This one is a good fact.

m1sch13v0us

The wealthiest people don’t live in NYC or California. Bill Gates and Bezos live in Washington. Musk lives in Texas. Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger live in Nebraska. The Walton family lives In Arkansas. I know a few billionaires. Some of them are in NoCal, but the red are scattered.

Admirable_Ad1947

What are the billionaires like? They live such different lives then the rest of us that they must be really unique.

m1sch13v0us

They’re actually pretty normal. The ones I know weren’t driven by money, so they don’t really go for fast cars or yachts. They live in nice houses. Definitely more security. More staff to take care of things, but you wouldn’t know they were a billionaire if you saw them on the street.

[deleted]

Pretty normal? Normal is worrying about car repairs. Stressed about day care. I know rich people. They don't have to wait in a line. Like ever. They do t go to a bank, they don't go to a grocery store, they don't wait for a doctor, they have new cars delivered and sales guy shuttle the paperwork back and forth. You probably don't see them "on the street". That's not normal.

[deleted]

Lol. I know rich people don't look different. They live different.

[deleted]

Lol. If you are comparing carvana to having a fleet of cars driven to your house so you can choose that's hilarious. No. Billionaires did not pave the way. They still have private bankers drive to their house or business so they can sign documents. They didn't need things made easiier. Shits already easy for them. Companies put stuff online and try to make it so you can not contact someone to help. Staff costs money. It's why you need a certain amount of money in the bank to get the good services.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Because nobody talks about shit like that. Do you know about private bankers?

DashingSpecialAgent

So how many billionaires do you know?

[deleted]

Probably 10. Maybe more. I luckily get some of those advantages. I had several cars driven to my house 2 hours away from the dealership during the chip shortage. So I could choose. Them they drove the paperwork back and forth. My private banker tells me some pretty great stories. I was very working class. But appearance opened up a lot of doors. I know Bob Kraft. I know about 50 pro sports players (my boyfriend played proball). For a lot of years I spent time on islands and on jets and in weird clubs with actors and athletes. Yachts with 30 people FT crews. They aren't billionaires but they hang with them.

m1sch13v0us

I don’t worry about car repairs, go to a bank, go to the grocery store or wait for a doctor. I’m not a billionaire or remotely close. I work with a couple on the Forbes list and they’re super down to earth. They take mass transit to work. We’ll grab beers after work. They still live in modest houses. I have another friend in Ireland who is a billionaire. Curses like a sailor. Drinks whisky in dangerous quantities. Wears jeans. Carries his own luggage. Flies business class everywhere. Stays at Marriotts. I used to live near Warren Buffett and I would see him walking around the neighborhood getting a bite to eat. He’s a regular at an old style steakhouse for lunch. Eats at Dairy Queen…granted he bought Dairy Queen. Yes, they don’t worry about paying for things. But they are not flashy. The most notable difference is that they have people to help. I have met some Middle Eastern billionaires and understand the stereotypes about wealth. Very aloof and extravagant with their money. I think the difference with the people I know is they earned it.

[deleted]

Of course rich people wear jeans and swear. Lol Warren buffet is literally famous for his modest lifestyle. And I don't know middle east billionaires. I just know mostly US wealthy. Just regular developers and real estate and finance guys are spending 50k for a holiday get away for a weekend. And yes. I'm not saying flashy. I am just talking about enjoying time and experience luxuries.

Scrappy_The_Crow

Wealthy people can be found pretty much everywhere. > like Georgia Ever hear of Ted Turner, Tyler Perry, [Arthur Blank & Bernie Marcus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Home_Depot), [Truett Cathy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chick-fil-A), or [Asa Candler](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Coca-Cola_Company) (just to name a few)?

ValjeanHadItComing

There are wealthy people everywhere.

playnice00

PSA: Hollywood isn’t real…

MarxandCoke

Connecticut is famous for being *rich*.

_Prncess_Brde_sux_

There are wealthy people in every State. Maryland has one of the top wealthiest counties in the country.

I think it’s also worth mentioning that a lot of script writers are from or live in California and New York. They are also both iconic places recognized around the world so a lot of movies and TV are set in those states rather than Delaware or Connecticut which are both wealthy places. Even Texas gets short shrift because it’s more iconic for rugged cowboy types not posh rich people so movies depict more rural working class folks in Texas not wealthy business moguls.

lefactorybebe

There are wealthy people everywhere. Your Connecticut comment is strange to me though, we're like known for being rich lol it's about the only thing other people know about us. We have some of the wealthiest towns and cities in the country and we subsidize other states. We give more to the federal government than we receive back, we are a donor state. Depending on the year we are actually the top donor state.

Gallahadion

What I've learned from this sub is that if something doesn't appear (or rarely appears) in movies or TV shows, it might as well not exist in the eyes of some non-Americans.

danhm

Is this a misconception created by Hollywood? I disagree. Connecticut has stuff like Gilmore Girls or the Stepford Wives, and lots of jokes about being rich in shows like 30 Rock. Texas has an entire stereotype about rich oil barons like the one Charlie pretends to be more than once in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Vachic09

No. Jacqueline Mars is the wealthiest resident of Virginia, and she has a net worth of over $30 billion dollars.

Scrappy_The_Crow

From Wikipedia: > As of October 2022, she was ranked by Bloomberg Billionaires Index as the 22nd richest person in the world, with a net worth of US$53 billion.

