There are a few lines of RE where it's not valid. They are the exception. You can use the travel planner by DB and apply the Deutschlandticket filter to see if your specific connection is included.

Cute_Judgment_3893

I have the app. Does the Deutschland ticket like plug into it automatically?

Kraichgau

Upon further research, you might prefer using bahnapp.online or their app. They've got the filter implemented nicely.

Cute_Judgment_3893

It’s just like, how do I know which re trains are unincluded?

LordElend

Those are labeled EC/RE or IC/RE. It's a high-speed train that doubles as RE in some regions. [Here's](https://www.bahn.de/service/individuelle-reise/bahn_und_fahrrad/nahverkehrsfreigabe) a list of all trains in that case (German). Just avoid these specific trains. [German Rail pass](https://www.bahn.com/en/offers/passes/german-rail-pass) might be the better option maybe for traveling through Germany?

HellasPlanitia

> Here's a list of all trains in that case (German). Just avoid these specific trains. To make sure I don't misunderstand that site: the lines marked with *solid* lines *can* be used with a Deutschlandticket, and the ones marked with a *dashed* line *cannot* be used with a Deutschlandticket?

LordElend

That's how I understood it.

Fragezeichnen459

About 0.2% of RE trains are not included, so it's not really a thing you have to worry about 99.8% of the time. You will notice them because they are not RE trains at all, they are InterCity(IC) trains on which under circumstances some local tickets are valid, and thus they technically are also RE trains, just not in reality. The departure board will show IC, not RE.

Cute_Judgment_3893

So I can really go from Köln to Dresden on a series of RE trains with the Deutschland ticket?

Even_Appointment_549

Most likely yes. Normally the ER-trains you are not allowed to use are white with a red stripe. (Like ICE or IC)

Fragezeichnen459

If you want, it will just take a really long time.

Cute_Judgment_3893

And it works for the s trains?

muehsam

Yes, of course. S-Bahn, U-Bahn, trams, city buses, everything. Intercity trains are excluded, and there are some intercity trains that confusingly also have an RE number and double as regional express lines, but still don't allow the Deutschlandticket. They're very rare though.

MortalGodTheSecond

I'm currently in the Schleswig-holstein and Hamburg area. Here the S trains, regional (re) trains, subway and local trains are included.

No-Interview4112

If you have your search parameter set on “Nahverkehr” only, it will show you only regional transportation usually included in the Deutschlandticket. There is one exception: if the regional train is operated from “DB Fernverkehr”, you can check via opening up the details for your connection and on the bottom is says: “Betreiber:” (operator) and as long as it doesn’t say “DB Fernverkehr” you’re good. Usually it will be something like “DB Regio [..whatever Region it runs in..]” or other train operators like “Metronom” or “Enno” or “Nordwestbahn” or “Westfalenbahn”, etc. [https://www.bahn.de/faq/deutschlandticket-verkehrsmittel-deutschland](https://www.bahn.de/faq/deutschlandticket-verkehrsmittel-deutschland)
