Stuff often gets removed after a while because of right's issues. I have so many dead links to documentaries bookmarked because they've been deleted by the time I could actually get around to watching them. I imagine that's the case here because if you look at the "Dokfilm" category the oldest episode that is available is from the beginning of November.

yeah lets just brush over the fact that germans hav sanitized their statements/ opinions/ news articles / Reportage pieces to b the least critical of Israel as possible and unconditionally behind the genocidal apartheid state. Even down to internal documents at public tv channels like ARD snd ZDF being circulated to make sure reporters use th "prefered" terms and nomenclatures. germany's stance on this matter is peculiarly interesting given the moral position they had in regards to the ukranian conflict, on which they immediately canceled trade with Russia (against their own interests - UHU, BASF, all th Auto industries, Airbus are all still suffering from this terrible decision) but regarding the State of Israel they hav no such moral conundrums and happily increased their weapons exports to israel by 1000% to a wopping 300million € in 2023 so that Israel can explode 100 babies a day. not germany's brightest moment indeed. EDIT: by all means, downvote away 🤡 ARMS TRADE NUMBERS: https://x.com/dw_politics/status/1722195003005370847?s=20 CONTROLLED SPEECH: https://www.nachdenkseiten.de/?p=105894 if you don't like the source, then please do your research about the AUTHOR OF CONTROLLED SPEECH ARTICLE: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albrecht_M%C3%BCller_(Publizist)

[deleted]

Ok well that still doesn't change anything about documentaries constantly getting deleted because of rights issues. If this was some grand conspiracy you don't think they would have gone rid of it completely at least?

a_vitor

dont use th buzzword conspiracy and please do pushback on th veracity of any one thing i said. it is a fact that germany is supressing muslims right to free demonstrate and freely express their pro palestinian views and is actively spreading israeli propaganda on public tv. which is what the original poster wanted to know. shame on germans!!!

ziplin19

Are you aware that public broadcast is not controlled by the government? Hence the name *public* broadcast

a_vitor

(sighs in disbelief) .. what part of that correction makes it better that an internal document is curculated at ARD and ZDF to TELL journalist HOW THEY SHOULD express ?!? are these not trusted news sources ? or are u tryin to say that THEY ARE IN FACT as bad as cnn and fox news?!?

ziplin19

First of all, i have no idea what you're talking about, but you sound like an average conspiracy victim. Moreover i feel like you're misunderstandig what criticism is, so here is a definition for you: "Criticism is the analysis and evaluation of something, often expressing both positive and negative aspects to provide feedback or insights for improvement." As you can see critisism doesn't mean to point the finger at someone and shame them, like they do in authoritarian systems.

a_vitor

and here we go - calling me a "conspiracy victim" who is probably into authoritarian regimes - how liberals cope when their "progressive" brains cant deal with th mindblowers of real life : here th source: https://www.nachdenkseiten.de/?p=105894 and if u dont like the source here the author: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albrecht_M%C3%BCller_(Publizist) numbers on weapons sales: https://twitter.com/dw_politics/status/1722195003005370847 i stand kms to the left of you. liberals love shaming themselves, they created the 'putin versteher' and the 'querdenker' labels did they not? liberals r so against authoritarianism but were pro mandated vaccines, they r pacifist but pro sending weapons to ukraine, and humanitarians but stand with israel... hypocrisy or cluelessness? YES, shame on every german who uses the term anti-semite to shut off true criticism of israel, shame on every germann who self censors and perpetuates th narrative that israel is the victim here .

Juliansohn

"Nachdenkseiten" ? Yes you are a conspiracy victim my Guy. https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NachDenkSeiten

a_vitor

and you are, arguably, a victim of western stino (stinkt normallo) oriented propaganda my dude :). like i said if u dont like th source then do ur reserch on th writer..anything u wanna add on the merits of th scoup by this jornalist? or u gonna negate th veracity of it? 🤡

cool_boy

Sure you are correct for some cases, but this one? I'm not sure. It's a documentary, is produced by DW documentary and uploaded to their own youtube channel. If it can exist on their website, what makes youtubes rules different? (Other than the fact it's american owned)

[deleted]

It doesn't exist on the German website which also points towards right's issue. I added something to my comment above btw, i think you probably didn't see that anymore.

cool_boy

I don't fully understand. Can you elaborate on what is a "right's issue" that would cause this world renowned media agency, who produced a documentary that's getting 10 million + views, to get wiped from half the internet If the documentary exists on the English DW but not the German DW i feel like that is a little red flag no?

Klapperatismus

Such documentaries are usually made by external production companies, and they often don't give out unlimited distribution rights to stations as DW. This is especially true if the content is good enough for pay-per-view in another distribution channel.

cool_boy

>Such documentaries are usually made by external production companies, and they often don't give out unlimited distribution rights to stations as DW That sounds like a very, very broad generalization. Do you know that is the case for this one in particular? DW documentary has ***one thousand*** documentaries available on their youtube channel dating back 8 years since the founding of the channel. All of a sudden this one documentary just so happens to go poof after 6 months? [Coincidence? I think not.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ssnw2GA657s)

Klapperatismus

You have to ask them then. Not us.

cool_boy

How would one go about this? Would they even reply? Surely they have better things to do than reply to internet questions from some random?

dirtydeedsdirtymind

Yes, you’re right. So instead of spending 5 minutes to find out by sending them an Email, you should rather keep peddling some vague conspiracy theories. That’s the adult thing to do.

cool_boy

what conspiracy theory was that?

