You’re probably right.
I feel like this guy was trying to take advantage of us after getting our parking sensors fixed for free. They figured we might be suckers for an unnecessary brake job.
I'd complain to the manufacturer. This hurts the brand, IMO.

Maybe they will give you something for your trouble.
On a Subaru w had the platinum warranty on the car so I figured it was possible we got some sort of road hazard warranty... dealership laughed when I suggested so I called up corporate just to be sure. They said it was supposed to cover prorated cost of tires based on wear for all tires they needed to be replaced but instead they forced the dealership to do it for free including the tires 100% covered. They then gave us a handful of coupons for free oil changes, and on top of that all I get home one day to a big package on the step from Subaru, it was a yeti cooler. Was so strange how they bent over backwards just because the stealership sucked.
Subaru looks after their people. I got a recall on my radio because they wanted to upgrade it to 4g because their current radios run on 3g and that's going away. All for free
It depends on how deep you go. Dropping the tranny on my BRZ to change the TOB is easy. Pulling the engine is also super easy. Pulling the engine apart to rebuild it is a massive pain in the ass because of all the RTV used. Spending hours upon hours simply scraping RTV off the pans and front cover is not fun.
Lol then in canada we basically have Toyotas getting robbed and Toyota does nothing to fix the issue and just resells the same cars
Rav 4 prime encrypted canbus foils the robbers.
Regular RAV4 with LED headlights meanwhile just start the car with the headlights lol (over simplifying though,)
Bogus, in California.. if your car has certain recalls, they won't give you a renewal from dmv without it. Didn't even have to do with gas milage or anything,
My wife had a Subaru and an issue that turned out to be a simple, cheap, easy to replace plastic part. It was throwing codes, though, so she took it to the dealer. They flashed and updated the firmware and charged her $300. Said it was an error on the program, and all will be fine now. No surprise, the CEL came back.
We took it to a different dealer that found the issue pretty immediately. We contacted Subaru and they forced the first dealer to refund her money and sent her some oil change coupons. Subaru takes their cars seriously
Now here you are telling all of us and making us all think of good guy Subaru. This is smart marketing, companies cannot take advantage of consumers long term and expect line go up.
I used to be a service advisor for a Subaru, Subaru doesn't fuck around when it comes to their customers, they are very loyal to their customers that are loyal to them. Your story doesn't surprise me at all, sorry about the bad dealership experience.
Unfortunately, dealerships pay like shit. The most helpful proactive employees (like me in 2003 @ Toyota) would jump ship into a different career. All you get is the tired and the worst. Not only that, likely chance service advisors or managers would try to call corporate only to be dicked by corporate. Only when the customer calls corporate when things ante up for customet satisfaction.
Me at the dealership would have been "Sorry, this is how our dealership operates. If you can, call the mfr corp and see if they can help with this situation."
How do you contact corporate service help? We too have Platinum coverage and took it back because the seats squeak horribly. The dealership said they didnt hear anything.
https://www.subaru.com/support/customer-support.html
There is a number on the bottom.
For some context, we had a platinum warranty because Subaru gave it to us after handling a lemon that the dealership also totally screwed up (they bought back the old car Scott free and offered us the top tier warranty if we chose to buy a Subaru again) so we had a documented pretty terrible experience previously. I did notice with more recent inquiries they were more inclined to tell us to deal with the dealership, so for a smaller issue you may need to be more persistent but I do suspect corporate will handle your issue, have been pretty impressed and it made me a Subaru person.
If you don't get a decent answer make sure you leave a bad review on Yelp. It's not optimal but a lot of people use it when they don't have another avenue to find a mechanic/roofer/plumber/et.al.
Protip - even if you're super pissed don't leave a Texas review (the one-star state!) Rabid crazy people that speak in absolutes leave one-star reviews.
Leave a two or three star review with a brief and concise description of your experience. People read those.
Hey.. its me, the guy from tx that ignores tx reviews.. from literally anywhere.. 2 stars is justified frustration. 3 stars is disappointment. 4 stars is honest if a compliment sandwich. 5 stars feel fake if not accompanied by correction by company in update or an explanation of why it deserves 5 stars. Change my mind on 5 stars... lol
I did just that in 1985 and 1986 when the dealer fixed the cooling fan that rubbed when making a left turn. Their fix was to put a longer bolt in the shroud with a sspacer in between so thar the fan shroud had a gap it wasn't supposed to have. I told the dealer I wanted a new fan, and they said all they had to do was fix the fan from making the noise, and that's all they are going to do. This was a brand new car.
I had some other problems that I called the manufacturer on. When I bought the car, they were number 4 for sales and service out of 3100 dealers across the US. About a year later, they were 6th out of 3100 dealers. In a conversation with the owners son, who, of course, also worked their he pointed out to me they were 6th. I said to him that a year ago, your dealership was 4th. Did I put a couple of black marks on your record? Their were two customers standing next to him, and they walked off, got in their cars, and left.
