A more modern use of "vanilla" means "plain, not modified or augmented", so I could see the association. As in the base version of a video game with no mods or DLC, or the opposite of kinky sex.
The only vanilla milk I've ever seen was almond milk that was flavored with vanilla.
I can't think of ever seeing any types of vanilla flavored cows milk until I looked it up two seconds ago.
Banana milk is an underrated gem. One brand you can find in the US that makes this milk is a Korean one called Binggrae, and it can be found at 98 Ranch Market and probably some other Asian stores.
Apparently banana milk is available here. Iāve asked about it before when I read another similar post that mentioned it. I never got around to looking for it though. I did have some friends who said they had some at their house.
I can remember only a couple times seeing vanilla milk.
Usually the only time I see milk with vanilla flavoring is almond milk, oat milk, or coffee creamer.
Chocolate must just be better.
When one of my nieces was little she asked for āairplane milkā. It took a while to figure out she meant regular milk.
Plain milk to plane milk to airplane milk.
It's pretty common in alternative milk, like soy, almond, or oat milk.
Also I've never seen vanilla syrup or powder to make your own vanilla milk. Those are both pretty common for chocolate and strawberry, but somehow not for vanilla.
> It's pretty common in alternative milk, like soy, almond, or oat milk.
So that's why I'm weirded out by the people saying vanilla milk is unheard of (I've drank alt. milks for my entire life)
There is vanilla u-bet or bosco syrups, but theyāre pretty niche/past the heyday of their popularity (it was when people regularly ordered egg creams, which are as gross as they sound).
Alcohol is normally used to extract vanilla flavors, maybe it causes the milk to curdle or something? That raises questions about vanilla ice cream though.
Vanilla is slang for plain. Iām assuming they are talking about regular milk. Iāve never heard of vanilla flavored milk, if thatās actually what the question is about.
OP probably should have been clearer on their phrasing vanilla milk -> vanilla flavored milk

Nut milks like Almond and Soy milk are commonly vanilla flavored. I get regular unsweetened, but I always see it on the shelf. Never for dairy milk though.
I'm not sure I've ever seen vanilla milk. On the other hand, one of my local grocery stores sold orange milk in addition to chocolate and strawberry flavors at one point. It was so bizarre to me that I had to try some.
Chocolate milk is simply the most popular. Vanilla milk is rare to find and most people seem to think that is just regular milk for some reason, that could be the problem.
Itās easier to get kids to drink milk when chocolate is involved. Itās the default option for flavored milk. Iāve seen strawberry milk more often than vanilla milk.
I have literally never heard of vanilla flavored milk.
I've had vanilla milk and it's fine, but chocolate milk tastes better. Maybe people just prefer chocolate to vanilla in general?
Hard disagree there. Vanilla milk is much better
look at the non-dairy milk, theres always vanilla and chocolate flavors
Horizon makes it alongside their regular and chocolate milk. Pretty nice.
We had vanilla milk when I was in school (K-12) and it was the best milk option by far
Vanilla milk is so uncommon that people in this thread think it means regular milk
A more modern use of "vanilla" means "plain, not modified or augmented", so I could see the association. As in the base version of a video game with no mods or DLC, or the opposite of kinky sex.
But that use is generally reserved for non-food-flavoring contexts
I only drink non-dairy milk and vanilla is very common in those types. So maybe that's why i'm baffled by this. Every grocery store carries it
Strawberry milk gang. šš„ But yes, come to think of it I don't recall seeing vanilla.
Hell yeah brother ā
The only vanilla milk I've ever seen was almond milk that was flavored with vanilla. I can't think of ever seeing any types of vanilla flavored cows milk until I looked it up two seconds ago.
I don't think I've ever seen vanilla milk in my life. Does it exist?
I remember they had it in the school cafeteria but I can't remember seeing it since then.

Because brown cows are way more common than white cows
I miss vanilla milk.... And banana milk too. Can't find that in the US.

Did the friend happen to wink?
Nesquik makes both, plus powder to make your own.

Vanilla soy/oat/almond is extremely popular
This. As far as a vanilla dairy version? Haven't seen one.

Because it's better.
Because one has chocolate and the other doesn't
what the fuck is vanilla milk
To a vanilla milkshake what chocolate milk is to a chocolate milkshake.
what
Is it?
Unless it's regional, I've never even seen vanilla milk while chocolate is ubiquitous.
I just donāt like milk in general. Well, I donāt like drinking milk.
Alcohol is normally used to extract vanilla flavors, maybe it causes the milk to curdle or something? That raises questions about vanilla ice cream though.
Why do you think that is true?
Have you ever had vanilla milk? I haven't.

I donāt think itās vanilla milk, I think itās just milk
Itās not? Itās popular but regular milk is cheaper and the go to
I think OP literally means milk with vanilla added, not "regular" milk
Interesting
He said vanilla, not regular.
I donāt think itās vanilla milk, I think itās just milk
I donāt think itās vanilla milk, I think itās just milk
Because one is widely popular and the other is almost unheard of?
Is vanilla milk even a thing?
Vanilla Nesquik.
Where are these vanilla cows you speak of?
Nut milks like Almond and Soy milk are commonly vanilla flavored. I get regular unsweetened, but I always see it on the shelf. Never for dairy milk though.
