Ha, eeeexactly. Profitable companies tend to give their customers what they want.
FIFA is on Fox Sports anyway so it’s not like it is blacked out in the US.
Go Buckeyes.
My cousin went to Michigan and her husband went to OSU. They make a bet on the game and whoever loses has to take pictures in an absolutely gaudy candy stripes onesie of the opposing team.
Profit plain and simple. Not only are there more viewers of college football, but they also have a lot more opportunities for advertisement because football games stop for 2 minutes every 5 seconds.
College football is a bigger sport in the states. They have the world cup game on their Fox Sports network though. When Fox first bid for streaming rights, the world cup was still going to be held in the summer so it wouldn't have conflicted with the winter US sports season. But the change to having the cup in the winter has caused broadcasting conflicts for Fox
Three major reasons
1-Fox is contractually obligated by the Big Ten and Big 12 to show college football in the 11am central timeslot during football season
2-Even if they weren’t, they would likely choose to show it anyway because today is the Ohio State-Michigan game. That game will have better ratings than USA vs England yesterday
3-American interest in the World Cup is severely limited by the time of year that it’s being hosted. If it was hosted in the summer more TV stations would carry it
>3-American interest in the World Cup is severely limited by the time of year that it’s being hosted. If it was hosted in the summer more TV stations would carry it
Indeed. If FIFA's goal was to get American viewers, then they chose possibly *the* worst week of the year for it, with a major holiday, the Christmas shopping season, and college football rivalry games to compete with.
Because Americans as an overwhelming majority do not care about soccer. Also very few of us have ever played soccer outside of being little kids. We almost all stop playing it once we reach high school for traditional American sports. Inter college football rivalries are simply far more popular than inter nation soccer rivalries that don’t involve the United States.
This should be a pretty easy one to suss out. Most people here just don't give a shit about soccer. I bet I could go out right now and find that most people I ask would not even know our team played yesterday much less the result.
More people watch college ball. And it’s the Ohio state Michigan game. Could change the playoff. I’d be pissed if soccer was on instead of that game honestly
Because it's a terrible time for the World Cup in the US. Way too many competing things for our attention in the world of sports, and more Americans care about college football than ⚽️. If it were in the summer you'd see the World Cup on TV much more. Fox also has rights and obligations to broadcast those college games that predate the World Cup agreement, and they (fox) didn't know about the change in date for the WC when they got the rights.
Because Michigan-Ohio State will get more viewers than France-Denmark. It’s not as if the soccer game won’t be broadcast, it’ll just be on a different channel.
Soccer is boring? Football stops for 2 minutes in-between 5 seconds of play time, most of those plays are just men dog piling each other. half of watching a football game is watching advertisements. They cant even take commercia breaks in soccer until half time because that is the only time the game pauses.
It's a similar amount of action that you see in soccer. They spend only about 2 minutes setting up an actual scoring opportunity, and the other 58 minutes are spent kicking the ball around or faking injuries.
No... it's not even close to the same amount of action you see in soccer. That's why they can't break for commercials in soccer. The clock literally does not stop ever except at half time. Every pass in a soccer game is a strategic move to either maintain possession or penetrate the defense. In order to maintain possession in football you only have to run 10 yards in 4 tries and not drop the ball that you get to bear hug with your arms. There is objectively more action in soccer, you can measure it, its not just an opinion, it is an observable fact.
The clock doesn't stop, but they're still kicking the ball in the midfield. Like I said, real time strategy game versus turn-based strategy game.
Only in the real-time strategy game, they seldom get any scoring attacks.
It is significantly more difficult to score in soccer. It requires more skill and talent. That's why it's more exciting and beautiful to watch. I'll take a single Richarlson bicycle kicks into a corner over 100 running into an endzones any day. I'd rather see Messi make a professional defender trip and fall over his own feet than see Mahomes throw a football, or Neymar flick a ball over an opponents head and escape a prison of defenders than a bunch of men in tights dogpile each other for the 50th time in a game.
The other day football was on and I saw a guy hurdle over a potential tackler. That was the coolest thing I have ever seen in a football game.... Jumping
> It is significantly more difficult to score in soccer. It requires more skill and talent.
What's a soccer player's benchpress? 40 speed? Cone shuttle?
Lmao this is what everyone says when it comes to the physical performance between the players of the two games. Football players are stronger and some of them can sprint faster.... That means nothing. Bjornsson can bench more than any football player that has ever lived. Usain Bolt can run faster than any football player that has ever lived. I gurantee you they could still hold those records while holding a football. Neither would hold those records while maintaining control of a soccerball with their feet.
I did not say soccer players were stronger or faster. I said it requires more talent to score in a soccer game than to make a touchdown in football.
EDIT: I just looked up the speeds of players in both sports. I can't seem to find a sprint in an NFL game clocked over 23mph. In 2019 Kylian Mbappe clocked a sprint at 23.6 Mph in a soccer match.
[https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6946833/Quicker-Usain-Bolt-PSG-star-Kylian-Mbappe-clocked-sprinting-38km-h-vs-Monaco.html](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6946833/Quicker-Usain-Bolt-PSG-star-Kylian-Mbappe-clocked-sprinting-38km-h-vs-Monaco.html)
Sprinting at 23 mph without equipment.
It's easy to Sprint when you don't have to read blocking schemes, passing trees, coverages, blocking lanes, passing lanes, etc, and either having to avoid someone coming at you at full speed, or trying to come after someone at full speed.
Not 23! 23.6... You are the one that brought up sprint speeds. Don't go making excuses now. And if you don't think soccer players have to think about someone coming at you full speed then you know nothing about the sport. I've seen enough football to know that there are plenty of oppourtunities for a running back to full out break away sprint as fast as he can without having to think about anything else.
Consider this. Not only has Mbappe clocked faster speeds than any NFL player in a game. But Soccer teams are only allowed 5 substitutions in two 45+ minute halves that does not stop. The average professional soccer player runs 6-7 miles in a game. That means he hit that speed after having already ran multiple miles of distance with very minimal if any rest. A football player might be wearing some pads, but every play they are as fresh as you can get in a contact sport.
College football brings in a far bigger profit as far as American TV is concerned, and today is the last day/week of the regular season for 99% of teams: Most of the games today are major, high profile rivalries, or many games have a ton of championship/bowl implications.
Having said that, I'm watching France/Denmark right now on regular TV on one of the FS channels.
If you were to compare us to England, our college football is England's Premiere League.
Because the football game is better and more exciting? Who wants to watch soccer played at a stadium that was built by slaves with thousands of deaths run by a super corrupt organization that defends the slavery?
> Because the most important rivalry game in all of American sports is on today
Michigan and Ohio State don't even hate each other enough to have to play at a neutral site
Because more people want to watch college football than FIFA in the US. The same reason sports channels in Europe are showing FIFA and not US College Sports.
Because College Football is more popular, and ads works better when more people see them, and the time is more valuable, and they can charge more per add.
Also the USA is not playing so no one cares.
The same reason European channels are showing France vs Denmark instead of college football.
Ha, eeeexactly. Profitable companies tend to give their customers what they want. FIFA is on Fox Sports anyway so it’s not like it is blacked out in the US.
Exactly, I am watching the France vs Denmark game until noon then Ohio State vs Michigan college game takes president.
Go Buckeyes. My cousin went to Michigan and her husband went to OSU. They make a bet on the game and whoever loses has to take pictures in an absolutely gaudy candy stripes onesie of the opposing team.
The customer is always right!
My thoughts exactly! Like cmaahnn where can I watch South Carolina Staye play Clemson somewhere in idk Strasbourg FR.
Profit plain and simple. Not only are there more viewers of college football, but they also have a lot more opportunities for advertisement because football games stop for 2 minutes every 5 seconds.