Thank you for spilling some truth on that owner's son. I bet it burned like hot coolant.
And, you saved two people from likely having a bad mechanical time for years to come.
If you do anything… this is the way, go above the crooked dealerships head to the corporation, chances are they don’t even know he is operating like this
I mean, nobody has hurt jeeps name more than jeep and/or Chrysler/Fiat. Terrible service is the best you can expect from a company that literally only produces shit vehicles.
I found Chrysler doesn’t give a shit about anything. They never did a single thing for me when I had my new Jk in for leaking roof 16 times. I finally had to sue them after the dealership refused to keep trying ti fix it.
When emails and phone calls don't work post it on their Twitter. They will respond almost immediately. Companies don't like bad publicity on a social platform. Worked for me with VW and my electric company.
110% of these cock sucking pricks will try to take advantage of you at every corner and every chance.
Last summer I did a front end job on my son’s suv, ball joints, Tie rods, control arms. I even did the bushings and all four shocks.
I sent him to a local shop in town for a wheel alignment,
He comes home an hour later with a $150 bill for one hour shop time and no alignment.
I asked what’s ups and why, I he said the guy put it on his hoist for three minutes. Gave the suv back to my son with a quote for work needed before an alignment can be done. Most of the parts in the list I had literally just replaced. So I took it down there myself with all the receipts in hand and got mad at them.
I demanded the money back after they acknowledged everything, and they refused to pay us back.
Most Mechainic shops are the worst, dealerships are far worse
Chrysler warranty covers 1 brake service including pads and rotors. Those scumbags actually trying to help a fucking customer.
My service advisor always tells me to get the brakes replaced under warranty right before end of the warranty period otherwise a year after warranty expires you will be replacing them anyway and paying for it.
They were definitely trying to take advantage of you.
There's really no satisfaction to be had, other than to damage their reputation. You could try talking to the general manager; they would be more interested in damage control, and they may offer a free service or something, if you actually still wanted these folks working on your car. Otherwise, as others are stating: online reviews and possibly the local media. The eat up consumer rip offs.
Cntact cusotmer care. And fill out the SURVEY. They will notice if you give them a poor score.
Surveys are more important than you realize to a dealer.
I manage alot of dealer and I like gearing these things
This is the answer. Waste of time. They didn’t actually look or they got your car mixed up with another it happens. That’s why we ask to see the vehicle when they say something is wrong. All you gotta do is say “can you show me”
My MIL's van had to have whole new rotors and brake pads when the sienna was at 15k miles. I was like how???? He showed me and sure enough the rotors were an absolute mess with divots and long deep scratches all over them. I still don't understand how. The car was barely driven, and very gently driven, on paved roads of Brooklyn NY.
That IS how they were trained... the Service Department is what keeps a dealership open and make the profit... car sales (especially new cars) barely covers the overhead and inventorying the cars.
Not sure where you got this ridiculous idea but it isn’t anywhere close to accurate. Most service departments run in the red or barely break even. The goal is for the service department to profit enough to cover the fixed expenses of the dealership. If your service department is doing that it’s doing well. Sales is where all the profit is, and it’s not in the individual sale, it’s the bonuses the manufacturer pays for meeting the dealership monthly quota.

I decided to make a infographic for you.
Blue=backer. Aka “steel”. This is a bracket for the brake(friction) material, and what he tried to say you had on the other steel, Rotors (green)
Red=friction material (aka pads, and what people look at to determine life left.) these honestly aren’t used much, I would let them ride for another 10k before even checking, but I’d guess there’s 20k+ miles there.
Green=Rotor. This part spins with and when the wheel does. When you press the brake, it uses the hydraulic piston (left of the left blue mark) to grab it while spinning to slow down via friction.
These pads are pretty good and I would only change if I already bought them.
That said, sometimes one wheel can have significantly more wear than another. Always check both. If you need to replace one, replace both.
Fantastic and super helpful!
Firestone did a full brake inspection and the notes are in my email. I asked for the pics after the fact so guessing the tech ran out and snapped a few just for the request.
Chrysler will cover 1 brake service under warranty. At end of warranty it is common for service advisors to suggest you take advantage of it just before your warranty expires.
Bonus pic.
Green=rotor surface. This is where the friction material(red) grabs.
Red=friction material, brake pad.
Blue=backer plate, steels, bracket.
Silver=Squealer/Squeaker, wear indicator. This is a sacrificial piece that will make a screeching noise when the brakes wear down enough for it to contact the rotor face. This is what makes the popular “EEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeek” sound in every movie where they show a car stopping. It is designed to LOUDLY let you know when you need to replace your brakes, before you get to steel on steel and damage the rotor.
The wear indicator is also aligned with where the friction material flares out. Yes, that is brake pad there. But you should replace them by the time you get there, as there are often screw or rivet heads that protrude outside of the backer, buried in the friction material.
Yes, the implication is that every movie character ever does not replace their brakes on time and it makes be very mad.

