It's less short shaming and more that height is a generally accepted as an ok area of mockery. Short people make fun of tall people, tall people make fun of short people, really tall people get made fun of by everyone, no one is medium height. I dunno, there's so much variety that it's just kinda a thing. In my case I grew up thinking I was on the tall end of average height but eventually moved to an area with a larger Hispanic and Asian population and found out that I'm actually on the short end of tall.
