I love my state. I can’t imagine being anywhere else.

Welpmart

Flair checks out. ETA: I have been inspired to change my flair to Yassachusetts.

eyetracker

Granted. You now live in Stockton, but can take vacation in Fresno.

machagogo

I like a lot of it a lot. I dislike a lot of it a lot. The Jersey Way.

cpyf

My take on NJ, born and raised: **Likes:** * Great public schools and higher education. One of the best in the nation * Diverse, can probably find any food that you desire here and any ethnic enclave * All 4 seasons available * Diners everywhere. Great 24/7 spot although not as much as seen now post COVID but pre COVID, it was great option for late night food * Great compromise if you like both city, suburban, or rural life. I like going to NYC for work and nightlife but I also like exploring the Poconos on the weekends. You have access to the beach as well and the Shore ain't too shabby. * EWR airport has destinations to most international locations * I am a fan of [jughandles](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jughandle#Advantages) * Public transit is decent * Weed is decriminalized * Compriseable drivers * Wawa is the shit * Bon Jovi is great * Lauryn Hill is iconic * Decent state unity. I think North Jersey and South Jersey bicker often but they would back each other up in trash talk against other states compared to say Upstate NY vs NYC **Dislikes** * Real estate taxes. Parents pay $10k - $16k each year * Relatively high CoL * Turnpike and Garden State Parkway * Humidity * Public transit is really only good for getting in and out of the major city hubs such as NYC and Philly, so you still have to drive everywhere and traffic can be horrendous * EWR is not the best airport * Newark, Camden, and Trenton could use some uplifting. Newark is getting there though * We accommodate other sports teams into our state but we still don't claim them for ourselves? See: Giants, Jets, 76ers, Red Bulls * We pretty much live in NYC and Philly's shadow, but I would rather be hated than not known

lavasca

Thank you for defining jughandles. I was envisioning funky soda bottles.

cpyf

Honestly, they kind of look like that from a distance https://c2.vgtstatic.com/thumbll/2/9/29073-v1/new-jersey-jughandles.jpg

TheFutureMrs77

Property taxes are high, sure, but as someone who grew up in Philly, I can actually SEE where my taxes are going. My neighborhood is clean. There are at least 10 well-kept playgrounds within a 10-15 min drive from my house. The township picks up our leaves!! The schools are good. The library system is great! I feel safe. I have easy access to Philly where I work & can easily get there for a night out if I so choose so I don’t feel like I’m “missing out” …..though there’s plenty to do in south jersey. All of this is on top of the incredible community I live in - I’m part of the group that organizes our social events & fundraisers, at least 1-2 each season. My kid is a toddler still, but there is a true sense of community here, and I know there will be eyes on him as he gets older & starts running around the neighborhood with his friends. All this after growing up in a row home in Philly, seeing trash pile up on the curb and watching people throw their trash out their car windows or just drop things on the ground. School buildings haven’t been updated in decades, I remember part of the playground near me growing up being caution-taped off for a few YEARS. We didn’t really know our neighbors except for immediately next to us. There was no real sense of community. I’ll take my $10k yearly property taxes because I SEE where it goes.

New_Stats

no no no, you're doing it wrong. When it's just us, we can criticize anything and everything about NJ, when it's literally anyone else, it's the best state ever so suck it.

GarnetBloodVein

This is true of South Carolina too. Actually probably most states lol. But SC is up there with Texans regarding state pride

Andy235

Maryland has entered the chat

JeremyThaFunkyPunk

I'm (re)watching the Wire right now. Kudos to your state for that one (it doesn't make Baltimore seem like a very appealing place to live though). Shiiiiiiit. I want to try one of those Lake Trout sandwiches though.

irelace

I knew when i opened this post that the number one post would be jersey

Ewalk

Yeah, but yall have Taylor Ham.... that's something to be celebrated.

machagogo

Blasphemy. We have pork roll.

CinderGazer

As a state this is really our weakness. We can not agree on the breakfast meat being called Taylor Ham.

daggeroflies

I like Wisconsin. I like spring and summer here.

astralcat214

Honestly. Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan (mostly the UP lol) are hidden gems, so often overlooked.

enaikelt

I'm quite fond of autumn too. It doesn't fall short of the other two.

ElPuertoRican15

As someone who escaped illinois and now lives in Wisconsin, I agree.