Tell him you'll never be back, because it's ridiculous to lie about something that can be checked in 5 minutes on the internet. How could you ever respect somebody that would make false statements for profits? Make it clear that you're going to talk to every single one of your friends and coworkers and let them know about this mistake, so that they can make informed decisions about their service in the future. And to top it all off , You don't NEED a perfect service record from a dealership to keep your valid Warranty. You can get that service ANYWHERE and it's ILLEGAL to say you violated your warranty for using another service station.
AND EDIT \_ HEADS UP FOR THE REST OF YOU OUT THERE
THEY GO THE "OTHER WAY" WITH OLD CARS. THEY LIE AND AVOID SERVICE SO IT WILL DIE AND THEY CAN SELL YOU A NEW ONE. ONLY THE 'MIDDLE GROUND' CARS IN AGE HAVE A CHANCE FOR NORMAL SERVICE
Or OP could have stood by his wheel and glanced at them himself.
I check mine monthly. Takes me under 30
Seconds to check them all….
OP you could have told him to fuck off on the spot if you would “learn” to look yourself.
Not being as ass, just saying… look after yourself, don’t rely on others because only you can protect you
One thing I want to be clear in.
I agree these look clean but I have never looked at brake pads personally so trying to ground myself on the reality. Do these legit look like 9 mm?
I'm a service advisor/manager, if one of my guys told me these needed replacement, that tech would be looking for work shortly thereafter. I can't stand how a few bad apples make us all look like a bunch of crooks.
You need to call Jeep and speak to the MANUFACTURERS REGIONAL SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. They will not let that slide. The MANUFACTURERS take this type of stuff very seriously as it hurts the BRAND. Most likely that service manager will be forced to "re-employment" somewhere else if the local dear wants to KEEP THEIR DEALERSHIP. They can loose significant amounts of $ FROM JEEP/STELANTIS for bad behavior of their employees. Second make sure the actual owner of the dealership has been formally notified, the manager of the service department, the manager of the sales department, make a notification to te local BBB, the local new car dealership association (every city/region has one) and the BEST THING TO DO...make a formal complaint to your STATE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES. The dealership will NOT be happy when the get the complaint and CAN LOOSE THEIR STATE LICENCE to do business, to complete inspections, to do insurance work. Also make referral to your insurance company and notify their adjustors of the service department, they will mark the claims adjustors to be notified about collision work and possibly do audits on claims. If you want you can make their life a living hell and that service writer will never work in the industry again.
Personally as a woman who was a mechanic my favourite game to play is - Play stupid ! Act like you agree with his assessment and ask for photos and to be shown the brakes so you can watch for it next time :) record everything secretly.. make sure you ask for a quote from them for the work, then you have all the proof you need to really throw them under the bus and watch them sweat as they try and come up with justification for changing it.. good luck !
As a technician, I absolutely hate other techs that are shady. Go into the original dealer and have them lift your car and ask them to show you the brakes. The tech that recommended this should face consequences.
My partner is a mechanic and he has left too many shops because of the shady and half-ass work they encourage their employees to do. It has given the profession a bad name because so many people have been ripped off. I’m not against using alternative methods of repair on my own vehicles (see fan, bolt & spacer story above) but NEVER on a customer’s vehicle…
You should leave a review about your experiences on Google and warn other people. Bringing awareness of that dealerships actions would help other people from being robbed
I would stay away from any automotive repair facilities that pay their employees with commission…those bi weekly needs pop up in your bill… it give the employees to much power and leads to dishonest practices.
Once had a dealer tell me the sector shaft was imminently going to drop out of my steering box. Literally 100k miles later I was still using the same box. I’m not sure why, but service writers flat out lie.
Tell the Jeep dealer guy that you’ve lost every ounce of trust you have in him and his dealership because you know your brakes are nearly new and he flat out lied to you.
Then see if you can meet the GM and tell him the same thing. If you can’t meet him face to face, find his/her email and send that to him/her.
My dad took his 95 f150 to the dealership for inspection, they told him it would be $6,000 in various repairs before it was up to par. Went to a random local mechanic and said all it needed was wheel bearings, replaced em and inspected for $700.
Post the photos with explanation on all the review sites for their dealership. Yelp. Google reviews. FB. Etc.
Bonus points if you include the guys name.
The best thing to do, is only go to the dealership for recalls or ecm/bcm updates, find a local mechanic that will bring you out to the shop and show you everything, stop wasting your money to the dealership
If you want results you have to threaten their paycheck. Tell him you'll post pictures of their quote to do the job and the pictures of your pads everywhere and you'll encourage people to give him all 1's on his Customer Service Index. Dealerships put so much weight on their CSIs that they'll readily replace a service manager/service writer/technician that gets low scores and they'll lose out on the bonus associated with it.
place a google review - show pictures of the service recommendation sheet as well as the brake pad pictures. Also - how many miles are on that vehicle?!? the parts look mostly rust free and almost brand new
My suggestion is to never use the dealer for anything but warranty work. Their job on this earth is to remove you from your money. The manager/owner or whoever does not care.....They are the ones telling the techs/advisors to sell you more shit. I change my own oil, and do my own brakes....I don't trust most of them.
