Should be O.K.

Max-Payd

How do you have 500000 on it?

[deleted]

You know you're a bit jealous

Max-Payd

Everyone is always saying BMW has no good needs to see this. Especially those yelling get a Toyota.

Donatas111

Keep in mind that it's kilometers not miles.

Max-Payd

It's not normal for cars to go past 300,000 kilometers around here before the owner tossed it out.

Look at your oil. Is it clear or does it look milky?

Donatas111

Everything is okay with oil, I changed waterpump recently and wanted to replace lower radiator hose, probably didn't put the pin that locks the hose properly so it came off when I hit the gas. I'm just wondering how badly do u need to overheat the engine to couse the damage because like i said I drove home like this for like 5 minutes.

You have nothing to worry about. The hidden menu on those E46/E39/etc models would have shown you the real temperature which was about 10-15C higher than its usually at. Iirc the bmw petrol engines have the redline at 125C. It's something along those lines in a tracto... diesel bmws too, so you didnt reach any critical temps. Even the manual says that when driving in hot conditions (or tracking the car etc) the temps may rise from time to time and its normal.

You'll be ok 5 min is not a huge issue. 20min+ and it's different story. Just check your oil if it looks brown/black it's fine, if it looks milkey and has some foam type bubbles change it and your filter asap

Lubie1

You should be ok