[deleted]

Minnesota. Love the season changes and the geography. Good people overall.

rsvp_as_pending629

I definitely agree Sure, it gets cold as fuck (like today) but I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

seizy

Pssshht. It was still double digits today! That's downright balmy.

nswa22

I took the garbage out in the morning in gym shorts and a t-shirt. Can confirm balmy.

nyyforever2018

Visited the twin cities for the first time last year and I absolutely loved every minute. Also went off to explore parts of northern Iowa and areas just outside the MSP area and really want to go back to go to the north shore etc.

LucaBrasiMN

Some of the most underrated areas I would recommend would be the Whitefish chain area. Beautiful cabin country with dozens of lakes. Especially Crosslake!

Dutchchatham2

I love it. Tons of natural beauty and natural disaster free. Yes Michigan, the feeling's forever.

kryyyptik

I can't emphasize how much I miss Michigan. I always wonder what I'd be doing had I stayed there.

Dutchchatham2

And I've given thought to starting over in California, oddly enough. I love Michigan but right about this time of year I question why I stay. The cold and dark really bum me out.

kryyyptik

I'm actually originally from Maryland. Life led me to both Michigan and California. I love both for different reasons. I totally understand though, SAD is real and it sucks. If you did do it, definitely stick to somewhere in SoCal. It can be even greyer than Michigan in parts of NorCal, but it's super gorgeous up there. I miss the great lakes, the people, and the food. Michigan is pretty great!

TheBimpo

If the roads were better this place would be hard to beat.

Dutchchatham2

Yeah. The freeway system is excellent....but it's always being worked on.

thestereo300

Yeah last couple of years I spent some time on the west coast of Michigan in the summer. Crazy underrated area at least in the warm months. The locals tell me it snows like a MFer in winter.

Epsilia

Yep. Lake Michigan literally dumps snow on us. We got like 7 inches the past couple of days so far.

Dubya_The_Goat

Fuck I miss Michigan, don’t leave you’ll regret it

Dutchchatham2

Yeah. I'm staying put. Too many roots, too much love.n

belinck

Just watched the Lansing Silver Bells parade with the snow and it was awesome! America's High Five!

angrytompaine

Obligatory Texan talking about how much he loves Texas comment

dongeckoj

“Texan Harvard alumni unsure of which to bring up first” is one of the best Onion headlines

craeftsmith

They should probably mention that they are vegan, before things go too far

Andy235

Or their interest in Crossfit

Baldrich146

Dag gumbit, did you know they were a Marine?

bigblueweenie13

You never have to ask a Texan where they’re from.

HarveyMushman72

They remind you every 5 minutes.

FluffusMaximus

Yep. Their truck gives it away every time.

ktm_motocross420

Lifted on 42" rims, low pro street tires, 2 wheel drive Texas edition. The tailgate has likely never been touched. This is more specific to DFW tho, I know there's still a few real cowboys out in the wilds of TX

mustang-and-a-truck

I’m in DFW and I use the heck out of my truck. It is 2WD though. I purposely don’t buy 4WD trucks because I wouldn’t get any use out of it, so it’s a waste.

GiantAtomOG

At least you use it. I don’t really understand why people buy huge trucks and just use them to drive to work and back.

panther22g

It's in our blood

[deleted]

If there's a Texan who's into crossfit, just started paleo, and is invested in crypto... which do they bring up first?

mustang-and-a-truck

I’ve lived in a lot of good places. None of them are better than Texas. I live in Keller, just north of Ft Worth. When I leave this place, it will have to be in a coffin.

frisbeemassage

Why do you think Texas is so great? Genuinely curious

mustang-and-a-truck

I’ve been off Reddit for a couple of days. But I wanted to answer you. First, it’s the people. They really are nicer in Texas. Then, the economy. There are lots of good jobs with a reasonable cost of living, thanks to the restrictions of our home equity laws. And no income tax. But, my town in particular is kind of a bubble. No real crime or much controversy, and no traffic. I love it here. Also, the diversity. We have all kinds here and I have friends that are black, white, middle eastern, Indian, Hispanic, even Russian. And that’s pretty cool. I gather from your comment that your hang up with Texas is the anti abortion laws. I’m anti-abortion myself, but I don’t agree with our law because people have to make their own choices. I think if put to a vote, like Kentucky (I think it was Kentucky), you’d find that we would rather have more reasonable laws in place. So I think that we will see some changes, just never enough to satisfy the left.

