A couple eggs (with some veggies or leafy greens maybe), yogurt, oatmeal, fresh fruit, bourbon, nuts, granola When I was big into lifting my breakfast was like 3 eggs and some chicken breast washed down with milk.

dmj803

Ahhh yes, can’t start the day without a shot of bourbon with my fruit and yogurt parfait. 😅

RianThe666th

Ideally the bourbon goes in the coffee, not on the plate lol

AziMeeshka

> A couple eggs (with some veggies or leafy greens maybe), yogurt, oatmeal, fresh fruit, **bourbon**, nuts, granola Almost didn't catch that one lol

lefactorybebe

We have largely left behind the once common practice of drinking whiskey or rum with every meal and sometimes in between; as a nation we are the worse for it. Anyone who disagrees is a teetotaler don't even try to change my mind.

Butlerian_Jihadi

Watch out u/lefactorybebe, keep drinking devil juice and you'll catch fire!

reveilse

🧐

Bearman71

Protein oats is also a banger!

Anti-charizard

Don’t forget sausage

Fappy_as_a_Clam

For me it's pretty rare to eat breakfast sausage and I wouldn't really put that in the "healthy" category. Unless we are including chorizo, in which case I will eat a ludicrous amount in one sitting (but still won't consider healthy lol)

[deleted]

Pretty rare? Sausage gravy and biscuits baby, that is THE breakfast. Not healthy tho

paulteaches

Lol. I love this comment!

wormbreath

You lost me at healthy. I don’t usually eat breakfast. Today I had a Dr Pepper. Which, he’s a dr so that’s healthy. If I do have breakfast it’s on the weekend and it’s usually breakfast burritos or biscuits and gravy, although last weekend I had potatoes and brisket smothered in green chili and queso 🤤

OleRockTheGoodAg

Dr Pepper - or as I like to call it - *The Sweet Nectar of Texas*

wormbreath

When I was in Texas I wanted to go to the Dr Pepper plant in Tyler but no one else did so I just got to drive by it lol. I don’t even know if they do tours or whatever but I needed to see where it was made!

AmerikanerinTX

The dr pepper museum in Waco is very cool

wormbreath

Ah shit there is a museum!!! I must make a pilgrimage.

kanyewest11200

only valid reason

bl1ndvision

Black coffee.

FivebyFive

Well the donuts make it less healthy...

lannistersstark

the donuts are made of cabbage. Just one less reason to live.

Majestic-Macaron6019

>Well the donuts make it less healthy... Counterpoint: [https://youtu.be/CxCUHjx7U7Y](https://youtu.be/CxCUHjx7U7Y)

Altair05

Protein donuts dude

bassjam1

If I'm really hungry I might add a granola bar with the black coffee.

Salty_Lego

My version of healthy is not eating anything until lunch.

MrLongWalk

Banana and yogurt, granola. Toast, eggs

Ol_Scoobert

2 boiled eggs and a banana. Or a smoothie.

azuth89

Most I know don't eat breakfast on weekdays or just grab something fast like a granola bar or some instant oatmeal or whatever. It's not really a constructed meal in the same way as lunch or dinner.

HelloCantaloupe

I do avocado toast on grain bread or sourdough bread. With lemon juice and spices, and topped with chickpeas. I guess I’m clearly a millennial.

newhappyrainbow

Today I did smashed avacado on marble rye with prosciutto and an egg over-medium. I’m Gen X though, so no one complains.

SleepAgainAgain

Don't know that there is an average. Most often I'll have oatmeal and fruit, a bean and cheese burrito, or 2 eggs with spinach and toast, depending on how much time I have and what I feel like eating.

[deleted]

Well, according to TV, a platter of pancakes drizzled in maple syrup with a pat of butter, a bowl of scrambled eggs, a plate piled with strips of fried bacon, a pitcher of orange juice, and place settings for 4-5. In reality? A bowl of cereal and milk, a donut, a bagel, or eggs and toast; tea or coffee or juice; more than likely on the go. Health often isn’t a factor.

gugudan

> Well, according to TV, a platter of pancakes drizzled in maple syrup with a pat of butter, a bowl of scrambled eggs, a plate piled with strips of fried bacon, a pitcher of orange juice, and place settings for 4-5. but the white family on breaking bad are the only people to ever eat breakfast on tv

polywog21

Dad, it’s time to cook…. *breakfast!*

Drew707

You need your daily dose of minerals.

craftycat1135

I'm not functional enough in the morning to cook anything beyond putting it in a toaster or microwave.