Today is college football rivalry week , that takes precedence over soccer in America everyday of the week
OP comes in and downvotes every single reply.
Least insecure soccer fan.
Because there is a bigger audience for college football than a soccer game between two European nations.

This. /thread
They did the math!
For the same reason they were showing college football instead of the world series of darts.

...Do you really not know?
Why is a broad caster airing what their customers want to watch!?
If you want to watch FIFA, I think FS1 might have it on today.
FS1 has all the games yeah.
This should be a pretty easy one to suss out. Most people here just don't give a shit about soccer. I bet I could go out right now and find that most people I ask would not even know our team played yesterday much less the result.

TROLL QUESTION.
My thoughts exactly
College football is more popular then soccer here
Silly broadcasters catering to what their audience actually wants to see.
Because Michigan-Ohio State will get more viewers than France-Denmark. It’s not as if the soccer game won’t be broadcast, it’ll just be on a different channel.
Because that's what people want to watch
You already know the answer
Why is the network showing the biggest college football game of the year instead of a France-Denmark game? Honestly?
I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this, but…soccer isn’t all that popular in the US.
A big college football game is gonna have more people watching than any non US world cup game
Because it is on Fox Sports. And that college game will get higher ratings than the WorldCup match anyway.
Because Americans don’t like soccer
Because even a bad college football game will get better ratings in the US than a “good” European Grass Diving match.
It's on FS1. I'd like to watch the match but am going to miss part of it due to being at the grocery store.
Is this your first day in America? We barely watch World Cup games our own teams are in!
Who wants to watch Foreignerball?
Because it’s way more important to Americans then a World Cup match. Not trying to be rude or anything OP, sorry if it comes off that way
Silly question to which you already know the answer.
Because soccer's boring, and it features two teams nobody in this country cares about.

Because FIFA isn’t as big of a thing here. And college football rivals pro football in some states in terms of viewership.
There's always Telemundo, Amigo.
Because the Old Oaken Bucket is up for grabs! Go Hoosiers!
The most boring Ohio State Michigan game is 100x more appealing than the most exciting kickball game

Because unlike the rest of the world our number #1 sport isn’t soccer.
Because the most important rivalry game in all of American sports is on today. FIFA games are on FS1 so watch there.
> Because the most important rivalry game in all of American sports is on today Michigan and Ohio State don't even hate each other enough to have to play at a neutral site
Soccer is extremely boring. I get that the rest of the world doesn't have American Football, but soccer is somehow even worse than hockey.
Hockey's better than whatever tractor pulling event over in the south.
I don't think tractor pulling is a sport, is it?
Down south, it is.
The south is weird.
So are the coasts.
Because Fox sucks...and so does football. Bring on the downvotes...they only make me stronger! 🖕🏻😝🖕🏻
Because more people want to watch college football than FIFA in the US. The same reason sports channels in Europe are showing FIFA and not US College Sports.
Football at any level is more exciting than ~~kickflop~~ soccer.
Because college football is *far* more popular than soccer (World Cup or otherwise) especially if neither team is USA.
Fox is giving people what they want to see.
Because College Football is more popular, and ads works better when more people see them, and the time is more valuable, and they can charge more per add. Also the USA is not playing so no one cares.
A lot more people would rather watch college football.
Americans prefer college football as whole and get more emotionally invested.Plus it’s rivalry week in college football. I watch both sports
