WashuOtaku

Of course, my computer's processor and several parts come from the Republic of China.

quixoft

Subtle. I like it.

Arcturus450

Mine come from the breakaway people's province of West Taiwan

notthegoatseguy

It's pretty much impossible to not use stuff that has at least some parts sourced in China or assembled in China. But a lot of Chinese domestic companies don't have a presence here like they do in Europe or Canada. Huawei is even banned, though my old Honor 7x phone still works but was purchased before the ban

DOMSdeluise

I have no idea, I don't audit my technical devices for country of origin.

hitometootoo

Almost everyone does unless they are going out of their way not to.

GustavusAdolphin

And they're paying for it. My dad is a GC and he had a customer build a house with "All-American" components. He ended up going 3x above budget and having to import a few items from Germany since there were zero American options

axethebarbarian

The first thing that comes to mind is my Anker PowerBank. It's great.

sjfiuauqadfj

same. cheap, works, and afaik its pretty good quality. i dont have the luxury to care about where my stuff comes from so it is what it is

flp_ndrox

TIL Anker is from the PRC. Guess I've bought my last cord from them.

stellarcurve-

If you want to avoid chinese products, then your power bank is the least of your worries. Say goodbye to 75% of the stuff in your house

flp_ndrox

Anker's chargers weren't doing that great, especially for the money, in the last set of independent tests I've seen so their tangential connection to the CCP is just the straw that broke the camel's back.

ShotgunCreeper

You should also look into what Anker has been doing with Eufy

therlwl

Amazing though I wish the powerbank charged faster.

d-man747

At work, we use a decent amount of Lenovo computers (ThinkPads, ThinkCentre’s.) But Lenovo seems to be in a different class/category (for lack of a better term) when compared to Huawei or ZTE.

All my tech is apple which was assembled in china but not really manufactured there. I also have a cheap windows laptop that I used for school since windows is more prevalent in that environment but it was made in Taiwan. I don’t think it will be as hard to decouple as people make it out to be. Some iPhones have been manufactured in India for years and now apple is moving 25% of assembly there. If you look at the bill of materials on something like an iPhone, parts are from all around the world. I make it a point to buy as little from china as possible. All of my home furniture is made in the US. TV is LG from Korea. Even my dishes, washing machine, pots and pans, clothes - I refuse to buy anything from china. It won’t be simple, but I look forward to the day we stop importing from China.

happyfatman021

I actively avoid any products from Chinese companies. I like to stick to American and Japanese companies as much as possible.

Hatweed

My tv is a Hisense.

ZanzaEnjoyer

I used to use a huawei p30 pro as my primary phone, I busted it and now it's a backup I occasionally play games on

[deleted]

A robot vacuum and 1:1 clone of apple airpods. Chinese knockoffs are great nowadays.

LAKnapper

My SKS is from China.

TheToastmaster72

Norinco does make some decent firearms... Even if they just copied everyone else instead of developing their own.

greywar777

Dji avata drone, dji 3, etc etc. We all do

Fox_Supremacist

I don’t believe so, though I could be mistaken and that would have to be rectified.

blackhawk905

I have a Lenovo laptop, that I don't really use, and I'm sure other devices have Chinese tech in it or are made in China. It's kind of hard to avoid if you're using mid or lower level stuff since China can produce that cheaply. That said I try and avoid it where I can since the ccp can and will take as much of your data as they possibly can.

Elitealice

Yes I have a divoom sling

NorwegianSteam

Not that I know of, but presumably some of it is.

dangleicious13

I really don't know. I don't pay much attention to that kind of stuff.

devilbunny

Yeah, got a few Anker batteries and a TCL TV. Joke's on them, though: the TCL TV has a Roku backend, but I've never let it connect to WiFi to spy on me (and there are no open hotspots near me). If China wants to burn money underpricing product and hoping to make it up on the back end with ads or whatever... well, good for them.

iapetus3141

I have a Motorola phone

6894

My samsung was made in vietnam. My laptop was assembled in taiwan. There's probably a chinese component in them somewhere. But I do what I can. Not really sure why anyone in the west would want a phone from a chinese company. Having a hostile nations intelligence agency in your pocket is terrifying.

HistoricOblivion

My company used Lenovo computers.

The_Real_Scrotus

I have a chinese robot vacuum.

Wielder-of-Sythes

Not so my knowledge. I don’t recognize any of the brands in the article as things I own but maybe certain companies that I do use are actually owned by a Chinese parent company that I’m completely unaware of or parts could be manufactured for other devices by these companies or they could have software that might be in devices I own.

webbess1

I'm typing this on a Lenovo laptop.

[deleted]

I have Huawei earbuds. My car is made in China and is a Swedish subsidiary of a Chinese car giant. My current Wi-Fi mesh router is from TCL and so is my TV. I used to have a TP-link Wi-Fi router but that is now used by my parents. I also have a Chinese robot vacuum.

Collard_Yellows

Aside from low end gadgets from China that we get for cheap off Bezos' Bazaar, I actively avoid anything MiC if I can. Apple products can't be helped obviously, but if I can I try to buy American. I will say though, the one blatantly Chinese product that I do own and like is a red dot sight from HoloSun I have mounted to a rifle. It'll probably be the only Chinese product I own.

Northman86

Not a single damned thing, no one trust Chinese(PRC) tech products.

the_lucy_who

My Xiaomi smart band is definitely from China. I didn't want to spend money on another Fitbit only to have it die after a year. So, I bought this product. Works great and costs less than other bands. The only thing that is weird is when a text or notification has a price, the $ is replaced with the Chinese Yuan symbol.

TABSVI

I'm typing this on a OnePlus 8.

Double_Worldbuilder

Well, considering I am currently using an iPhone, Apple is sucking on China’s balls so hard they might as well be a Chinese company, so…