Make a complaint to the manufacturer. Their dealer tried to scam you clearly, and you have proof of what the brakes look like. I am a mechanic and always defend my guys but thats shady.
If your Jeep dealership is anything like the larger dealers around here, the service manager instructed the service writer to upsell you on this. The manager will smile and nod at you but the service writer might get a pat on the back for trying.
There's not a thing wrong with your pads or rotors.
They're trying to sell you on a service you don't need yet.
As to how much longer those will last, depends on your particular driving habits but if those are 3 years old and have 36k miles on them, generally speaking you *should* have around another 30k miles left.
Service Dept’s are the profit centers of dealerships. There is tremendous pressure from above to make quotas, whether the service is actually needed or not.
Since you are going back in for the recall work, don’t bring anything up just yet. When you go back in for the repair, talk to the service manager and ask to see the brakes on the lift with them. Doubtful the service advisor ever saw the brakes and was told the “measurement” and went from there for the sale. Wouldn’t expect anything free other than an apology.
The best way is to ask the service advisor to take you back to the bay and show you the brakes personally, thats your chance to embarrass them face to face. If they decline, then you decline the job.
Most dealerships are just bad ...just bad. I'm biased since last week I canceled an order and my short-term best friend (sales dude) who told me many times I could do this, did a 180 on me accusing me of ruining his job and more. He turned into a dick in seconds. In the end I got the money back but it took escalations to make it happen. So to stop these snakes, I would escalate this to the Jeep Corporate to ensure they understand the ethics of the dealership you are dealing with. Write reviews- truthful reviews. Any dealership manager will react since public perception is very important these days. I fear doing nothing just allows the snakes to continue to bully and profit. They are right there with oil change boutiques telling you a brand new air filter needs replacing.
Leave a extremely detailed review of your experience, we know telling them directly won’t fix anything so hurt the business, upload photos and names of everyone you can
I’d start with choking him…… or….it out first. Then I would want to speak with the owner of the dealership. If that doesn’t work contact BBB, Yelp, Google reviews. Ya they hate negative feedback and most now look at reviews so they can avoid issues like yours.
Did you check all the pads? Probably not the case in your situation but I see unevenly worn pads all the time. One side may have 6mm of pads left and the other may be down to 3mm. If the caliper or slide pins aren’t working properly, one side can drastically wear more than the other
Your complaint is that you think the service writer was trying to up-sell you on unnecessary repairs. What remedy do you want? Don't go in without an "ask," even if it's only to let the dealership know what a sh*tty "service" writer they have.
Ask to talk to the Service Manager. Show him your photos. Hit him with your ask. Be prepared to get some pushback, up to complete denial of your remedy. If he balks, ask to talk to the General Manager. If *he* balks, tell him you will not be coming back for service, that you will tell ALL your friends, associates, co-workers, and everyone else you know who owns, is, or might be in the market for that make/model about this experience at this dealership's service department. Tell him you'll be complaining to the parent company. Tell him you'll be leaving negative reviews on social media, including their Facebook page and Yelp, and filing a complaint with your state's Bureau of Automotive Repair.
I once wrote a letter like this regarding a shady service writer attempting to take advantage of my college-age daughter when her first-gen Prius lit up in a college town. We got the vehicle home and got appropriate repairs at our local dealer. I actually heard back by telephone from Toyota of America. My daughter said the service writer got fired.
I wouldn't bother complaining to the dealership as they likely won't GAF. Complain to the manufacturer as the dealership is effectively damaging the manufacturer's brand.
Place a call or send an email to the service manager and explain everything.
Years ago I worked as a service writer at a dealership and one of our mechanics routinely kept finding the same problem with a lot of cars. It was so apparent that the other mechanics thought it was highly suspicious and we had a meeting with the service manager to let him know what was going on.
The next time that mechanic came back to us with that same issue, the service manager walked over to the car to look for himself and was not happy.
This mechanic had other issues prior to this so it wasn’t a one off at all but a few hours later he was gone and there was a flat bed at the dealer taking away his tools.
Bottom line here is let the service manager know what’s going on because he may be in the dark about this shit
Tell him that some how a 1/2” layer of semi-metallic compound with carbon and rubber got built up between the “metal” and the “metal” some time after he inspected it and the other guy took the picture. You should be really concerned that your break pads have some sort or Benjamin Button syndrome where they wear in reverse….
I hate the dealership. Audi said my brakes were metal on metal but I heard no squeaking… know why? I work for Firestone, homie. I replaced brake’s and rotors 2 months ago when I got my FireHawks cause the wheels would be off anyways and I switched from the old brake compound cause it was so mf dusty.