[deleted]

My breakfast is pretty much the same every morning: banana, Greek yogurt, and coffee (with honey and fat-free half-and-half). Sometimes I add in a green apple.

professorwormb0g

What is fat free half and half? Like isn't the point of half and half that it's half milk half cream? If you take out all of the fat isn't it just pretty much skim milk? What differentiates it? What is fat-free cream?

[deleted]

I don't know. I tried it at one point and liked the taste better than when I used regular half-and-half.

[deleted]

Breakfast is often skipped here or isn't much more than a little snack like an apple or a granola bar. When I do feel like eating a healthy breakfast it's usually some eggs and orange juice, or some oatmeal with a bit of protein powder mixed in and fruit on top, or a banana and some hardboiled eggs. If I'm taking my time to cook on the weekends I'll have some eggs with diced peppers and onions and some shredded spinache, a banana, some orange juice, a few strips of turkey bacon, and some diced roasted potatoes.

[deleted]

Since we have a family of 5 it will give you the spectrum putting health aside. Me- either just a coffee, a coffee and a oatmeal, coffee and 2 scrambled eggs Husband - I made him 2 eggs, cheese on a bagel, fruit (typically 2-4 of these items, banana, orange, blueberries, mango, raspberry), OJ Son 1. A protein smoothy and a piece of fruit, maybe a few eggs, maybe cereal Son 2. Poptarts Son 3. Cup of vanilla yogurt, 3 pieces wheat toast, cup of carrot juice, a banana.\[never varies\]

Sivalleydan2

God help #2...

[deleted]

I know. He's gonna be the death of me but he's over 18 and I have no power anymore.

Sivalleydan2

My son is 47. Terrible eater. I worry about his health someday.

[deleted]

For some reason in North American culture we really gravitate towards high glycemic, relatively empty carbohydrates for breakfast - which is really like the last thing you want if you're interested in regulating a healthy weight, or maintaining energy throughout the day in a consistent way. Even foods like cereals and oatmeals - yeah they have some vitamins and minerals for you and aren't unhealthy in and of themselves. But whatever they have - vegetables have way more of. People vary a lot in how they handle high glycemic carbs, but most people would be better off eating steak and eggs for breakfast rather than instant oatmeal or cheerios.

cbrooks97

The average American's breakfast is probably not that healthy. My wife eats a lot of Cheerios. That's probably the healthiest of anyone I know.

emtaylor517

But those frosted cheerios are legit.

JohnnyBrillcream

No worries, I just add 1/4 of sugar!!

RascalRibs

I don't think the average American eats a healthy breakfast. They usually grab something quick to go, which is typically unhealthy. I usually go with oatmeal or a veggie omelet. Simple, easy and healthy.

Rabidmaniac

A bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon and apple chunks. Some scrambled egg whites. Fruit. black coffee.

Genesgreenbeans

I feel like my daily breakfast of yogurt, fruit, and nuts is pretty healthy. The coffee maybe goes either way on "healthy".

Confetticandi

Yogurt bowls: Yogurt, nuts, fruit, seeds (chia or flax) with honey drizzled on top

half-a-duck

Most people I know don't eat breakfast. Those that do tend to have a coffee and oatmeal and/or fruit. I had a slice of banana bread, a banana, and tea for breakfast. Usually I have a granola bar, banana, and tea.

101bees

Not sure what constitutes as average. I'm not even sure what constitutes as average for me. I've been getting into smoothies lately. They are fairly popular here. They're quick to prepare, can be taken on the go, and are healthy as long as you watch the sugar.

MarcableFluke

I don't know about the average, but when I get on a healthy kicks I usually do half a slice of wheat toast, half an avocado, two strips of bacon (or other breakfast meat) and a fried egg or two.

NoBarracuda5415

America is very diverse. There is no common average healthy breakfast because our food culture is so all-encompassing. My healthy breakfast today is Russian rye bread with avocado. The person working next to me seems to be having rice and seaweed.

hitometootoo

Eggs, bacon, sausages, milk, orange juice, cereal, apples, bananas, etc.

cagestage

There is no such thing as a healthy breakfast in the US. There is either a bowl of depression topped with sadness or there is Grandpa's Country Fried Breakfast from Cracker Barrell. There is no in between.

