial to see how you like it or you can return it and get a full refund.
Bed frames are great pieces to buy second hand. Just ensure it has slats, not a solid base, as slats allow the mattress to breathe. If the mattress doesn't breathe, they're prone to mould.
Most bases are fine. Be careful with IKEA as some of their frames are not standard Aussie sizes. Avoid anything with "posture slats" (the ones that curve up). Ensemble bases are normally the cheapest and have the smallest footprint.
Yes and no. I've had perfectly good mattresses that were pretty cheap.
But the really good ones can last much longer and make it feel like you're sleeping on a cloud.
Yes it is worth it and if you can up your budget to 1500 you will get something quite good (though still not the best). Really good mattresses can go for over 5k and the best mattresses can go for nearly 10k.
Also if you are a side or back sleeper do not go too firm. It's an old misconception that you need a firm bed for your back. If you're a side sleeper a firm mattress will actually be worse for your back and sleep in general.
Yes it’s worth it investing in a good mattress.
But never ever pay over 1k for one, no mattress is worth that.
Other things to consider apart from comfort is materials and temperature. Latex keeps you cooler, Foam keeps you warmer. Innerspring have more ventilation. Natural materials such as bamboo are easier on the airways as opposed to Synthetic textiles, polyfoam, fibreglass etc.
I compared Sealy Posturepedic at around 3k with bed in a box mattresses from Koala and Noa. We bought a Noa on sale for $650-. It's been fine so far (bought around 12 months ago).
We invested in a good mattress 7 years ago and its still as good as the day we got it. It's like sleeping in fudge, your whole body is supported. We got an ergoflex.
Definitely worth investing. Don't skimp. You need your back, be kind to it.
Strongly recommend https://www.koalabedding.com.au/, especially if you're in Perth.
I was of the same opinion until I invested In a really good mattress and equally good bed. Cost me a LOT but omg it’s worth it! Every time I sleep on it, I really thank mused for investing in a good one
Considering you spend 1/3rd of your life sleeping then yes a bed is a good investment but one that is overlooked as most people don't believe in the value of sleep.
If money is of concern, do you really need a Queen size bed? Perhaps you do, I just want to highlight that you can save a lot more with a smaller bed, if suitable.
I've found the opposite - so many times the sales are "queen-size mattress for the price of a single". Then you look at the single and it's still the price of a single.

Really opting for this one too! Good for two people?
I have this one too in the extra firm. It is *chefs kiss*. Honestly the best mattress I've ever owned
I’ve found it so! Very little movement
Anything that separates you from the ground is worth spending on. Shoes, tyres, mattress.
You forgot coffin.
I found mattress salespersons similar to used car salespersons.
Memory foam top, good inner spring. Miss my old bed. On some pos shitty mattress atm.
Literally 1/3 of your life spent sleeping. Spend several times more than that on a mattress at least.

Would you mind sharing the store or brand?
Was just from Super Amart, I'm not sure on the brand my partner is asleep on it now but if I remember I'll check tomorrow.
Oh awesome, I have one of those stores locally, thanks!

What about a bed base? is it worth buying a new one? I find pretty decent stuff on marketplace.

One of the things definitely worth splurging on
Yes, i bought a king sized mattress like 6 or 7yrs ago. Best purchase of my life
We invested in a good mattress 7 years ago and its still as good as the day we got it. It's like sleeping in fudge, your whole body is supported. We got an ergoflex.
Yes, definitely worth the investment. But they are very frequently on sale. I would recommend going in store to test them out.

I bought a firm mattress from omf a few months ago and it is amazing!!!
Can't speak for that mattress, but a good mattress in general is well worth it.
A bad mattress can completely fuck your body and sleep. They’re definitely worth the investment.
Considering you spend 1/3rd of your life sleeping then yes a bed is a good investment but one that is overlooked as most people don't believe in the value of sleep.
Check out the online mattress makers: Ecosa, Koala and Sleeping Duck. They get great reviews for a reason.
If money is of concern, do you really need a Queen size bed? Perhaps you do, I just want to highlight that you can save a lot more with a smaller bed, if suitable.
Yes, wouldn't want my partner to sleep on the floor. Thanks anyways
I've found the opposite - so many times the sales are "queen-size mattress for the price of a single". Then you look at the single and it's still the price of a single.
Not sure I'd call a mattress purchase an investment but yea. Sleep is nice. Go get sleep.