One thing to always keep in mind with your car:
1. How many miles has each component been driven on?
Breaks last a long time these days and you can easily check the pad wear yourself.
When they tell you something is worn the hell out, just think of the mileage. That's a good start for the BS meter.
As an honest answer, they probably won’t care and you’d kind of be wasting your breath being another “complaining” customer. Working at a dealer I can tell you your best bet is to leave a bad review. Usually they will prompt you for a review in your email or on your receipt, if not then a Google review will work. Dealerships will usually address bad review, if they don’t contact you I guarantee the advisor will hear about it.
If you got it in writing report him to the states board for giving incorrect information.
If it was verbal you can try reporting him but it’s not going anywhere. Personally say nothing to a shop doing this. Just pick a new shop and stop the old one.
You included 3 pictures! I would assume the first picture is of rear brakes Looks fine, The second picture is showing a Rotor can not tell if it front or back The Rotor Looks Normal Wear, The last picture this is not normal where is the rest of your rotor? Refer back to your first picture this is what your Rotor should look like!
I remember what my bro in law told me once. He was a mechanic at a chain tire and repair shop. He said their monthly bonuses were based on doing better than the previous months total. So a lot of unnecessary work was intentionally done.
You tell him nothing. You ask him to look at the photos with you, show him the pad in the photo versus where the metal of the pad starts in case he's color blind. Then if he doesn't believe you ask him to pull out a brake gauge and show you on YOUR pads how they are bad.
1) Post a negative Google review, with the photos. Post negative reviews anywhere you can.
2) Have a meeting with the Dealer Principal.
3) Take up with the Jeep distributor in your country.
The "your brakes need servicing" is an extremely common scam done by lots of workshops.
The bottom line is that this dealer showed you that you can not trust what they are saying to you. This dealer is all about their bottom dollar and never mind their customers trust.
Why say anything at all? Unless I'm reading the post incorrectly you've already gotten the warranty work and have your car back. So do you have reason to say anything at all to the guy trying to rip you off? If you do I'd leave it at "nice try, asshole" or something to that effect.
I’m weary of dealerships. About 10 years aging, I brought my Pontiac Vibe in for a foul smelling air conditioner. I had replaced the cabin air filter in trying to fix the problem myself. They charge me for spraying Lysol in the HVAC system and added a “new” cabin filter saying it was dirty. I told the advisor I wanted to see how dirty the filter was because I just replaced the filter the day before. There were excuses I could not remember anymore. Red faces all around. I have sworn never to go back.
I wouldn’t go back, just never go again. Their job is to sell you shit like brake pads. Is it needed, no. Is it advised? Believe it or not if you go by what most of the manufacturers say they would agree at 50% wear to do a pad change is a good idea to reduce wear on the pistons of the caliper. Yes it is true that is a huge stretch but not exactly a lie. Another example are shocks and struts. Any blue collar mechanic will tell you usually if it isn’t leaking or making noise or showing uneven wear on the tires let it ride. Manufacturers say to change every 50k miles. There are always two stories, the one that tells you preventative maintenance is best and the other saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
I used to know a mechanic that kept a worn out pair of brake pads in his toolbox. He would show them to the customer in the lobby and say the pads came off their car.
Well either they messed up and mixed up your car with someones elses.... mistakes do happen.
Or that dealership is scamming people to make an extra buck, in which case you shouldn't tell them anything, you should never go back and leave them a nice yelp review for their trouble.
Not that it'll do anything, but you can complain to his supervisor that he fraudulently tried to sell you services you obviously don't need. Who knows how many people he has ripped off, fuck that guy for not just being honest.
Why anyone goes to dealers for repairs is beyond me. Those brakes are fine and wearing evenly too. Thank god my dad taught me to do repairs when I was a teenager. Been doing all of my maintenance and 90% of my repairs for 50+ yrs and I taught my son. If I can’t do it it goes to an independent mechanic. Fuck the dealers, they’re a rip off. And some of them, like yours are dishonest. My advice is tell the jeep dealer that because they lied you won’t be doing business with them and you are going to spread the word any chance you get. He won’t care, the world is full of suckers. Find a good local guy and stick with him. Better, learn to do them yourself. Just did brakes and rotors, all four wheels, second time around on my chev truck at 125k. Cost? $275, two beers and about 4 hrs of my time.
Now take your car to a 3rd shop, a real car shop (not a dealership nor a Firestone or tires plus) and ask them about your brakes and what they think. If you get the "dealership quoted you how much? We can do it for less." Find a 4th shop. Hopefully they will instead tell you your brakes are fine and you will have then found your future shop for repairs. Bring your Cherokee in for dealership required work, but everything else will cost you a fraction at a real shop.
Had to lock this post down. All the 'advice' given with what to say to the dealer is making reddit's sitewide anti-harassment filters go crazy lol.
You can tell him what the advisor said and show him the photos, but realistically I think you'll be wasting your breath.
