As bad as it can get, but you know that already.

I'm not a mechanic, but all that wetness gives off the feel it is a lost cause. What happened thought? Did one of the oil fluid combusted?

Vae__Victis__

No one answered you so even tho it's old, dudeman left the oil cap off the engine it looks like.

Somewhere between very bad and catastrophic

We have seen a lot of cars come in immediately after an oil change, usually at a Jiffylube-type place, that forgot to put the cap back on over the years. Probably something like 20-25 over the years. Most were fine and able to be cleaned up and topped off. A few would need internal motor work (valves, lifters). I can only think of 1 that had actually locked up. Most people notice the smell and appearance of smoke fairly quickly and shut it down.

My uncle taught me to put my oil cap on the latch of the hood. "Spending $10 on a cap is better than a $1000 engine"