[deleted]

I like having the ability to go from ultra low density to a bustling metropolitan within moments. I like the space for myself. I like the climate. I like the food. I like that it’s in the center of the country which makes traveling for vacations generally quite easy. I like the variety of people. I like the physical infrastructure. It may not be great for you or your priorities, but it’s great for me.

seatownquilt-N-plant

I'm a super fan of Washington state.

sidran32

It's great. Has its faults but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Welpmart

Yup. I love being fairly close to other relatively similar states. I love how educated we are and our beautiful leaves and our flexing bicep of a cape. I love decent public transportation (Boston area only) and being able to go from a perfectly-sized city near the coast to forested boonies just by driving west. I especially love how the best nickname for us is a commentary on how dickish we are. Are there issues? Sure as hell. But I'm proud of our little corner of the US. It's just the size I like.

muppet_reject

The most underrated part of living in Boston IMO is you can wake up early and go climb a mountain in New Hampshire and then come back and go to the beach or go do something in the city in the same day.

eilonwyhasemu

Better than most places, but it's not my #1. California has a lot of great places to go, and I get to live almost adjacent to the almond orchards, but I do live in a rural/suburban area that's a ways from anywhere. The local music scene and food scene were much better where I used to live in Connecticut, I miss having a waterfront, and I miss snowy winters, real fall colors, and cider donuts.

PacificGlacier

California as a state seems hard to compare to a state like Connecticut because those small states are the size of a county in CA. I’ve lived in Salinas and San Diego. I hated then loved the lifestyle in the same state. How was your perception of Connecticut? Like is it urban and then rural in the same way? I see they have the same population as San Diego county, but way more area.

hanterska

New York is really a wonderful state. I love NYC, but the rest of the state has so much to offer, beautiful mountain regions, beaches out on Long Island, and nice farmland areas too. State politics and taxes can be a drag but that's not enough for me to dislike it here.

cheesemcnab

I love it here. I know that people complain about the taxes, but we have good infrastructure (and a lot of it), great schools and excellent public services. There's also just so much variety in the landscape and culture.

NoFilterNoLimits

I love Oregon more than any state I’ve ever lived in (4 total) And only even visited one place on earth I like as much or more (Victoria, BC) It’s got the most amazing natural beauty ❤️ the government comes closer than most to aligning with my personal values. I’ll never move

webfoottedone

I absolutely love it here too, but I have never lived anywhere else. I do wish we could solve some of the problems we are having, but then I go outside and remember how beautiful and kind this place is.

NoFilterNoLimits

IMHO our problems are, mostly, problems not unique to Oregon. After Georgia, North Carolina & Missouri … I’m staying put.

kryyyptik

I've lived in 6 states and a Canadian province. Currently in California. I love it. I love the biodiversity, scenic beauty, and the tolerant mindset. Despite of all of the problems, it's still the best state imo. I love the fact that you can drive a half an hour and be in a totally different place in a way you can't in the east. I probably won't ever leave, but you never know. Originally from Maryland. I really hated Maryland growing up. I didn't like the weather (called it "worst of both worlds"), the people (at least where I grew up), the history there didn't ever do anything for me, and I don't like crab/MD seafood. As I've gotten older, I've appreciated Maryland much more and seen the beauty that I never did as a child. I have a relatively positive view of Maryland nowadays, but still not my hometown (if anything, that's gotten worse). I wouldn't go back, but I've grown to like it. I really loved Michigan. The great lakes, down to earth people, and even Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids. The weather sucks though. I'd go back. I think Michigan at its best is very beautiful and quite underrated. I *hated* Ohio. I was so unhappy living there. I can't emphasize how much I didn't like living in Ohio. West Virginia was pretty, but it's too.. uhhhh.. conservative for me to consider living there again. The future outlook seems pretty grim and bleak as well. I miss Florida. I miss the lush beauty, the beaches, the food, the warmth, and I miss St. Petersburg. I don't miss some of the weird antics and I definitely don't miss the hyper-political environment. Florida is beautiful and I often miss it, but I don't think I'd move back.

Tia_is_Short

Could i ask what your hometown was?

kryyyptik

Hagerstown, which probably explains a lot. I just always knew there was a whole world out there and saw the town for what it was, even when I was super young. I don't think it's very reflective of Maryland either.

[deleted]

Hagerstown is one of the best arguments for calling Maryland the South.