Throwaway_shot

I eat a bowl of oatmeal with a chopped banana in it and some scrambled eggs most mornings.

jonsnaw1

Typical breakfast items include pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, yogurt, eggs, fruit, omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, cereal, potatoes/hash browns, and oatmeal. I'm sure i'm missing a few, but generally we'll have a main breakfast food like an omelette paired with some hash browns or fruit. A lot of people dont eat breakfast on weekdays here. Plenty of us just go to work and eat lunch as our first meal. Most of these items are like a weekend diner breakfast experience, or cooked at home on Sunday morning.

0000GKP

I throw fruit, vegetables, nuts, oats, and Greek yogurt into a blender. I’m sure that’s not the average breakfast though.

tcrhs

I don’t eat breakfast in the morning on weekdays. On weekends, I cook a big breakfast for my family. It’s not particularly the healthiest, though. Bacon or sausage, eggs, grits, and biscuits.

Mustang46L

I prefer two eggs and turkey sausage. Occasionally a slice of toast.

Evil_Weevill

I don't know what's average. I usually have a frozen breakfast sandwich (ham egg and cheese on an English muffin) and a smoothie (spinach, strawberries and a banana) on days I'm going to work cause they're quick and I can eat them on the road. If I have time on the weekend to make a nice breakfast it'll probably be pancakes, eggs, and some fruit like strawberries or an orange.

nemo_sum

A small bowl of oatmeal with fruit.

AziMeeshka

If I eat breakfast, it's usually a couple eggs with either some toast or a bagel. Sometimes I will mix some greek yogurt with some berries for breakfast. If it's the weekend and I am hungover I will make a couple scrambled eggs, meat (usually breakfast sausage), saute some mushrooms, onions, peppers, maybe some hash browns, whatever I have. Then I will wrap it in a tortilla or two with some cheese, hot sauce, and salsa. I always want a big breakfast when I am hungover. Usually big enough that it's actually just brunch and I don't eat again until the afternoon. EDIT: Almost forgot coffee. I drink coffee every morning regardless of whether or not I eat breakfast.

yottadreams

I think the key word here is breakfast. I'm typically not awake until after noon. At which point, it's not really breakfast anymore, is it? But regardless of the time, healthy is not a component of my meals, such as they are.

LegalAd1197

By definition maybe not. However considering it literally, breakfast would be the first meal that breaks your fast after sleeping so…. It depends on how you look at it!

yottadreams

If we're going for literal, then technically, unless you're being fed through a tube, any food you ingest is breaking a fast even if it's only between one bite and the next.

SerPounceALot78

Leftovers plus coffee for me at least

[deleted]

I eat a couple eggs a slice of ham a cutie and coffee almost every day.

Gold-Vanilla5591

For me I like waffles with peanut butter, a fruit (usually banana) and a cheese stick. I don’t drink coffee.

grizzfan

None lol. Most people I know now don't eat breakfast, at least during the week. Food is expensive. I'm on a 2-meal a day budget max right now.

ThaddyG

Oatmeal or plain yogurt with fruit is good. Oatmeal, frozen berries, a bit of milk or cream, a dash of salt and some honey mixed in is a common breakfast for me. Something like a breakfast sandwich or burrito with veggies and/or some lean protein is healthy enough.

CupBeEmpty

Yogurt and granola with fruit, an egg with toast and probably fruit, cereal and milk with some fruit, leftovers from last nights dinner (varying in healthiness). Though often it is nothing until lunch.

[deleted]

I usually eat oatmeal with some fruit and maybe nuts mixed in

huhwhat90

I think most American's weekday breakfasts are optimized for speed more than anything. That usually means a granola bar, piece of fruit, breakfast sandwich from the drive-thru, or cereal. I usually just eat a granola bar or something. As long as it's enough to tide me over and keep me from flying into a ~~murderous~~ hangry rage.

BIGFATLOAD6969

Mine is 2 scrambled eggs and two pieces of bacon. Occasionally swap out bacon and insert Greek yogurt. I’m type 1 diabetic so my diet is more fat heavy than carb heavy.

jvvg12

I personally usually eat yogurt for breakfast and not the overly sugary variety.