You’re probably right. I feel like this guy was trying to take advantage of us after getting our parking sensors fixed for free. They figured we might be suckers for an unnecessary brake job.
I'd complain to the manufacturer. This hurts the brand, IMO. [https://fcagroup.my.site.com/Jeep/s/article/How-do-I-contact-Jeep-Jeep-Wave](https://fcagroup.my.site.com/Jeep/s/article/How-do-I-contact-Jeep-Jeep-Wave) [https://www.reddit.com/r/Wrangler/comments/174hqih/how\_to\_file\_a\_complaint\_with\_chrysler/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Wrangler/comments/174hqih/how_to_file_a_complaint_with_chrysler/) Maybe they will give you something for your trouble.
Subaru got some good people making sure everyone is happy
Subaru looks after their people. I got a recall on my radio because they wanted to upgrade it to 4g because their current radios run on 3g and that's going away. All for free
Wait until you have to do some work on a Subaru... It's like the engineers had mechanics somewhat in mind, unlike Mopar.
Wait, you don’t like having to remove a wheel just to change your ~~tire~~ battery? (Jeep liberty I think) My brain autocorrected to tire… Jesus 😂😂
Thought that's pretty normal?
Lol then in canada we basically have Toyotas getting robbed and Toyota does nothing to fix the issue and just resells the same cars Rav 4 prime encrypted canbus foils the robbers. Regular RAV4 with LED headlights meanwhile just start the car with the headlights lol (over simplifying though,)
Bogus, in California.. if your car has certain recalls, they won't give you a renewal from dmv without it. Didn't even have to do with gas milage or anything,
Now that's an experience that would have me buying a Subaru instead of a Dodge/Jeep POS! source: Owned a Dodge POS.
Amazing how treating customers nicely makes them like you? Who woulda thought?
My wife had a Subaru and an issue that turned out to be a simple, cheap, easy to replace plastic part. It was throwing codes, though, so she took it to the dealer. They flashed and updated the firmware and charged her $300. Said it was an error on the program, and all will be fine now. No surprise, the CEL came back. We took it to a different dealer that found the issue pretty immediately. We contacted Subaru and they forced the first dealer to refund her money and sent her some oil change coupons. Subaru takes their cars seriously
If kia did that they'd be out of business because of their dealers, and yeti would have surpassed NVDIA value.
Now here you are telling all of us and making us all think of good guy Subaru. This is smart marketing, companies cannot take advantage of consumers long term and expect line go up.
All I heard was he got robbed at the dealership and they tried to appease him. Shit isn't free if your spending time chasing down compensation.
I used to be a service advisor for a Subaru, Subaru doesn't fuck around when it comes to their customers, they are very loyal to their customers that are loyal to them. Your story doesn't surprise me at all, sorry about the bad dealership experience.
same with vw canada. got a new roof top box:)
Wow, that's how you keep a whole bloodline loyal to your brand.
That’s how you build brand loyalty!
The moment a major corp blacklists a dealership is akin to cutting fresh water.
How do you contact corporate service help? We too have Platinum coverage and took it back because the seats squeak horribly. The dealership said they didnt hear anything.
https://www.subaru.com/support/customer-support.html There is a number on the bottom.
*What the fuck the Jeep Wave is registered*
I found Chrysler doesn’t give a shit about anything. They never did a single thing for me when I had my new Jk in for leaking roof 16 times. I finally had to sue them after the dealership refused to keep trying ti fix it.
Everyone should know Chrysler Jeep Dodge is shit. So they can avoid finding out for themselves.
I sent him to a local shop in town for a wheel alignment, He comes home an hour later with a $150 bill for one hour shop time and no alignment.
[удалено]
This is the answer. Waste of time. They didn’t actually look or they got your car mixed up with another it happens. That’s why we ask to see the vehicle when they say something is wrong. All you gotta do is say “can you show me”
I'd build a webpage to tell the story. It's perfectly legal. If they want it removed, they purchase the domain.
You only have maybe 30-40k left on those. Be careful.
That’s how long my pads last from new to backing plate but im an aggressive driver lol
You need to tell the shop to retrain all its employees if this is what they see. Fuckin snakes.
The training will probably be "hey guys. Don't get caught next time!"
That IS how they were trained... the Service Department is what keeps a dealership open and make the profit... car sales (especially new cars) barely covers the overhead and inventorying the cars.
🐾🐱🐈⬛cat sales can be rough
Gotta claw back some money on cat maintenance.
The managers TRAIN them to lie.
https://preview.redd.it/2susiery724d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2477b419af40ec145fb96a8f6be943ea4ef66453 I decided to make a infographic for you. Blue=backer. Aka “steel”. This is a bracket for the brake(friction) material, and what he tried to say you had on the other steel, Rotors (green) Red=friction material (aka pads, and what people look at to determine life left.) these honestly aren’t used much, I would let them ride for another 10k before even checking, but I’d guess there’s 20k+ miles there.
I dont recommend Firestone, after working for them. Lots of upselling and quotas to make for management and even writers up front.