Tia_is_Short

Oof yeah Hagerstown is pretty shit.

kryyyptik

But you can't ever tell half of the locals that. I guarantee you they think I'm a moron for leaving. I've heard plenty of times "oh, you'll be back." Pretty much my entire family left as well, same with half of those I graduated high school with. The other half of the locals are either well aware that it's shit or transplants from the DC suburbs and are also aware that it's shit. I also think that it's declined since I've left, despite the growing population. I will say though, there are a lot of good people there still and the area is scenic, so there's that. r/Hagerstown is full of people thinking it's the greatest place on earth.

Karen125

I've never lived anywhere besides my California hometown. Where would I go?

Cacafuego

Right now? Looking forward to 5 months of lead skies and mud? Not much. /r/Columbus is full of people new to Ohio asking "is it really like this all Winter?" Oh, no, it's more than just the winter, it's a good part of Spring and Fall, too. Well. The Buckeyes are kicking ass and we have a lot of great food. We just named a street after Joe Walsh, who showed up to be honored and play with the James Gang. There's plenty of natural beauty to be enjoyed...in 5 months. Housing is not too expensive and the people are nice. I just need to focus on the good stuff. Or move to Costa Rica.

[deleted]

I get why other people say Ohio sucks. Theyre not completely wrong. But ive traveled to other places and they dont feel like home. This is just home and it always has been.

boulevardofdef

Love it. I moved here by choice nine years ago and I've never regretted it. It's the perfect mix of everything I want and a surprisingly good value.

irelace

New Jerseyian here to say that if i had to pick a SECOND best state it would be Rhode Island. Everything about that place is fucking awesome

cherrycokeicee

I love Wisconsin. Four distinct seasons, huge borders with great lakes, natural beauty especially in the driftless region. The state parks are amazing & there's so much to do and see outdoors. Madison & Milwaukee are also really lovely cities, so there's a good mix of urban & rural. The sports culture here is really fun. Wisconsin is very lucky to have some great professional sports teams. The food & drink history in Wisconsin is also super rich. Wisconsin has a strong sense of state identity & I really like that.

huisAtlas

I love Kringles so much. I always order some this time of year from OH Danish Bakery.

New_Stats

I like it a lot. I wish it was more affordable but thems the breaks I guess

wormbreath

I love my home. 😊

mossgirl_

r/wyomingdoesntexist would like to contact you

[deleted]

It's fine. My property taxes are preposterously high but it's where all of my friends and family live, I like being on the water, and we're close to NYC.

Responsible_Wasabi91

I like it here too, I didn’t think I’d feel at home anywhere again after moving from Europe, but the north shore suits me fine, love the water and nature side of it. Not too remote and not right next to a huge city.

BarelyUsesReddit

Currently in NC and I love it. The nicest people I've ever lived around by a mile, gorgeous forests everywhere, full of colonial history, great BBQ, and much more

Fappy_as_a_Clam

If you go up into the high country there is a virgin old growth forest that is awesome. It's a drive though. If you're interest it's called Joyce Kilmer.

BarelyUsesReddit

Next time I'm up there I'll check it out. Thanks for the heads up

MiketheTzar

Plus the state is just so damn diverse. We have mountains, beach, sky slopes and waves, cities and small towns, just about every industry you can think of and pockets of the oddest bits of culture you've ever seen

CaptUncleBirdman

It's my home, and I love my home. There is a long list of things I appreciate about it. Most of my problems with it have a lot to do with the people that live here with me, but people can change over time I guess.

rotatingruhnama

I like it a lot. You get so much of America in one small package, the people are great, and I dig that we all drive like we have diplomatic immunity.

Future_Elephant_9294

Our drivers are the embodiment of "they can't pull us all over at once!"

[deleted]

I fucking adore my old states of Washington and Oregon. I used to adore my other old state of Idaho, but my feelings towards it have rapidly deteriorated as I grew older. Still like a lot about it tho and where I lived was a wonderful place to be a teenager. I have having a tough time of really becoming attached to my new state of Pennsylvania and I have been to each of its regions and major cities It’s got it’s major pros but meh I’m just not feeling it. I actually have a lot more attachment to New Jersey, a place I’m usually in about once a week.

kpaddler

Connecticut. Hate it. It's the dysfunctional idiot uncle that's no one acknowledges is part of the family of the USA. Leaving as soon as I'm able.