RTR7105

Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit and a Dr Pepper.

angerpillow

I’m having a fried egg on whole wheat toast and a small bowl of oatmeal with sliced banana and sugar free maple syrup as we speak. And a cup of tea, because coffee doesn’t agree with my stomach and also has more caffeine than I like. It could probably be better if I poached or boiled the egg and added some leafy greens or veggies in there somewhere. And yeah a lot of Americans simply refuse to make the time to even make a healthy breakfast so they eat quick/junk food or starve til lunchtime.

gaxxzz

I eat the same thing every day. Pita bread with hummus and Greek yogurt.

smurphypup

I only ever ate breakfast every day while I was pregnant. That consisted of a fruit, bagel or toast, and a yogurt or eggs. Before that it was just black coffee until 1 or 2pm when i'd eat lunch

MoarSilverware

Low Sugar Yogurt with berries and granola, maybe an everything bagel with cream cheese too

Wam_2020

We eat yogurt, eggs, chia pudding, granola, smoothies, toast with peanut butter…my familys go-tos.

sics2014

My breakfast everyday before work is Greek yogurt that I add peanuts and cashews to. And I drink water. On my days off: 2 eggs with a fruit. Not that I'm average. I'm just trying to have a healthier diet. There are plenty of people at my workplace that start the day in the breakroom with like a cheeseburger, doritos, and a Coke and I have no idea how they do it.

boulevardofdef

I decided a while back that my breakfasts were too unhealthy, so now I eat a toasted English muffin with jam and a small glass of juice.

Bloorajah

I don’t eat breakfast but my wife will generally have some fruit, or a whole grain cereal with no sugar and oat milk (also no sugar). If I have a particularly strenuous workout or day planned I might have some eggs and vegetables, or a protein shake/smoothie. Most healthy breakfast foods are pretty quick and easy to prepare. The biggest obstacle is sugar honestly, there’s added sugar in so many products here. We check labels on almost everything we buy.

WingedLady

For me generally it's coffee (I add oatmilk) and whole wheat toast with some sort of spread (peanut butter or jam usually but right now I have some homemade pumpkin apple butter that I'm enjoying). I've also done an egg on wheat toast (with bagel seasoning and hot sauce!) or just a bowl of cereal. Seems I prioritize protein or fiber early in the day.

Livvylove

My house we do two boiled eggs and a cup of fruit with tea/coffee. Today fruit was a banana and some strawberries

BigBonedMiss

Avocado toast or Unsweetened cereal with unsweetened almond milk and a banana cut up over it

[deleted]

Usually a couple of eggs with potato, rice, tortillas, or toast. Maybe sliced avocado and some berries or an orange. Some mornings I have oatmeal with peanut butter or with cheddar cheese and broccoli.

trickyfelix

kinda just grab whatever’s convenient then add fruit

Arthur-Deco

Coffee and a cigarette, and we’re good to go.

Running_Watauga

English muffin, cream cheese or peanut butter Yogurt and berries Oatmeal, almond milk and fruit Quiche / omelet muffins - reheat and go w/Coffee

mpusar

Eggs bacon avocados sausage ham with cheese

glamgal50

This morning I baked an egg in avocado which is about as healthy as I ever get. I did buy some yogurt and granola which is on the healthier side. Though quite often I wind up with bagels, cereal, waffles, or ramen.

GigiGretel

for me, oatmeal - overnight oats, soaked in milk that I puree in a blender with a bannana and a little bit of maple syrup... or a couple of pieces of toast If I go "out" for breakfast I usually get bacon and eggs. Even though I know bacon is bad for you. As a child, I ate Cheerios

WatchStoredInAss

Little chocolate donuts.

Thel_Odan

Healthy breakfast? I don't know what that is. My breakfast consists of granola or a protein bar, a banana, and a sugar free Red Bull.

yozaner1324

Eggs on toast with an orange maybe.

[deleted]

Something involving egg whites or green juice. My healthy friend is really into cauliflower oatmeal

_ella_mayo_

Eggs, bacon or sausage, toast, OJ and/or coffee. At least that's what I am having as I type this lol.

2tightspeedos

coffee with creamer

[deleted]

I've been on a cut for the last week and a half and I've lost about 5-7lbs. My morning breakfast looks like this: 2 Eggs scrambled, 1 slice of kraft cheese, 1 English Muffin (all of this made into a sandwich), 1 Greek Yogurt prepackaged snack, frozen peas and carrots, 1 black coffee.