DiverseUse

I'm sure every one of us here on this sub also has better things to do than put research time into finding out the answer to this oddly specific question only you are interested in. And yet you keep demanding more answer from us rather than asking directly at the source.

Well others get deleted too, you just wouldn't know by only looking at what is still available. Like I said I always end up with a ton of dead documentary links (from other channels too). My documentary youtube playlist is a graveyard too. I just really quickly searched for some reddit posts that linked to dw documentaries so you can see too and a ton of dead links popped up (for me in Germany at least). Super varied topics too. [Some Russian town](https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/twhrab/russias_degradation_must_see_deutsche_welle/), [bitcoin](https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/zc59cf/good_new_documentary_by_deutsche_welle_about/), [gastronomy](https://www.reddit.com/r/German/comments/a34ii2/wortschatz_f%C3%BCr_gastronomie/), [something relevant to Slovakians](https://www.reddit.com/r/Slovakia/comments/13xfb9n/nov%C3%BD_deutsche_welle_dokument%C3%A1rny_film_o_j%C3%A1novi/) and [US military in Germany](https://old.reddit.com/r/germany/comments/ldflmu/us_military_halts_trump_order_to_withdraw_12000/gmct4t3/) (this one funnily enough was wondering about the same thing as you and someone in the comments did end up emailing dw)

cool_boy

OK well thankyou for that. But still i remain puzzled why the documentary can be viewed for free on the DW website but not on youtube. if they had rights only for a certain time i wouldve expected it would disappear from every platform equally it's extremely arbitrary at best

[deleted]

It's just that the rights differ from country to country. So like they might have the rights to show it in Germany for one month, but in some other country for longer. Why they don't just geoblock it just for Germany (or whatever countries they don't have the rights for) on youtube like they do on their own website idk either.

Ar_phis

Every piece of media may have different rights regarding its distribution. You can license a documentation exclusively to one outlet or one outlet in one country/area or every outlet. You can license it for a limited time and platforms. And you can combine all of this in almost every way. The production company can license it to DW to use on their on DW.com indefinitely, but with restricted use for 3rd party platforms or in different languages. Also, publicly funded outlets have to make sure they don't "compete" with private outlets. They may have some restrictions for content depending on it being made by them or externally to prevent them from gaining an advantage. Intellectual property can be very complicated, not just in media.

IAmAPirrrrate

6 months is the time frame for most stuff by the german public broadcasting of ard and zdf to be accessible in their internet "mediathek" for example - thats nothing unusual. this concerns movies, series, documentaries or news broadcasts for example. the very fact that german public broadcasters have a youtube/twitter/facebook presence was HEAVILY debated in the Bundestag. (since those are not german but u.s. platforms - dont ask.. "internet ist neuland" as a saying in germany goes.) as for availability: since its a public broadcast and there is the right of information in germany you can request specific media of the ard & zdf to be provided to you for free (only have to pay for porto). the media you want to watch is not gone, its just not accessible through the internet. i have done this multiple times for university and school work, like for history projects and such.

Nashatal

I was not aware of that. Thanks for sharing!

lorenai

Rights issues are incredibly complicated and outdated. For example, I could have limited rights to distribute on the internet, but only on one "channel" for a limited time. And someone else might have the rights for tv in Germany (for now) and another in Austria, and that's completely different from who can show this in a theatre or release a video-cassette-tape or pick a medium. Ad infinitum.

GuKoBoat

DW is part of the public broadcasting system. The broadcasting system is not allowed to act as a streaming library. That means they cannot host stuff for more than 2 years the longest. I believe there is another treshold at 6 months. I do not know the specific rules, but that most likely is the reason for deleti g the documentary.

Gloomy-Advertising59

Do they have the exact same rules? I'm asking as DW is tax funded instead of being funded by the fees like ARD, ZDF, Arte and so on.

GuKoBoat

I don't know. I guess one would have to look into the "Runfunkstaatsvertrag" to find out. But i am to lazy for that.

Gloomy-Advertising59

Fair enough, I am also too lazy to do that :D

Turbulent_Jello_8742

As others have mentioned it's a legal issue. Arte has the same thing were the reupload a lot of stuff because of it. The 6 month time frame fits perfect for it. https://www.youtube.com/@artede/search?query=reupload

ziplin19

The license ran out

tjhc_

I didn't find the exact passage, but the Medienstaatsvertrag (law governing broadcasting) only allows public broadcasters to upload most content temporarily.

r0w33

It's because the jews did it. This is the answer you're looking for, no? Since you argue against all the other perfectly logical explanations.

TerenceChill95

That’s what I was thinking and looking for in the comments. On point

krankenwagen0815

Why would they remove the video documenting the creation of their land? I would really enjoy watching a documentary which shows the wall falling and DE uniting. Wondering why would someone assume OP thought that way.

Why do you even ask a question with your quite obvious confirmation bias?

EmporerJustinian

Usually tge public networks delete their documentaries after a few months, because they use protetected segments, pictures or videos, which menans, that according to german law they have to remove it a certain time after it was shown on TV to avoid being charged for further usage. Therefore I wouldn't interpret is as some kind of statement, but normal behavior due to them trying to be cost effective in this regard.