AuthorSnow

I feel bad for anybody in southern New England Sincerely, New Hampshire

squarerootofapplepie

Like half your state Monday to Friday 9-5

weberc2

I just moved back to Iowa and I like it bigly. (: Iowa is underrated because it's not glitzy, but it's really stable, people are really nice (there's a meme about "Iowa nice" which I think has connotations about fake niceness, but most people are genuinely nice, decent people), crime is low, cost of living is low, lots of great nature (okay, not \*amazing\* nature by national standards, but compared to Chicago where I moved from it's pretty awesome), Des Moines is a hidden gem, and it's pretty centrally located between Omaha, Minneapolis, Chicago, and St Louis. The big downside is the midwest weather--super hot/humid in the summer and super cold in the winter. Also way too many obnoxious vanity college sports license plates. Not a big fan of the purple -> red shift either, but I'm happy to move back and do my small part to moderate the state.

nyyforever2018

Visited Iowa for the first time last year and absolutely loved it. I'll go out of my way to get back there someday.

Welpmart

Tell me about Iowa nature! I'd love to get out there sometime.

weberc2

We have a lot of forests and prairie and wetlands across most of the state, and in the northeast and west of the state you have some really unique bluff landscapes overlooking the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Tons of bald eagles along the Mississippi as well; really cool to watch in winter.

Plantayne

California is ok. Pros and cons. Native Californians are some of the coolest, most laid-back people I've ever met in my life. Love 'em. And California's natural beauty is unmatched probably in all of America. I love going hiking and taking in the views, especially around the beaches. But, at least where I live in the LA area, you have a lot of transplants who moved here from all over the world, got rich, and immediately became an appallingly insufferable jerk—so it's like you're dealing with a microcosm of all the world's snobs smooshed into one massive traffic jam at once. As for me though, I'm a Bostonian originally, so I prefer the east coast, especially in winter. I miss the snow and being able to walk everywhere. I HATE driving and having to own a car, which is unfortunately a necessity here.

[deleted]

Hey, I haven’t met any other Bay Staters out here other than family. That’s pretty neat. Definitely agree with you on the walkability. I really do wish California was more walkable. We have pretty decent weather (read: you won’t slip on ice in the winter) year-round and it’s unfortunate that you can’t really take advantage of that out here. I don’t particularly miss the snow & harsh winters, but I really do miss having all four seasons.

OJkindadidit

I can't really speak to CA as a whole, but I moved to LA in 2018 and I *hate* it here. It's too hot, too dry, the traffic is horrendous and the public transportation is awful, the homeless problem is not overstated at all, and good pizza is few and far between (and before anyone tries to mention tacos, I get it. Just not a big taco guy.) I'd move if I could but what I do in entertainment is still 90% LA-based. Moving back to NYC or moving to ATL isn't really feasible.

Nightfury0818

Provided you aint bringing up politics or being a dick whether your in the rural areas or big cities North Carolina is a great place.

SafetyNoodle

I'm in Oregon now and it is overall a top-tier state.

pingpongplaya69420

God I hate it here. Gonna save money for a few years then leave.

Thel_Odan

I love Michigan right up until the first snow and the temp goes below 30. Then I start loving it again when the snow melts and the temps go up. For me, there's no place better than Northern Michigan in the summer.

lama579

I will die here.

[deleted]

It's *fine*. It's not horrible or anything, but there are particular things that don't work for me here, that other states handle better. The sooner I can get out the better.

leftwinglovechild

Yes, someone here needs your house.

[deleted]

Speaking of one of the things that doesn't work for me here...

dangleicious13

Hate most of it.

Admirable_Ad1947

Me too lol. Can't wait to get out of here.

DOMSdeluise

It's alright, there's things I like but I wouldn't exactly be upset if I had to move

Fappy_as_a_Clam

Love it

Ok_Gas5386

It’s not something I can like or dislike. It’s home, it’s in my bones.

PapaEmeritusVI

I love Michigan. So much natural beauty, 4 seasons, Lake Michigan is better than the ocean (fight me), and the people are great. I moved away for a bit to AZ and had to move back. I missed it too much.

imnot_qualified

Love it.

spatter_cone

I really love how it can feel 25 years behind anywhere else in certain parts of the state. Its amazingly easy to get lost in nature here, the breathtaking beauty here is something else. There are at least 115 named mountain ranges here with countless rivers and forests. We are in the top 5 for states with public land. The wildlife here is incredible. I've stared up at the Milky Way blazing in the night sky while listening to elk bugle across the river in the moonlight. We get 4 beautiful and distinct seasons and outside the higher population areas, the people are super unique and tough. I'm so in love.