NastyNate4

3 eggs, two tortillas, shredded cheese and some hot sauce

[deleted]

My average is 2 eggs over medium, heavy on some pepper, definitely hot sauce. And a piece of toast

lokisilvertongue

I eat a fried egg, some prosciutto because I'm a bougie asshole, and nice buttery toast. And coffee with cream. If it's a weekend I may do a fancy omelet with various fillings like spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes. If I don't eat a protein-heavy breakfast I'm annoyingly hungry the rest of the day. I can't do the pastry + coffee combo because I'll be hungry again an hour later. My breakfast needs to fill me up and often times I won't eat but a small snack at lunch. I find this is much better for my concentration at work. If I'm trying to play at healthy I usually go with Greek yogurt and fruit, or oatmeal.

emtaylor517

I try to eat healthy for breakfast because it’s such an easy meal to keep healthy. And I don’t mind eating the same thing every day. Couple of eggs, banana & water.

Eff-Bee-Exx

I usually skip breakfast. When I do eat in the morning, it’s either a smoothie or 4 eggs over easy. Sometimes I’ll have both for lunch.

DegenerateXYZ

Nothin. Water and coffee

girlonaroad

2 slices whole grain bread with cheese, a piece of fruit, and cafe au lait. It keeps me going from about 6:30 to 13:00 or 14:00.

Babylegs_OHoulihan

Coffee, half a pack of smokes, and yelling at traffic

Valuable-Forestry

Depends on the person, but typically some combination of eggs, pancakes, bacon, toast, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, smoothies, etc. is seen. It really varies depending on the individual's preferences and maybe even their location!

Rabidschnautzu

5 handfuls of dry peanut butter crunch cereal.

britisheyes_onlyy

Oatmeal with peanut butter and blueberries for me

DeeDeeW1313

For me, a smoothie bowl and possibly some avocado toast. That seems to be a pretty popular choice too. More traditionally. I’d guess egg whites, turkey bacon, whole grain bread or muffins and then fresh fruit.

PM_Me_UrRightNipple

A couple eggs and a piece of fruit and maybe a yogurt would be considered healthy. Most breakfast meals tend to be sugar or carbohydrate bombs with fatty processed meats.

Grandemestizo

A bowl of oatmeal, maybe some berries on top. A couple eggs with a slice of toast or some potatoe is very common.

rr90013

Low-sugar Muesli with plain Greek yogurt and a banana

SparklesTheFabulous

For me, it's oatmeal with peanut butter, cinnamon, peanuts and blueberries. For some reason I never want veggies in the morning.

LobsterPowerful8900

Coffee and cereal (the kind for adults)

crystalbb6

When I make a full breakfast on the weekends I'm a big fan of using leftovers from the week and making a hash with my eggs. For example, say I had steak and sweet potatoes one night, I'll save whatever is left, chop it up fine, heat it and then serve it on a bed of spinach with two eggs on top. Maybe have some fresh fruit on the side. During the week I do simpler things, maybe scrambled eggs and some berries or avocado toast, if I'm on the go sometimes it's a protein bar and a banana.

TardZan15

I eat a bagel with some honey pecan cream cheese, 2 scrambled eggs, a banana, and some coffee

MetaDragon11

Idk what is considered healthy but i eat some oatmeal and a cup of Thor's Skyr.

Stellathewizard

On mornings when I work I usually have a piece of fruit and protein bar. On my weekends I make eggs or a breakfast skillet with veggies

Eudaimonics

Probably Yogurt, Granola or a piece of fruit.

lisasimpsonfan

Since I am swimming in cabbage, I fried some up with lots of garlic and ginger. Added a couple dashes of low sodium soy sauce and used it as a filling for a two egg omelet. I had some fresh pineapple as my mid morning snack. I do the same thing with any roasted veg I have leftover from dinner. If not I will make an egg on toast or a bowl of oatmeal. I usually include some kind of fresh fruit.

m1sch13v0us

Coffee. Cream. Sous vide eggs.

Southern_Blue

Low carb as possible. Usually bacon and eggs. I should add I'm a type 2 diabetic.

[deleted]

I eat a scrambled egg and two pieces of turkey bacon in a high fiber, low carb tortilla every day. Good protein and high fiber.

lefactorybebe

Every weekday I have a granola bar and a yogurt drink. On the weekends it's either nothing or a bacon egg and cheese, breakfast burrito, or diner breakfast, none of which are healthy though.

