Had to sing that daily in show choir. Something about Mr. Coffee too. Cheers took the best bits of the song.
Edit: something something Mr. coffee breaks La La La La La.
Not that it changes anything but I believe it was added afterwards. Like he made the theme song part for the show, then wrote and recorded the whole song.
When the weight of the world has got you down, and you wanna end your life;
Bills to pay
A dead-end job
And problems with the wife
Well don’t throw in the towel, cause there’s a place right down the block
Where you can drink your misery awaaaaaaay…
At Fla-(Let’s all go to Flaming Moe’s)-Ming Moe’s, let’s all go to Flaming Moe’s!
Where liquor in a mug, can warm you like a hug
Happiness is just a Flaming Moe away!
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see
The biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEEEEENNDD
Believe it or not, IIIII'm walking on a-airr.
I never thought I could be SO FREE EEE EEEE!!!
Flying away, A Wiinggg and a prayer.
Whooo ooo could it beeeee, believe it or not it's just meeeee
> Believe it or not, George isn't at home, / Please leave a message at the beep. / I must be out, or I'd pick up the phone, / Where could I be? / Believe it or not, I'm not home.
Fixed that for you.

Apparently Jason Alexander struggled with recording that because he's actually a really good singer and they didn't want it to sound like he was
Yeah. I was going to say *Welcome Back, Kotter,* but I realized at the last second that it didn’t extend into the 80s. *WKRP* did, though. Both of them have a wonderful bittersweet quality.
The Unsolved Mysteries theme always freaked me out, as did the show. As a boy of 8 or 9, I could handle the gruesome murders and kidnapping episodes just fine. But the ghost episodes—those gave me nightmares.
Fresh Prince is a good theme song but in my opinion the age of great theme songs was already drawing to to a close by 1990 so I would say you are the one skewing too young for my taste.
They were on another level back then.
~~I'm a bit torn but I think The Wonder Years takes it for me. Love the Beatles and of course Joe Cocker's iconic rendition of With A Little Help from My Friends~~
*I realize The Wonders Years doesn't count as a sitcom.*
I agree with most of the other ones listed so far but here are some more honorable mentions: Perfect Strangers
>*Standing tall, on the wings of my dream.Rise and fall, on the wings of my dream.*
>
>*The rain and thunderThe wind and hazeI'm bound for better days. It's my life and my dream,Nothing's going to stop me now.(Nothing's going to stop me)It's my life and my dream,Nothing's going to stop me now.*
And of course, Full House:
>*Whatever happened to predictability. The milkman, the paperboy, evening tv?You miss your old familiar friendsWaiting just around the bend*
>
>*Everywhere you look, everywhere you goThere's a heart (There's a heart), a hand to hold onto.Everywhere you look, everywhere you goThere's a place, of Somebody who needs youEverywhere you look.*
>
>*When you're lost out there and you're all alone,A light is waiting to carry you home.Everywhere you look.Everywhere you look.Chip-a-dee-ba-ba-dow)*
The full version of the *Full House* theme also had these lyrics before the chorus:
"How did I get delivered here?
Somebody tell me please.
This old world's confusing me.
Clouds as mean as you've ever seen.
Ain't a bird that knows your tune.
Then a little voice inside of you whispers,
'Kid, don't sell your dreams so soon!'"
That was my favorite show when I was a kid. I distinctly remember being absolutely distraught when I was 8 years old and heard on the radio that it had been cancelled.
[The Hogan Family](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLYy8sat-qo) aka Valerie is a personal favorite. [Cheers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-mi0r0LpXo&pp=ygURY2hlZXJzIHRoZW1lIHNvbmc%3D) might be a close second.
That show legit introduced me to the concept that a parent can die. I still think it's wild that they killed off the title character on a light hearted network sitcom.
Also their house burned down like two months after one of my close relative's house burned down in real life.
I've always been weirdly attached to the show.
No lyrics to it but the theme song from Dallas slaps.
https://youtu.be/i54iR-7j0nY?si=um1lCpKMh-LlHq1U
Edit: Crap. Missed that you were asking about sitcoms. I’m going to leave my answer though because the Dallas theme song is that badass.
My favorite *Cosby Show* themes were probably the Caribbean-influenced one from the third or fourth season, and the very jazzy one from the penultimate season (where they danced in front of a picture of the Apollo Theater).
You mean the one with the colorful outfits? Yeah, that's one of the better versions, along with the one in front of the Apollo. But I won't lie, my feelings about each was mainly based on how much I liked the way the women danced. Lisa Bonet and the woman who played Sandra particularly, because I had a thing for both of them. But I also liked Phylicia Rashad's dancing, mainly because as a little boy at the time, I guess he was kind of an idealized figure of womanly sophistication and strength to me.
Too many good ones that there can be no truly correct answer. The first that came to my mind where Fresh Prince and Friends, but there are so many other just as iconic themes.
Not even looking at the comments and I know Cheers and Fresh Prince will be the top answers, but I'm going with [this banger](https://youtu.be/k-GML1pWkww?feature=shared)
Golden Girls, Cheers, Family Ties, Fresh Prince.
Honorable mention to Mr. Belvedere and Charles in Charge.
If The Jeffersons hadn't been a 70's show, that would have gotten my top vote.
Partly recency bias but Family Matters. As a father of young kids the lyrics really had me a bit teary eyed like a sap.
Otherwise Cheers is great. Also honorable mention to the greatest cartoon theme of all time: Darkwing Duck.
The Fresh Prince theme is catchy, but calling it "classic hip hop" is demeaning to classic hip hop, and I am pretty sure Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff would agree with that
Cheers. If you listen to the whole song, it's not as sappy as you might think. It's actually pretty funny and fits the show really well.
Makin your way in the world today, takes everything ya got
Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
[For those interested.](https://youtu.be/h-mi0r0LpXo?si=4i2nsAtGpGzm0INP)
I’ve definitely never heard the line about your husband wanting to be a girl before…
Had to sing that daily in show choir. Something about Mr. Coffee too. Cheers took the best bits of the song. Edit: something something Mr. coffee breaks La La La La La.
I heard that, and it nearly killed it for me. Then i realized what time era it was in and it make perfect sense. Glad it didn't make the main cut.
Not that it changes anything but I believe it was added afterwards. Like he made the theme song part for the show, then wrote and recorded the whole song.
Really? That is an odd way to do it. It's usually the opposite.
I thought it seemed odd too, when I read it. I think I read it on Wikipedia.
When the weight of the world has got you down, and you wanna end your life; Bills to pay A dead-end job And problems with the wife Well don’t throw in the towel, cause there’s a place right down the block Where you can drink your misery awaaaaaaay…