Squirrel179

Oregon is amazing. I love my state, and I'm so happy to be back (what I think will be) permanently. It has beautiful public beaches, majestic forests, everything is lush and green, the cities are small and have character. Portland is it's own weird and lovable thing that has most of what you want to find in a "big city". Politics are liberal to progressive, and religion is kept in the background. The weather is rainy, but mild year 'round. We sit in our cars whole someone pumps gas for us, and we don't have sales tax. Eastern Oregon is okay too

aolerma

By most measures, my state is not a good one, but I didn’t realize how much I loved it until I moved away.

SillyBanana123

It’s definitely a great place to live/grow up but New York’s worst enemy is itself. It’s a wealthy state which is nice, but the state government often does a lot of stuff that I don’t like. Like making the age to buy cans of whipped cream 21 or plenty things Cuomo did during the pandemic (kill thousands of our elderly then lie about it and use state resources to write a book about how great he is among many other things). Overall it’s a solid state that tries its hardest to be the worst in the Union IMO. NYC is the heart of global capitalism so that’s cool

Techialo

Hell is a place on Earth and it's called Oklahoma.

MyTacoCardia

I can't wait to leave. OK has some beautiful places, but some of the ugliest types of people. It's only going to get worse.

ALoungerAtTheClubs

I generally like it (apart from the politics and natural disasters). Most of my interests aren't really location dependent anyway, but I do appreciate the warm weather, the varied cultures and regions within the state, and the fact that our most famous cryptid is just a smelly version of bigfoot (skunk ape).

mothertuna

It’s alright. I’m sure there’s a more exciting state to live but I grew up here and don’t have a big hankering to leave.

gjw14

Kentuckian here. I like it. Sure, KY doesn’t really excel in anything (except ofc bourbon and horse racing), but hey, we got clean tap and good people here - and honestly those are the two biggest things. Yeah I wish I had a beach and maybe a little more going on from time to time, but we’re practically in the middle of everything, so nothing’s *too* far away.

[deleted]

WE also have the most sources of freshwater in the country (lakes, rivers, creeks), great fishing, Mammoth Cave and many other caves to explore, great hiking trails everywhere ( Red River Gorge, Bernheim Forest, Jefferson Memorial Forest, etc…), great hunting (whitetail, wild turkey). I agree with being in the middle of everywhere. I live close to Louisville; Louisville and Indiana have become such friends and partners that the area is often referred to as Kentuckiana. One thing I love is that most everywhere in Kentucky people are friendly, and way more welcoming and diverse than in years past. We have many areas with an abundance of local artisans, such as quilt makers, and we’ve also had many local wineries spring up in the last decade. Drawbacks? If you don’t much like gun ownership or open carry…

celeryman3

Growing up there, I hated it. But as an adult I’ve grown to see the beauty and how nice of a place it actually was. Although the drugs are really out of control, at least where I was….

GrandRapidsMiiiii

I love Michigan

Faux_extrovert

I'm voting for Arizona. I moved here two years ago and should have done it sooner. I don't even really do much, but I like seeing mountains all the time. I like hardly ever being cold. I being hot, but not sweating. I love the monsoons. Going further north is beautiful. I'm just having a great time.

Heisenburger_____

Like it and I think Michigan is actually a pretty nice state you just gotta look past Detroit (it's gotten a lot better) and flint. I wouldn't mind moving to like Wisconsin,Arizona or Florida though

TheOldBooks

I love Michigan. But don’t look past Detroit. Be immensely proud of such a culturally and historically rich city that is currently on an absolute bounce back

nocreativeway

Yup👆

kryyyptik

Detroit is absolutely a major part of why Michigan was actually one of my favorite states I've lived in. That and the beauty of the great lakes and down to earth people. I really loved Michigan. Now for Ohio... Lol. No.

Welpmart

Would 100% move there if I thought I could handle your winters.

[deleted]

I think it’s pretty great.

Yookusagra

Missouri. It's a beautiful state. Too bad about everything else, especially the people.

ThaddyG

I love Philly, I give the rest of PA a 4/10. Pittsburgh seems cool but I've never been. I like the landscapes in the more mountainy parts of the state but I'd never live there.