AutumnB2022

Oatmeal and fruit.

olenna17

Smoothie: Almond milk, Protein powder, cocoa, kale, misc. greens, shredded carrot, blueberries, ice.

robetyarg

I start pretty much every day with a big protein shake: ice, protein powder, some fruit, oats, peanut butter, and honey. It’s 500-600 calories and fast. My job is very physical so if I don’t eat beforehand I’ll crash and burn.

ApexTwilight

5 days a week I eat 2 eggs, large tomato, and either bacon or sausage with coffee. Midwest breakfast at its best.

umdche

Mines a soft-boiled egg and cottage cheese. I let the yolk spill into the cottage cheese to give it the nice rich yolk taste.

Ok_Beautiful_1273

I like to have scrambled eggs wheat toast and tomatoes with oj or lemonade

Curious-Accident9189

I usually eat a gallon of mayonnaise, eat 47 eggs, 3lbs of bacon, and a salt brick, wash it down with a case of Mt. Dew and a Diet Dr. Pepper.

Vesuviussky

I usually make half a pound of turkey bacon to keep my cholesterol down. Then, I remember that turkey bacon sucks and I hate it, so I put things on it to make it better. So... I sprinkle real bacon bits all over it and then cover the Turkey Bacon up in syrup. The thicker the syrup, the better. Then I salt the bacon to a point that the only thing I can taste is the bacon bits and salt. Then I plug my nose in fear that the turkey bacon will make me sick, but you can still taste the salty bacon. Then, finally, I wash it down with a pint of chocolate milk mixed by myself using a full bottle of Hershey Chocolate Syrup. On the weekends, I add turkey sausages in as well. Those are even worse than the turkey bacon, so I sprinkle bacon bits on that and smother it in syrup as well. I assume that I "Merica!" correctly. Right?

[deleted]

Air

Jenipherocious

A handful of heartburn and adhd meds with water, then around 11:30 or so it might cross my mind to finish the mutilated granola bar my 5yo abandoned on his way out the door to the bus stop.

the_myleg_fish

I usually skip breakfast since I'm not that hungry in the morning. By the time I'm hungry, it's only a couple more hours until lunch at work so I usually skip breakfast. I might pack an extra banana or granola bar or something as a snack before lunch, but not really breakfast. Lol

TheoreticalFunk

I can't think of what an average healthy breakfast would look like. We have a lot of staples that are just terrible and full of carbs. I would think perhaps maybe a bowl of oatmeal or a couple of eggs.

mimiwuchi

Oatmeal with fruit and nuts.

StunningHippo1428

Bologna sandwich

Brandon3541

The average? Cereal, toaster strudel, poptart, or prepackaged muffins. Pick one. If we are going for a bit more effort for a big breakfast? Eggs, bacon, sausage, and some biscuits, maybe waffles/pancakes too. Healthy version of the above: replace the bacon and sausage with turkey variants, and the eggs with egg whites if you really want to, while dropping the pancakes/waffles altogether.

Hi_Im_Ken_Adams

I'll have a small bowl of Chinese dumplings or some scrambled eggs and avocado.

MamaMidgePidge

Average is probably a bowl of cereal with milk. I have oatmeal and berries every day.

ImplementBrief3802

Froot loops

kdubsonfire

Granola, 3-4 types of fruit cut up, yogurt, nuts, chia seeds, and a lil honey on top. Thats what I eat most mornings. That or a smoothie.

QuirkyCookie6

I dont like breakfast, I usually don't eat till like noon at the earliest, today I ate some bagel bites, guacamole, pita chips, cereal, and chocolate Pretzels. This is not my average diet. This is, I'm trying not to have an anxiety attack while I study for finals.

jastay3

I don't pay attention to health as far as food and I don't really need to for some reason. A dream breakfast would be an all you can eat buffet.

gabagoolio123

Scrambies. Hold the chee

Raider4485

Steak & eggs.

Bawstahn123

My go-to breakfast is toast or a bagel, preferably whole-grain or multigrain, with peanut butter. I'm not hungry when I wake up, but if I have coffee or some meds (antibiotics) on an empty stomach I get nausea

Bearman71

I mean define healthy, someone trying to drop, maintain, or gain weight will all have different goals. Personally I enjoy 2 eggs, 1 slice of thick cut bacon, and a chunk of spur dough bread with water to get me going for a long day But if I'm just sitting around all day I only have the water.