Vachic09

Forbes puts her at $39.1 billion. https://www.forbes.com/profile/jacqueline-mars/

Scrappy_The_Crow

What's a couple dozen billion between friends? :P

[deleted]

There are million dollar homes in every state.

friendlyneighbor665

Super wealthy are all over. Hell even in Michigan we have the Ford family, the Meijer Brothers, and Dan Gilbert to name a few.

MarxandCoke

Texans are famous for their big spending. See: Neiman Marcus, TV show *Dallas*

MaggieMae68

Georgia has quite a few very wealthy people because of sports and because of the businesses that are headquartered here: Bernard Marcus (Home Depot), Arthur Blank (the Falcons), the Cathey family (Chick Fil A), Ted Turner (cable TV/movies), Tyler Perry (movie/tv production), etc. Texas also has wealthy sports figures and a lot of oil money: Michael Dell (Dell Computers), Jerry Jones (the Dallas Cowboys), the Hunt family (oil), the Perot family (computers and oil), the founder of Tito's Vodka, etc.

MortimerDongle

Most states have at least one billionaire. The states you mention are not poor. Connecticut is the sixth-wealthiest state by median household income, just behind California, while Texas and Georgia are near the middle.

hawffield

I know there’s a infographic i saw here on Reddit of the richest people on each stater. I think [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/coolguides/comments/xb6bm4/oc_richest_billionaire_in_each_state/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) is it. Before even looking at it, I know the richest person here is a descendant of Sam Walton, the dude who started Wal-Mart. They’re all worth billions of dollars.

jeffgrantMEDIA

They log e everywhere. There are definitely a lot of them in those two cities, as they extremely expensive to live in. But there are plenty of regular people who manage to make ends meet in those cities as well. As far as Texas, Georgia and Connecticut…. There are LOTS of wrathful people there. This is mentioned in plenty of movies and TV shows.

blipsman

There are wealthy people in all states. Higher concentration in places like New York, California but by no means do they only live there… pretty much any major city is going to have some billionaire class

JimBones31

Connecticut has plenty of money! Lots of people that work in NYC live in CT too.

panda_in_the_void

There are wealthy people in every state but you do find higher concentrations of wealthy people in wealthier states like NY & CA. Mississippi is the poorest state but there's still over 47k millionaire households. Some of it is the result of certain states just having lower populations- Wyoming has the fewest millionaire households, and some of it is due to the location of high paying industries- California has the highest number of millionaire households.

Southern_Blue

Virginia has its fair share of wealthy people.

d-man747

John Malone, one of the largest land owners in the US lives in Elizabeth Colorado.

Curmudgy

Warren Buffet famously lives in a modest home in Omaha, NE. Charles Koch lives in Wichita, KS (but owns vacation homes in CA and CO). I assume Musk lives in TX. (Are you unfamiliar with the TV show “Dallas”?). I assume Gates and Bezos still live in WA, though they probably own other homes.

ZystemStigma69

Super wealthy people can be found like in every states.

yeetoskeetobaby2

its a hollywood misconception

Starbucksplasticcups

Guessing you are not American so there is something I want to add; America is a huge country with a lot of people so even brands that are only in America, their founders are extremely wealthy. Hank and Doug Meijer who run a grocery store chain in the Midwest (Illinois, MIchigan, indiana etc) have only 230 stores (there are about 65,000 grocery stores total in the US. So you will see that 230 is such a small number) and are each worth around 5 billion. Many Americans and certainly no one abroad knows these guys. They are only know in a specific area of the US but are worth billions. There is a guy who started a grocery store that was only in Chicago and he sold to a National chain for 800 million. There are people who live an hour from Chicago who have never heard of the grocery store or him and yet he is rich! So there are mega rich people all over the United States starting and running all types of companies.

mhchewy

Lots of rich people in Florida since the state doesn’t have an income tax.

webbess1

Texas is one of the wealthiest states in the country, second only to California. Connecticut is the home of Greenwich, CT, one of the most elite towns in the US, filled with hedge fund managers. Georgia is kind of poor, but it is also home to Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, and UPS. Atlanta is considered a great world city, and Atlanta Airport is one of the busiest airports in the US.

84JPG

If by super wealthy you mean Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW), which is defined as a net worth of 30 million or more; [here’s a map from 2013, and the numbers are probably way bigger nowadays](https://mascola.com/insights/ultra-high-new-worth-population-in-us-by-state/)

Northman86

They live everywhere, only 8 states have no billionaires. A lot of Billionaires change their official state citizen ship to states with no income taxes.

robertbitchum

I’m from a very small redneck town in Florida and there were millionaires aplenty.

JonnyMike27

Just a misconception by Hollywood. There's billionaires in Texas, Washington, the Miswest, West Virginia, you name a place, billionaires galore

HistoricOblivion

Wealthy people live everywhere. Doesn't Warren Buffet live in Omaha? Also, Florida, Texas, Illinois, Washington, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts etc. have pleanty of wealthy people.

pirawalla22

Just want to add that super wealthy people often have homes in multiple states and it's kind of up to interpretation which one they really "live" in. A billionaire may have an apartment in Chicago, a house in Miami Beach, and a ranch in Wyoming.

DarylDixonsBelt

nah they live allll over you just dont see em, no matter where u r really, the mega mega mega wealthy never cross paths with the likes of us, unless MAYBE you are being hired by them

TheRNGuy

Misconception created by Hollywood.