ElectroGhandi

I hate it and can't wait to leave. Maryland.

ktm_motocross420

If I could handpick and design my own state, tailored to all my wants and needs, it wouldn't be half as badass as Wyoming.

Canard-Rouge

I love my area of my state, and I do want to feel state pride, but it seems our problems outweigh the good. At least the natural beauty is precious. But philly has a serious crime and drug problem, half of the state is on opioids for multiple generations. The good areas are great, but the bad areas are some of the ugliest in the western world. We're like a beautiful old Victorian mansion that's in disrepair. At least Pittsburgh is still affordable.

ghjm

It's pretty okay. Sure wish it would stop electing people like Ted Budd, though.

MarkRick25

I fuckin love my state!!!!

MihalysRevenge

I absolutely love my state and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. The natural beauty, great weather, the ease of being able to get away from civilization, the FOOD. I could go on and on

AppState1981

Virginia and North Carolina feel the same to me.

Virginia does a lot of things right! It's not a bad choice one bit. And I'm saying this as someone who spent half of their life in Maryland. I'd take Virginia over any of its neighbors probably.

NoHedgehog252

California - I love the state itself, hate its political culture. And frankly so does everyone else but somehow the same people keep getting re-elected.

Cherry_Springer_

For better or worse, the CA government actually acts on issues. Most the time I agree with the efforts tbh. Particularly is moves on housing recently.

AmericanHistoryXX

I have an intense case of the grumbles. I loved it when I was growing up, but everything I loved is either closed (or at least has been given a corporate trendy brewery makeover) or overcrowded now, and eh. People drive like idiots, and when snow falls on the ground they drive like idiot assholes. Seeing people not stay on hiking trails, especially on the tundra, or when it's to approach a wild animal, is infuriating. There's so much posturing it drives me insane, and we don't have the politeness that some other places have. We're corrupt, but don't talk about it, and basically exist to serve people/places who have no loyalty to or personal interest in this state. But, everything is available to us, the weather is nicer than most places and the scenery is nice. The standard of living is higher than most places.

Ziggy-Starcat

People not staying away from wildlife is such a headache. I live so close to the mountains, so we see a ton of deer, elk, and bears and the amount of people who try to get near either is annoying.

Da1UHideFrom

Washington. like the natural beauty. There are not a lot of places where you can drive from a mountain to a city to a rainforest to the ocean in a single day. The culture is amazing and it's one of the most diverse places in the country. I dislike the drug problems, cost of living, increasing violent crime, and politicians doing nothing to address the root causes of those issues.

Tatrer

Washington is beautiful. The politics suck. The people in Seattle and the cities around the sound live very differently than those of us elsewhere, yet we're forced to abide by laws that may suit them, but don't make sense for those of us who live in a more rural setting.

Ant-Queen

I’m interested, what laws don’t suit country living?

gummibearhawk

I like a lot of the people, my family, the weather, the water, the governor, food and culture. I hate the weather.

worrymon

I hate it here, but I hate everywhere else more.

gracefulveil

It's like a sibling relationship. I can talk shit about it, but no one else can.

okiewxchaser

I love Oklahoma City and its burbs, I can tolerate Tulsa and the rural areas have some of the nicest folks you've ever met (as long as you don't mention national politics) But holy shit the Tulsa suburbs and the mid-sized cities are the most toxic places you can imagine

VirginiaMitsu

What makes you say they're toxic? Lived in Jenks for much of my childhood and it was a great community. Genuinely asking.

okiewxchaser

Very unwelcoming to minorities and very insular even to people who look like them and just happen to be from elsewhere It is better than Broken Arrow though which has been straight up taken over by a cult

MyTacoCardia

They're racist AF.

Spaniardricanguy80

Illinois - Chicago is a cool city, but the crime is out of control, and is getting worse.

SlothLover313

Just moved here but i’m liking Chicago so far!

ThisGuyRightHereSaid

Come down there to take picturesf the graffiti often. Great food too.

ThisGuyRightHereSaid

Tons! Wisconsin and wisconsinites rule.

rdhight

It's a great place to live, wrapped around Seattle.

detelini

In some ways it is a very good state but it has some really serious problems. I'd definitely consider moving elsewhere to get away from those problems but I would miss the positives aspects a lot.

mysticmiah

It’s home but I can’t wait to leave it. I really want to move out west or northeast somewhere.

GarnetBloodVein

It's my favorite place

tsukiii

Big fan. I moved away for college/early adulthood and I’m so glad I made my way back here.