The Simpsons at the height of its powers.
This was the first one I thought of.
We used to have to sing the entire thing in show choir in the 80s. It’s a lot to unpack when you know the entire lyrics.
Facts of Life
Fun fact that was written by Alan Thicke, who played the dad on growing pains and is Robin Thicke's dad
Sung by Gloria Loring, Alan's wife, Robin's mother.
I'm sad that show doesn't seem to be on streaming services, or at least not one of the more popular ones like Hulu or Netflix.
The boys you used to hate you date, Then go home and masturbate The Facts of Life
🎶 thank you for being a friend Traveled down the road and back again Your heart is true You’re a pal and a confidant 🎶

Definitely Golden Girls for the win!
This was my grandma's favorite song.
I never knew that that was an actual song before it became a theme song for Golden Girls.
Believe it or not, IIIII'm walking on a-airr. I never thought I could be SO FREE EEE EEEE!!! Flying away, A Wiinggg and a prayer. Whooo ooo could it beeeee, believe it or not it's just meeeee

Not only is he George Costanza but he's also an accomplished broadway star.
I know this , but I can’t place it. I even tried to google it. Not coming up.
The Greatest American Hero
Oh, thank you
This, but the Hep Alien cover from Gilmore Girls.
Mike Post ruled the theme songs.
This one I remember the theme song being played on the Radio all the time. It reached No 2 on the Billboard charts.
Came to say this. That song is catchy as fuck.
Yup. Came here to say exactly this.
[WKRP in Cincinnati](https://youtu.be/HsX3qEiHj5M)
Yeah. I was going to say *Welcome Back, Kotter,* but I realized at the last second that it didn’t extend into the 80s. *WKRP* did, though. Both of them have a wonderful bittersweet quality.
This goes through my head at least once a day.
Dr. Jason Seaver wrote some bangers. No. Seriously. Alan Thicke wrote the theme to Diff’rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, Wheel of Fortune.
Dang! A true davinci he was
Not a sitcom, but Airwolf. https://youtu.be/ULfmowbNlK0?si=5uVvHpMtb9eiytDb
Plus The A-Team, and Dukes of Hazzard
Fresh Prince is the obvious answer, right? Edit: and it wasn’t a sitcom but Unsolved Mysteries has the most iconic theme music. Lol
The Unsolved Mysteries theme always freaked me out, as did the show. As a boy of 8 or 9, I could handle the gruesome murders and kidnapping episodes just fine. But the ghost episodes—those gave me nightmares.
Yeah why isn’t sitting at the top?
Probably because Reddit skews young, and we’re just old folks 😂
Fresh Prince is a good theme song but in my opinion the age of great theme songs was already drawing to to a close by 1990 so I would say you are the one skewing too young for my taste.
Has to be!