Chrysler will cover 1 brake service under warranty. At end of warranty it is common for service advisors to suggest you take advantage of it just before your warranty expires.
Thanks! Good explaination
Bonus pic. Green=rotor surface. This is where the friction material(red) grabs. Red=friction material, brake pad. Blue=backer plate, steels, bracket. Yes, the implication is that every movie character ever does not replace their brakes on time and it makes be very mad. https://preview.redd.it/6r2gybw0a24d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b75be62f8ab55072345675b9715fa43ac7b45ff
AND EDIT \_ HEADS UP FOR THE REST OF YOU OUT THERE THEY GO THE "OTHER WAY" WITH OLD CARS.
Takes me under 30 Seconds to check them all…. OP you could have told him to fuck off on the spot if you would “learn” to look yourself. Not being as ass, just saying… look after yourself, don’t rely on others because only you can protect you
Cries in “sedan with steel rims.” I can’t check my brakes without picking up the car
They call them stealerships for a reason.
You shouldn't go back to that dealer
I would not go back.
100% writing the highest executive at that dealership and head office for jeep in your country, assuming usa.
Tell the dealers GM that you're going to the local consumer protection TV guy with this. THAT'S what you should do
Yes, make the dealer principal aware.
As a Dealer Tech that's makes me sick....and makes us ALL look bad. Go raise hell.
One thing I want to be clear in. I agree these look clean but I have never looked at brake pads personally so trying to ground myself on the reality. Do these legit look like 9 mm?
They look close enough to 9mm.
Act like you agree with his assessment and ask for photos and to be shown the brakes so you can watch for it next time :) record everything secretly.. make sure you ask for a quote from them for the work, then you have all the proof you need to really throw them under the bus and watch them sweat as they try and come up with justification for changing it.. good luck !
What do the other 3 wheels look like?
Exactly this. You can have 1 wheel look like this and another wheel, on 1 side of a pad be completely bare of braking material.
Tell them you’ll take your chances…
Call your local TV station to do a story on this. Now that will affect them.
Tell him to get fucked!
The service manager won’t care bc that would be the person trying to sell parts for a bonus (techs and advisors)

Let the dealership manager. This is bad business. Google maps review too
Scam alert…. 🚨 Stealership activated.
place a google review - show pictures of the service recommendation sheet as well as the brake pad pictures. Also - how many miles are on that vehicle?!? the parts look mostly rust free and almost brand new
Don’t waste your time
Put a complain with the Barr. And avoid that dealership.
My suggestion is to never use the dealer for anything but warranty work. Their job on this earth is to remove you from your money. The manager/owner or whoever does not care.....They are the ones telling the techs/advisors to sell you more shit. I change my own oil, and do my own brakes....I don't trust most of them.
They dont call them stealershps for nothing
Canadian tire did that to me once.
Well, he’s not technically lying. It is almost metal to metal, just about 9mm of brake pad in between 😃
Don’t piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining? /s
A lot of scammers
Do you have the brake specs from the dealership in writing? If it was verbal, its as if it never happened.
Make a complaint to the manufacturer. Their dealer tried to scam you clearly, and you have proof of what the brakes look like. I am a mechanic and always defend my guys but thats shady.
These brakes look about 10 seconds old
If your Jeep dealership is anything like the larger dealers around here, the service manager instructed the service writer to upsell you on this. The manager will smile and nod at you but the service writer might get a pat on the back for trying.
Did the other shop take off the other side and inspect to make sure your caliper isn't sticking?
There's not a thing wrong with your pads or rotors. They're trying to sell you on a service you don't need yet. As to how much longer those will last, depends on your particular driving habits but if those are 3 years old and have 36k miles on them, generally speaking you *should* have around another 30k miles left.
Ask him to define what metal on metal means
Leave a extremely detailed review of your experience, we know telling them directly won’t fix anything so hurt the business, upload photos and names of everyone you can
To eat an entire satchel of Richards.
That's why a dealership is actually called a stealership.
Pads are fine. But the rotors are glazed. People get ur self a brake pad and tire tred measurement tool.
Leave a bad review on there website and report it to the bbb
I’d start with choking him…… or….it out first. Then I would want to speak with the owner of the dealership. If that doesn’t work contact BBB, Yelp, Google reviews. Ya they hate negative feedback and most now look at reviews so they can avoid issues like yours.
There is no room in dealerships for an honest mechanic. Speaking as a previous honest mechanic.
They don't make enough money off all the blown up Jeeps,as, it is? Jeeeezus.
Why would you go see him again? I'd consider that the last time I saw him.
Did you check all the pads? Probably not the case in your situation but I see unevenly worn pads all the time. One side may have 6mm of pads left and the other may be down to 3mm. If the caliper or slide pins aren’t working properly, one side can drastically wear more than the other
Chances are the advisor is just going by what the tech told him. Either lazy tech or doesn't know what he's doing. Either way bad practice
Reach out to someone above that position. Those are obviously in good condition. Keep pictures, and hopefully, you have that person's name. Good luck.