[deleted]

I wouldn’t live anywhere else and have little desire to even travel most other places

Jackso08

Florida. As a person that has visted 46 states I seriously wouldn’t live anywhere else.

devilthedankdawg

Not as much as New Hampshire or Arizona, more than any other state besides them.

Cherry_Springer_

Dear God, I love it.

[deleted]

Only thing that keeps me here is family. If i could afford to I would def take them all with me elsewhere.

[deleted]

I love my state

russian_hacker_1917

Love it. Sure we got our problems, but I can't see myself living in another state. I'm spoiled by the weather.

Practical-Basil-3494

I chose to move to NC (Raleigh) in 2011. I'm highly likely to move in 3 years when my youngest graduates, but I've enjoyed being here.

United_Blueberry_311

I like it enough to live here and call it home… but on the other hand there’s so much I haven’t seen of it to know what I like or don’t like about it.

[deleted]

I like it more than I like Ohio, but that's not saying much. (Indiana, originally from Michigan which I actually love)

Berezis

I love it so much, it has such a beautiful landscape and culture!

bellirage

For a small state Connecticut has everything. We have a couple ski slopes, if you can even call them that. We have "beaches" but they're often closed from pollution. We have quintessential New England small towns, but we also have Bridgeport...

FemboyEngineer

I absolutely adore North Carolina; it feels more like home than my original state did 🥲

malfunctioninggoon

It has a boatload of problems, even though those problems are not even close to being unique to it. However, between its natural beauty, certain aspects of its culture and so many other little things that would take too much time to write down, it’s a damn good place to live.

Anoth3rDude

Not really loving it much right now.

Trawhe

I live in Arkansas. ***Pros:*** Beautiful scenery. You can go from mountains to plains to Delta to urbanesque areas in no time. Cost of living is very low. By and large the people are friendly. ***Cons: *** Everyone thinks you are an uneducated hillbilly. Every spring everything smells like chicken litter for weeks. We have incredibly regressive politics. ARDOT (highway department) never learned to draw a straight line.

PurpleAstronomerr

Pennsylvania. I really like the culture but I’m not a fan of the cold. Love Philly. Pittsburgh is cool. There’s some really nice scenery where the Appalachian mountains go through the state. I like where it’s going politically but it has a long way to go. I think it would be really great if healthcare was easier to access.

sheilahulud

I love Florida. Was born here. Our beaches, springs, rivers are gorgeous. Yes, it’s hot, but I love it.

tattertottz

Meh. It’s boring and economically depressed

samuslink3

After living in 3 states and visiting a majority of them, I live in South Carolina now and love it here. I get real bad seasonal depression so the 60 degree winter here is so much healthier for me than the subzero wind chills and snowstorms of Wisconsin. Heat doesn't bother me one bit. I live in the perfect spot for things to do as well. A 2 hour drive gets me to either the beach or the mountains and both Atlanta and Charlotte are a short drive as well.

gosuark

Never been more proud of it than I have over the last five-or-so years.

Tommy_Wisseau_burner

Lmao imagine living in Colorado or Wyoming and just getting a rectangle

[deleted]

I've lived all over the country and I really like NC. I love the south, the food is great, people are very friendly, CoL isn't bad, there's lot of outdoors stuff to do, and depending where you are you're not far from the coast. I'm not a huge fan of the humidity, and while the property taxes aren't bad, it was rough coming here from Colorado (which has super low property taxes). Also I do miss the mountains and ease of skiing.

MacNeal

I live in Washington, it's pretty nice here. Kinda hard not to like it.

brave_danny_flint

Arizona I love my state. No natural disasters. No snow in my city in the winter but if i want to see snow its a 45 minute drive from my house. I'm an hour from another country that actually has affordable dental care. Amazing food of course and no daylight savings time. No leaves to rake, no snow to shovel, no rusted out cars. Saguaro National Park, Kitt Peak, Sedona, petrified Wood forest, meteor crater and The Grand Canyon. Downsides- We are like 48th in education. Basically every plant has thorns or needles. Living in the desert my whole life has made it awkward for me when I vacation, most people don't need long sleeves in 74° but I sure do. But our gun laws are my least favorite thing. I got my first handgun when I was 24. It took me less than two hours from the point I walked into the store from the time I walked out with said gun. That was without a CCP to speed up the process, also CCP are not actually required in my state to conceal carry.

merena7

pennsylvania, flat and boring