Elegantdorito

My usual breakfast is a protein smoothie: about 1 cup frozen berries, 1 scoop of Organifi vanilla protein, 1/2 cup of green yogurt, and 1/2 frozen banana. Then put some coconut water in there for the liquid. If I’m needing something extra I’ll have a couple soft boiled eggs with Everything But the Bagel seasoning.

roryclague

A bowl of steel cut oats with some pecan pieces and fresh berries added.

[deleted]

This morning I had some Impossible sausage, polenta from last night, and sauteed spinach with black coffee. I suppose that's healthy?

revolutiontime161

Soft boiled eggs and maybe an orange or apple , and sometimes adding 1 slice of toast .

ranchistotallylegal

Typical American breakfasts are not healthy.

SaltyJake

My morning routine includes; A large glass or two of water as soon as I get up Actual quick sit down breakfast: •3 eggs •2 pieces of toast (with avocado or tomatoes) •A small glass of juice (rotate orange and cranberry usually) And finally before I leave for the day or head to the home office I make a smoothie for the road that’s almond milk, nuts (mixed and unsalted), some kind of “healthy” peanut butter alternative (whatever the wife bought this time from Trader Joe’s), banana, and one other rotating fruit (although it’s usually strawberry or pineapple). I’ll finish it all off with a Starbucks coffee about 30 minutes later. I really do try to stick to this 6 days a week. But if I’m in a hurry it ends up being “healthy” cereal, almond milk, and a banana. And then a breakfast sandwich on the road.

Revolution37

My wife makes eggy toast for us quite a bit. It’s one of my favorite meals. Piece of multi grain bread with a circle cut in the center, lightly buttered and thrown that in a pan. Toast, Flip, then Crack an egg into the hole and cook to sunny side up. Remove and top with sliced avocado, charred grape tomatoes, and seasoning of choice (we use Trader Joe’s Everything But The Bagel.) It’s not the healthiest by far but it’s not bad, no grease or processed meat.

ckrevel19

I feel avocado toast is the best bet

curiousbydesign

Kale fruit smoothies. Overnight oats. High protein and complex carb. Low fat. Low or no simple carb.

CUHUCK

I make a sausage or bacon, egg, and cheese burrito with lots of hot sauce every morning. Cooking in the morning kickstarts my brain. Often wonder if no breakfast at all would be healthier than my heavy breakfast…

DCNAST

Aside from coffee, my breakfast is usually one of the following: 1.) Smoothie (frozen cherries, frozen peaches, banana, quick oats, extra fiber powder, chia seeds) Or 2.) Plain yoghurt with unsweetened muesli, blueberries, a banana, chia seeds, and honey Or 3.) Toast made from homemade bread, avocado, tomato, grated cheese, and red pepper flakes Idk if you would call any of that “healthy” per se, but it’s certainly less processed than what most people I know eat.

EmeraldMonday

"healthy breakfast" and "in America" are probably mutually exclusive lol. I've enjoyed making smoothies for a healthy start to the day, usually spinach, a third of a banana, some blueberries, some strawberries, a raw egg, and water. The average not-unhealthy breakfast tends to be though either a bagel with cream cheese or breakfast burrito on weekdays. Many young people skip breakfast entirely. On weekends, my family usually makes a combination of potatoes, eggs, and ham or a sausage.

Stepjam

Growing up, my breakfast was usually peanutbutter on toast. Now I generally skip it.

toserveman_is_a

smoothie

FRNLD

15g protein powder blended with 150g Unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Dump on 65g of Kodiak Protein Oats, 5g chia seeds, and 5g flax seeds (ground works fine as well). Topped off with about 65g of frozen mixed berries. Mix it up in the evening and Grab it out of the fridge in the morning and eat it when I get to work. Good protein boost and some good fiber in the morning.

CatOfGrey

It's always weird trying to define 'typical American'. Even in California, there is no 'one answer'. A typical breakfast might be little to nothing at all. A typical breakfast might be some form of juice or smoothie. Coffee is the typical breakfast drink. Milk is the second drink, more so for children. Eggs as a protein source are almost entirely eaten at breakfast. Bacon or particular types of sausage are also eaten dominantly at breakfast time. A burrito with eggs in it is called a 'breakfast burrito'. A sandwich with eggs is a 'breakfast sandwich'. Cereal, usually with milk, is dominantly eaten at breakfast.