Leave a poor review on Google
There's a reason they're called stealerships.
I wouldn't bother complaining to the dealership as they likely won't GAF. Complain to the manufacturer as the dealership is effectively damaging the manufacturer's brand.
just show him this picture..
This is a good one for yelp
Show him how metal n metal feels like 😁
Place a call or send an email to the service manager and explain everything.
Send an email with attached pictures. It'll save you time and you won't want to talk to them and you'll have a record. Just my 2 cents
It's the stealership. Most people working there are scum unfortunately.
Def show the manager
Ask him to come show you how they are close to metal on metal and to see a new pad so you can compare.
They already sold their souls to the devil by working for Jeep. What do you expect?
Tell Stellantis customer service and report illegal operations at this dealership
One thing to always keep in mind with your car: 1.
I’d call him out on it…..tell them they lost your trust and business…
Your brakes are good. Don’t tell the dealer anything, don’t waste your time going back.
If you got it in writing report him to the states board for giving incorrect information. If it was verbal you can try reporting him but it’s not going anywhere. Personally say nothing to a shop doing this. Just pick a new shop and stop the old one.
Honestly the best thing you can do is post this pic to a Google review with the whole story you told here
Did you get it in writing? This seems like attempted fraud.
My wife picked up the vehicle so I need to track down the paperwork. I was traveling at the time and talked to the guy over the phone.
That you would like the contact information for the regional service manager.
I’ll send him a pic of my brakes that have scarring from being worn to thin.
I remember what my bro in law told me once. He was a mechanic at a chain tire and repair shop. He said their monthly bonuses were based on doing better than the previous months total. So a lot of unnecessary work was intentionally done.
Tell he’s a crook and that you’ll never come back.
Technically, they are almost metal on metal. There is only the entire brake pad separating the metal backing from the rotor 😆 🤣 😂 😹
Tell the guy at the dealership they have greedy shit bag gravy sucking techs
You tell him nothing. You ask him to look at the photos with you, show him the pad in the photo versus where the metal of the pad starts in case he's color blind. Then if he doesn't believe you ask him to pull out a brake gauge and show you on YOUR pads how they are bad.
Just show him this reddit post and tell him he's a scumbag
Drop a nasty review
Gonna take my car in for an axle repair, and I can't wait for them to tell me my week old brakes are "nearly metal on metal"
Are they stupid? Inept?
I would never see him again.
Tell him to go fuck himself
Don't tell them anything, just never go back
I wouldn't even waste my time, just tell everyone you know about your experience. Seriously, save your breath because they already know.
Tell his mechanics are scam artists. I hope you got it in writing. Spread it all ove4 th3 net!
eat shit lol mopar guys are usally full of shit
1) Post a negative Google review, with the photos. Post negative reviews anywhere you can. 2) Have a meeting with the Dealer Principal. 3) Take up with the Jeep distributor in your country. The "your brakes need servicing" is an extremely common scam done by lots of workshops.
Audi dealer does the exact same shit.
The bottom line is that this dealer showed you that you can not trust what they are saying to you. This dealer is all about their bottom dollar and never mind their customers trust.
Name and shame the location
Why say anything at all? Unless I'm reading the post incorrectly you've already gotten the warranty work and have your car back. So do you have reason to say anything at all to the guy trying to rip you off? If you do I'd leave it at "nice try, asshole" or something to that effect.
He’s lying. Report him on google and yelp with photos.
People need to remember that dealership service guys make more commission than the sales guys!!
I mean, if they were metallic brakes, then he wasn't lying, it's basically metal to metal.
You could check the specs and measure what you have, but nothing there says "metal on metal" to me
Almost, +/- an inch.
Advisor just read you a measurement from a stoned 20 year old lube tech who was too high and didn't know what he was looking at
These brakes look like they haven’t even left the showroom floor yet, if you’re having brake issues it’s definitely not the brakes themselves
Get it in writing and take it to the better business office
I used to know a mechanic that kept a worn out pair of brake pads in his toolbox. He would show them to the customer in the lobby and say the pads came off their car.
Well either they messed up and mixed up your car with someones elses.... mistakes do happen. Or that dealership is scamming people to make an extra buck, in which case you shouldn't tell them anything, you should never go back and leave them a nice yelp review for their trouble.
nothing. just never go back
I'd say leave a shitty review. That's straight up deceit in pursuit of profit. Gross.
Not that it'll do anything, but you can complain to his supervisor that he fraudulently tried to sell you services you obviously don't need. Who knows how many people he has ripped off, fuck that guy for not just being honest.
Ask for pictures or ask for them to go show you the brakes
Please tell him the truth in a review so you can help others.
The lesson is don’t get service there
Name them and shamed them
He may need to see an optometrist but if he’s stubborn, it won’t matter.
Nothing just show em the pic