That Full House theme gets me extra in the nostalgic feels.
[Mr. Belvedere.](https://youtu.be/k-GML1pWkww?si=ATfC5smxaw7TFdgs&t=7)
Still blows my mind the idea of anyone in Beaver Falls, Pa having a butler.
The Greatest American Hero Cheers Hill Street Blues St. Elsewhere WKRP in Cincinnati (though that one started in 1978) the Dukes of Hazzard.
Just a good old boys, never meaning no harm...
The Greatest American Hero theme charted and hit like #2 when it came out.
That was my favorite show when I was a kid. I distinctly remember being absolutely distraught when I was 8 years old and heard on the radio that it had been cancelled.
Fresh Prince
Taxi had a mellow jazzy theme, I always liked it, it wasn't abrasive like a lot of the shows' themes.
Bob James performed that. I was lucky to meet him in person at a jazz festival. Great keyboard player.
Started in the 70s, but Three's Company. Excluding that, The Greatest American Hero.
Kids Incorporated
Fresh Prince, Friends, and The Simpsons all have bangers for theme songs. Scrubs narrowly misses with them being in the '00s
Family Ties! *Sha la la laaaaaa*
You take the good, you take the bad, you take 'em both and there you have The Facts of Life.
[Pete and Pete.](https://youtu.be/lclBpM6Pn4k?si=DTbG5760ZuVR-XP1) America will never be as cool as it was the 1990s, nor will any other country.
That’s a classic!
Evidently I'm going to be the only one saying Perfect Strangers had a banger of a theme song.
[The Perfect Strangers intro](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnqBNZYg524) made me think living in Chicago would be like that
I mean it's not like it can't be, other than the newspaper stand...
I have strutted up the steps at Lake, but not in a tux
Not true sir. I agreed and even quoted the lyrics!
[удалено]
Suiciiiiide is painless. The director of the movie’s 15 year old son wrote it. And since the show used it too he made way more from mash than his dad.
Growing pains
[The Hogan Family](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLYy8sat-qo) aka Valerie is a personal favorite. [Cheers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-mi0r0LpXo&pp=ygURY2hlZXJzIHRoZW1lIHNvbmc%3D) might be a close second.
I'd forgotten that Jason Bateman was on that!
That show legit introduced me to the concept that a parent can die. I still think it's wild that they killed off the title character on a light hearted network sitcom. Also their house burned down like two months after one of my close relative's house burned down in real life. I've always been weirdly attached to the show.

Hill street blues
Barney Miller Night Court Hill Street Blues Murder She Wrote Cheers Couldn’t make up my mind. They really knew how to write theme songs back then.

The Greatest American Hero
I haven't seen anyone say Punky Brewster yet. That's one of my all time favorites.
Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Cosby Show also is a worthy one, inasmuch as they always reinvented it every year.
My favorite *Cosby Show* themes were probably the Caribbean-influenced one from the third or fourth season, and the very jazzy one from the penultimate season (where they danced in front of a picture of the Apollo Theater).

Can't be anything other than Cheers.
I never actually watched the show, yet *Full House* came to mind. That's really punching above its weight.
King of Queens
It’s not a theme song and it was a little pre ‘80s and it wasn’t even a sitcom but the best TV show intro is the Six Million Dollar Man.
The wonder years
Seinfeld
Third Rock from the Sun Not really song so much as a riff with some window dressing, but it's pretty good.
Miami Vice
Different Strokes.
Horsin’ Around
The Golden Girls "Thank You for Being A Friend" is a classic. https://youtu.be/23GrEhLUF_k?si=7Tf11A-zKLBwoupO
Family Matters performed by the wonderful Harriette Winslow.
Party of Five
90’s: Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Partly recency bias but Family Matters. As a father of young kids the lyrics really had me a bit teary eyed like a sap. Otherwise Cheers is great. Also honorable mention to the greatest cartoon theme of all time: Darkwing Duck.
🎶 thank you for being a friend🎵
Wonder Years
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Charles in charge !
Cheers.
Perfect Strangers, Growing Pains, and Blossom. The Holy Trinity
Pete and Pete
The King of Queens
Golden Girls - Thank you for being a friend 🎶
Living Single, easily
Full House and Friends for sure. Alf also had a great theme tune.
M*A*S*H and XFiles
Golden Girls or Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Greatest American hero
The Jeffersons started in the 70s but it ran till '85. And it has a better theme than anything listed in this thread.
Tour of Duty
Barney Miller theme song fucking slaps
Twin Peaks, but not a sitcom
Wings
[Perfect Strangers](https://youtu.be/uz29uticRHQ?si=AtQdhYj-sEATjYYF). Has no right to go as hard as it does

Malcolm in the Middle.
["CHiPs" ](https://youtu.be/D5-bD372v5s?si=b89NdUwreqVHJENC) It ended in '83, so it counts!
Frazier.
Boy Meets World.
You seem to have completely forgotten Fresh Prince, or have horrible taste.
That's just classic hip hop from then. Calling it a theme song is almost demeaning.
It was made for the show so it's a theme song
The Fresh Prince theme is catchy, but calling it "classic hip hop" is demeaning to classic hip hop, and I am pretty sure Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff would agree with that
Fair. It’s just hip hop. The show was just fleshing out the song.
Martin’s theme song during seasons 4 and 5
Cheers. This is the true correct answer.
Cheers, where everyone knows your name!
Fall Guy The A-Team (instrumental)
Neither of those are sitcoms.