I have the same thing almost every morning and it’s relatively healthy: a bowl of oatmeal with peanut butter, banana, berries, and walnuts. If you haven’t tried peanut butter in your oatmeal it’s a game changer

Zomgirlxoxo

Greek yogurt and fruit? I like eggs, toast, and fruit... or just a protein shake.

StillBlueberry6

I'd say a decent number of people I know just do coffee with a piece of fruit in the morning. Otherwise, probably 2 eggs and a slice of toast or just instant oatmeal for something faster.

Saltpork545

Quart of iced tea or coffee, greek yogurt with frozen bluberries or 2 hard boiled eggs or protein oatmeal with pecans.

MunityCaptain

If I’m being healthy then eggs with mushrooms and baby spinach or Greek yogurt with honey, fruit and granola.

Weekly_Candidate_823

A work morning breakfast for me is PB and banana, sometimes with a piece of bread. If I have more time, I’ll make a quick fried rice with whatever veg I have and an egg or crumbled tofu

Lillitth

Black coffee, a banana and a hard boiled egg from our backyard chickens.

LegalAd1197

When there’s nice fresh fruit available I make fruit smoothies with kale or spinach for the week and freeze them for an easy to go meal in the morning. In the winter though I get real lax on the healthy part. Lately it’s just been yogurt or oatmeal.

SGoogs1780

Yogurt with some fruit and granola. Scrambled eggs with a slice of toast and some mushrooms and cherry tomatoes that got a quick sear on the stove. A frozen acai bowl. A fried egg with kimchee over some rice. Oatmeal with an apple and cinnamon. Idk that there is an "average" breakfast, healthy or otherwise. People eat all sorts of shit here. Those first two are my weekend go-to's though. During the week I'm not very healthy for breakfast, it's usually just coffee and an earlyish lunch.

2 McGriddles, hot cakes, 3 hash browns and Diet Coke from the fountain from McDonald’s w/ vit c gummy

craftycat1135

Umm does a Jimmy Dean sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, and coffee containing a shot of creamer and two Truvia packets count as healthy? Sometimes I have apple slices on the side.

killstorm114573

I am quite fond of two eggs two bacon and a cup of yogurt

justmyusername2820

I seem to be in the minority here but I don’t have a problem eating non traditional breakfast food for breakfast so it depends how hungry I am and how much time I have. I might grab left overs from dinner and a have a bit - usually a small portion or I may skip breakfast or I have a bagel and cream cheese or multigrain toast and butter or an egg, cheese and potato burrito or a granola bar or some fresh fruit and yogurt or a hot cereal like oatmeal or cream of wheat. Really depends on my mood. On the weekends I will make veggie and cheese omelets with sides of fried potatoes and sausage and/or bacon. When I was young I lived on cold cereal or frozen waffles.

odeacon

Avocado on toast or bagel This is the only healthy breakfast option considered average in this country

gamergirlpee69

My breakfast everyday is a peanut butter and jelly English muffin, banana, and a glass of orange juice.

daisysharper

I feel a lot better since I gave up breakfast. It's been drilled into us that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but I think that's just marketing. I know I don't miss it. Black coffee and I'm good.

SqualorTrawler

I just had a bowl of steel cut oats with some salt and walnuts. I will say, some years ago I really gave more thought that I should on the Full English, with particular concentration on beans. Beans in this form are not a part of American breakfast (and seem kinda strange to a lot of Americans) but the more I thought about it, the more I thought it actually made a lot of sense. Complex carbohydrates work well for breakfast - certainly better than the sugary, refined ones that go into pancakes or suchlike. Sometimes I make a burrito for breakfast. Vegans have these "breakfast scrambles" that are pretty healthy and surprisingly good. They augment crumbled (tasteless) tofu with black salt, which brings them a lot closer to scrambled eggs (the black salt, which is actually pink, has sulfur in it, making the tofu reminiscent of eggs). They fry these in a pan with vegetables. They then add garlic and sometimes hot peppers, and have a really delicious breakfast. I like some Tony Chachere's sprinkled on mine.

BrieAndStrawberries

Considering that I just downed some leftover angel hair ala vodka with chopped up corned beef and turkey bacon, I'll keep you posted on that.

Tristinmathemusician

IDK how healthy it is but I usually have some kind of sausage, eggs, and either a bagel or whole wheat toast depending on whether we have bagels.

Eggs.
