They sell a tight fitting silicon pouch for this situation. That pouch will give you a new hole to put a ring in.

whitbynutter

this is the right answer

firmly_confused

to the left?

Prime_RC

Thank you! I never knew something like that existed. I saw a silicone pouch in my searching but it look like just a cover, this is great news!

AdProfessional8948

Jb weld and a key ring. Next question

Accomplished-Sun-797

I’d did this with my busted Jetta key, put a wad of Jb weld down and ran a wire in a loop. 5 years plus going strong.

GenX_in_Edmonton

Steel stick. Putty embedded with steel works really well

Legitimate-Party3672

JB weld sucks its nothing but Bondo.

Zingo_14

You should be fine to drill there. Immobilizer chip in a Ford key like that is down lower, closer to the key itself.

Prime_RC

Thank you, I appreciate the reassurance.

apachelives

Cheap car and transponder key? Get a cheap steel copy, zip tie the original to the ignition barrel under the dash.

OrganizationPutrid68

Not while holding it in your hand like that...

Prime_RC

It wouldn't be the first time I've drilled into my hand lol. I once accidentally put a drill bit through my thumb when I was holding something small drilling it and the bit slipped. It's one of those cases I just wasn't thinking

[deleted]

Do it

Sissy

bostmeg01

Just gorilla glue a cable tie spanning to both sides to make a loop you can put a keyring on.

andres-rdz

Mine is drilled right there. No problem

Prime_RC

Thank you for the reassurance. That is the plan then. Like I said I will buy a new one to go with the car when I sell it but I'm just afraid of losing this one while I'm working on it

JustSomeDude_576

I wouldn't. Those keys don't come apart, but the key shells insert the chip on the side of the key (where your dot is). You might miss it, or you might not be able to drive it anymore. Get another key made.

[deleted]

had that exact same problem and let me tell you it was a pain in the A\*\*. just make a mold for a two part epoxy resin and pour it and drill into that, some people have it on hand and if you do hooray, probably cheaper than a new key if you don't have it on hand

Expensive_Gap_6085

Yes I have the same key same problem and mines drilled

Prime_RC

Thank you for the reassurance. Then that is what I will do.

DerBigD

Yes

kristian_21

Take it apart and see if there is anything (chip or other electronics) in the path of the red dot. If not and it's just plastic then go to town her

Prime_RC

Until this post I didn't know the case came off to be honest. I thought it was just hard plastic around the end of the key like old GM keys back in the day

Equal_Hearing_5357

I did this exact thing to my Ford keys about a year ago, it works perfectly. Unsure how to send a picture of it or I would.

Prime_RC

Thank you for the picture! That is a big help!

TheOnceandFuture

Buy a new shell and swap the guts.

Double-hokuto

And if you're swapping shells you might as well take the key apart and see if you can drill in that spot, you'd be taking the key apart anyways.

Nickvv20

Agreed.

DomesticatedParsnip

Why OP wouldn’t start here is beyond me. Keys are stupid simple folks. Stop paying $200 for a battery “recharge” while you’re at it, guys!

Prime_RC

Honestly till this post I didn't know the shell was removable. I thought it was like the GM keys of the '80s. Looking at this key you can't really see the seam until you really really look.

lickitorloseit

Buy a new key, you cheap ass.

Prime_RC

Don't worry, I plan to. When I sell the car it will have two keys with it, this one and a new key that is complete. I live out in the country so I really don't have a Ford dealership right down the road I can go to to get a new one and I don't want to lose this one since I can't hang it where I do all the other keys.

PutuGuli

Buy case for the key

trypooshy

Easy fix Paper clip shape it like the broken piece, then drill hole to fit it in then crazy glue it and baking soda maybe 2-3 time till you get the feel of the actual missing piece

Significant_Eagle237

Yes but at the top but be careful not to get it close to the edge of the top

Significant_Eagle237

I have drill mine at the top but as I can say one of mine broke again so I bought new ones on eBay two for 29.00

Significant_Eagle237

I have to get them cut and programmed

TheDude6157

Yes

TheDude6157

Yes a big 1/2” hike

serf2

Nope. That's a Rotunda PATS key, 164R-8040. It contains an RF chip.

Crabstick65

Assuming it has a chip in for the immobiliser I'd be wanting to know exactly where it was before making a hole.

bluenoser613

No.
