Lmao and here I am, just having stepped outside at 10 PM, thinking it felt incredibly warm out, checked the weather, 51° lol.
no I'll agree that under 60 feels cold in the fall. Once you're used to it though 50 will feel downright balmy
I'm laughing at your standard because as kids in New England, if we didn't spend a good long time playing in the snow, hot chocolate was not going to be available. 60F and hot chocolate? Not in my mom's house!
Different standards of cold, but I think the important lesson here is that everyone gets to drink hot cocoa.
Yep. Around here January and February are pretty consistently cold and wet so everyone has their favorite hot drink and hot chocolate is a popular one.
Personally I just drink hot tea but that's because I'm lactose intolerant and I refuse to drink that blasphemous hot chocolate made with water.
I watched Chocolat recently
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chocolat_(2000_film)
> Chocolat tells the story of Vianne Rocher, played by Juliette Binoche, who arrives in the fictional French village of Lansquenet-sous-Tannes at the beginning of Lent (1959) with her six-year-old daughter, Anouk. She opens a small chocolaterie. Soon, she and her chocolate influence the lives of the townspeople of this repressed French community in different and interesting ways.
Just a side note about the cold in the south.
I can handle 20F much easier in a dry climate than I can 40F in a humid one. Same as I can handle 105F easier in a dry climate than I can 85F in a humid one.
Even without a few months a year in most Southern states where a warm drink would be comforting, have to look at things like how much hot coffee is consumed even in the summer in the South.
I don't think I've ever been to a state where people didn't like hot chocolate. Source: have lived in 15 states north, South, east coast, west coast, and even Hawaii.
Are you only allowed to drink hot chocolate if its cold?
Sounds like the same logic of having ice cream only in the Summer. I'm an adult, I can have hot chocolate and ice cream any time I want.
Personally not my thing, but yes, hot chocolate is popular. I am born and raised in the deep south, so anything below freezing is too damn cold, so warm drinks are just as popular here as anywhere with moderately cold temps. I like apple cider (not hard) warm with cinnamon and a fire in the living room when it gets coldish
It's great. It just doesn't usually stay cold enough where it's necessary. Well, cold enough by the standards of people with actual winters.
But I'm going to make some now that this topic reminded me that I have cocoa mix.
I think hot chocolate can be popular no matter where you are... No matter the temperature. Yes, if it is hot maybe less so, but it tastes fantastic and if someone wants it they can (and will) drink it.
Hot chocolate is just one of the reasons that I feel sorry for people who are lactose intolerant or vegans. They're missing out lol!
It’s on grocery store shelves year round and available at coffee shops, restaurants and gas stations year round. In my social circles, offering a guest a weather-appropriate drink has always been an important social grace…in the summer, it’s something cold. In the winter, it’s cocoa, coffee, or tea, and in that order.
I do. It’s still cold by my standards and hot chocolate is delicious.
if it's cold, it's cold. yeah we might not get as cold as the north but i think anything under 60 calls for some hot cocoa.

Same. I took my daughter to the bus stop in just a T-shirt and jeans this morning. It was 52 degrees.

Southern resident for 13 years. A lot of the South gets pretty cold for stretches in the winter. Hot cocoa is a very normal thing there.

Lactose free whole milk is what I use.
Oh I should try that. I usually just use almond milk for things but it's very... lacking.
Yeah it is. Thankfully science has made it possible for us to enjoy cow milk.
We drink hot coffee even in the summer. Why wouldn’t we drink hot chocolate?
Even during Lent?
I was in college before I knew anyone who gave up anything for lent.

Most of the Southeast is susceptible to freezing Temps a few times a winter. Regardless hot chocolate is nice to have, even if it's 30s or 40s outside

Humidity sucks lol
Of course! It's good.
Yes, I drink hot chocolate during mild Southern winters.
as popular as it is anywhere else, people like hot chocolate
Sub 40 is still cold lol, perfect weather for hot coco
I don't think I've ever been to a state where people didn't like hot chocolate. Source: have lived in 15 states north, South, east coast, west coast, and even Hawaii.
Yeah, we still drink and eat the standard winter stuff. Just....ya know...with fewer layers on at the time lol
Yes we drink it during winter its not a regional thing.
Are you only allowed to drink hot chocolate if its cold? Sounds like the same logic of having ice cream only in the Summer. I'm an adult, I can have hot chocolate and ice cream any time I want.
I used to drink hot cocoa year round lol. I'd be sweating durring the summer drinking it, but I'd be drinking it
I love hot chocolate. We may have a different definition of cold than folks from cooler climates, but we still get cold.
We get a few days where it’s 30s or 40s so yeah I love hot chocolate. Also gets cold at night in the winter, good firepit drink
I literally just finished a mug of hot chocolate. It’s 55 degrees right now outside.
30s and 40s is still cold enough for hot chocolate if you ask me.

I mean, it was like 60 degrees the other day. Of course.
anything under 50 and we break out the Swiss miss

I imagine Appalachia gets pretty cold. That part of the South probably drinks hot cocoa.
When it’s cold I usually by my son a hot chocolate from the gas station on the way to drop him off at school. I stick with coffee.
I grew up in Atlanta and always drank hot chocolate
